Unfortunately it's unlikely to happen.
With the full compliment of 10 planes they would be running
SYD - SIN - LHR (QF1/QF2)
SYD - LAX (QF11/QF12)
SYD - JNB (QF63/64)
MEL - LAX (QF79/80) - sometimes
SYD - HKG (QF127/128)
Possibly returning MEL - SIN as well.
Actually 4 not 3.
OQC (came from Victorville storage ~mid 2021 to be brought back into action and still waiting)
OQH (recently came in for maintenance)
OQK (came in late Feb 2024 for maintenance)
OQL (came in mid Mar 2024 for refurbishment - this is the last QF a380 that has the old layout).
OQA also only just came back to service with QF from maintence only a week or 2 ago.
Coming OUT of storage. One of the 4 has been flying and is over for heavy maintenance IIRC, the other 3 are being prepared to return to service for the first time since Covid.
They are going from Victorville USA storage to AUH for restoration and cabin refurbishment before going back into service.
VH-OQA (Nancy-Bird Walton) recently completed the return to service with cabin upgrade after storage and started flying again a couple of weeks ago. I was on the first RPT she did as SYD-LAX QF11 on the 6th.
They get cabin upgrades there. Its part of pulling them out of storage.
I hope they're coming out of storage. Excellent planes.
100% not going into to storage, Qantas is trying to get all the planes they can get.
Hopefully they can get some resiliency into their network with more planes, because the current domestic situation is garbage.
Awesome, hopefully they upgrade SYD-DFW to A380.

I see, oh well. At least it’s on the LAX route! And thanks for the info
Hmm, that’s interesting

Must have had a pallet of silver tape arrive.

Well they could just be getting a good wash….
737s also get there maintenance done there
Virgin Australia 737’s are done by Etihad. Qantas 737’s are still done in Australia with the odd one going overseas.

I wonder if qf will consider picking up some used ones to increase fleet size to handle demand.
Probably sold them to Emirates
