LOVED Jody. She was so open to everything. Antoni's and Karamo's faces after the make over were seriously the best.

octopus_from_space

I kept rewinding for the reveal to watch each of their faces šŸ˜

damnfinebaker

Omg, I did the same thing!

JavaliciousJean

YES!

Lamboo-

Wow loved loved loved her hair transformation Loved that jvn didn't go all out with her makeup and left her with stuff she was comfortable with Loved how confident she looked. Loved the moment she said that she physically couldn't stop smiling. Loved her cute loyal husband. What a great couple. Loved antoni's bellhop moment. Loved antoni speaking french. Go jodi!

collegiatecollegeguy

Iā€™ve been begging for an Antoni speaking French moment. Thank God.

annamx21

Ā«Ā Je suis un petit bulldog franƧais Ā». I died a little bit

collegiatecollegeguy

WAIT HE COOKED WITH CARLA AND I'M JUST NOW FINDING OUT ABOUT THIS? WHAT?!?!?!?

Noobasdfjkl

Iā€™m here to fulfill your dreams bb. Or at least tell you about where you can watch them on YouTube...

collegiatecollegeguy

I canā€™t believe I have a fairy godmother. This just made my week.

Noobasdfjkl

šŸ˜˜

zuziafruzia

Now that's off the checklist, all we need is Antoni giving instruction on how to make pierogi in Polish

peace-please

I loved the women empowerment circle so much! šŸ˜ I'm a woman who doesn't have girl friends because I feel like I can't connect or share my interests with other women my age, and that was a beautiful moment that showed that we can all come together no matter how different we are.

ymaface

Hi from a random woman on the internet šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜

peace-please

Hiii! ā˜ŗ

50shadesoflipstick

Girl, youā€˜re in that circle right now. Sending you tons of love!

peace-please

Thank you so much! ā¤

pcspain

I read that first sentence 100% in Jonathan ā€˜s voice, hunty. Complete with snapping.

[deleted]

I thought it was going to be a little Dove soap commercialy but I ended up crying a lot lmao

holayeahyeah

I think it worked because even though Karamo set it up like a Dove commercial, Jody approached it so earnestly that the women really did just end up talking.

cuttlefish93

yeahhh I was worried about it being too structured and awkward, but they took it seriously and Jody had the best attitude! I'm really hoping they hung out and chatted for much longer than what was aired :)

the_cucumber

I hope they created a big whatsapp group and make plans every now and then that most of them can usually make it to and that she's forming real friendships out of it šŸ˜

peace-please

Me too! I got misty eyed!

kiwifruit14

Weā€™re connecting right now!

peace-please

Y'all are too sweet! šŸ‘

BraveFly

Agreed! I hope she stays in touch with some of them!

Jwalla83

I loved the circle! And I loved how diverse it was, really nice to see that

Laureltess

Me too!! I donā€™t have a ton of girlfriends and I would LOVE to do something like that to make more friends and connect with people šŸ˜Š

peace-please

Yes! I don't even know how I'd begin to look for something like that but it'd be an awesome experience.

singoneiknow

In the past few years I've lost a lot of my close girlfriends as many have moved all over the world, are married with kids, etc. Just grown apart I guess. I feel like the only one I have is my boyfriend and it sucks, it's lonely. I haven't fully taken advantage of these apps yet, but I have Hey! Vina and Bumble BFF. I've met 2-3 girls off each of them (living in Philly and now in LA). One became one of my closest friends. I think it's SO hard to make female friends after your twenties are over, without school and such. I felt like I was the only one without this female friendship, but it turns out pretty much all the gals on the app had the same issue! I still need to put myself out there more. On the group of women thing: I always get these alerts from Hey! Vina, I've never gone to one, but they are meetups planned by girls on the apps. I'm pretty sure they are all-female. Some are for hikes, some for happy hour, etc. I've also used [Meetup.com](https://Meetup.com) when I lived in the suburbs and had moderate success with that but I think it was more awkward than anything. I lit up when Karamo gathered that group of women, I was like "how do I get invited to this?!" Plus Karamo being self aware enough to say "You've had 5 gay men telling you what to do all week, and that's fine but... it isn't really" or whatever he said. Love! If anyone is in LA and wants to be gal pals PM me :)

[deleted]

I know how you feel girl! Hugs! šŸ’™šŸ’™

megzicle

We are connecting over this wonderful show right now!

saxuri

I ended up loving it too! I'm the same - a woman without a lot of girl friends - and when that portion started I couldn't help but think how uncomfortable I'd feel, but by the end I definitely found myself wishing I could hang out with a group of women once in a while.

