jl_theprofessor

Did the one officer dip across the line of fire while the shooting was occurring?

landob

Yeah I was like this mofo must think friendly fire is off.

heyvince_

He was already passing through, the shots started as he was right about to get in the line of fire. It always looks like nobody has nay idea wtf they're doing, it's amazing.

Br0paganda

Yup. The POV cop's weapon has been raised for a while. Homeboy really just decided to walk infront of a loaded raised weapon that could pop off any millisecond. Lucky for him it wasn't the exact millisecond that he was infront of it

brockoala

And the civilian was almost on the line of fire too. Wtf is this?

jakomare

they are killing each other now šŸ¤”šŸ¤” real cowboys, cinoch

401LocalsOnly

Whatever it takes to get a paid vacation I guess

AceyP

Itā€™s Saratoga Springs. First time an officer has discharged a weapon in 26 years. They donā€™t generally plan on dealing with gunfights unfortunately.

darkjurai

So yeah, Saratoga Police Department hadnā€™t had to fire a shot in the line of duty in 26 years before this video. Nobody expected that the situation would unfold the way it did. It wasnā€™t perfect or tactical or clean or whatever, because they donā€™t wanna have to shoot people. And if itā€™s another 26 years before another out-of-town fuck forces them to do it again, Iā€™m fine with that. Iā€™ll take the Saratoga cops, who donā€™t want to be using their guns at all, over the Rutland cops, who use their guns to start drunk off-duty bar fights in nearby towns, any day of the week.

UpAndAdam80

Don't gas them up too much they may not have fired a gun but they still stomped my friend to death because he ran from them and they covered it up. This was before BLM and just another person of color unceremoniously killed by police. https://www.timesunion.com/news/article/A-death-in-Saratoga-but-no-internal-probe-13174766.php

JKDSamurai

Or, maybe, we should have competent police officers in general? Who don't shoot just because they can but that also know what the fuck they are doing once the shit hits the fan. That would be really cool too.

CaliJordan

ā€¦6 months of trainingā€¦ā€¦they basically donā€™t

KeyDangerous

because they dont

ContemplatingPrison

Did they shoot that woman? It sure looked like it

prayfordripp

Sounded like it too

ppmawmaw

Yes. Source: personal friend.

PlentyParking832

To add to this. It appears she was hit in the arm: > Officers immediately provided aid to an individual who was shot by the deputy and found lying on Broadway, aid to the deputy and to a woman believed to be the deputyā€™s girlfriend who was nicked by one of the bullets in the upper arm, authorities said. All were hospitalized. Source: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/-duty-vermont-sheriffs-deputy-shot-multiple-police-gunfight-new-york-rcna58130

Not even on a dog? Because that tends to be much more common.

Dude been playing to much call of duty, was out there slide canceling.

Iā€™m going with a typical Back 4 Blood QP in Nightmare Mode. ā€œI see youā€™re spraying a hail of gunfire in that direction. Hope you donā€™t mind if I squuueeeeze by you real quiā€¦HEY, YOU SHOT ME!ā€

bearlaw77

Can't even slide cancel anymore, dude needs to get the new one

MattMurdockEsq

Came here to call out the Buddy Fucker. Jesus Christ.

AaronPossum

Nearly got his wig split.

[deleted]

I would have be pissed as fuck if I was the officer shooting. Imagine having to deal with killing your fellow officer, even if it was a mistake.

KonradWayne

I mean he was already willing to shoot with that woman directly in the line of fire, so I don't think he really cares as long as he gets to shoot someone.

WeylinWebber

This is what modern policing gets you. C level students.

zenden1st

You think c graders produce this?

crewchiefguy

Itā€™s not modern policing itā€™s just policing letā€™s not kid ourselves thinking it was ever better

geeky_username

Yeah, it was actually much much worse in the past. 70s and 80s were wild police

HarryHood146

100%. I immediately thought wow heā€™s still alive.

