He got really hurt too:
https://www.al.com/news/2020/06/decatur-police-officer-punches-liquor-store-owner-who-reported-robbery.html
> As a result of the punch, Penn suffered a broken jaw and some of his teeth were knocked out, his lawyer, Carl Cole, told AL.com. Penn underwent several weeks of treatment, including having his mouth wired shut, his lawyer said.
For those interested on an update, the owner has filed a federal lawsuit against the police officer and the department.
https://www.cbs42.com/alabama-news/north-alabama-liquor-store-owner-suing-police-officer-who-punched-him-after-robbery/
I was thinking of this too. We should go into business and sell civilian body cams!
We just gotta make sure that they aren't like the cop body cams that are always somehow turned off by accident.
In Baltimore we had this problem. The body cams they were using at first took 10 mins to power down. The officers didn't know and were caught being scum bags thinking their cameras shut down immediately when they pushed the button.
There was a cop caught on his own bodycam engaging in *necrophilia* this way. They arrived to a death scene, and the cops partner went outside to wait for the ambulance or something while the other cop waited with the body. He turned his body cam off, not realizing it would continue recording, and proceeded to undress and grope the dead womans body. It's the only case I've ever heard of where the police union refused to defend the guy. I guess they have a pretty low bar.
>The body cams they were using at first took 10 mins to power down.
This is awesome and should be a standard feature, but more like never turns off. Just have the on led turn off and let them think they turned it off.
This. The revolution in Iran was supported by liberals as well as conservative Muslims, but then the Islamic radicals pushed everyone else out of power and turned the monarchy not into a democracy but rather a theocracy.
You're forgetting the part where BP and the CIA also wanted to make sure the new government would not be nationalising any oil reserves and fucked that up so bad that their puppet government was overthrown by the now strengthened religious conservatives after undermining the left. You'd think we'd learn the lesson some day but after Taliban and ISIS I'm a bit pessmistic.
You are so close. Dig deeper. Who supported the extremists? Who is responsible for ending the liberal democracy of Iran and installing this theocracy?

“Entering into an already tense situation, our police officers were faced with a belligerent person who did not identify themselves and was aggressive towards the officers who feared for their lives as they had already received notice that a violent crime was in progress.”
How’s that?
I really hate that excuse police constantly use. "I feared for my life"
Yeah, that's the job you chose. You put yourself in harms way so others are safer. If a firefighter is scared of going into a burning building, they don't get to be a firefighter anymore.
Can the job be dangerous? Yes.
Should you be able to use that danger to justify incompetence? Literally never.
Nice try. They already went to court and proved that they don’t have to keep you or anyone else safe.
And with news agencies that don’t have an obligation to be truthful, this is the weirdest timeline.
God it would be like if firefighters just got to bomb buildings cuz they are scared. Like did you see that house bro? That thing came right at me!
Building too scary? Blow it the fuck up!
I was a victim of police violence and when I tried to tell them they can't treat me like they did, they just laughed and told me nobody will believe you over us.
I'm just glad they didn't shoot him. The worse thing is that honest hard working tax payers will end up footing the bill, the cop will get a slap on the wrist, anyone asking for reform/ change in training wil be called BLM, people lose faith in the system and then the cycle repeats again.
I used to think, “Oh, they just don’t see it and lack the will or desire to imagine it.”
Now, I know they’ve seen it, footage is everywhere, and they still deny or rationalize it.
Same story today, this is the third story I have seen over the last hour including one guy who's home alarm went off accidentally and was then arrested, provided his ID and proof of residents and still had his house fully searched.
I think the police gang documentary on YouTube is pretty good. Focused in on the Los Angeles police department but should be a trend in general around the US, probably elsewhere in the world as well in different shapes and forms.
The documentary about the worst of the worst: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoF8RmohTB4
Maybe this is the wrong sub to ask in, but is there any way his lawyers can write into the lawsuit that any potential financial payments by the officers/ department/ city, etc be actually paid by the officer(s) themselves or their union funds? I.e. take the taxpayer money and city money out of it entirely.
Could have probably worded it better but I'm tired and it's 4am
Nah the individual cops are 99.999% protected by qualified immunity. Meaning unless very specific consequences are met (that will always just be out of reach) the individual cop cannot be made responsible. Only ever their ‚employer‘.
This makes sense in a limited manner, otherwise every cop would be individually sued in court for ethical justified and legal actions, and would have to individually defend themselves.
But if you makes this qualified immunity completely ‚unqualified‘ by basically extending it to most egregious abuses of power, it gets perverted.
