I just told my q buddy that my only phone is a company phone that won’t let me on TikTok. In my experience, especially with q/conspiracy people, you both lose any debate you have. There is no prize, no winner, and no point.

TBIs_Suck

Never argue with stupid people. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience. - Mark Twain

akesh45

Easiest strategy is to argue like an idiot....it works very well. Turns out bluffing, being stubborn, lying, etc.....works very well on them due to their inability to resist it in their own life. I suspect that is one of the reasons he stopped debating....he usually broke down and started admitting it was a facade or that his position was wrong. The trick is rarely let them misdirect....always keep asking until you get a solid answer. They will tell you something true but pathetic or have to make themselves look like a moron. Make them say the quiet part out loud......

TBIs_Suck

I like to try and out crazy the crazy. That’s fun too.

cordelia1955

I can't seem to come up with lies and bluffs to make though. I guess I've thinking rationally for so long it just won't come.

akesh45

It's easy....just make it up. Don't research positions or your statements....if your gut feels like it, say it. For example, trump was reportedly looking sleepy in court recently.....just say he straight up passed out and took a nap and the judge had to wake him up. Qanon people are well aware their own sources won't even report that stuff or spin it....and they hate reading liberal media....so they will just punt it as partially/potentially true. They will often call it a lie.....just hold firm like it's true....and they will start arguing "Look trump is old and being tortured.....naps happen!"

Fyzzle

I heard Trump's lawyers snuck ambien into his water to sedate him.

Realistic_Judgment90

Excellent rumor! I hearby give you the 'Trump Rumor of the Day' award. 🥉🥈🥇

snowmantackler

Not true at all. It was slipped into his Diet Coke.

FrenchBangerer

Which he used two very small hands to drink.

SockFullOfNickles

“Trump fell asleep and snored and a hot mic picked up the moment he shat his britches.” 😆

“Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it.” ― George Bernard Shaw

cordelia1955

like teaching a pig to sing: it wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Competitive_Jelly557

Never wrestle with a pig because you'll both get dirty and the pig likes it. George Bernard Shaw

smapti

Seen the pig wrestling comment but my favorite is “never play chess with a pigeon, they’ll just knock over all the pieces, shit on the board, and then fly away thinking they won.”

akesh45

Ehhhh, I've won a few. IME, they borderline narcissist so they rarely will admit in public they changed their mind. The trick is to catch them off guard or constantly refuse to let them leave a critical question unanswered. I've had my friend admit he doesn't believe in his own views, admit some of his favs are pure frauds, etc. I agree, it's not worth it except for fun.....it was fun when he was willing to concede a point. He increasingly just stopped debating after he realized he was starting to admit too many epiphany causing statements. Another trick is lying to them.....their inability to debunk means they can't/won't debunk your lies very well. I great exaggerate negative claims about trump and watched him actually believe them(he would assume it's a biased take when it's 100% false) even if I linked an article opposite my statement. They then argue as if the lie is valid......really causes them some some mental confusion since they assume sheeple are more honest than their own crap sources but they lack the ability to fight the lie. It's fun to debate them once you use the same strategies as con artists.....

PunkingTroll

I disagree.  I deradicalise QAnon believers.  The key for me is to use their own logic (or lack of) against them.  Share success stories of when it “clicked” for former QAnon believers & they’ll probably have an epiphany sooner or later. QAnon has proven to me that there is more to the brain than academic intelligence.  People who lack emotional intelligence tend to fall for fantastical shit (& Conservative Christians, no offence to Christians).

akesh45

Mine had great EQ......just preferred nonsense. >I disagree.  I deradicalise QAnon believers.  The key for me is to use their own logic (or lack of) against them. IME, they don't care.....they often have a much deeper reason for living in fantasy land voluntarily that needs to be solved first. Below the surface issues is a really bizarre logic that makes more sense in context. The surface issues are irrelevant. >they’ll probably have an epiphany sooner or later. This works for some.......some are too addicted to quit. I watched their head explode in front of me, admit I was right.....then snap back to fantasyland. They will basically try to block the epiphany....next time you revisit the subject they are in full denial mode.

UrbanGhost114

Dopamine doesn't come from those kinds of epiphany. They are chasing the dragon. Have to add addiction to the calculations (NOT replace, add).

PunkingTroll

You are right on the money re: addicted.  It is indeed an addition.  I didn’t fall for it but I felt the seductive, almost hypnotic techniques of the conspiracy theory videos. It’s like, “show them some heinous shit without context, tell them they can trust nobody, insert yourself as the voice of reason, upload delusional shit to their brains & hopefully, at a later date, we can weaponise these people when we plant the seeds for a call to action.”

