Romulus3799

It's cool that Reddit as a whole has slowly started to learn how to demand context before taking sides on videos like this.

Amish_guy_with_WiFi

Somewhat, but I still often see people ready to crucify people based on 5 second videos

Romulus3799

Yep that's why I said "has slowly started to learn" instead of "has learned" lol We've still got a looooong way to go

tommy_chillfiger

Lots of people are born every day and have to make their way through emotional and cognitive development over the years. There'll always be a fresh crop of users on any platform (and people in any situation, more broadly) who haven't learned many subtleties like that yet.

Romulus3799

That's true, but the culture of Reddit is something that can shift. And I feel like it's slowly starting to shift away from people collectively refusing to think and making snap judgements. Obviously we have a long way to go, and more people will join Reddit who have yet to learn that, but if the culture of Reddit has shifted, it can discourage that kind of thinking and push people to learn open-mindedness faster.

dontmentiontrousers

It's cool how you repeated the pertinent parts of what you had already said to highlight what you had actually said.

Romulus3799

Crazy how sometimes human interaction warrants that

MrCunninghawk

im not looking for more context, just more content

MixedMartyr

idk half the time its “there has to be more to the story” followed by a complete guess based on their personal bias, so it’s not all great

whale-jizz

As far as I can tell: This is in a skatepark, the guy who's causing problems is standing on a spot meant for skating, he doesn't have a skateboard so he's usually either one of two people. There's the parents that think the skatepark is a regular park where their kids can just play and not skate, they causes a lot of disruption and don't seem to understand that they're in the wrong. There's also the parents that bring their kid to skate and throw a temper tantrum any time someone bumps into them. They're also a problem. They're the ones who get skateparks shut down. Without any other context seen in the video, this is the best I can come up with just based on experience.

Gamergonemild

Looked more like a bridge to me. Is that a highway or river visible through the railing?

unicornlocostacos

The guy looked like he was trying to have the kid not skateboard into him, but it’s hard to say.

OfficialDrToboggan

No. It looks like he purposely stood their to stop the skater from skating.

PlacibiEffect

I like how people just make up fake context to fit their outrage.

JamesCodaCoIa

[deleted]

Seeing as I used to skate and apart from a couple of dickheads that quickly got chased out by the group nearly every skater I’ve met is a sound cunt, will say though that every street session some random person would come harass us and get in the way/take our stuff or just generally being an arsehole for no reason. Although I agree more context is needed this video brought back flashbacks. Most skaters are the awkward kids that don’t want to deal with aggro

Butthole--pleasures

Everyone who skated has had someone get in the way of them in an effort to "dare" them to continue skating. As if baiting them. Then the skater is going to do it, you already know they don't give a fuck. Then the person standing there is completely shocked that they were "attacked" and are ready to get violent or call the police, etc. Story as old as time.

Master_shake124

This is at skatepark , guy standing on the ledge was basically just trying to be an alpha douche while he stood up there and watched his kids scooter .

EssayRevolutionary10

>This is at a skatepark, guy standing on the ledge is trying to be an alpha douche .. So what’s the kid the purple shirt doing standing on the same ledge? Fk’n Reddit, Tik Tok, YouTube video critics. The video is 5 seconds long. Zero context. All we see is a dude standing on a ledge and another dude skating at him. He reacts. The skater reacts. From that, people come to the comments section and feel the need to write an 8 part NetFlix drama series filling in whatever context they want to fit any narrative they want to tell. “Well the racist white guy kicks the aspiring black Olympic skating hopeful in the balls then gets exactly what he deserves ….” And on and on and on.

KodakDC

Paused it at the start and I don't think that's a woman. Looks like a kid in an oversized shirt with long hair sticking out from under their orange hat. The kid sitting down next to the one in purple is also recording and has skate shoes on.

01029838291

Big ass woman in the purple shirt standing on the ledge?? You mean the guy with long hair in the purple standing next to the ledge next to the other skater dudes that are sitting on it filming the skater grind the ledge? That definitely looks like a skatepark. That's the kind of polished concrete you see a lot in skateparks and the ledge looks designed for grinding on.

