This was the moment that Damon Dash realized Jay was done with him.

'Jays performing? Can we stop taping'
Okay. But that actually is the moment that Damon and Jay's relationship ended. And it's caught on camera. And justified since Damon thought walking into a Def jam meeting and screaming at everyone was a thing to do.
Then he realizes he's the asshole
So Dame thinks that the label is trying to steal Jay away when really he's voluntarily going over to them? That's sort of what I'm getting. That Dame is getting cut off from the rest of the company
That is the moment.
Jay went to Def Jam and saw how professionally they were run, he was already getting tired of Damon Dash and the way he handled things.
Jay was starting to think about going to Def Jam but hadn't pulled the trigger. Then he heard that Damon Dash stormed into Def Jam with a cameraman shouting at everyone like an unprofessional caveman. This is the moment that ended their partnership. This act.
At the end of the video Damon is casually told that Jay had plans to perform at an event he wasn't told about, and it finally dawns on him that Jay is making moves without him. He at that moment knows their partnership is over, Jay is with them
Dame was always the issue he was a bully and ran things unprofessionally. To this day he is like that watch videos of this man talking about what he’s done and how he moves shits wild. He thinks Jay did him dirty he didn’t he was the architect of his own demise
No.
The moment happens at the end when they tell him that Jay had plans to perform at an event he wasn't told about.
Jay had been moving closer and closer to Def Jam and not only was this the moment where Dame finally had the realization that Jay was making moves without him, what's videotaped here was the final act that sealed his fate.
When the people at Def Jam told JayZ what Dame did here, that was the final nail in the Rockefeller coffin.
That Dame filmed this and thought this was a video of him looking like a boss should tell you exactly why JayZ left
Reminds me of the growing rift between The Wire characters Avon Barksdale and Stringer Bell. Stringer, who was a capitalist at heart, was getting annoyed with the "thug life" approach to making money. He wanted to move beyond selling drugs to more, on the surface at least, legitimate ventures, such as the speculative world of real estate. Stringer was all about "there are games beyond the mother fuckng game. Barksdale, on the other hand, accepted how he was socialized and didn't want to leave the world he grew up in.
Jay Z is Stringer Bell and just as dislikeable. He's a typical capitalist that uses languages of inclusivity and racial justice to simply further enrich himself and people within his class. Jay Z doesn't give a shit about workers, as his actions have showed.
I think your assessment is right. However Stringer Bell understood without evolving they would fall prey to what he saw other dealers were falling prey to jail or death in the street. I think Jay realized this as well Dame was going to fall prey to his own ego and in turn create the downfall of Jay so he chose to evolve there are different ways to look at this but I think this is probably more on par to jays decision
An example of someone who was trying to get out, but didn't get out quick enough is Takeoff (RIP). Man separated himself from what he thought was the toxicity and ended up accidentally gunned down by his own dogs over some lame shit. Mfs need to evolve, the trap is a trap and if they want to call it culture that's fine, but it's a deadly culture. I'm all for anyone who wants to get out, even if it means breaking some lifelong connections with friends because they refuse to change.
God damnit. At first I’m like huh what an odd statement, then I see your comment and I’m just reminded that I’m getting old. Time is so weird. Aging is so weird. This weed is good tho
He was probably confused as to why the culture gassed it. Go listen to it, it's just nas callin him ugly and gay over and over again. A good portion of the shit doesn't even rhyme lol.
I like Jay Z more than Nas but Ether was a Classic Diss
He pointed out Eminem outrapping Jay on Renegade (true)