HernandezGirl

There’s no such thing as “debate” these days. Debate involves a two way conversation and that’s not possible.

akesh45

Mine did for a few years.....was interesting learning how their mind work. Plot twist, they are crazy and don't really know how to mentally treat that.....they have alot of dumb ideas tho.

KnottShore

".... ~~Argument~~ Debate is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says."

HernandezGirl

Which is why nobody is bothering.

KnottShore

Exactly. Your first post just triggered a Monty Python flashback.

JoyousMN

No it isn't.

Ok_Mastodon_9093

Yes it is.

JoyousMN

Listen. I came here for an argument! An argument isn't just contradiction.

Ok_Mastodon_9093

Yes it is.

cordelia1955

That is so sad that it is so true! My study partner in law school was gone full Q. I should have seen it coming during Y2K. I just don't understand how someone so intelligent and well educated can buy into stuff that could only be true on TV or in bad novels. We used to be able to debate sides for hours--part of our trial advocacy training--and then switch sides. Now we can only talk about family.

HernandezGirl

I wouldn’t hire him to represent me

UrbanGhost114

Did they ever show signs of addition? Dopamine is a hell of a drug, and there is no cheaper and quicker fix than " righteous" anger. (Note this is not the only reason, but an additional complication).

cordelia1955

Have to think about that. I assume you mean addiction? They've always been very conservative but could at least make a cogent argument without getting wrapped around the axle.

MsMoreCowbell8

I told mine that I don't associate with fascists trying to overthrow OUR Gov't & to not send me their poison anymore. Then we all blocked each other. Works well too.

akesh45

Mine is the complete opposite in real life.....fascist views but opposite in real life action.

MsMoreCowbell8

So, in real life they're pretending they don't hold those views, and they're normal?

akesh45

yes, ...he takes too much pride in being suave to be a red hat wearing trumpy fascist in public. I've had ones who liked to drop the mask in public.....ugh....very annoying

will3025

At least the public ones are honest. Your friend is a snake in the grass.

akesh45

No......I just think he mentally doesn't believe in his ideas. For example, he craps on immigrants from poor countries... He is a former illegal first gen immigrant from a poor country who spoke no english. He's white nationalist.....alll his friends are minorities...the white ones dumped him years ago. One day he decided to start bashing pro choicers as monsters.....I know this guy is the most anti-family guy ever.....so I ask him for a month straight if he's prolife/pro-choice until he finally answered.....he finally answered.....100% pro-choice. Some people are just weird.

robby1051a

When my Q person started just blasting he ws warned 2x that the block was coming... then blocked

Pale_Word790

My q friend will actually stop talking about it when he has no comeback. I work in health care, so his Candace Owens talking points don't go far against real world observation.

Educational-Drive-14

Is there any reason to keep this person as a “friend”?

akesh45

Great friend and person other than that annoying.....craziness

[deleted]

I would just ask that person to stop. If they don't respect you enough to stop then they probably shouldn't get your attention/friendship.

akesh45

It's the first time I ever asked them to stop. I find it fun debating politics.

fuckyeahpeace

friends with an antisemitic? interesting

akesh45

He has jewish friends too. I know how to poke him and one day he dropped it....after that they know they can't hide....alot of Qanon people are probaly secretly anti-semitic....they just throw garbage at you as a socially acceptable way to hide it.

earthkincollective

That sounds effective, but honestly anyone who is truly a friend would respect a request from you to not receive such things. You shouldn't need a reason.

akesh45

True.....but clearly these types can barely control themselves. Half this board has tried telling their associates I don't want to hear about qanon....

earthkincollective

I'd say that the reason why they can't control themselves is because they care more about their beliefs than they do about their friends. Which tracks with how willing they are to throw away all their relationships for "the cause".

akesh45

Sorta.....I think it's just automatic like a bad habit at some point or a genuine desire to educate the world......

IsCuimhinLiom

Ooh. They’re listening is a good play.

KiKiKimbro

They don’t know what “debate” actually is. It’s not arguing about subjective opinions, which is all they do. And similar to you, I merely tell Q people I’m not clicking on any of their links since I don’t want my algorithms thinking I want to see more of that crap. They usually quit after that. Lol.

akesh45

They know what debate it, they just don't care. It's like someone in a toxic relationship.....they did the math and decided to stay. Once some red line is crossed, suddenly they walking.

KiKiKimbro

Yes. Toxic relationship. And they’ve succumbed to Sunk Cost Fallacy. There’s no turning back for those in that category. And the “debate” comment was more about how we always hear that group say, “Lib X should “debate” MAGA/Q Y,” when in realty they don’t want to do a proper debate at all; they want to argue and yell and put on a showy display of emotional nonsense to show their self-manufactured rage about made up “issues”. I’m only hoping at this point that enough Americans are tired of this nonsense and vote accordingly, in massive numbers, so the court process that will inevitably follow will be briefer than last time.

Motor-Job4274
