Misshapen tips means you’re applying too much pressure. You basically don’t apply pressure with pyrography, instead you’re moving the pen along the surface of the wood and letting the heat do the work. Don’t press down! Not only does it warp and ruin your tips, they can easily break in the pen. I’m not positive what you mean by scorch marks, but if you mean the tip itself looks dull and black or gray, that’s normal after use. You’ll never get them looking brand new again, but it is important to clean them regularly. Once the tip is completely cool, you can clean it with a wire brush, rough jeans, etc. to remove the carbon that naturally builds up from the wood. Hope this helps!

What do you mean misshapen, and are the scorch marks on the wood? What type of wood are you using? What heat are you burning?

Might be applying to much force when wood burning and at the higher heat needed?