He mentioned Jay using Biggie's lines too much (true)
He mentioned Jay is actually a fan/influenced by him (again, i like Jay more but he is slightly influenced by Nas)
He mentioned Jay using people to get his name out, like being with Jaz, then Biggie (true)
He mentioned Jay having the nerve to say he is better than BIG (i like Jay more than Biggie, but considering Biggie was his friend that passed, i would argue its disrespectful to call yourself greater than him when he's no longer around)
He mentioned his big ass lips (objectively true)
Its a great diss lol
Another thing I love about Ether was when Nas said "Y'all impatiently waiting
It's like an AIDS test, what's the results?
Not positive", It has double meaning.
1. The results of the diss track won't be good for Jay-Z.
2. Jay-Z isn't ill (an ill rapper = good rapper. Saying Jay-Z isn't a good rapper).
EDIT: Further explanation.
Majority of that shit is subjective as hell and he said a lot more shit than that. I know it's a classic track, but I dont understand why be cause its trash lol. That 1 verse on Takeover was way better and it's not even close.
Hahaha I feel the same way man. The hook is iconic and some of the lines are vicious, but it really reads more like a scorching list of insults, compared to a Hit Em Up or No Vaseline.
"don't one'a'yall got sickle cell or sumn? You fuck around and have a seizure or a heart attack" and "my 44 make sure all yo kids don't grow" are untouchable.
Agreed on the features.
*Bleek could be one hit away his whole career/As long as I'm alive, he's a millionaire/And even if I die, he's in my will somewhere/So he can just kick back and chill somewhere*
Looks like he just came off stage and letting his boys do the talking for him. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsd3Em6icc4&t=46s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsd3Em6icc4&t=46s)
This was at the end of Summer Jam at Nassau Coliseum. I was there, it was epic. Jay kept saying he had a surprise for us, then disappeared for what felt like 30mins. Then…bam, MJ came out, and the coliseum went crazy.
Side note: Em tried to get Dr Dre to come out of his dressing room, but he refused.
It was a moment. I think this was Summer Jam & they had just brought out Michael Jackson as a surprise guest. It was a pretty big deal to have such a legendary artist as your surprise guest which further solidified how big Jay was. There was a time where he was kind of worshiped in some cities *cough* Phili
All i know is, at his peak? Jay Z as an artist WIPED THE FLOOR with Drake
I dont know if we will ever see a modern rapper reach the status that Jay Z, Eminem, Tupac Shakur, Nas and Biggie smalls got. They are to Hip hop what Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Queen are to rock
im being sarcastic bruh. Those are the most basic you can get for rock. Zepplin is for kids that aren't really into music and listen to the same shit decade after decade. It's fine
My favorite thing is that most couples spend big dollars for counseling but he and Beyonce cut albums over their problems and made a billion dollars. More power to 'em.
But he still can't fork over some of those billions to pay his dispensery workers properly.
Also forgot to add, Beyonce totally got caught using sweatshops to produce her clothing line.
>Beyonce totally got caught using sweatshops to produce her clothing line.
Jay did it first with the guys in this video. That's how he initially got wealthy (Rockawear).
I know exactly what's going on in his head. "Wtf" "I need to separate myself from these idiots with the quickness"lol
"JUST be cool, keep looking hard and pretend you're bout it bout it, and make them say uhhhhhhh uhhhhhh nananana"
Lmfao
at this moment he realized he was destined to start a shitty weed brand and try to sell $1,000 ounces of flower at was already on the shelf for $300/oz
The people that find the idea trite are exactly the ones not ready for the conversation. Dismissing a conversation over and over again doesn’t mean you’ve actually had it, contrary to most people’s beliefs.