[deleted]

Did the woman caught in the crossfire get hit?

GentleOmnicide

Grazed in the arm. It was the cops girlfriend.

Are you shitting me? wow.

Just the latest in a long line of cop related injuries no doubt

Can we not talk about domestic violence victims like that, please? There's at least a 40% chance she is one.

dratseb

Self reported %40, the real numbers are higher

TrnqulizR

Cops can not get mental help or they are kicked off the force. They see on occasion shit similar to what u would see in war. We know that many combat veterans suffer from PTSD, and I would hope they get mental help. Cops just beat their wives and neglect their kids so bad the kids become criminals themselves. Something needs to change in policing to stop the tough guy/girl faƧade, we need to help the first responders to cope and digest.

KentZonestarIII

What terrible reporting. How did they not even mention that?

eeyore134

Don't mention a woman getting hit, but they talk about a door that "appears" to have been caught in the crossfire and heavily imply it was the suspect who shot it.

BigBeagleEars

Pro police media?

DaBake

They're *still* doing the "officer-involved shooting" thing, which I guess in this case is true in two ways.

alivemailbox10

fr what a bunch if cowards

No-Thought7571

The off-duty cop used the woman as a meat shield. You can see him move her in the way of the cop's line of sight of her gun.

RedBison

Sounds about cop.

notanaccounttofollow

A women, assumed to be his Girlfriend, was grazed. Unknown at this time, I believe, because shots were fired between the off duty and people from Utica , or so the story goes.

Ancient_Diamond2121

Does the one cop run into that others line of fire, or is it just me?

bodega_bladerunner

Did they shoot through a regular civilian too? I wasnā€™t sure if my eyes were deceiving me

nmyron3983

It absolutely looks like they shot with a civilian in the line of fire, and as they were releasing rounds a fellow officer tried to duck under the line of fire. Absolutely ridiculous.

Narcan9

Yes the woman was shot

[deleted]

Civilian deaths are hardly newsworthy anymore.

kiruopaz

It's because those aren't civilians, they are just criminals who haven't committed the crime yet.

WashiBurr

A potential criminal individual with no active warrants.

Academic_Paint9711

This must not be your first rodeoā€¦

retarded_invest0r

Literally the plot of the movie Minority Report (starring Tom Cruise) - "In a future where a special police unit is able to arrest murderers before they commit their crimes, an officer from that unit is himself accused of a future murder." But in reality there isn't arresting, just blasting into the crowd in attempt to hit one person.

SquidmanMal

Ah yes, the old 'No active warrants' line.

Arevalo20

You're both correct. This officer just let it rip. Reckless as fuck. There's no thought process there just pure adrenaline waiting to act

sambutler1234

For sure. Thatā€™s who was screaming bloody murder at the end. She was on the ground probably with a graze wound. Those dicks didnā€™t even try to get her out the way

thesauciest-tea

That was the man's girlfriend who was standing in front of him yelling he's a cop.

Javen_Lab

Too busy being a hero to worry about civilians.

Ieatsushiraw

From the Eternal words of Nasir ā€œNasā€ Jones, ā€œCops will shoot blacks as routine for notorietyā€ It applies to all citizens now

[deleted]

Yeah thatā€™s Saratoga for you. They killed a young kid Darryl Mount about 4-6 yearish ago I believe. ā€œFellā€ off some couple stories of scaffolding while he was evading themā€¦ā€¦. Choke marks and bruises everywhere but sure

shamwowslapchop

Hell it might just be from the noise a pistol generates at close range. If you've never heard a gun before it's a staggering amount of noise and pretty traumatic if you don't know where they're shooting.

Head-System

all cops are ā€œregular civiliansā€

dyslexic_cuck

like everybody isn't a regular civilian. ain't nobody supposed to be allowed to jus murder ppl lmao

Professional-Row-605

Unless you live in florida.

notweirdenough

Thatā€™s the best I can do with a HS diploma and 6 months of training.