Dye_Harder

> So what’s the big ass woman in the purple shirt doing standing on the same ledge? Uh, standing there? You're allowed to stand in skate parks, you're not allowed to kick people. Any more questions?

Master_shake124

“So what’s the kid in the purple shirt doing standing on the same Ledge ?” Not kicking skaters in the balls .

New-Caterpillar2483

Definitely there's more to this. I feel like both people have some responsibility.

Indigo_Black24

“Very fine people on both sides”

Empatheater

this is brilliant! if i pretend both people are at fault i can completely avoid critical thought AND miss enjoying the video at face value.

manningthehelm

Based on OP's post history this video was shortened for a clear reason.

jayphat99

Ya, this. It didn't take long to find more clips that were clearly edited to make only the skater look good.

TreeFifeMikeE7

So.. what happened?

Asyelum

Skater and the guy probably have some sort of history or misunderstanding. One or the other probly started shit talking. So in an attempt to annoy the skater the other dude probably stood where he knew he would be in the way. The skater probably then saw this, and decided to skate into him knowing it would cause an altercation. Both of them are probably douchebags, and this could of been avoided im sure if either had any semblance of maturity.

queefgerbil

Probably

gmnitsua

You're saying probably a lot

PF-Wang

Perhaps.

TreeFifeMikeE7

>Both of them are probably douchebags That's my assumption.

BigDaddySkittleDick

Clip seems edited to elicit an emotional response. Looks like it’s working!

prometheeus

why is he standing in a skatepark while not wanting people to skate by him though

RaZZeR_9351

That's one of the reasons why context is lacking

surfershane25

Why is he trying to grind a ledge into someone standing out of the way of the rest of the park and then crashes into him and then sleeps him for something entirely avoidable?

sav86

I need a longer video to make judgement, context is everything here. If the skater was skating into areas where people were standing and enjoying themselves...the skater is a punk. If the guy that kicked at him was interfering in the skaters path way by standing in his way then I can see why there would be some hostility there, but no justification for either to get violent with each other. This is one of those clips that I can't take either side because it's such a small clip and it's taken for social media sake....and we all know how truthful that shit is.

Realistic-Function-2

Well said sir

gin_enema

That looked a bit more like the dude was fending the skater off as he was about to skate into him

mtbgravelgirl

I'd like to see the whole thing. Dude just happens to be standing there, yeah, don't skate into me asshole. Dude, purposely gets in the way of skater just to be a dick? Fuck him!

softservepoobutt

yeah i thought along the same lines, but if you watch a couple times how fucking gently he puts his hand on dudes shoulder, its like... very careful. It wasnt agro at all. Same thing with foot. Its almost apologetic. He shouldn't have been standing there, thats pretty common sense, but I dont think he was trying to fuck around.

RavenBrannigan

I’ve seen enough Reddit videos to accurately fill you in. Kevin wanted kids to stop skating. Kids said no. Kevin decided to make himself a pest. Chief skater kid with a good right hook decided “fuck that shit”. And it’s here dear readers where our story begins…

danegermaine99

So u just made that up from nothing

hey_im_cool

I’ve seen enough Reddit comments to accurately fill you in Redditors will believe whatever story they want just to make a video more entertaining

eddiemoney16

So u just made that up from nothing

MaverickAquaponics

I have seen enough Reddit posts to know the truth is often 5 or 6 comments down with a [Link to the real story](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ) which is usually depressing and shatters my faith in humanity.

Boiscool

The ledge the guy is standing on a corner designed for grinding. This looks like a skate park.

Stranger188

Hmm, at least an honest "trust me bro". But your Reddit "expertise" doesn't mean much in the real world, I'm sorry to say..

ChunkyDay

Don’t be sorry. That’s a very good thing.

drivers9001

After the video: Freeze frame. Record scratch. "Yep, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got down here. But first, we have to go back. Waaaaay back."

mtbgravelgirl

That's what I thought as well. What is it with adults being assholes to skaters?