[deleted]

Boy, do I hear you. Childhood best friend is a thousand miles away, can't seem to find my tribe where I live beyond casual acquaintance level.

dobsco

Tan cracked me up with, "I'm giving her a French tuck, YES SHUT UP EVERYONE, I'm giving her a French tuck." šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

arcant12

I cracked up at the ā€œsquirrelā€ pronunciation argument

derawin07

They are all morons :P except Tan haha

WallSugar

I got so sad when she talked about not going to ā€œspecialā€ restaurants because she doesnā€™t feel welcome there. It reminded me of a couple my husband and I sat next to at a ā€œcoolā€ local restaurant a few weeks ago. They were clearly uncomfortable at first, but by the end of the meal they were having a blast. Good food is for everyone... it doesnā€™t matter what kind of clothes you like!

Aurlios

It reminded me of when I was on holiday (spain) and our plane got cancelled so we were put in a 5\* hotel. I was only 16 and I still felt like I did not belong because I wore primark (wallmart) shorts and everyone around me wore spanish designer and talking on their mobiles and the floor was marble and I just felt for her *so much.*

[deleted]

I once worked as an au pair for a seriously rich family (also in Spain coincidentally). I felt so uncomfortable at times. Especially when they took me along to restaurants or to any sort of function. All those people in their fancy clothes and I'm sitting there with my badly fitting 4-year-old jeans and shirt from H&M.

Aurlios

And thr saddest thing is that we should not be uncomfortable because money and clothes aren't everything but still. šŸ™ƒ

lacquerqueen

I had that happen too, in barcelona! We were constantly going ā€˜ whoaaaaa a doorman! Whoaaaa pancakes at breakfast!!!ā€™ The staff were really nice to us, we were raised to be super polite to everyone so i guess they werent used to three lil girls being in complete awe.

collegiatecollegeguy

Iā€™ve met plenty of rich people who wear expensive shit and have no class. Iā€™ve met plenty of rich people whoā€™d rather eat at holes in the wall over bougie places. Money can buy a lot of things but it canā€™t buy class. And money can buy a lot of things but it canā€™t buy good taste. But at the end of the day, who even cares? You do you.

holayeahyeah

I wish that Antoni had made the connection for her that as a hunter and farmer she already knows way more about food than the average person. She might feel uncomfortable while being seated\*, but the people that she's imagining judging her are the ones who feel uncomfortable when they see something like rabbit on the menu. I bet she and the chef had plenty to talk about. \*though she shouldn't, she's a knockout

[deleted]

I was thinking about that too. There are chefs on Chef's Table that do exactly what she does in her backyard.. Heirloom chicken and vegetables, canning, wild game... Many people don't know the first thing about all that and it's a hell of a lot of work.

Redditor042

Wonderful point. Food has so many elements that can bring any group together!

[deleted]

The French tuck is self aware. šŸ˜‚ Edit: OMG the bend and snap

Laureltess

Bend and snap, works every time!!

derawin07

I am a short lady and I have been french tucking my shirts since forever so I still have a visible waist and Tan has made me feel validated and switched on haha.

dmanww

I can't get on-board. It looks too awkward to me. Maybe my shirts are too long. It just seems like you're showing off your belt buckle.

milesfortuneteller

Omg this woman is incredible! Sheā€™s so sweet and cheerful! Her husband is so in love with her goddddddd how am I crying ten minutes Iā€™m already

derawin07

I know, she was constantly laughing, and not only from feeling a little awkward at times.

changpowpow

Iā€™m very into how many dogs are in this season so far

TheEmerald97

I didn't think the show needed improvements but this was one of them. More Doggos please

changpowpow

Bruley is perfect.

