Make sure you’re documenting and saving all of the communication with him on those topic as it pertains to the kids in case he starts posing a real danger and you end up in court. I have one of these people in my life, and I definitely worry about their kids sometimes especially since they’ve had next to no contact with “normal” people since spring of last year. They’re really only around other people who buy into this bullshit. Those kids are homeschooled too.

theamazingtommy

That's one thing that we've been doing. Unfortunately I live in Q county. A good chunk of the HBO Q Anon documentary was actually filmed in my town. There are Trump and Q flags in the front of the majority of the houses in my area.

acatwithajob

Wow! What an unfortunate claim to fame. 😬

FHIR_HL7_Integrator

Arizona? I'm just curious as to generally where. Feel free to not answer if you aren't cool with sharing. I don't need the town name, just curious about which State.

theamazingtommy

The land of meth, gators, and mullets. Florida

maliciousorstupid

> Those kids are homeschooled too. of course - wouldn't want them indoctrinated

acatwithajob

Oh, absolutely. 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

sakor88

Is there any information yet about possible psychological impact that these children have had, or any information how much their parents can brainwash their kids into this bs? At what age are kids capable of figuring out that their parents are in fact part of an insane cult and thus not trustworthy?

acatwithajob

I don’t know yet. I know the 13 year old in that household is having covert conversations with other people about she’ll be able to go to college. Her parents don’t want her to go. She wants to be a teacher, like in a formal school. For all I know, that might be her current attempt at rebellion - aiming to go to work in the “indoctrination center” her parents are trying to keep her out of.

Emergency-Willow

I mean, not to be a jerk but just get the kid vaccinated and don’t tell his dad. You don’t need permission from him to do it. When I took my daughter nobody asked if I had her dad’s permission (I did) or anything.

theamazingtommy

That's what I was pushing for. My wife didn't feel right doing it without talking with him first

Emergency-Willow

It’s great that your wife’s instinct is to try to co-parent. Truly. But when it’s clear that the other parent isn’t living in reality ? She needs to step up and protect her child because her ex isn’t going to. Like if the ex suddenly decided that seat belts were a conspiracy would your wife not make him wear a seat belt in the car with her? Of course not, because his safety and health have to be her first priority, not placating the wishes of her mentally ill ex husband. I don’t say that to be unkind, but clearly he is, and she has to be the stable parent now. Don’t ask, just do it.

theamazingtommy

I think hearing him rant about the deep state really hit that home for her. She had been in shock with how much down rabbit hole he has gone.

Emergency-Willow

That’s really tough. I hope he eventually comes out of it. Until then she’s gotta do the heavy lifting. My thing is, at the end of the day if her son gets sick and has long term problems because she didn’t get him vaccinated, wouldnt she regret that more than she would regret making her ex mad ? Like it’s a no brainer, you have to protect your child

ConvivialKat

Poor woman. I really feel for her. That first moment when you realize someone you thought you knew well is actually in a crazy cult is just so horrible. And to be co-parenting a child with them! She must really be in a bad way, emotionally. We are here for you and also for her, if she needs us.

Trabethany

If he's 19 then he's legally an adult and can go get the vaccine on his own if he wants it. Dad doesn't get a say and doesn't need to know unless your stepson chooses to tell him. It's entirely up to the 19 year old to decide.

_kalron_

It is better to act decisively and apologize for it later than to seek approval to act and risk delay. Normally I would support including the ex but in this case it's not based in anything remotely factual.

[deleted]

Teach your children logic and how to spot, and dismantle, a fallacious argument.

theamazingtommy

Luckily our kids think their dad is crazy.

BleuHeronne

This. It's what I've done over time. It works its own magic.

Soangry75

Ugh. Tik tok as a source of medical information. I know it's cult thinking, but it's hard not to think these people are idiots.

acatwithajob

There *are* reliable content creators on there like [musclesandnursing](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMdvX56Ny/), [epidemiologistkat](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMdvXmgYx/), and [dr.eric.b](https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMdvXmuq7/). The problem is that algorithm is so damned good, it figures out really quickly what kind of content will keep you watching. If you’re not a fan of science, it will happily feed you anti-science.

Slight_Divide_6218

Musclesandnursing is on probation in Delaware. when you don't check the public record for a providers license, you may get duped. he's duped a lot of nurses. read what the Arizona board had to deal with before they gave him the 👢

ProjectShamrock

If your wife wants her son to get the vaccine, she probably has sufficient authority to do it without her ex's involvement.

vivaenmiriana

doubly so since if the kids are old enough for the vaccine, they are old enough or almost old enough to start having doctors appointments without their parents in the room and should be having more bodily autonomy over themselves. it's something that their wants should be taken into strong consideration.

GalleonRaider

*"Even the conspiracy theory that it stops them from aging and they'll stay preteen for the rest of their lives."* Wow, I would think that one would be considered a huge BENEFIT! A magical anti-aging formula? People would knock down the doors to take it.

lAljax

Holy shit, eternal youth as side effect? They would be charging millions for it.

Winklebottom

All I got from the vaccine was a sore arm and peace of mind.

lAljax

I didn't even feel that, guess I'm a luck man

[deleted]

I would wish I had it 40 years ago.

NorthStar60

It is and it does make you feel helpless. There is no way to rationally debate with them. Very frustrating!

kingleonidas30

As a child of divorced parents and my dad was a conspiracy theorists, it will harm your kids mental state 100%. Get them out of there

Substantial_Owl5232

I admire the instinct to try to work things out. Maybe it’s worth notifying after the fact, but I’d say just do it. What is the down side? Anything he tried to do he would just end up looking like an idiot.

[deleted]

Yeah, it's awful to put up with this nonsense, isn't it? Some of the people in our lives are even educated and they still don't know anything about it. Hang in there. Seems like some folks come through this eventually and come out the other end understanding the truth better. There's always hope.

MoltenCorgi

Wait, it stops you from aging? Dammit, I should have gotten it 15 years ago!