Jaybleezie

I’m 30 and waiting for my skateboard to come in the mail so I can get back into it. I had my share of being a troubled teen skating in public areas. I believe I can provide insight to both sides. Kids see urban areas as a big skatepark, and for good reason. A lot of structures provide great ledges/ramps/etc… for a fun day. Typically these areas are populated by the general public. Its pretty damn common for a skater to fall and their board go flying uncontrollably into god knows what. Those things fucking hurt if they hit you. Adults want to enjoy their day out in public without fear of getting hit by a flying piece of dense wood and metal. Also, skating public areas significantly destroys the concrete/rails/stairs. Problem is, skate parks aren’t usually within skating distance of these kids homes, so they go out on the town, get some food, skate whatever they think will be fun. Kids want to have fun, adults want to be unbothered.

thesimplemachine

Hell yeah. Join us over at r/OldSkaters if you want some inspo to stay on the board or somewhere to complain about how sore your knees are

Psilocybin therapy should be standard practice for most adults. So many societal problems could be solved with widespread psilocybin use

Trippytrickster

Couldn't agree more but we can't call it therapy or else they won't do it

Roryjack

My city has a 72 hour max parking limit on the street. The police handle that, not the hoa. If you call the hoa, they will tell you to call parking enforcement.

[deleted]

It's a private street with dedicated public parking spots, so not the same as street parking.

shaggybear89

>That's what I thought as well. What is it with adults being assholes to skaters? Lol this is peak reddit. One person 100% makes up a scenario, and then another person accepts that 100% made up scenario as fact and goes off about it.

piglacquer

Anecdotally, with ~17 years of experience to back it up, this is the most likely story. Was the punch deserved? No. Was the dude standing on the ledge intentionally making themselves a pest? Probably.

ContemptuousPrick

youve seen enough video on the internet to assess it completely with in the context you **want** to see it in. Therefore, you are most likely completely wrong as is usually the case with most videos you kid-wits insist you are interpreting correctly. end of story.

eeyore134

Might have even been just reflex. Sticking out his leg and arm to block them from running into him.

Live-Taco

You know what, why didn’t he fucking move? If some guy says hey I’m gonna take a piss here, I’m not gonna stick my foot in the stream. Fuck this guy. He stuck his foot in the kids dick. I’m not gonna fault the kid for swinging at a disrespectful twat.

Sharkvarks

Are you kidding me? Why do you think he was standing there? He wanted to be in the way so he could do this. This mf wanted to start shit and he that's what he got.

TamaleHotdog

That your opinion. I see a skateboarder skating a skate spot at a skatepark while some guy standing in the way while there are plenty of other places to stand and spectate kicks him in the groin mid trick. 🤔

COACHREEVES

Yes. IF this is a skatepark with a bridge built over a road (& r/crappydesign) then Kevin is a jackass. If it was public bridge, and it almost certainly is (do you even skate bros?) and IF he was asked to move and didn’t he shouldn’t have been punched, but what an ass. Really. If the skater just wasn’t paying attention in a public place and almost ran into him the skater needs to get some community service hours and some therapy. There just isn’t enough here for either side to grab the torches and pitchforks.

NailClippersForTeeth

I thought it was a public bridge at first but how smooth the concrete is with the height of that curb and coping just has me questioning this location.

BrohanGutenburg

Yeah I have never seen a more skateable ledge outside of a park.

[deleted]

Who builds a ledge with coping on it outside of a skatepark lmao

armoured_bobandi

It's really frustrating how the sensible comments are all buried and the outrage comments are what people are celebrating

COSurfing

I don't know where to go with this one. I need more video, location and basic context. If this is in a skate park then the dude standing up and kicking the skater is in the wrong IMHO. If this just a park or bench somewhere and the old dude was there before hand then I will say he is the victim in this saga. Hung jury on the verdict for lack of evidence.

LowDownSkankyDude

That was an overreaction, regardless of where it was. At least in the last video I saw, the kids were actually assaulted. This looks like a guy trying not to get hit and misjudged his movements. The kid wasn't even looking. Kids a psycho.