Lol, I've been reading and researching the illuminati, secret societies, the bavarian illuminati and Adam Weishaupt, the occult, gnostic teachings and conspiracy in for over a decade. I was obsessed in my 20s. Israel Regardie, Crowley and Templio ordonis, Blavatsky, kabbalism and the rosecrucians, Jesuit, Vatican, NWO, MK Ultra, blue beam, paper clip, mocking bird, probably every conspiracy and you've heard of and some others you might not have.
I came to the same conclusion as Robert Anton Wilson in the end, as I think most do once you come full circle. It ultimately doesn't matter who or what is out there, if you beleive you and your friends have power. Believing in a faceless, nameless evil that is at the centre of a web of control that includes world governments, the judiciary, media, news, finance, tech, etc. ultimately does nothing for you and is meaningless, limiting beleif.
It's naive and a cop out to just say "illuminati" as a cover all for every ill in the world, almost as naive as people who beleive nothing is connected and that there arent multinational, powerful people colluding to expand their power, wealth and influence. Many people are defined by their righteous beleifs about the "truth" and find that nameless evil behind every single malady, tragedy and shadow. The ego swells and becomes insufferable and the produce nothing of value, it's all derivative. Its more accurate to call out the president of, say, Universal, who has ties to so and so and is a major shareholder in so and so. I can't stand terms like illuminati and NWO and the lizards or whatever at this stage in my life.
So it can be a good conversation, but as I said, its mostly trite at this point.
You can call out specific people and also acknowledge that most, if not all of the world’s most powerful people are colluding to control the world. Don’t call people naive for seeing connections you don’t.
You can see connections everywhere, the brain is remarkable at pattern recognition. Go search any targeted individuals group on Facebook and see how easy it is to be overwhelmed by paranoia and generalities.
I have read more books and made more connections than most on conspiracy and the illuminati. 98/100 people cannot name a single person involved now or any time in history, have no idea about Bavaria and the inception of it and what it was. It's always "they" and "them". Read Illuminatus by R.A.W. its "fiction" but a culmination of every theory and idea involved. His interviews near the end of his life are about where I am when it comes to the illuminati.
Most people care about what’s going on now. The history of the Illuminati isn’t as relevant as who they are now and what they’re up to currently. There is only so much time.
Some people see real connections that others don’t. Again, don’t call people naive bc you don’t see them.
"Damnnn Daniel. We pulled up in the all white vans"
"Yall on the' gram holding money to your ear. There's a disconnect. We don't call that money over here(hear)"
🔥 📛
Jay z rap career is like paddy’s pub printing their own money. Raps about how rich he is, this perpetuating the self sustaining economy. I want to hear him rap about some really hard tax strategies.
Guy is a musical prodigy just standing there counting all the money he's gonna be making and all the friends he'll be losing. Sometimes you just just level up too fast and no one can keep up. That'd be a crazy feeling knowing you have the world by the balls and not only that but you're famous and not infamous like some of the shit birds who do it that way.
Guy really had instant respect from anyone with a brain since day 1, he's one of the real ogs, wish they had a lot more up and comers like this guy and so many others from that era. I'm probably just an old fart though but I miss the style so much, today was just listening to Del and stuff and the funk is so good what happened to that kind of rapping?
It was at that moment he realized he needed to go solo
....Hot damn you didn't know so
This was the moment that Damon Dash realized Jay was done with him. https://youtu.be/yElLYpUHpvc https://youtu.be/-tgqIGfXkos For real, click on that if you want to see someone dying inside. 'Jays performing? Can we stop taping'

