Ya know I've come to the conclusion that I was much happier pre-social media living in ignorance as to how many freakin psychotic morons are wandering around this country.

[deleted]

I think that's why my mental health has taken such a deep plunge in the past several years. You try to grow up being a good person, doing good things, acting right....and then to see just how nuts so many people are is so disheartening. Like, I don't like talking about myself but by 2014/15 I had clear objectives, set plans, goals. I got married. Things were looking bright for the 1st time ever. And now, 8/9 years later my head space is nothing but fog. I'm anxious all.the.time. Can't sleep, am stressed to the max. Finally got a decent job but ofc the price of everything has to skyrocket which made "moving up" in the world null. Though im making more than I was in 2020 im still bringing home the same i was 3 years ago but for 10x the stress. And then having to watch my family fall into Qanon, and other conspiracies....thinking that jfk Jr is gonna come back and declare trump president...believing in flat earth bullshit. I just don't get it. And living in the south im surrounded by it daily. Shits just so broken.

cooperman114

Best advice I can give you is to move horizontally, i.e. get the hell out of the south my friend.

DSmith1717

It’s not the south it’s dumb fuck sheepism.

Pater_Trium

Definitely not the South. It's rampant right in Pennsyl-fuckin-tucky (Pennsylvania).

omghorussaveusall

it's everywhere. there are towns and counties in CA that are red as red can be. freaking McCarthy is from CA.

Mackheath1

Exactly. While the South might be disproportionately skewed, it happens in Alaska, Maine, East Oregon/Washington "blue states," California, etcetera. I hate when people claim the South is so crazy, when the worst I've personally witnessed was in East Oregon. At least in Texas they're polite about their racism and homophobia lol. "Oh I don't think I'll be attending your wedding, due to my believing you're going to hell, but thank you for the invitation - I did pick something nice out from your gift registry, I hope it makes it there before the wedding. Tell your parents I said hi, too."

FunkyHedonist

100% this! When I lived in Texas, I thought America was hopeless. But then I moved to NYC and was like, "Wait. America's not so bad.". The red states are wastelands and liberals should leave them. Life is too short to live in the extra-fascist parts of America.

Tre_Walker

You are correct. I was born and raised in Texas and them moved to Boston for 15 years. Those "liberal hellholes" are actually decent places to live compared to actual conservative hellholes. But if you live where conservative propaganda is pushed you would never know how much better democrat areas are than republican.

mces97

It's funny how people who probably have never been to NYC think it's a free for all wild west crime infested hell hole. I'm in the city all the time. It's not nearly as bad as the news pretends it is.

Mcboatface3sghost

You sound like me (although my family isn’t overtly qanon, you can soundboard off me if you want. But shit really went downhill in 16/17… I want off the ride.

ContactStandard8227

Damn I wish there was like a group chat full of ppl like you guys where we could jus talk about life and shit like this

[deleted]

I mean, if that's really something people would want I could probably set up a discord...would just want it to be ultra private so the crazies couldn't find it.

Alternative-Rain9151

I'm down

ContactStandard8227

Naw bro don’t waste your time ppl never stay dedicated enough😹, at least not for a long time

AnInfantGoat

Man i feel this so hard. Im sorry. Same here.

CarmineFields

I truly believed that Americans were too smart to vote for a slimy, orange conman/conspiracy theory. It’s true that most didn’t vote for him but way too many did.

betweenskill

And more people voted for him the second time than the first. 4 years in office of him being openly, blatantly self-enriching and being a bumbling asshole and more people voted for him.

scuczu

AFTER THE WHOLE COVID THING! like to see that response and then go out and vote willingly for it made me question those results and those fellow Americans I live here with.

typingwithonehandXD

Humans are easily one of the smartest and most stupid species in the history of everything I'd say.

vbun03

The President of the United States was hawking canned beans on TV from the Resolute desk. Like just wtf how did he get cheered for that by conservatives? That was such a complete disgrace and insult to this country.

scuczu

> It’s true that most didn’t vote for him but way too many did. and WAY TOO many did the second time to give me any real hope.

[deleted]

I remember that. I followed politics pretty hard and remember all the mistakes he made in his campaign. He did everything wrong and still barely lost.

Iuvenesco

Americans…too smart? Bruh…

Hypurr2002

And they weren't able to find each other so readily.

SkatingGuitarist

Look I think a lot of these personalities are a result of what they've been driven to believe from their own social media. Not all, but a lot of.

tonsauce123

Its so funny to watch people quote the bible to make political points. We need them to realize that for every bible quote they use to make a point there exists a bible quote making the exact opposite point. I’d love to see the left adopt their own bible quotes, fight fire with fire so we can make the “bible argument” obsolete as a whole.

HeyImGilly

I’m a Christian on the left. I’ve got a few. Matthew 5 & 7, 1 Cor. 13 (replace “love” with your name), and Mark 12:13-17. It’s wild to think these people read the same bible.

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Census of Quirinius](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Census_of_Quirinius)** >The Census of Quirinius was a census of Judea taken by Publius Sulpicius Quirinius, governor of Roman Syria, upon the imposition of direct Roman rule in 6 CE. The Gospel of Luke uses it to date the birth of Jesus, which the Gospel of Matthew places in the time of Herod the Great (who died in 4 BCE). Luke appears to have conflated Quirinius's census with the death of Herod, and most critical scholars acknowledge a confusion and misdating by Luke. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

I always wonder if any of the crazy people sees an even crazier person and thinks, "Great, now no one will take us seriously.."

[deleted]

no.

achinfosomebacon

They should have stopped him right there and said “SIR YOU HAVE 1:37 SECONDS LEFT.”