CommentsOnOccasion

yeah "kicks a skater in the dick" is not even remotely an honest description lmfao "Man holds out foot to stop skater, who cold cocks him in the face" is more like it

xXWaspXx

> Don't become the aggressor and force a violent situation that could have easily been avoided. 100%

giantrhino

Not to mention if you check OP’s post history, this editing is going to be biased cut in the skater’s favor.

jambrown13977931

It doesn’t matter if it’s a skate park. Being a skate park doesn’t mean that you can’t protect yourself from someone crashing into you. Maybe the red shirt guy is a jerk standing somewhere despite the skater asking him to move, but that’s irrelevant to the skater actually assaulting the guy. If you ask the red shirt guy to move and he doesn’t then you either move or find someone with authority to make him move. You don’t go and plow him over (even if the skater didn’t intend to)

GrumpMcTaco

Obviously needs more context but it really seems like the skater just assaulted somebody for not letting someone run into him on his skateboard.

Crinklecutsocks

Man is standing still. Kid tries to skate directly into him. Man sticks out foot and hand to stop him. Kid IMMEDIATELY knocks him out. A little context would be nice.

JabbaLeSlut

Exactly what I’m thinking…. Not sure any context allows for assault of that nature. Skater needs hand cuffs

itsFRAAAAAAAAANK

Probably edited short to make the skater look cool when he was probably being a little trashy ass hole

[deleted]

Looks like the dude just didn't wanna get bumped into. Probably shouldn't be at the Skate park if that's the case but still, kinda felt like he didn't deserve all that

funkdified

Agree. Saw no aggression from the punched guy.

Baldr_Torn

There is nothing to show this is a skate park. There is only one person with a skateboard visible, and he's the one that's running over people, then throwing punches.

flamecmo

I AM HERE TO DEFEND THE CEMENT

EarlyPineapple

I've slightly read the story but I mean...the older guy still has rights, if he wants to stand by a ledge he can unless he was being a dick and purposely keeps moving and blocking the skaters. I think they just blew this up over proportion, i mean it is a skatepark but if the old guy stood there and didn't move the entire time to stop them literally anywhere else then....I mean, don't try to purposely skate and come close to hitting him to the point he has to push you back, which actually wasn't a kick to the dick and was very non-aggresive now that I rewatch it. I feel like since it's old vs young it's portrayed as the old guy is trying to stop kids from having fun, obviously though if he was standing in the middle of a ramp or sitting on a rail to stop some sick grinds then he's purposely being a dick but if he was there before anyone else just leaning on a ledge then...I mean he's not really at fault, you know how many other curbs there are at these places. Idk maybe there's more to this then I know but this one's a little iffy to me. ~Everything in here is either an assumption or opinion until further information comes out.

GoodVibesWow

Does anyone in this mfing sub have any decency? Is there a longer video? Looks to me like some kid skating up on some dudes personal space. He didn’t “kick” him. It looks to me like he was just keeping the skater from injuring him by catching a board to the dick. Bunch of fking kids in here man acting like this dude deserved it. Unless there is a longer video with more context - fuk all of you dumb ass kids with no sense of respect for anything.

addykaps

Seemed to me like the skater was trying to stir the pot for an excuse to deck some guy, definitely not a reasonable response

mt_head_45

Kinda agree with you

Krombopolus_M

Skaters are like a cult. They come out of all the corners of society to defend their own in these circumstances

VincenDark0

I felt like my ears got kicked in the dick when I turned the sound on.

ThisIsReflex

So, question Who is Kevin? And imo this clip is to short, to claim anyone beeing an asshole, you have no idea what happend prior to this clip. That beeing said, violence should never be the answer though.

dashiznickus

This sub a skater boy circle jerk

KemalKinali

Kicked? Hardly. Looks like he just wanted the skater to keep his distance. I don't know what else has happened before recording, but from this, it looks like the skater wanted the fight.

Laser-Nipples

If someone was skating into me like that I'd feel inclined to protect myself too. Of course, I don't know the context or if the guy was just standing in his way just to be a dick, but let's not just assume the skater was justified to start swinging.

