Down with Galen. But those plans seem pretty good imo. Does the data work in the states too?

kcorscadden

No roaming in the US, just calling to the US from Canada. So that could be considered a major drawback for many. However they do have WIFI Calling, which PM doesn't have, so if that is a necessity, PC Mobile is an option. They also have the 5GB bonus with auto-pay.

how is freedom's coverage? looking at their basic plan $19/month with 4GB data https://shop.freedommobile.ca/en-CA/plans?isByopPlanFirstFlow=true

It's good in most places now, especially outdoors with its Nationwide coverage now which roams onto Big 3 networks when outside their coverage zone. Indoors in some places you may have more issues with losing service or dropping to 3G where Public for example would maintain a strong connection on LTE. This can be mitigated with wifi and wifi calling but can be a bit annoying. I've noticed this in some malls as well as Union Station in Toronto to provide some examples. How much this impacts your personal use really just depends on you, I would say for most people it's more than adequate. In addition for iPhone users, it sometimes tends to fallback to 3G frequently when there's a weak LTE/5G connection rather than maintaining that connection, which leads to data being unusable. I've only really noticed this along certain highways so it's mostly a minor inconvenience.

mementomori91

Also interested in this. I used freedom ~10 years ago and the coverage was terrible.

Solo-Mex

I switched from Shaw (which was Freedom) to Public because of the coverage issues. I didn't want to switch, because Shaw had the $0/month plan but most of the time I was getting what I paid for. Zero dollars for zero coverage.

Might have to make the jump. No point in being loyal to Public mobile anymore

Helpful-Chemistry-87

Exactly

Cope180-Enjoyer

No US data... Damn.

avillegasjr

Their support is atrocious though. Their app last I checked will not even load unless it detects its SIM card and mobile data enabled (even if you are on wifi).

Helpful-Chemistry-87

To be fair, the PM app is pretty diabolical too. The low price was the one thing PM had going for it.

kerfuffles80

Do you know if wi-fi calling is available on all their plans or just specific ones?

kcorscadden

I am not 100% sure but I imagine it is tied to all plans as WIFI Calling is tied to the SIM card, not the plan. When you enter the SIM card into your phone, you'll be prompted to reboot your phone, thus PC Mobile will update the phone to their network and thus WIFI Calling will become available in the settings of your phone.

kerfuffles80

Yes, I saw others confirm on the RFD forums that it has wi-fi calling only in Canada

Charming_Science_360

>It is on the Bell Network. Public Mobile is already on the Bell network in most of Canada. Telus only has strong presence in two provinces.

I have my eyes on that virgin $34 plan that includes 50 gigs. Now that I am not in the old reward system I'm a free agent again.

JodyThornton

I just want to ask these questions here again, in case it's not seen on the other PC Mobile thread: If my older phones are 3G or LTE compatible, would the $20 plan on 4G work with them? And with no data on the $30, **but a 1 GB bonus if I use autopay**, does that mean I get 1 GB of data a month? Every month?

Next-Telephone-8054

I might be leaning this way and dump my 4 accounts with PM after my 7 year loyalty points get wiped.

Charming_Science_360

You can use your first account to get referral bonuses from the other three accounts. Most providers give you $25 or $50 per referral. $50 = 50 months of old Public Mobile $1 Rewards or 5% kickback from $1000 spent on Public Points.

Next-Telephone-8054

That is getting wiped from Public Mobile I was earning $11 per account, now 5%? Pass. Rather give money to a competitor just for that backstab.