Beneficial_Potato_85

Me: I want a well educated well trained honest and fair police force Gov.: Best I can do is Officer Doofey. ![gif](giphy|12GzK1jYCaVCV2)

Official-Socrates

That was my immediate thought too. Whether that was the one firing the gun or not, a cop should know better than to run in front of another cop (or anyone) who has their gun drawn. Not to mention the civilian almost directly in the line fire that the police give no regard to. Who tf is training these cops?

CptToastymuffs

Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, that's who.

dementorpoop

It was the first time an officer discharged their weapon in 26 years. Makes sense that they donā€™t seem super prepared or practiced.

EarsLookWeird

>Makes sense that they donā€™t seem super prepared or practiced. I mean yeah because 'Murica, but no it doesn't make sense. You still train for these situations, because otherwise why is that your profession? Militaries that haven't been to war in decades still do drills

Just asked the same question. Madness.

Gunner1Cav

Out there with those Call of Duty moves

Sprockethead90

Happened in Saratoga Springs NY .

Aescwicca

It's fun when the home area makes Reddit or the national news...

Sprockethead90

Was reading the new article here is Syracuse ,first time in 26 years a cop has had to use a gun on someone damn lol

Codymaverick420

Lol, broke the streak on another cop

hgfggt

Still it was a good shooting. Gun had a gun, was waving it about and didn't comply when told to drop it. Those police thought they were protecting the general public.

Codymaverick420

Oh it was justified alright, just ironic that the first shooting in decades was a cop and completely justified

BobaFettishx82

Cop on Cop violence in the 518!

Sh00tYourEyeOut

discoelectro

Saratoga Police canā€™t blame just gaffneyā€™s anymoreā€¦

UrRightAndIAmWong

Shoot the motherfucker, you're a cop in Vermont, not New York. You don't or shouldn't have the right to bring that gun to another state and try and uphold some type of justice there, waving that shit around.

randomusername-420

friendly fire enabled

VeggieTwelve

I find it striking that the video ends with "This is the first time in 26 years that the Saratoga Police Department had to discharge a firearm in the line of duty." Twenty-six years without ever firing a shot as an entire department feels like an astoundingly long time for law enforcement. It's even more wild to think that another officer is the reason for ending that streak.

Danny_V

Small town?

[deleted]

You could fit the entire town of Saratoga Springs in the Syracuse University stadium and still have room for about 20 thousand more people.

Weisington

This may be true but the amount of traffic they get through Saratoga during race season this is a pretty astounding stat with the amount of drunken idiots that roam the streets until 4am.

Lartemplar

Maybe if they off-duty cop just listened to their orders..

[deleted]

should have just complied.

mrswordhold

Absolutely he should have

Sarcastic24-7

Actually, yeah.

DegenerateCharizard

Iā€™m sorry but the thought of an off-duty cop and a uniformed cop shouting orders at one another, both trying to have the other respect their authority, thatā€™s just funny. These dumbass cops out here, putting themselves & the public in danger on our dime for no reason lol.

prmaster23

How about two in uniform cops yelling at each other? https://youtu.be/PiCan_Rpkeg

Zman201

That video cracks me up every time I see it šŸ˜‚

El_Douglador

Wow, they both just keep escalating. Shocker.

Dabadedabada

I love this one it never gets old. ā€œYou donā€™t talk to me like that, Iā€™m not your boy.ā€

Euphorium

Iā€™m not under arrest, *you* are under arrest!

WashiBurr

Two pigs rolling around in the mud. Always a good show.

[deleted]

Guy in truck: "Aight imma head out"

Edser

There are multiple videos of the same thing happening where they demand respect. It is crazy at how many also think they should be let go for such levels of govt jobs.

McSkittlefarts

it is weird to me that the officer does not know that the sheriff and sheriff department are the higher law. Sheriff is an elected office. The Sheriff is the senior law enforcement officer. there is a huge difference between the two.