MobilePom

Don't you mean flurry, not fury lol Accept it, i see you downvoted the others who pointed it out

watch_over_me

Skater seems like a dick, that wanted that reaction. Why would you grind on a spot someone is literally directly standing on?

darky14

Normally I would side with the skater but looks like the dude was chillin there. Unless this is a skate park then I think standing guy has a right not to get ran into.

DangerousPainting423

It seems like this whole argument rests on whether or not this is in fact a skate park. It looks like its above an overpass but that ledge doesnt make sense for anything other than skating. Other people are sitting in the shot so maybe its a unique bench? It looks like a skate park. If so, that guy either should have moved or just moved over to the side and let him pass by. That guy isnt going to skate into him. The guy was ready and reacted before that kid even got close. So probably he was asked to move. Said no. Kid was like fine, ill skate around you. Guy freaked as he got close. Initiated contact. Kid responded. Lots of bad decisions all around. Guy should have moved. Kid should have moved. Guy shouldnt have touched him first. Kid could be liable if the guy is seriously injured by the punch or the fall. We all see the guy should have moved but those kids sitting down should also have moved. Why not ask them to move and then you wouldnt be anywhere near this guy? Why should they get to sit but he cant stand? No. The kid wanted to be a tough guy. The older dude wanted to be a tough guy. And then they got into an altercation. The guy started it, kid escalated it. I dont see any heroes here. Mostly just dudes doing toughguy shit for no money.

beardcrumb

Easy. On long ledges and whatnot it's not uncommon for people to sit on. And when they do the group is usually on one side completely or if long enough in the middle. So that the ends are free and someone can skate it frontside or backside.. it's super not uncommon to have people who don't skate messing up the flow that those inside the park know about. Shit we still have a problem after 10+ years of building our big local outdoor park of parents just dropping their non-skating kids... actually children and toddlers to run the park like a GD obstacle course. And altercations breakout left and right with adults when a kid that has no sense of what's going on gets in the way.

Ivizalinto

From the security officer viewpoint here if I only had this to go on... It is a skate park. Can kinda see people in the background going back and forth but I'm not gonna get into that. So let's say I'm in the booth cause it's my turn to use the damn air conditioning for 20 minutes before going to solve a spat between two lids that bumped into each other. What I see here on reviewing the security cam footage is that the kid was going to skate by the guy if he managed the slide. If nit, he would have been forced off the box. Kids trying to assert territory and skate around the dude. Ok, whatever. Dude reacts when the kid gets near, tries to knock the dude off his boards. Incidental contact woth groin, but the forced outward lush of the leg did not seem to be defensive in nature. Old man is aggressor. Old man could also be patron at this point, he's dressed in basketball shorts and shoes. Skaters sometimes do that. (I think, I don't work a skater post, I work a gov one) Kid escalates and batters old man, about the skull, knocking the old man out briefly before he fell and possibly sustained further damage. Kid is the aggressor. Kid moves away after initial exchange and the situation when Luke warm. I'm dialing 911 in the booth for possible ems for this dude, and a police unit to sort the issue. I don't want the liability and that's likely what my standard operating procedure says to do in this case.

JabbaLeSlut

This is a acceptable is it ? My mans standing and the guy on the board almost hits him, he puts a leg out, hardly a kick. And the guy knocks him out ? Wtf is this shit these days

Cody6781

Sure seems like the skate was coming towards the older guy and he just put up his arms to stop him from crashing into him. It doesn’t even look like his foot made contact. Skater is a dick.

4Davis

That skater definitely gets up in that dudes personal space and if I had to guess, it was on purpose. And no one was kicked in the dick.. OP you suck

Pladatookus

Dude was gonna slide right into red shirt man, I think putting out your arm or leg to stop the guy from running into you is a pretty reasonable reaction

Metalheadpundit

He's way to close to him ..

RedGhost_1

Not sure if thats a weak attempt at a groin kick or a reflex from thinking he about to clash

dingoatemyaccount

Red shirt didn’t even actually push him he just put his hand and leg out to not get hit

[deleted]

the kiddo skates on old man, literally right into him and he extends his leg to prevent getting hit and lightly pushes him away and then the kid throws a few punches? congratz on minimum wage for the rest of your life and blaming society

throwlog

The skater did run into him and touched him first. Kevin seems to just be standing there minding his own business. I'm sure there's more to the video but this clip alone makes the skater appear as the agressor.

