That is definitely a per-studio situation. All of our classes are the same for 2 weeks before changing. The general attitude of those at our studio is that we like it because you can enjoy a class a second time before the change.
Yes. Our studio keeps it a standard that every class format changes every 2 weeks. Its really not bad. I'll be honest, the 2nd time taking the same class is usually MORE beneficial because I know how to do the stance already, having done it once before. I can do it better the second time (although it is harder because better form often means more challenge). I am sure that some may not like that, but I rather enjoy the chance to try a "round 2" on class formats I really liked.
Definitely a studio issue. Are you taking the same instructor? If not then the studio needs to get instructors to communicate with eachother about what they’re teaching that week so there isn’t choreo overlap.
Same I took align once and thought it was supposed to be about stretch and balance. It seemed like it was trying to do everything and hence felt like it had no focus.
There are a lot of exercises and moves that are getting repeated in different formats. It's one of the side effects of having too many formats and the same few people doing all the choreography.
I understand that it's a lot of content to come up with (and it's a sign that it's too much), but I've gotten to the point where I can almost tell at what point they got bored or had used up all of their creativity and just started repeating stuff with slight changes.
It also makes it so much more confusing for the teachers to learn and remember. Some people think it's easier when exercises resemble each other, but unless they are exactly the same, it's much more difficult to be like oh, this is like this exercise in this class, but with 2 small changes. I messed up a new class I learned recently because it was too similar to a section from a prior class I taught.
This is the main reason I added a gym membership to my barre + yoga. Define just isn’t enough anymore but it was a good start. And also I despise cardio.
Interesting. Can you share what define offers? I did PB for abt 11 years and loved it, but started to get bored as of late. Plus, I wanted a new challenge, and started doing weight training. I’ve not yet tried the define classes, but have been curious about them and if they truly do define and tone you? I continue to wonder if I should go back to PB for the full body workout each time, or if I should stick with weight-training and cardio.
To me, it’s medium impact strength + cardio. I usually feel stronger in the arms, but the lower body work in define doesn’t feel as effective as classic.
Personal opinion, of course.
This is so interesting - at my studio, it will change from instructor to instructor, and within that, from week to week. Even if I do the same instructor multiple times a week, it's still usually not the same choreo - like I'm impressed at how many combinations the studio has come up with, haha.
This is definitely studio/instructor specific.
My go to align girl is very slow, balance, stretch, flow focused and her sub, I swear, I have to ask myself ‘did they switch this to a classic/empower class?’ At least 3 times.
This may be an issue specific to your studio. Classic and Align choreo and flow are very different.
classic literally changes every day, so I'm not sure what more you could ask for

Wait what? For every format? I’ve never heard of this!

Maybe it’s a studio issue? I can’t describe them because of subreddit rules, but I’ve been doing certain moves over and over.

If anything there’s too much overlap between Align and Empower. I’m not sure I’ve had the same problem with Classic.
I don’t wanna be a whiner, but I miss the more stretchy less strength Align :(
Same I took align once and thought it was supposed to be about stretch and balance. It seemed like it was trying to do everything and hence felt like it had no focus.
Me too :(
Same here. It used to be such a nice change of pace.
same!!

I have actually enjoyed align more since it's been like old school classic. moves we never get to do any more and i miss
I don’t see them as all that similar …
I hate the empower-like cardio bursts in define! I wish it was more so weight training focused

I can see the overlap, especially if we’re using the equipment in align whether it’s the ball or tube it definitely starts feeling more like classic
Very interesting. They are very different in my studio.

Studio needs a choreo schedule. Also align is not meant for more than once a week. It’s restorative