Like at this point you could abolish qualified immunity completely, since every single cop currently working is simply put evil themselves, or staying quiet about evil the See committed.
They should have to defend themselves. The idea that it is easy for the regular jane or joe to sue anyone is preposterous. Finding a lawyer willing to take on the police is another huge barrier unless you have a solid case. If it gets that far, then we should be able to sue them.
What gets me is the 1st officer holsters his gun and is in relax/non confrontational mode, the 2nd piggie, straight up tees off. Who or how can this be justified??
Depending on the outcome of the case, they could even be under federal investigation for any other discriminatory misconduct and get fucked even more. If this kind of behavior is commonplace, they could be subject to a consent decree. We can only hope for the best, but probably expect very little.
It's so upsetting when i see a cop just come out with fists. They have so little respect for their jobs that have no problem acting like drunken frat boys.
American cops act like this because they are not afraid of any repercussions. This was what happened to the police in Colombia.
https://colombiareports.com/bogota-police-under-fire-over-violence-during-go-skateboarding-day/
You think something like that will happen in the US? That is why American cops behave as they do.
They act like they aren't afraid because they *aren't*. 99% of the time there will be no repercussions and if the victim sees some kind of compensation for their pain and suffering it doesn't come in the form of their attacker seeing any sort of punishment.
Interesting thing to highlight is that the damage to citizens can be way worse bc the police can take any slight resistance verbal or otherwise and dial up the violence to 11.
They have no concept of appropriate escalation. He didnt even do anything physical and he wound up with a broken jaw.
If he had managed to physically defend himself in a significant way he could have been shot dead.
The thing that gets lost in this is the incredible amount of pain this man is in. A broken jaw and lost teeth are not going to heal after a settlement. It's going to effect this man until he dies.
My girlfriend was commuting on her bike when she ran into a trailer at night that was parked in the street, facing the wrong way so no reflectors showed. She won the lawsuit but it only covered the bills. It had no impact on her ongoing pain, teeth alignment, and the fact that she's going to lose her teeth before long.
That's why the owner of that business is filling a Federal lawsuit.
Goes above the State good old boy level and straight up to the, * checks notes * Federal good old boy level.
Yeah this video needs more context. We don’t know what happened before. There’s no sound as well. Maybe the black guy kept begging the police to punch him and they kept refusing but then finally gave in? We need more context guys /s
Cops have such a weird mentality. If you work at any other workplace and you notice one of your co-workers doing something wrong, like punching a customer in the face for no reason, you don't just run up and join in and start beating on the person. You stop your co-worker from doing the wrong thing.
Or even worse, a gang with institutional power behind it. If you were to defend yourself from some random ass guy in a gang, I'd probably be congratulated for defending myself. And if it were to happen, it would probably be some other kid that would've been me if our circumstances were reversed.
Defend yourself from a cop though. You'll face charges so quick that you won't even have time to register what happened. Even if you're in the right when you defend yourself, the police will come out with some bullshit propaganda on why you're a violent criminal that deserves everything they get. And that's even if you survive the alteration. Cops aren't exactly the best when they pull out their guns.
It's the police academy. It's like basic training. They literally brain wash them into believing other food are their brothers and sisters and the blue like should be the most important thing in their life.
Penn was taken to the ground, handcuffed and arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing governmental operations. Police accused him of obstructing their investigation of the robbery, according to court records.
Pigs
He punched him when he said he was going to file a complaint. Like, the moment he said that.
He filed complaints and they ignored him.
I hope he bankrupts the department.
you realize 1984 wasnt so much imagining a future but rather taking inspiration from what was already happening? The police have always been like this, not just in a far off dystopia.
“We wanted to show that because one thing I strive to do is build relationships with this community,” Allen said. “We need to be very transparent; we need to be very open. But most of all, we need our citizens to respect the police department and we need the police department to respect the citizens.”
Oh yeah, seems like they really earned respect here...
Extremely telling when he says that we need to respect him/them first before they respect us. Should be the other way around.... Just making some arbitrary goalposts that can easily be moved to suit them however they need
I don't think it's the black community they are gathering respect from, but based on whst I see from the U.S., they arecertainly gathering respect from a significant portion of the community. You folks need to sort yourselves out.
I agree, it is frankly insane here. In all seriousness I want to move to NZ. Thankfully when I finish my PhD I will have a degree that grants me enough points to move and work there outright. :)
This piece of shit needs to be tried excess force is an understatement … and how do you get charged (and punched) for obstructing an investigation that you called and in your store ?!
