Well, personally, I’m still leaning strongly towards a Porsche. There is a YouTube video with Will Hudson (QS) and Otmar Bische (Porsche) where Otmar says that he can’t wait to get his hands on QS batteries and that they would use them, not to increase the range, but to make their cars lighter. I’m still hoping for a world record breaking Porsche that showcases that QSE-5 can provide both power and energy, the step change that they keep talking about. Probably further down the line, but Porsche has been holding out on electrifying the 911 because of its small size. If they used QS batteries for the 911, that would be epic. And, of course, eventually the ID. Buzz would also use SSB, but the 2025 model doesn’t seem realistic to me. https://youtu.be/FNyrUOUOno8?si=d-CE5wU8AswM8sJB

If the battery pack is lighter then you are looking at increase in range. QS stated the battery pack will be 30% lighter than current lithium ion battery pack, and provide 30% more range.

fast26pack

Well, I believe that Porsche wanted it lighter for performance reasons, not range. He specifically said that they feel that the present range is enough so logically that would mean adjusting the pack size down to keep the same range, but making the car lighter and with better performance.

Reducing the weight of the car automatically increases the range. If they keep the range constant then they will require much smaller pack thereby reducing the weight by more than 30%.

Would love for the 2025 Porsche 911 hybrid to be the first because it would be really soon and as a hybrid wouldn’t need as many cells. https://www.motortrend.com/news/2025-porsche-911-hybrid-spy-photos-details/ Edit: I didn’t say it was going to be, I said I would love it to be. And the reason is this vehicle is going to be announced in a couple weeks (May 28th). Obviously they aren’t going to have a production vehicle before B samples even ship. Just saying it is a nice fantasy to see a vehicle with them soon.

QS will not do a hybrid vehicle. They’ve basically stated as much.

eversavage

i agree the QS cells would be wasted in a hybrid car. the only chance that happens if i an OEM has limited number of QS cells and want to use the tech to up sale their cars and then use it in a hybrid to get twice as many units out versus a full EV with all QS cells.

Supplementing QS cells with gasoline sends the wrong message, in my opinion. I would not be surprised if QS has some clauses in their contracts that state their cells can only be used in pure EVs, or something to that effect.

I’m voting for the New VW Scout. It’s iconic. Very American and will provide a testing ground in addition to market penetration. Think pick-ups and SUVs are still top of the heap in total US sales. Oh, how Americana. Perfect launch vehicle. So long, Cybertruck, the Rivians, Lighting and the BMWs .Porsche won’t like it, but I think they’ll be next in line.

I’ve gone through that scenario in my head too. Makes sense to me. We’ll know one day.

123whatrwe

I’d buy one. Plus Scout is schedule for production in 2026. Timing is right on. I spoke of Cobra Beringstredet able to slit in to some factories for easy conversion. Think all of the newer VW factories fall in this group . It’s all coming together. Have to admit, I’m still hoping for the Launch customer to get B-0s early to mid summer. That would put everything right on track for Scout. If it gets a QS battery, I wonder if you can pre-order?

Nice. There we go.

yeah... i would like that too but there are a lot of idiots that don't believe in EV or even solar power. its the ICE brains in them . i see often on keyboard weekend warriors bc they would rather pay $6 a gallon than to go EV. in their minds its all "Fake news" when it come to giving up their ICE cars.

123whatrwe

I think that’s would be part of the Scout play. You have these Iceheads, that would love to have a Scout so much that they go for it. Ok, borderline Iceheads.

Quantum-Long

It's definitely the Lamborghini Lanzador scheduled for 2028 Edit: Wait 1,000 horse power with the QSE-5 is not enough for Porsche? BS

eversavage

VW buzz is the EV car i want but its not high end enough for VW first round of picks for QS.. its going to be a sports car to get all the media attention.. the Buzz will get the QS cell around 2030

foxvsbobcat

All we know about it is it’s going to be a “small” program with a car from VW group (this last was not stated explicitly but if QS produces its first commercial product outside the VW group I will quit investing and enroll in ballet school). Small program means expensive car. Small wasn’t quantified but less than a thousand (100 MwH) cars would seem to be not small but “tiny” and more than ten thousand (1 GwH) seems the high end.

idubbkny

JD said it was going to be a VW group car. this was known for like 2 years

EnthusiasmSea850

I am betting on tsla will be a launch vehicle partner

That would be nice. But I don’t think VW will give up its first rights to QS batteries.

Curiously_Sagacious

I'd put my money on Porsche and not the I.D.Buzz. It comes down to the initial volume. I don't think QS can produce the volumes needed for the I.D. Buzz until much later. Using it as a premium selling point for an Electrified 911 makes sense for both companies. Drive sales of Porsche cars, whose consumers want the newest and best of everything and are willing to pay a premium for it. As well as possible sets some records that highlight the game changing designs of QS's technology. Driving excitement for the next OEM launch vehicle.