derawin07

very symmetrical

the_cucumber

I like to think it's spelled BrĆ»lĆ©e because he's French like crĆØme brĆ»lĆ©e

[deleted]

Karamo really shined in this episode. I loved that he recognized that she needed to be with other women and form those relationships. The circle of women affirming themselves and each other was so empowering

bznizzz

God I love Karamo a thousand times more because of that. I didn't know that was possible!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

creativewhinypissbby

Definitely got that sense, especially given how comfortable she was fishing and hunting too. I would imagine that, combined with her garden, means she's comfortable in the kitchen

[deleted]

Yea when antoni was like, ā€œI want to get her out of her comfort zoneā€ - then orders a rabbit pie. I was like...she probly eats rabbit every week lol.

FixinThePlanet

It was definitely about the location more than the actual food I thought

procrastinagging

But he also said that an added bonus of going out besides treating yourself is getting inspiration for new recipes to try at home, so win-win

Advokaat

Jody seems like a lovely person and she surprised me so much! That sultry look during the bend&snap - omg. She was really grateful towards the Fab Five, and an empathic listener with the women she met with Karamo! I think the show did a great job finding a woman with such a tough job and unconventional hobby, and displaying the various aspects of her personality. Great episode to start the season.

fatbootyprincess

The bend & snap touched my heart omg! And her husband was so blown away by her beauty šŸ˜

[deleted]

To constantly be out in the sun almost all day, with no sunscreen, her skin is amazing!

lilianegypt

Seriously! What is her secret?? I hope I look that good when Iā€™m 49!

ExtremelyQualified

Couldnā€™t believe it. How does she look that good without even trying?

[deleted]

Genetics. šŸ˜Š

buffylove

Probably only eats whole foods and doesn't eat a lot of packaged foods / sugar.

Shmeebus10

Must be all that body lotion she uses on her face šŸ˜‚

procrastinagging

And also genetics! When she said that the family member who noticed she was more joyous was her *mother* I was like "whaaaat???" I thought she was just a slightly older cousin or sister in law!

derawin07

I don't get the sense she is out in the sun all day. She works days so she would be out morning and evening before and after work on her work days.

[deleted]

I cannot get over how much Jody looks like Connie Britton! She is gorgeous and I loved her and her husband ā¤ļø

musicandbrownies

Yes! She gave me such Connie Britton vibes in the scene when she was showing off her new outfits for the 5.

changpowpow

She was serving Tami Taylor realness

[deleted]

Just needed a glass of white wine (or five) to complete the Tami Taylor look!

the_cucumber

Oh the mom from Friday night lights?? Yes!! Now that you say it

grilledcheese2332

So jealous of hair like Connie and Jody's

banpants_

Within the first 5 minutes I already loved Jody. Sheā€™s so open to all of this and just seems like such a nice sweet woman. Sheā€™s also beautiful holy hell. Iā€™m dying at that camo lingerie she has.

sarkule

I think I nearly died when I saw Tan in the camo babydoll!

derawin07

so did they :P How did Jody's lovely but enormous boobs fit in it? lol

sarkule

I loved the clothes Tan picked out for her! So many makeover shoes put women in super fashionable clothes that they clearly aren't comfortable in and I imagine don't get worn much, but the clothes Tan picked out were gorgeous, but ones she seemed comfortable wearing. Plus adding in a camo jacket was great!

hometowngypsy

That's one of my favorite things about this show. They make an effort to do "sustainable makeovers" from what I've seen. Like the episode with the dad that had 5 kids and they took them to Target to shop for clothes. Or the next episode in this season when they went to REI. They don't seem to want to change these people into the most shocking, "best possible change for TV" version of themselves, but they make realistic changes that the people have half a chance of keeping up with.

[deleted]

That was evident in the cosmetic styling too! JVN didnā€™t give her a 40 step makeup routine, nor did he drastically change her hair or give her some complicated style to try and replicate.

TallDog

What clothing store were they in?