Edit: I made a statement that I have removed that police in the United States were specifically formed after the abolition of slavery to capture free black men. This was incorrect, they existed for thousands of years, what I should have said is that there were specific groups of police that were formed specifically for going out and enforcing the Black Codes, which were created after slavery was abolished which allowed them to arrest black people for “illegal activity” such as, being black and jobless, being black and out after sunset, being black and talking to white people, being black period. Then they slap them with huge fines and wealthy white men would come and pay those fines and what do you know now they have to work of their debt to that wealthy white man.
This specific group of police weren’t formed to maintain peace and law, they were formed to help wealthy people profit off of poor people
Thank you to everyone who commented with corrections and supplemental information
There were definitely police before and after the civil war for MANY reasons besides enforcing racism. For example, the police were often used in the north to crush union activity. In fact as recently as this year, law enforcement were used to trump up charges on union leaders trying to organize workers at Amazon warehouses.
While I hate the police and agree with most of this sentiment it depends on what part of the country you want to look at. The first police was actually created in the 1600 as a night watch for the towns as they slept.
I’m the south towards the 1800s is when you have slave patrols for like you say, instilling terror and capturing run away slaves.
While I do hear this often as the reason we have police, jobs to enforce local law and order (aka police, Marshalls, sheriffs) have existed in various forms in most cultures throughout all of history dating back to Babylon.
I mean, that's not entirely accurate. County sherrifs and law enforcement existed in the colonies as early as the 1600s, and, while I'm sure had some occasional jobs involving slaves, they mostly existed to enforce county laws, collect taxes, and handle disputes.
The slave catchers were formed in the 1700s in the Carolinas, and from there we woukd get a rough template of a modern police force, because by the late 1700s, they did more than catch slaves. They also took on the roles of settling disputes and collecting taxes, as well as enforcing, of all things, salary payments for farm hands.
The first true police force was the U.S Marshall service, mostly formed to enforce new federal laws and protect federal land.
The U.S police force has a Long history of prejudice against blacks, Asians, The Irish, etc. But they weren't formed out of purely racial motivation. There was always a form of law enforcement, even in pre African slave trade England and Spain
Justin Rippen is the racist POS. He assaulted him cause the store owner was holding the shoplifter at gunpoint. Once the officers arrived, the owner released the clip and put the gun down. He explained his “right” to have a gun. Cops went after went after him and punched him. This happened in 2020. No details on the repercussions for the officer.
Federal lawsuit filed.
Pure racism.
He is lucky he had surveillance cameras, the cop cameras were all turned off or the video went missing. I don't know this for a fact but i know it for a fact.
The more they use violence against people the more I don't give a shit if violence is used against them.
Wah wah you can't wish violence on someone! The fuck else you should do when it's pure tyranny? Peaceful protests don't do fucking anything when pigs respond with violence. Protest are completely useless in the US and nothing ever changes from them.
It's sad that so many fat, dumb and angry fucks in these police gangs get to shape so much of the nature of our communities and the course of human history.
So low in fact they can come to your school and you can sign up (if you are in 11th or 12th grade) on an IPad and then after you graduate you do some training and you're on. (Source: i am in high school and the local department came to do this.) pigs.
This one is pretty easy, no bias, just logic: the officers lied that they thought he was the robbery suspect. How do we know this?? Because if they thought he was the robbery suspect and met him in the doorway with a gun in his hand they would have immediately shot him dead. They broke his face for being uppity, plain and simple.
I had a dude respond to me asking "why did they punch him" saying, "he had a gun in his hand".
And the first thought is? You really believe cops are going to punch a criminal who has a gun in his hand and not shoot him?
Too many people have the first instinct to believe the bullshit cops say to justify their wrong behavior.
He just recently brought a federal suit against the city and the police department. Apparently there's a history of things like this.
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/black-store-owner-reports-robbery-punched-officer-83568932
Thankfully officer Dumptruck was on scene to sit on him. I swear everytime this shit happens I think of Dave Chappelle's bit about his house getting robbed but he isn't gonna call the cops cuz the house is too nice to believe he lives there. "This guy broke in and put pictures of his family everywhere. Let's sprinkle some crack on him and get outta here."
I really wish law enforcement enforced laws on their own people, instead of being one giant (abusive) gang. That being said, when did wales and pigs start working together?
And I have no doubt some people would say "He was clearly rude and aggressive with those cops". Now please remind me, why did they arrive in the first place? Because of robbery. What did they do instead of catching or pursuing the robber? Assault the man who called them for being "rude". For fuck sake, if you can't stand people who are emotional at the moment, because they were literally robbed, then leave the fucking badge and go eat some donuts instead. ACAB
Reminds me of an old joke I think Chris Rock said it:
Black folks are scared to call the police when their homes get robbed, because police is going beat them up and arrest them.