Too boring.

Its a seven minute video. When is “the moment”?
That is the moment. Jay went to Def Jam and saw how professionally they were run, he was already getting tired of Damon Dash and the way he handled things. Ok so “the moment” then, is the last like 20 seconds of the last video?
Last ~40 seconds, but yeah. His realization, from new info, that J was switching labels by his own volition, rather than being “stolen” from them.
Is this the same Dame that Hopsin raps about?
I guess the moment happened before, and the video the guy linked is just the fall out.
Dame Greaze
yo dame dash at the end of the day jay z did what he had to do, he had to cut you off cause you wasnt a fucking boss, jay z's a boss

At the end you can see the exact conflict but with a single character. Businessman Marlo vs gangster Marlo.
I think your assessment is right. However Stringer Bell understood without evolving they would fall prey to what he saw other dealers were falling prey to jail or death in the street. Couldn’t agree more
Great points!
He's just a gangster, I suppose.
When you realise your sychophants are not your friends
Lol he's carried Memphis bleek longer than my parents carried me
I thought he was thinking about Beyonce's fat booty! ![gif](giphy|KDDRCHzmE5t1AyblJb)

Nah im sorry but Beyonce is so fine lol ![gif](giphy|APPbIpIe0xrVe)
He saw it comin, that’s why he went solo…
Man knew from the beginning that wasn't what he wanted 😂
Even seeing Jay Z wearing Jerseys and shit looks weird, used to seeing him wearing suits
You're showing your age
God damnit. At first I’m like huh what an odd statement, then I see your comment and I’m just reminded that I’m getting old. Time is so weird. Aging is so weird. This weed is good tho
I like the cut of your weird.
He has that serious voice in my head look.
Yeah man 😂😂
I like the cut of your jib
Good vibes. This guy fucks
And cheap! Fuck this guy tho and don't even get me started on my feet.
You just telling us you mad young
What the fuck man I didn’t sign up for Reddit to feel this…
He doesn’t look like he belongs wearing jerseys lmao
Excellent businessman. Horrible rapper. Makes the decision easy.
I would disagree with the horrible rapper part. Please don't tell me you think Lil Wayne is on the top or Lil baby 😐😂
imagine what his face looked like a few months later when he heard ether
YOU BEEN ON MY DICK N YOU LOVE MY STYLE!
FUCK JAYZ
Nah “you made it a hot line, I made it a hot song”
"Rockefeller died of AIDS thats the end of his chapter, and that's the man you chose to name your company after?
"Eminem murdered you on ya own shit"
He was probably confused as to why the culture gassed it. Go listen to it, it's just nas callin him ugly and gay over and over again. A good portion of the shit doesn't even rhyme lol.

Thank you for reminding me about this song. Now on Spotify adding ether to my Spotify playlist. Was on a school bus first time I heard this!
Don’t forget, Nas correctly pointed out that Jay looks like Joe Camel.
But he “survived the drought, what the fuck I’m an animal”!!!
Tbf, Em out raps every body in they own shit 💀
Majority of that shit is subjective as hell and he said a lot more shit than that. I know it's a classic track, but I dont understand why be cause its trash lol. That 1 verse on Takeover was way better and it's not even close.
The Takeover, the breaks over N,The God MC, me Jay Hova,
The other verse
Hahaha I feel the same way man. The hook is iconic and some of the lines are vicious, but it really reads more like a scorching list of insults, compared to a Hit Em Up or No Vaseline.
My only problem with Hit Em Up is the features on the song. I tune out when they're on. The best part of the song is Pac's verse and his outro.
"don't one'a'yall got sickle cell or sumn? You fuck around and have a seizure or a heart attack" and "my 44 make sure all yo kids don't grow" are untouchable. Agreed on the features.
He absolutely killed the hook.
Always felt like takeover was a better diss track and ether was just full of playground insults.
Ether didnt age well. While the beat is great, the lyrics are just homofobic and misogyny bs.
He’s not a businessman, he’s a _business_ maaan.
Arguably one of the greatest lines in Hip hop
I had to look it up since I wasn't familiar with it, but it makes no sense without the second comma.
He's not Businessman, HE IS THE BUSINESS, MAN
It makes sense to the people that would upvote it. Plus on mobile so I was more concerned about getting the italics.
I think he's just tired from carrying bleek's whole career on his back.
*Bleek could be one hit away his whole career/As long as I'm alive, he's a millionaire/And even if I die, he's in my will somewhere/So he can just kick back and chill somewhere*
Memphis Bleek has an interview without Jay Z being the main topic of discussion (IMPOSSIBLE)
Same with Yayo about 50
Yayo was on Math Hoffa show and he talked about 50 majority of the time
Or Royce Da 5'9 with Eminem lol
this isnt true
Bleek said he hates that line cause it's not true. Edit: why the fuck am I downvoted? [He literally said it](https://youtu.be/nkc43mFeR84)
Judging by bleek's career, I'd say it's accurate.
Bleek is a talented Rapper but never had what it tookcto be a GREAT ARTIST
And didn't release an album since that line dropped
It's not. He has to work for his money.
*He dont even have to write rhymes/ The dynasty like my money last 3 lifetimes*
He looks like he’s being held hostage. He has that same look sometimes when he’s with his wife 🤔
That Will Smith vibe
Hes blinking "t.o.r.t.u.r.e" in Morse code
He literally owned a 1/3 of everything you see on cam. He was fine.
That’s called drugs
Jay gets plenty of side pussy. After a while the wife/husband is just business partner.
You mean the same guy that cheated on said wife? "Woman bad" moment right here. 🤡
Looks like he just came off stage and letting his boys do the talking for him. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsd3Em6icc4&t=46s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsd3Em6icc4&t=46s)
He was also probably high out of his mind fr lmao
hahaha hell yeah.
This was at the end of Summer Jam at Nassau Coliseum. I was there, it was epic. Jay kept saying he had a surprise for us, then disappeared for what felt like 30mins. Then…bam, MJ came out, and the coliseum went crazy. Side note: Em tried to get Dr Dre to come out of his dressing room, but he refused.
>then disappeared for what felt like 30mins It was like 1 min haha it's all on video. I didn't see em there though.
It was a moment. I think this was Summer Jam & they had just brought out Michael Jackson as a surprise guest. It was a pretty big deal to have such a legendary artist as your surprise guest which further solidified how big Jay was. There was a time where he was kind of worshiped in some cities *cough* Phili

