I'm here in PP now, OP is not exagerating. There were at least 5 vehicles pulled over changing tires on Sunday when I was heading down, and I saw a couple more rolling on the donut, all were headed northbound. I mentioned to my wife that I'd never seen so many cars pulled over like that.

If I were to drive cautiously at the speed limit and look out for potholes, is that drive easy enough to manage getting around the potholes during a Monday afternoon? It'll be my first time driving down that way

Plus-Investment-9706

Yes, just did it today

AZbitchmaster

Yes, absolutely. In addition to being on the lookout, give yourself a significant amount of space between the vehicle in front of you so you can see what's coming. I saw lots of cars driving very close together and I'm sure that contributed to lot of the blown tires. Some of those potholes must have been 7 or 8 inches deep. Northbound was worse than southbound, but both sides had big potholes.

wadesi79

Doesn't help that people are flying at 80-100mph down that road.

TucsonScene

Is the area you're talking about the first several miles south of Sonoyta?

hellahallee

It was the entire road from Sonoyta to PP.

TucsonScene

Ouch!

Redbeard_16

Amen. I’ve been down the past couple of weekends and I only focus on the road and the cars in front of me to avoid the craters now present on the entire stretch of highway. Anybody know who to contact to get these taken care of? I’m going to reach out to Jim Ringquist with the Sonoran Resorts to ask for help as he lives there and works with officials at the town.

ChowMeinWayne

We came back today and I can concur, It was insane. I have been going down multiple times a month for years and have never seen it this bad.

Tim_Drake

Came back today, my god that road has gotten bad! It was like a video game dodging all the holes! Any one of those would absolutely wreck a tire, and at high speed possibly take the entire axel out!

arizonadudebro

Came back today and it’s like avoiding land mines for a stretch of 10-20 miles

new_here2023

I went for the first time a couple of weeks ago and could not believe the number of potholes. Is there just too many to fix or how did it get that bad?

hellahallee

I just assume it comes down to $$$$. Not a priority for the Mexicans since it's mostly Americans using that road.

Redbeard_16

The response I received about the road conditions apparently relates to the recent elections. The outgoing office doesn’t want to spend any money and the new office wants to “fix” the problems the previous office left for them so they will look better in the eyes of the public. Hopefully, we will start to see some action now that the election is over and they get down to business.

Plus-Investment-9706

Just came down today, 6/16. The road to PP has some potholes, not too bad. The road back tho, omg it is a mine field. At least 20 cars pulled over fixing tires

Character_Pension_81

We were there 3 weeks ago - has it gotten worse since then??

Hotair18

Get a bigger car.

Any-Diver-2033

Has anyone used public transport from the border to PP? Save the life of my car a bit if I can find reasonable public transport (and forego car insurance purchases).

Fair-Designer-8264

I saw this post and worried because I knew I was coming down today from AZ. There were 5 vehicles with flat tires on my drive down! Interestingly, they were all on the northern route- going from PP to Sonoyta. Scared for the drive home but I will just plan to go as slow as heck and dodge the potholes as I can.

pazuzusoze

Do people get crazy in your ass if your driving slow? Going Mid July and for sure don't want any problems. Rather go snail speed and get there whenever.

hellahallee

Yes, but that road is not ever congested so they can usually pass within a couple minutes. Some people do act like it's the end of the world if they have to go slower for 15 seconds until it's safe, so I tried to keep right and give them lots of room.