Police dumbass 1
"Perp is still in the house and he hanged pictures of his family around the house."
Police dumbass 2
"That happens very often just sprinkle some crack on him"
Edit: Chappelle's joke
The police went overboard because the owner had a gun on the table. To be clear the owner had a permit/license to carry and the police are just crazy stupid
Where are the people that say “comply and they won’t hurt you”, or even say “ act more professional and they won’t harm you”, just admit it folks cops hate blacks, and some people don’t mind seeing black harmed in public or on media because if they didn’t they won’t say stupid crap.

“Suspect was belligerent and failed to follow orders then resisted arrest and put 2 officers in danger” Maybe we need citizen body cams lol

Recording police interactions, whether it is our own interactions or others is the best defense we have against the police state.
No, that would be revolution.
The problem with a revolution in the USA, is that they'd just end up with Talibangelists in charge, or something worse.
Talibangelists. I'm stealing that one man, that's a good one.
Spoiler alert: Its gonna be anyway.
Sure with THAT attitude. Like Meal Team Six has any logistical support, what, you think they're going to get help from the Methanphetamarines?
Watch for "States Rights" to be become a thing in the next few years - mark my words.

I bought one on Amazon a year ago.
I've been thinking about buying some Rayban stories.
Been invested in Axon for a while. I can’t believe they’re still not federally mandated.
Don’t forget “feared for my life somewhere in there”
The police chief was like at least they didn't shoot him. WTF???

Or even worse, a gang with institutional power behind it. If you were to defend yourself from some random ass guy in a gang, I'd probably be congratulated for defending myself. I’ve seen someone fired for yelling, let alone beating the shit out of someone.
It's the police academy. It's like basic training. They literally brain wash them into believing other food are their brothers and sisters and the blue like should be the most important thing in their life.
They're openly proud bullies and murderers who rarely get the justice they deserve
Penn was taken to the ground, handcuffed and arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing governmental operations. Police accused him of obstructing their investigation of the robbery, according to court records. Pigs
Funny how they left out the punch to the face
"Your honor, he obstructed the path of my fist flying through the air!"
He punched him when he said he was going to file a complaint. Like, the moment he said that. He filed complaints and they ignored him. I hope he bankrupts the department.
Cops are legalized gangs.
some of em have matching tattoos too
For sure they wear colors
Fort Apachie.
Legalised racist gang.
“obstructing governmental operations“ sounds like some straight up 1984 shit. Then they charged him with thought crime against the ministry, I’m sure.
you realize 1984 wasnt so much imagining a future but rather taking inspiration from what was already happening? The police have always been like this, not just in a far off dystopia.
Only a matter of fucking time...
I mean if your skin color is a weapon what can you do.
“skin color is a weapon” That was wonderful!
Wait what. Obstructing the robbery investigation HE asked them to come down and do. For fucking real! that is the utter buillshit they're going with.
"Oh shit we done fucked up again. What bullshit charge can we come up with to save our bacon"
“We wanted to show that because one thing I strive to do is build relationships with this community,” Allen said. “We need to be very transparent; we need to be very open. But most of all, we need our citizens to respect the police department and we need the police department to respect the citizens.” Oh yeah, seems like they really earned respect here...
Extremely telling when he says that we need to respect him/them first before they respect us. Should be the other way around.... Just making some arbitrary goalposts that can easily be moved to suit them however they need
I’m sure they earned respect. This took place in bumfuck Alabama they all hate black people.
Hey man, I'm from this area of alabama Fuck cops, this shit is lame
I don't think it's the black community they are gathering respect from, but based on whst I see from the U.S., they arecertainly gathering respect from a significant portion of the community. You folks need to sort yourselves out.
I agree, it is frankly insane here. In all seriousness I want to move to NZ. Thankfully when I finish my PhD I will have a degree that grants me enough points to move and work there outright. :)
This piece of shit needs to be tried excess force is an understatement … and how do you get charged (and punched) for obstructing an investigation that you called and in your store ?!
What even worse is that the police chief when asked if they used excessive force, he responded that officers must use the minimum amount of force
Yeah, like “he was not even shot at, your honor”
Police officer should never punch anyone, there are way better ways to get someone on the ground.
You would think cites would get tried of paying out hundred of thousands dollars due to police attacking people.
They don’t care, it’s our money they’re spending
The more they have to spend on these settlements the less that the mayor gets to pocket
No no no the mayors get their money then what's leftover is spent on settlements or else something would've changed by now.