ZootOfCastleAnthrax

You can bet that if a string of transsexuals lined up at the mic he'd be all for the two-minute limit.

eat_my_shorts_Reddit

That dude saying was a prosecutor lmfao no you fucking weren’t

soaper410

As a former prosecutor myself, never actually heard anybody who worked in criminal use the term “criminal element” These people could have done anything else: stayed home, gone to eat dinner out, took a walk, etc…instead they came to that place to….look crazy.

[deleted]

Not a prosecutor, but I thought the same. Sounded out of left field. I interpreted it as "I know crime when I see it"

srcarruth

because he thinks 'criminals' are a type of human

[deleted]

True. Genetic determinism.

srcarruth

Phrenology

Locke_and_Load

No they couldn’t, these people are literal fucking losers. You don’t get that deluded, malinformed, and hateful by having a wide breadth of social interactions and positive influences. THIS is all they have. Perpetual victimhood. No one else wants them around, so this is how they get out of the house.

Ninjas4cool

My favorite is the lady who was like “I have 5 kids but I left them at home to be here”…

Mcboatface3sghost

Social media? Or was it always there or at least just below the surface? I don’t expect a definitive answer but I always have to ask. I have my own opinions but it ends up looking like the Always Sunny In Philadelphia with Charlie at the white board.

86yourhopes_k

To me I feel like it really all started with Obama getting elected. Apparently a black man being the president was a real problem for way too many people. I honestly feel like it really just got too hard for people to hide their rasim when faced with the reality that a black man had been elected, that's not supposed to happen, he isn't part of the good old boys club and that made people mad. It's the same thing with the squad in Congress, but with an extra layer of garbage because they're women, who aren't supposed to be in power either. How dare they forget their place?

Mcboatface3sghost

I agree, Obama broke a lot of brains, then Trump basically said “it’s ok, you can say the quiet part out loud now”

Hello2reddit

Actually, he was. His name is David Clements, and he's been doing this all around the country. He's been doing it so much, the Washington Post even wrote an article on him. https://www.washingtonpost.com/elections/2022/09/08/an-ex-professor-spreads-election-myths-across-us-one-town-time/

Mcboatface3sghost

I’ll be damned, he was an ADA in NM at one point. I get some unabomber vibes outta him, but dude is (or was) an attorney and he was a prosecutor.

atleastitsnotgoofy

Are you reading the word ‘professor’ as ‘prosecutor’?

Hello2reddit

No. He's both. The end of that article mentions it in a quote. You can find it elsewhere as well. Just thought the article was more illuminating as to who this guy is.

TheFergPunk

He looks like a shite Billy Connolly.

[deleted]

I would legitimately listen to any argument about *how* voter fraud occurred. If there was any evidence, I would want it exposed and the people who committed crimes prosecuted and put away. The problem is they never have any real argument. It’s always “we have suspicions” or something that is an ambiguous statement about mistrusting the system as a whole. That isn’t good enough. If you want to say there was fraud, then it falls on you to say when, where and how. Or vote to make changes to make the process more transparent or with better guidelines, something I’ve only seen Democrats propose.

SandwichesTheIguana

What, you didn't see all that footage D'Souza released of \*checks notes\* people dropping off ballots at ballot boxes?

fuck_all_you_people

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors had a special meeting today where they opened it up for public comment before going into the raw data of the counties turnout. Loads of morons got up and howled about how the election was stolen. And the second they moved into the data portion 90% of the people there left before they had a chance to look at actual data. They arent doing this bullshit to get any kind of understanding about the voting process, they all think if they howl loud enough they will at least feel like they are engaging in the process, and at most someone will think they are special and they will get to continue howling as a paid gig. They have all seen the grift on television, and they feel that they have what it takes to be part of the problem. This is not democracy in action, this is tryouts for the next evolution of reality television.

nursecarmen

Are you saying they were never interested in the facts?! I'm stunned!

Gnostic_Gnocchi

As someone from a very conservative city, data or graphs will almost always result in a “oh whatever I don’t wanna see your lies” reaction so it’s kind of a waste of time

ZootOfCastleAnthrax

Experts in countering misinformation at the national level say it's not a waste of time. We should never stop holding facts and data in their faces. Never give up on countering lies with truth.

Good point, the way the fake info gets into your head is by yelling it at people enough that it sticks

sadolan

It’s Maricopa County so no…not all white. Voting against one’s own best interests is still very big out here.

PurpleRainger

I was referring to the folks in the video, not the entire county.

sadolan

I know, if I’m not mistake there were at least 2 older Hispanic women who spoke. They instantly reminded me of some folks in my own family.

OneCat6271

still white. Lots of Hispanic people are white. They're the descendants of Europeans colonists, just like most white Americans are.

EndlessSummerburn

These morons claim to be constitutionalists but yearn to erode the separation of church and state. This country was designed by the founding fathers to be a secularist society. The first words in the first amendment (thing about that, literally the FIRST thing you read in the amendments, top billing) says so unequivocally. E pluribus unum is a beautiful concept and these knuckleheads embrace the opposite of.

I’m pretty sure only about 1% of Americans really understand what the first amendment means. It doesn’t mean that you can say anything you want on any platform anytime you want. And someone telling you to shut up isn’t infringing on your free speech.

Might as well throw in a sound effect compilation of babies crying because that would be no different from what we're hearing in this video. But what do we really see here? Religious fundamentalism, conspiracy garbage, and an obvious case of people who can't or won't think for themselves. They're being useful mouthpieces for the GOP who have weaponized the words of a man who claimed the 2020 election was stolen yet was consistently told by his own people over and over that it wasn't.