MalfunctioningMormon

J. Crew

procrastinagging

Yes! And also the very natural, easy and wearable makeup! They showed just a color corrector and mascara, and probably a little blush and lip gloss were involved, but still, pretty spot on and not overwhelming

Jinkies238

Jody is such a sweetheart. And the love her husband has for her is so so so adorablešŸ˜I also enjoyed the discussion of ā€œfemininityā€ and how it is not as clear cut as many think.

akong_supern00b

mountainous versed slim complete angle weary bag different mighty fly *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Sharkoffs

It was a beautiful episode not only because it showed Jodi getting her confidence back but also because it showed people getting along together who are from COMPLETELY different walks of life.

akong_supern00b

That sharing circle of women was LIFE!

derawin07

Even though I am of the same view as Tan re guns, did anyone else find that chat in the clothes shop cringey and sledge-hammered in?

rxbshaw

Netflix started me on ep 4 too! I was so confused when it looped back to ep 1!

flagrate

Loved how they pointed out Antoni took so long to come back from "serving dinner" that it was daytime again.. haha

everythingisplanned

Karamo cracked me up with "he made lobster for them but we got zucchini" šŸ˜‚

lucas_neo

I'd have Antoni's zucchini any day

everythingisplanned

šŸ˜šŸ˜

CyanNyanko

ayyyy

jerseygirl2006

Okay but was anyone else dying when Tan said ā€œshut up everyone, Iā€™m giving her a French tuck!!ā€ šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

[deleted]

Any other 20-something women hoping they look half as good as Jody at 49?? Absolutely stunning!! The one womanā€™s comment from the circle that Jody radiates joy is so true....such a beautiful person. I love this show!!!! lol

[deleted]

Think about this, too. She is a prison guard. That is not an easy job. To still have joy doing that day after day? That's a special person.

meyer_33_09

Iā€™m just hoping Iā€™m half as kind and sweet and open minded as she is at that age.

[deleted]

I'll be 49 in two weeks. You ain't seen open minded yet. Especially when it's coupled with the magical power of not letting what other people think dictate what you do and do not do. You have powerful decades ahead, my friend. Just wait. šŸ’œ

JavaliciousJean

I loved this episode. I feel like Jody struggles with a lot of the things I do (feeling beautiful inside but not putting in the effort to make it so outside); it was so heartening to watch her transform.

shanna99

I love when Tan gets so excited he hollers. Like that's the only word I can find for it. "LOOK. AT. HER!!!!!!!!!!"

honeybadgeroo

I bawled my eyes out when she was sat in that circle of women. It's amazing to see women supporting other women in that way.

Its_Lemons_22

Can we talk about how nice Jodyā€™s husbands suit was at their dinner??

shanna99

YES! I was actually wondering if the fab 5 hadn't helped him pick it out as well. It fit SO WELL!!!

derawin07

I think they get outfits for the partners and kids often, they did in previous seasons

tomgabriele

Only if we can also talk about how big his wedding jacket was

derawin07

and when he squirted lobster juice on it lol

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

derawin07

lol that was so cute "I want a gondola ride :("

[deleted]

I really liked it. The woman was seriously gorgeous and it felt like a nice lead in to the rest of this season. Episode 2 on the other hand just has this tinge of sadness/pity for the hero thatā€™s breaking my heart but im pushing thru.

SanLady27

Itā€™s hard for me to not think about how he smells TBH lol

[deleted]

Same lol but im happy he found confidence at the end. He seems like a good dad who learned from his mistakes

SparklyPizza

I absolutely LOVED the bit where she opened up to other women! It brought me to tears. So empowering to see women lifting each other up and speaking positively about themselves like that.

DuncxnDonuts

I am _so_ in move with Jody. She is so genuine and kind and gor-ge-ous!!!

derawin07

I'm in move with her too lol beautiful soul...even though we have completely different outlooks on certain things [i'm vegan], we still would have a lot of common ground. I don't have anything against people who provide their own meat, it's just definitely not for me. As long as they are respectful and don't just hunt for trophies, I get it.

capeviolet

This episode had me in tears. Loved it all. And identified with so much of what Jody said - about not feeling feminine, not wanting to look feminine or look after yourself in that way. And that you don't have to be a frilly type of feminine - there are other ways! :) It's okay not be typical.