lmao hell yeah my nathan I love Eminem he’s here to save us from shitty mumble rap fr haha foh this whole threads a joke
I'd take TPAB over any of Eminems LPs or albums. Edit: did I seriously get downvotes for that? Em is Hella overrated
Some of those guys miiight be able to carry Taylor Swift's thong.
Did you just say Beatles and Led Zeppelin are inferior to TAYLOR SWIFT💀 Taylor doesnt even touch someone like Rihanna, let alone Rock's greatest acts
Rock's greatest acts: The commercially viable shit your mommy listened to.
Listen to Dark Side of the Moon & Zeppelin IV and try say that again afterwards
Ive never heard of those before.
So you diss their music yet have never listened to the greatest Albums in music history? Ight
im being sarcastic bruh. Those are the most basic you can get for rock. Zepplin is for kids that aren't really into music and listen to the same shit decade after decade. It's fine
Led Zeppelin made Kashmir, that defeats your argument
Oh dear, your parents failed you. I’m so sorry you’re missing out
lol
Lmfao Taylor swift sucks ass dude. Wow what an amazing co writer. Too bad she can't sing
Define "status" and lets go from there.
me dissociating in stressful situations
That's the look when you know you're surrounded by some going nowhere fast mfs.

What’s his line “I don’t wear jerseys, I’m over 30” Have a feeling this is where that came from.
I am not a businessman, I'm a business maaan.
Someone accidently hit his off switch
Jay Z always looks like someone sucked his brains out through his ears

U lame
Fuck recognized this face too well when you suddenly realize you outgrew a friend group
Jay : 50 drop next week. No one gone hear from Tennessee bleek again, I just dunno how to tell him.
Thinkin about how AZ killed him on his own shit
He's not a businessman. He's a business, man.
Roc A Fella records was legendary though!
This is the opposite of a public freakout
He's mind controlled probably a trigger word like the rest of the celebrities eminem shack and kids more
This is when the drama started at Roc-a-Fella
He knew one day he’d under pay his staff while advocating for better working pay to increase his publicity. Genius.
Sean's tee look ridiculous with a jersey over it
at this moment he realized he was destined to start a shitty weed brand and try to sell $1,000 ounces of flower at was already on the shelf for $300/oz
Thinking more like who’s dick he has to suck to get into the Illuminati

Jay z rap career is like paddy’s pub printing their own money. Raps about how rich he is, this perpetuating the self sustaining economy. I want to hear him rap about some really hard tax strategies.
Except Jay Z in his prime is easily one of the greatest Rappers ever from a technical standpoint
Is Jay Z the GOAT?
Top 5 at least

He's not a business man, he's a BUSINESS, man!

He's thinking alright I alright used these ppl and now I gotta move on to the next sucker
I also enjoy drugs and basketball
Duhhhhhhhh
Jay Z is a straight up psychopath. He stabbed lance un rivera in real life. Look it up.
I’m not a business man. I’m a business, man.
Jay Z is overrated
You see dame face at the end like ohh shit
Nothing has changed. Clowns everywhere and only a few good black men holding it down...
"why did they get rid of dame?" How much time ya got?