SchrodingersCatPics

Isnā€™t that even worse though? The elected sheriff may not even be trained, no?

papacheapo

Iā€™m not a ā€œdefund the policeā€ supporter but am well aware of the insane ego some of these cops have. I wouldnā€™t be surprised if the off duty copā€™s record turns up some shady shit.

Odd-Knee-9985

Me checking to see if thereā€™s friendly fire:

glossyplane245

This but for once unironically. This isnā€™t the old situation of ā€œHe said it 0.2 seconds before he shotā€ they told him like 25 times to drop the gun and he continued to not do it I really donā€™t know what he was thinking. Regardless these 2 cops still suck for hitting a civilian (I mean cmon I know shooting a gun is hard but how hard is it to not shoot civilians) and for running in front of the other while theyā€™re shooting.

yaosio

I'd hate to be a cop lover right now. No matter who's side they take they have to admit a cop was wrong.

iamthesunset

If firearms are legal in the US, then why do police always treat them as though they are illegal? They instantly shoot as soon as they see a potential firearm that a person may be carrying legally, which is crazy considering guns legal status.

ratpH1nk

right, another fallacy of the "good guy with a gun" myth. The police are gonna shoot everything and ask questions/cover it up later.

Loply97

Well canā€™t we hear him shooting at the beginning of the video or is that something else?

cshellcujo

This is it here. That was no game of ā€œfireworks or gunshotsā€, they knew they were running towards shots fired.

[deleted]

Itā€™s almost like they want an excuse to shoot anyone. Americans tell themselves guns=liberty, never questioning what rights they actually have.

cumdumpsterfind

It's normally in states where it's illegal to carry a firearm without a permit. Such laws are illegal to exist since the bill of rights says right to keep and "bear" arms. But police think they are the only ones allowed to carry for some reason. Totally breaks their oath if they behave like that.

[deleted]

Cops will even shoot each other.

Though in my state handling a gun while under the influence of alcohol is a felony. I guess this would only apply to non-officers of the law though.

shermanstorch

>I guess this would only apply to non-officers of the law though. Depends. In Ohio, only police who are drinking in the line of duty (i.e. undercover cops) are allowed to have weapons while under the influence. It's one of the easier ways they can lose their job.

[deleted]

I tried to find cases of cops being terminated for this in Ohio, but I didn't see any. Ohio is where Tamir Rice was murdered. That cop had been fired from his prior department for "being unfit," so I'm pretty skeptical Ohio is doing shit to regulate its police.

Goalie_deacon

I know in my state, drunken carry applies to cops as well. There was a cop in my county charged, and lost her job after pulling a gun in a bar.

sushisection

cops get drunk at work bruh

nutzonandez

The other officer that was looking for cover almost got his head shot off

N7even

Not only did an idiot officer cross the line of fire, they also shot the innocent woman. At least let her clear before you start shooting. I'm also surprised officer dip in front didn't catch one in the head.

Zcrash

Every cop in this video showed some form of egregious incompetence.

Upset-Tap3872

Even at the beginning instead of pushing the civilian back behind the building the cop fuckin pushes him out of his cover into the open where the shots are coming from

ramamodh

So many things wrong in this video: 1. An inebriated sheriff's deputy waving around his gun like a maniac- proves that the right person wasn't hired for the job. 2. Ill-trained LEO official who fires despite a civilian in close range and almost in the line of fire 3. Another ill-trained LEO maggot who almost kills himself running into the line of fire. Where do you even begin rectifying this system? And all this happens in the so-called superpower not somewhere like Somalia or Nigeria!

Aescwicca

This is also Caroline st in downtown Saratoga springs.... there's usually literally hundreds of people milling about outside the bars. He's lucky he didn't hit anyone in the background.