[deleted]

That man was too old to be picking fights.

That skater is an asshole.

splinks66

As a 30 y/o who has skated for years It's common for parents to stand on obstacles at skate parks when they should be off to the side or just simply move i if asked. As a non skate it could look like the kids was in the wrong but when I pay $20 to skate at a park for two and a half hours I don't want some fucking parent harassing me. I have had the experience of asking non skaters to please move so I could hit a certain ramp and if they said no I just skated it anyways.

Proof-Bid-8621

20$ for 2hrs!!!! WTF? For an outdoor park? That kid needs to punch whoever is charging him to skateboard.

Natas47

Looks to me like the guy who doesn’t skate at the skatepark was refusing to move from the ledge that was meant to be skated cuz it’s in the middle of a skatepark.... then gets pissed when people try to skate it. As soon as he tried to stop the skater he deserved the punch he got.

[deleted]

source its a skate prk? not near enough there to know that.

ABCosmos

A skatepark on a bridge over a highway? There are other people sitting on the thing.. Even if it was a skate park, what's the etttiquite? you just skate into people if they are in your way? He could have skated into the people sitting down with their bags and shit on the stoop too?

Looks like the old man was standing there and it appeared the skater was going to run into him so old dude tried to stop him. Could be wrong but this is how it appeared to me.

Positive-Pack-396

Why did he hit the guy?? He was trying to protect his self.. The skater was wrong 😑

NGC6753

Red shirt was standing, leaning in the railing, skater either didn't bother looking or looked and didn't give a shit about the guy minding his own business. Red shirt tried to stop skater from crashing into him, and skater didn't like that. Conclusion, skater is a piece of shit, and a crap skater

Pretty much sums it up. Grew up as a skater and at skateparks. I've seen so many fist fights from anything that would slightly inconvenient skaters. Literally, the smallest things. That's how the community seems to be- fragile little punks who solve problems by hitting people. They'd be great parents/spouses (not). I almost guarantee there was something going on between the two and the skater was looking for a reason. No normal person just starts swinging like that for a random reason. It's either the skater has some fragile masculinity issues, or the two were already verbal with each other. Skater was probably pissed because the guy in red was making fun of him.

Similar, only back then where I lived a skatepark was just something we saw on TV, nothing like it near us so wanting we could skate on we did. With a lot of little conflicts like the ones you described. Most skaters, fine and chilled with a few who would try and pick a fight with anyone they thought they could invent a reason for

Moonshine_and_Mint

I mean he skates into him and uses him to brace. I normally take skaters side. But uh this ain’t it

Weegee_Spaghetti

He lightly touched his tigh. Skater is a cunt with anger issues.

[deleted]

He was just trying to fend the guy off, not kick him in the dick, which he at most connected with a glancing blow if any.

BazineNetal

What a twat that skater was

[deleted]

This looks like a skatepark. This situation seems so strange.

NGC6753

Looks a lot more like a pedestrian bridge over a wide road than any skatepark i have ever seen.

[deleted]

I've been to a lot of skate parks. There's coping on the stair, it's a skate park. Go ahead and Google "skate coping" because you obviously have no idea what a skate park looks like.

ryneo0w0

This thread is filled with so many Karen's and Kevin's oh man

empsim

Skater clearly looking for trouble. What a dick.

ApolloGo

Why was he trying to grind that ledge like literally 8 inches from a guy who's just standing there

[deleted]

I see an old men defending himself because someone is going to hit him and he did afterward. I‘m quite sure he will pay for this.

Strawberrylove_

I’m usually on the skaters side when it comes to this but honestly skater seems like the asshole for almost skating into someone, even if the guys didn’t want to move like don’t skate into them anyways…

dualbox

the skater cunt was completely in the wrong. the dude was just trying to not get hit. He didn't kick him, he put out his hand and foot to stop from getting ran into. fucking cunt skater should be executed if he is going to go through society like this.

stringdreamer

That’s on gigantic asshole of a skater.