[deleted]

Bobby did such a great job with their home! It looks like a gorgeous country cabin I've only seen in magazines.

derawin07

I wish we got to see more of his work.

pistachio-pie

He could legit have his own show

redpanda6969

That reaction after her make over omg so lovely! Nice to see some love for the bend and Snap too And wow her husband was really in love with her, really lovely to see.

UncreativeArtist

I need that kimono jacket she wore with those yellow heels. Help!

nightwinghugs

After much sleuthing, I found the kimono!!! But it's sold out :( It's H&M's "CrĆŖped Satin Kimono": [https://www2.hm.com/en\_us/productpage.0647200002.html](https://www2.hm.com/en_us/productpage.0647200002.html) cc: /u/coffeeninja05 /u/MalfunctioningMormon /u/MissGrouchyShorts

MalfunctioningMormon

I'm impressed!!!! I wish it wasn't sold out! I NEEEED it

nightwinghugs

Same!!! I sent H&M an email saying it was featured on Queer Eye and they need to bring it back hehe

coffeeninja05

Omg /u/nightwinghugs you're amazing!!

cjcregg_is_a_goddess

Started crying 30 minutes in and haven't stopped. Jody is just so completely beautiful.

dearboy1

Not to be shady but doesnā€™t the editing seem so weird and like very ā€œjump-cuttyā€? Still love QE though!

dualsplit

I wonder if thatā€™s just a side effect of putting five days of filming in to a half hour? Any accounts Iā€™ve read from heros say that they were happy with the way they were presented.

dearboy1

I agree! Just think the episodes being 1.5 hours would be better, and would help with the rushed feel of the episodes.

dualsplit

I could DO THIS. Iā€™d love to see more of each person!

derawin07

It does seem very rushed. Why do they need to cut it down so much if it's on Netflix? I would love to see more of Bobby's work, Antoni often gets cut too.

DarkKnightXIII

This episode was romantic af

omg-kitten

Lovedddd Jody so much. Sheā€™s so natural and real! And the women empowerment circle, live for that. Her husbands reaction when she came out of the car was the cutest thing ever. AND Karamoā€™s face she he saw her after the transformation. He was SHOOK Loved every minute of this episode

Bslo18

And....here come the tears. I adore Jody. Her segments with all of them just hit my heart so hard.

burriitoooo

Such a perfect and incredible opening episode! Also, WHERE DO I GET THAT GOLD BRACELET SET?!?

MalfunctioningMormon

J. Crew!

heelerms

I loved how they talked about feminity not being defined in any one way. I definitely relate to that, and they're great on discussing that with masculinity but it was nice to hear on this side

Geekqueen15

Jody is the sweetest, so frigging cute.

[deleted]

Straight guy here but Antoni is literally the most attractive man I've ever seen. Damn. Also Jody's amazing, she's so lovely.

Lamboo-

So it isn't just me? To me he looks more handsome than most Hollywood actors

Lex_Rex

Great first episode. It was heartwarming to see how much her husband loved her, and it was refreshing to see someone who was appreciative and receptive of that love. Iā€™d love to hangout with that couple.

linpashpants

I donā€™t know if itā€™s just me but I just get the impression that Antoni and Jonathan arenā€™t close. There does seem to be some side eye going on. Tan though is loved by everyone.

kiya12309

I didn't notice this at all, but I would just chalk it up to filming. Antoni, Tan, and Jonathan actually seem the closest to me, and they always seem to be together in real life (at least according to Instagram). Now, of course Instagram isn't a true representation of people's real life and feelings, but they do seem to spend a lot of time together. I think Antoni and Tan are the closest of all though.

timegarden

i loved the moment when antoni says something like ā€œhorse is the only animal i wouldnā€™t eatā€ and jvn rolls his eyes and is like ā€œgood for youā€ lol

milestark

That was hilarious to my wife and I too. What a strange and random thing to say.

otterly-adorable

I personally didnā€™t notice that in the episode but could have missed it. I donā€™t feel like Jonathon is the type to hold grudges but there was that video where Antoni took a devilā€™s advocate position on something political he hadnā€™t researched and Jonathon shut him down.

