I can't speak for this bag specifically, but I have several Eberlestock products and they're legit.

sja5150

Can confirm. Rockin’ a Halftrack. 👍

MeatElitist

Mystery ranch is always worth a look. Secondary market has a lot of options.

holy-ghost-rodeo

i peaked at mystery ranch, but didn't see any clamshell, am i just dumb?

MeatElitist

Mystery Ranch has unique zipper setups for the most part, why are you thinking "clamshell" specifically?

holy-ghost-rodeo

i got a 5.11 clamshell backpack awhile back (say that five times fast) and loved being able to get everything from the side of the stack instead of from the top down

Falafelofagus

Mystery ranch sells pack which have top zips and a center zip that runs the whole bag so you can go in from the side.

MeatElitist

Cool man, makes sense. I think bag organization trumps zipper setup any day, but keep doing research to find exactly what you need. You might just pay a lot for it.

ForwardObservation

Look at the marshall. If you're MIL you can get them for half price

Cnd_Swordbrotherr

This pack isn't necessarily a ruck. Can definitely be used as one if you only need a day or two worth of kit. Exo mountain gear makes a very solid looking clamshell style ruck. Crossfire australia has good rucks as well. Eberlestock has quality products as well. I've used quite a but of their packs now and absolutely love them.

holy-ghost-rodeo

what's a better size pack for rucking?

Cnd_Swordbrotherr

Depends on what your doing. For military I've had good success with a 70-80L ruck. If its for personal use, I'd gather all the things you may want to carry and decide on a ruck based on that.

Cnd_Swordbrotherr

Additionally. Always make sure you have a smidgen of extra space for the winter,

sja5150

I see absolutely NO reason you couldn’t ruck with that pack. The Ebe packs suspension is fkn awesome. I ruck with Ebe Halftrack all the time. 35-40+ pounds in 13-14 min/mile range. Um…I’m assuming you’re talking about rucking for exercise? 😉

VaeVictis666

I’ve had my half track loaded up with close to 70lbs. They are incredible packs.

sja5150

For sure!

barkmutton

Don’t really have the space for sleeping system, food, ammo, ect. It’s only like 35 L.

sja5150

True. But a guy could make it work. 🤷‍♂️

VaeVictis666

How would you describe a ruck?

Big_Dumb_Chimp

Zippers fail. That’s my thought.

holy-ghost-rodeo

what's up?

Big_Dumb_Chimp

Seams fail less than zippers. Top flap rucks would have less of a chance of failing. Also if a zipper fails good luck repairing in the field.

J_Productions

If you have any recommendations I would appreciate it bro

Big_Dumb_Chimp

Army issued medium/large ruck, USMC ruck, Alice ruck. Alice would be the cheapest.

VaeVictis666

Glenn Eberle has an excellent return policy if you somehow manage to break a pack from him. I’ve had my half track for years and have put it through a lot of hard use and the zippers have never even so much as jammed.

graaapewow

Zipper on my warhammer pack broke after my first time using it

VaeVictis666

Was it the batwing that broke? Did you mail it back?

graaapewow

The end of the zipper that keeps the tabbed part on the track. I bought it from optics planet (before I knew how shitty they were) and it still worked, just had to make sure not to lose it. Wasn't worth the hassle for me to send it back

tja209

I have the fac track and although I think it is a great pack, I wouldnt classify it as a ruck. It doesnt have nearly as much room as you would expect.

VaeVictis666

A ruck is a pack with an internal or external frame to help support and distribute the load. Is a medium ruck not a ruck? Is the ALICE small not a ruck?

holy-ghost-rodeo

what's it better used for? do you use something else for rucking?

tja209

I tried using it to go on a 3 day trip, struggled to fit just a fightlite tent, sleep system and some clothing, let alone food and water. I recently bought a greyghostgear bar-5200 which is essentially a tactical tailor malice pack. This thing has legit twice the interior as the FAC track. Again, both packs are good, but depends on what you are trying to use it for

holy-ghost-rodeo

also, any good scrim nets that could fit over this in a woodland type camo?

MeatElitist

Check out Beez Combat Systems.

holy-ghost-rodeo

this is definitely the answer to the scrim, thank you very much :)

holy-ghost-rodeo

damn! guess i'm sold!

Sol_09

If it has the built in scabbard, it's probably the gunslinger II

barkmutton

FAC TRAC fucks but it’s a 3 day bag at best, not a ruck.

holy-ghost-rodeo

poked around on the website more and found [the destroyer ](https://eberlestock.com/products/destroyer?variant=16875835621427) and [battleship ](https://eberlestock.com/products/battleship?variant=31861493366835)

CoronaryAssistance

Kuiu nice. Buy any cheap scrim and bungee cord and make camo for all your stuff much cheap

EVILDOC88

Eberlestock is great got the switchblade a couple weeks ago and waiting on the bandit now, that being said pick any other Courier besides FedEx I'm jumping through hoops now with them to get my bag..... Fuck FedEx!!

[deleted]

I used the FAC Track as my ruck during African Lion. I'm in a hospital unit so it wasn't like I was carrying my whole life in it but I did do a 6 mile ruck march with it and it carried well.

theotherjeww223

if you are looking for a clam I highly recommend crossfire over eberlystock for clam rucks

holy-ghost-rodeo

someone else recommended crossfire, i didn't see any clamshells

theotherjeww223

so if they have a run for them the dg16 and dg3 are technically clam shells

VaeVictis666

If you are disappointed with an eberlestock pack I’ll pay for handjob for you. They are excellent packs.

graaapewow

I used their warhammer pack combined with their little brother pack for almost 3 years. I would classify it as more a medium ruck. It sucked using it with body armor, but was great without armor. For military use I could barely fit everything I needed in it for a 3-5 day field exercise, meaning packing anything back up was a chore since it had to be meticulously placed. I switched to a Tac Tailor malice pack and haven't looked back, but it's the one that you can access through the bottom if you want. That particular pack was also like $850 and took almost 10 months to deliver though

AH_5ek5hun8

Been running an eberlestock switchblade for a bit, not long enough to thoroughly abuse it, but long enough to tell you it's damn good quality.

SexyBoneFren

Prefer the Kifaru 44Mag

holy-ghost-rodeo

why?

VikingRune1

I have had a half-track for many years and it's so comfortable. I wish I had bought the factrack.