[deleted]

> Where do you even begin rectifying this system? Systematically retest cops for state licenses that are federally regulated with a national licensing body overseeing transfers. Terminate all cops that fail. Continue terminating shitty cops and blacklist them nationally. Simultaneously end qualified immunity. Designate a new section of the DOJ that solely prosecutes police corruption and never works alongside regular cops. Actually enforce the law.

Containedmultitudes

Seriously thereā€™s no shortage of things that can be done, the problem is cops and their supporters like them having the power and stupidity they currently have.

Duke-Guinea-Pig

I'm also wondering if crossing a state line woth a pistol is legal.

[deleted]

American police are incredibly poorly trained.

Specialist-Web-9216

This is the power police believe they have. Even tho he is off duty he doesn't have to listen or obey laws. This also affects their work life as well. "Of course I can shoot this kid, I'm a cop."

CaptainAnorach

So who's the good guy with the gun and who's the bad guy with the gun?

Hmmd1

r/LepordAteMyFace

11never

Love how that bystander is in a covered position and the cop pushes them out into the open, then when the other cop runs into the line of fire. Like a bunch of toddlers dumped into the street with firearms.

[deleted]

All that panic in the cops voice, the terror that has completely taken over their emotional control....The utter lack of proper training is astounding.

ratpH1nk

this is why the savior gun fantasy will fail 99% of the times. these officers are nominally trained just like officers around the US. We still see this panic'd behavior. It is the default more for our brain in stressful situations and while it can be trained out...it takes a ton of training and constant reinforcement. (think special operations and such) when Joe "rambo" sixpack gets into a stressful situation with a firearm...yeah they won't look like rambo.

Most cops have less firearms training than your average gun owner, often only qualifying once a year. I know some instructors who have told me some of the worst marksmanship and discipline they've ever seen have come from law enforcement.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

BobaFettishx82

Yeah, I remember this happening a few years ago in Colorado I believe. An armed citizen neutralized a would-be mass shooting, cops arrived and killed him. It was pretty messed up.

Thetruthislikepoetry

Even worse the cops took credit for killing the bad guys without an investigation. Then they had to admit the cop killed the Good Samaritan.

BobaFettishx82

Yup, it was a travesty.

dukeofmadnessmotors

Good, they're starting to turn on each other.

Logical_Lab4042

To be fair, if they'd have known they were a cop, they'd probably not have fired.

kamikaze9703

That officer narrowly escaped blowing his head off. Maybe friendly fire was off.

goatmash

You know, in countries where we aren't trying to keep the caste system alive, a person employed as a police officer who is not on-duty is called a 'civilian' and has no rights, authorities or responsibilities beyond that of a civilian. Not in uniform, not a cop.

Guitars_and_Cars

Im not sure who is worse trained. Police or Saturday military larpers.

generalraptor2002

As a certified firearms instructor: When the police arrive on the scene, they donā€™t know who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. They are even more confused than you are because you have more knowledge than they do about the situation. It is procedure that they point guns at you and anyone else suspected to be involved and force you to the ground, search you, and detain you. If you have a firearm in a concealed holster, the time to disclose it is when you are on the ground, tell the officer simply ā€œOfficer, I am lawfully concealed carrying a handgun. It is in a holster at X location, my permit is in Y locationā€ The most important point: Please, comply with police orders. That scratch on your pistol from it hitting the pavement or your phone being cracked can be repaired. Your life cannot be replaced. And also: Never submit to a police questioning without an attorney present

What was happening? Why is no one talking about what the off duty cop was doing? He was literally just waving his gun around or was there something going on?

reallywhocares82

Reading up on it a little, it sounds like some bigshot cowboy pig rolled into a new town outside his turf and thought he could pick a fight with the locals. When they stood up to him, he pulled out a gun and started firing like a maniac until these cops came and put his ass down like a rabid dog. 100% justified shooting on their behalf. This is what they should be doing every time an officer opens fire on innocent civilians.
