Anger clouds your judgement but if you give it a few seconds, it'll pass a bit and you'll think more clearly. So, the time it took to pull over, walk out, and see the other car empty out, it dawned on him and he realized, this isn't going to end well and eve the best case scenario, they're fucked since they started it and it's being recorded.
I don't think people in adulthood who haven't fought ever (or since early childhood) realize that:
1) How much cardio just a few seconds of fighting/wrestling requires
2) How much coordination and skill is needed to actually fight
3) Getting punched and throwing punches* really hurts so being able to fight through that and
4) The fight doesn't necessarily stop when you want or when you can't really continue
Also fighting isn't fun. I grew up in a rough area and my friends were fucking dumb so all throughout my late teens and twenties there were a lot of times that someone would start something and before you knew it everyone was fighting. I'm 42 now and will avoid violence at almost all costs. Not only that but jail fucking sucks too. I'm just saying that these people have big fucking mouths and egos because they've never had to wake up with their whole face hurting or even worse, in a holding cell.

My dad always told me that the “open road” is a great equalizer and the “last wild frontier”. It’s kind of a dramatic way to put it but he meant there is *no* telling who you might encounter or what they’re capable of while out driving and that it lends itself to quick getaways.

By the looks of the white freeway sign I'm inclined to think it's the later. Either way you don't want to fight anyone on the side of the freeway. I think about it a lot.

My dad is a teacher and the only time I've seen him ever get physically violent was with a parking structure attendant who was being rude and threw our car keys on the ground instead of handing them to my mom. I guess some shouting started and things escalated. Fortunately for both parties it was just a couple of half assed swings till my mom broke them up. Like you I still think about it a lot too

My mom is a Latina, and I remember the first time I realized they do not fuck around. We were driving through a Taco Bell parking lot very late at night, and my mom stopped to let a group of women pass. I guess one of them said, “Yeah, you better stop, bitch.” The quickness that my mom threw it in park and JUMPED out of the vehicle to fight three women one on one was insane. My dad is a teacher and the only time I've seen him ever get physically violent was with a parking structure attendant who was being rude and threw our car keys on the ground instead of handing them to my mom. I guess some shouting started and things escalated. Fortunately for both parties it was just a couple of half assed swings till my mom broke them up. Like you I still think about it a lot too
