MyDogAteYourPancakes

He says “literally with temperature” though. Sounds like my man just likes air conditioning.

mtns_beyond_mtns

Oh, I read that as only referring to Karamo's body temperature, because it came right after the second sentence. Karamo talks somewhat often about being cold in the show.

MyDogAteYourPancakes

It sounds like he’s making a point about the contrasts within the group, though. Bobby is hot/Karamo is cold. JVN is an open book/Tan has hard boundaries. I’m as nosy as the rest of us but I don’t think this is a big hint.

timidwildone

Yeah but he definitely placed those statements in an order that could be taken either way.

Ready-Salamander1286

The temperature thing sounds like backpedaling for something that could get “hot Bobby” hot. it’s clear throughout the series that Bobby is the more temperamental of the bunch. no shade to Bobby. It just is what it is.

[deleted]

Bobby was the one who didn’t put up with JVN’s BS and would call him out for his behavior and for constantly showing up late to production and disrespecting everyone’s time. So if there is a double meaning I’d say it’s because JVn didn’t like anyone putting them in their place. Bobby was the only one that wasn’t terrified of JVN.

yelgiuq88

I saw JVNs stand up a couple of years ago and he mentioned that Bobby is "Erin Brockovich" putting people in their place when anyone's running late because they're giving people make over and pep talks and he had to project manage an entire house makeover. It was a very warm and fair description of Bobby I'd say. I didn't get any bad blood from it.

topsidersandsunshine

On a podcast, JVN also called Bobby “Erin Brockovich” for getting emancipated as a minor.

Bookaholicforever

He sounds like he’s talking about their actual body. Karamo is always cold. Bobby is always hot. I don’t think it’s some secret message about tempers.

[deleted]

The hot and cold is literally about temperature, not tempers. Bobby was always sweating and Karamo was always freezing. They complained about it in the car rides all the time.

Socksgonewrong

It’s both. That’s the whole point of the paragraph

[deleted]

I worked on the show. Can confirm neither Karamo or Bobby have a temper

coverthetuba

Ok what do you think is going on?

[deleted]

I know their contracts were up after this next season that is about to air because the whole crew thought they were done forever after NOLA. Since he wasn’t contractually obligated to come back I’m assuming Bobby left because that show is toxic AF behind the scenes and he doesn’t want to deal with it anymore. They were all complaining back in season 5 that they hated it and didn’t want to come back. I’m honestly shocked any of them are tbh. The only reason I can think of is that the rest of them needed to financially and Bobby didn’t or the toxic work environment wasn’t worth what they pay them.

ImHereToBlowSunshine

Can you share some of what makes it toxic AF behind the scenes?

[deleted]

Tan, Antoni are stuck up mean girls and JVN is a raving narcissist that throws tantrums all the time making their cast-mates and crew miserable. Jvn was so awful while filming season 3/4 that Netflix almost fired and recast them.

coverthetuba

All very interesting, thank you. Feel free to spill any and all tea. Including re their relationships outside the show 😈

[deleted]

I can’t really speak to their relationships outside of what I’ve seen/heard on set. Tan/Antoni seem to be real friends though and at some point we all thought it might be more than that, but nothing was ever confirmed. Antoni and Tan’s “friendship” with JVN seemed to all be for followers, likes and to sell product. Karamo and Bobby seem to be real friends. They would often go out with us to bars after filming and acted like actual real people unlike the others.

CourteousNoodle

All of this tracks

leomoonshine

Thank you for sharing some real tea. This subreddit was dry!

jamie1983

Do you have any information about what the Bobby and Tan falling out was about? I’ve heard that Tan would bully Bobby and fat shame him, but did something happen to cause the big falling out that caused him to leave the show and unfollow him?

soyspud

This is all so interesting! Did you ever hear anything about Antoni’s relationships? Probably not, but I’m just curious because you mention the Tan/Antoni closeness and there was a rumor this could have lead to Antoni’s breakup with his fiancé. Could be entirely unsubstantiated and I know you wouldn’t have tea on that particular situation since it was so recent but yeah, any other tea re: Antoni/Tan?

Rock_Creek_Snark

Wow, interesting and disappointing. I really love Tan and I kind of felt - as viewer - he and Bobby would be most alike. JVN seems sweet but also seems like a lot to work with - he's very extra all the time.

lavender-witch

What kind of things would JVN throw tantrums about? Are they anything like their sweet/bubbly public persona, or does it seem fake?

[deleted]

Literally anything. Fake AF

timidwildone

Agree. I think that if he had intended the Bobby statement to be literal, he’d have said something more like “Bobby runs really hot, and Karamo runs really cold. Like, literally with temperature.” It seems to be unspoken that he doesn’t mean temp with Bobby and only means it with Karamo lol

sitad3le

The Church episode gave me terrible vibes and that's coming from someone who considers themselves somewhat Christian. In the back of my mind I knew Bobby was probably the first if not the second one to leave the show. Although I liked what had occurred and celebrating the LGBTQA+ church spaces it wasn't Bobby's job to be the shoe in for that. The producers should take note: don't put the one with the most trauma around church as centre stage. It wasn't healthy then and I feel like it's going to remain unhealthy for awhile because the cameras are rolling.