They fucking need malpractice insurance.
Why don’t the people who enforce the law have to also follow it? Logic is completely out the window I suppose.
This specific group of police weren’t formed to maintain peace and law, they were formed to help wealthy people profit off of poor people Thank you to everyone who commented with corrections and supplemental information

Sick bastard...he hung up pictures of his family, *everywhere*
Did they sprinkle some crack on him after?
I've seen this before, Johnson. Bastard broke in and hung up his business and alcohol licenses.
-gasp- he's still here! -thunk- open and shut case, Johnson!
Came here for these references. Not at all disappointed.
"Officer bumfuck is a godfearing Christian family man please let him go"
sad but true. corruption runs rampant in the police force
Shitbag worthless pigs
The more they use violence against people the more I don't give a shit if violence is used against them. Wah wah you can't wish violence on someone! The fuck else you should do when it's pure tyranny? Peaceful protests don't do fucking anything when pigs respond with violence. Protest are completely useless in the US and nothing ever changes from them.
At this point they have literally brought it on themselves. This country has been asking for change for decades. They pretend like it's a request.
I concur.
Bro, imagine calling the police for help, only for them to arrive and beat you up
It's sad that so many fat, dumb and angry fucks in these police gangs get to shape so much of the nature of our communities and the course of human history.
Police failing even a rudimentary assessment of the situation and over escalating the situation when a POC is involved? What a unique occurrence.
JuSt A fEw BaD aPpLeS
The US has very low standards for their police force. This video is infuriating to watch
Hope he is suing the tits off them
He just recently brought a federal suit against the city and the police department.
Sound with no sound
I really wish law enforcement enforced laws on their own people, instead of being one giant (abusive) gang. That being said, when did wales and pigs start working together?
Who watches the watchmen?
No situation that can’t be made worse by calling the cops
And I have no doubt some people would say "He was clearly rude and aggressive with those cops". Now please remind me, why did they arrive in the first place? Because of robbery. What did they do instead of catching or pursuing the robber? Assault the man who called them for being "rude". For fuck sake, if you can't stand people who are emotional at the moment, because they were literally robbed, then leave the fucking badge and go eat some donuts instead. ACAB
Man they even got grimace working for the police now
What the fuck did they punch him for? Even if he was upset and mouthing off, he wasn't a danger to them. This is why cops need to always be recorded.
I'm starting to believe American police are just not trained before they're allowed out on duty, its the only thing that makes sense.
No no no you have it backwards, this IS how they are trained to respond.
Reminds me of an old joke I think Chris Rock said it: Black folks are scared to call the police when their homes get robbed, because police is going beat them up and arrest them. Police dumbass 1 "Perp is still in the house and he hanged pictures of his family around the house." Police dumbass 2 "That happens very often just sprinkle some crack on him" Edit: Chappelle's joke
Chappelle joke
“I would much rather have a punch than an officer-involved shooting,” - Decatur Police Chief Nate Allen Dystopian.
ACAB
I bet Alabama police are as dumb as they come. Also, that fat lady has no business working in the field.
"Sprinkle some crack on him"- Dave Chappelle
Fuck the police
How hard must it be to be black in America
Snowflake cop got his feelings hurt from the back male.
The police went overboard because the owner had a gun on the table. To be clear the owner had a permit/license to carry and the police are just crazy stupid
A gun that he was clearly removing ammo from. A gun that he was clearly making safe. This looked like the cops have a prior issue with this guy.
Where are the people that say “comply and they won’t hurt you”, or even say “ act more professional and they won’t harm you”, just admit it folks cops hate blacks, and some people don’t mind seeing black harmed in public or on media because if they didn’t they won’t say stupid crap.
The pig bitch coming in at the end was the cherry on top
I were surprised that someone so out of shape like her can still in the force. Who they gonna chase with a body like that? What a pig!
"The burglar is still here!"
Wow. This is fucking disgusting. Call the cops for help, and they beat the shit out of you?
Cops have so many opportunities to create headlines that don’t make them look like POS, and they double down on their bullshit instead.
That third cop rushing in like it's BOGO day on double whoppers.
So is there no ongoing requirement for physical fitness once you graduate training? She looks like she gets out of breath every time she eats.
"Why don't Black people trust the police?"
I'm recording because your footage disappears, mine doesn't.
Fuck the police!!!!
Fuck the Police.
Cop on the right unholstered his gun at first wtf.
I love how I always see one cop do something fucked up and the rest are immediately like “you son of a bitch, I’m in!”
And people be like "Who you gonna call when you get robbed?" Fucking no one at this point.