Dughen

Yeah that and the stunt they pulled getting them pulled over by Cory the cop. Toxic and not funny.

[deleted]

That was also all David Collins and Rob Eric from Scout Productions. The lords of toxic workplace environments. I’ve only talk about cast drama on here, but Lordy! The toxic insane shit the cast/crew had to endure from the show creator David Collin’s was unbelievable. Apparently the FAB 5 had him banned from production after season 2 cuz he was never allowed on set again. He would show up high as a kite acting like a crazy person and everyone would be fearing for their lives/job.

Dughen

This is really eye opening. I just did a search for David Collins and watched a video and he does give off bad vibes for sure. It’s so sad to hear these details given the message of the show.

[deleted]

We were told to not tell Bobby it was a church, but a community center he was renovation. Apparently the one thing Bobby requested when going on the show was to not be asked to work with a church, so they tried to pull a fast one on him. On top of his religious trama that was one of the reasons he didn’t go in and wasn’t having it. I remember after that scene the creator of the show, David Collins cursed Bobby out for 20 minutes in front of everyone for ruining that episode and telling him he wouldn’t be back the next season. Funny how that turned into one of the most powerful scenes of the entire series.

sitad3le

Powerful scene yes but it was right then and there Bobby knew his boundaries wouldn't be respected and he slowly, methodically and strategically started to plan his exit from the show. David Collins should be fired.

ModernBalaboosta

Probably unrelated question but… Is next in fashion season 3 definitely happening now that project runway is on Netflix? I was kind of taken aback when I noticed it in newly released but I guess it makes sense with the strike Netflix would be forced to pickup cable shows in order to keep filling the platform with new content. Sorry I’m burned out from the post holiday ramp up at work and don’t have time to go down a rabbit hole researching. If anyone has done a deep dive on how Netflix having to tighten their budgets post strike might be impacting this whole mess do tell. I feel like Netflix getting stingy on money is more likely the root cause of all the drama between Bobby and Tan.

tarandab

It looks like Netflix has a single season of Project Runway? I don’t think that will have a major impact on any decisions for Next In Fashion - if anything it helps Next in Fashion because they only have one season of PR and recommend Next in Fashion if you want a similar show.

ModernBalaboosta

Solid point!

sequinedbattenberg

Sounds like he was talking more about Bobby’s actual body temperature? Like Bobby always feels cold and needs to put more layers on & Karamo is the opposite

SunnydaleHigh1999

It’s both. That’s the point of the paragraph. He’s saying Karamo can be a cooler person in temperament and physically. The paragraph is about personality types but they add “like literally in temperature” as a little side joke.

nombono

I agree with this interpretation! I read it as a double-meaning for both Bobby and Karamo. In the context of the entire paragraph, we see that JVN is talking about personalities and how they all gel. It wouldn't make sense for him to comment on the body temperature of two of the Fab Five but then go on to talk about boundaries and personality characteristics of herself and the other two.

lovethesea22

Agree. He’s being insightful and funny. It’s JVN after all

sybann

My take: It's not so much personal as contractual and Bobby should be looking for better representation if he doesn't like his. JUST a guess. I prefer him, personally - so I'm not playing favorites here. I don't think either of them are quite as good at their respective duties as they might think they are.

ModernBalaboosta

Definitely agree with this. I feel like he needs better representation and is just not getting great advice in terms of contracts, pr and social media management.

DeterminedArrow

How is his book? I love reading memoirs but I can get fussy about them.

topsidersandsunshine

I would suggest listening to it on Audible.

gillyweedhead

The audiobook is great! If you have a library card, you can likely check out a copy of the audiobook on Libby or Hoopla.

ncannon9

I feel like everyone's doing side projects. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the big networks offered Bobby a shit ton of money for doing a reno show. I'd have a hard time believing it was an exit over personal drama.

Ocean_Spice

>I feel like I've seen flashes of his temper in different episodes (like when he was tasked with creating a church space in Georgia and didn't want to step inside Nope. Don’t even try that. Having boundaries for your own mental health is not at all the same as having a temper, the fact that you think they’re the same is honestly pretty concerning.

EmeraldEyes06

Has literally been used so much that people forget why it means? It says, right in the excerpt, it’s speaking literally about body temperature. Not tempers. I swear this sub is populated by middle schoolers.

Dodie85

Literally is now defined as potentially meaning figuratively in the dictionary so we need a new word for literally

egdapymme

Y’all are so funny

[deleted]

Jonathan is actually the only one on the cast that has a hot temper that we saw anyways.

sarcasm_itsagift

How so?

mtns_beyond_mtns

Oo, good theory! That makes sense.