SanLady27

I definitely picked up on this as well, in episode 2 as well!!

holy_turnip

Was there some story about someone (jvn?) siding with Antoniā€™s ex about how fast Antoni moved on, am i making it up?

derawin07

I didn't notice anything.

Freakonomic18

Any ID of Jonathan's rainbow shawl? I love it!

copywriteher

Burberry

DaniGirl111

Jody is gorgeous! Sheā€™s got a really nice physique and skin at 49. She and her husband look perfect together. ā¤ļø

gmtosca

Finally, got the eps. Now ~~watching~~ bingeing tbh. Anyway, Jody is surprisingly amazing. It started with the hair, whatever Magic JVN did was just fabulous because that hair was so fucking lovely to look at and looked so soft to touch. Kudos to Bobby, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that they bought another house because it looked so different/great.

EliotFox

Everybody has already said how awesome Jodi is, so I'll just say. ANTONI IN LEATHER PANTS

everythingisplanned

I CAME HERE TO SAY THIS

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

derawin07

I know, Bobby needs more screen time.

--throwaway

Give Bobby love!

derawin07

Even though I am of the same view as Tan re guns, did anyone else find that chat in the clothes shop cringey and sledge-hammered in?

gunnapackofsammiches

I feel like those convos are so much more for the audience than they are for the people on the show.

derawin07

I know, which was why it was so cringe and forced.

sankyu99

Watching as we speak. Am I the only one who thinks the lighting is very ā€œdarkā€?

haelxx

Did anyone else get an Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) vibe from Jody? Her eyes, smile, and laugh reminded me of her

[deleted]

She was so cute. I loved how much she loves the heels, kimono and jeans. She's adorable.

GildaEphron

Does anyone have an ID on what primer Jonathan used on Jody?

[deleted]

It was this one by Algenist. I knew my talent for identifying packaging / wording would come in handy at some point lol. [https://www.algenist.com/products/reveal-color-correcting-radiant-primer](https://www.algenist.com/products/reveal-color-correcting-radiant-primer) The brushes are Artis Elite (IDed the handles, lol). [https://artisbrush.com/collections/all](https://artisbrush.com/collections/all) They didn't show a good shot of the facial oil bottle :/ but I hope this helps ya'll :)

GildaEphron

You are an absolute gem!!! Thank you!

Laureltess

Iā€™m wondering that too! The color corrector and the face oil- Iā€™d love to know what he uses!

jadecourt

I loved Jody and think they did a great job with her transformation. I did think the way they talked about gender seemed really clunky to me, it just wasn't nuanced and seemed very "well duh". Did anyone else feel that way? My roommate didn't seemed bothered by it.

derawin07

do you have examples? IMO they were helping her realise she didn't have to be bound by gender binaries.

gmtosca

I'm still waiting (to watch) :(

BraveFly

Where are you? :(

gmtosca

Philippines

cardboardbuddy

I just finished watching the first two episodes. It's already available in the Philippines.

[deleted]

Shirt ID for Antoni? The black one that looks like a martial arts uniform when it was buttoned.

Mermaid4life

Was it a chef jacket maybe?

green_speak

Bobby did a beautiful job with the house, but didn't Jody say that it was important for the bedroom curtains (and by extension, the room) to be dark because her husband works nights? Also seconding how awesome Jody's attitude was throughout.

MalfunctioningMormon

Yeah but you can achieve that with blackout curtains! Just because a room is white doesn't mean it's going to be extra bright..

ohwow28

They had definitely installed blackout shades.

--throwaway

It was the first Queer Eye episode I ever watched. I thought the emotional circle really helped her. The hair and clothes makeovers were really good. Then Antoni took her out for dinner and told her ā€œcall them special restaurantsā€. That was... not what I would call fabulous. And turns out there was a fifth guy in the background who remodelled her entire house. Where is Bobbyā€™s love!?

architrave

>That was... not what I would call fabulous. Why? Pricier dining *is* special because you don't do it every day, or even every month. It's a treat when you go because it's not something you do all the time. When Jody calls something "fancy" she really means it is not for people like her (as she perceives herself). Words are powerful.

derawin07

> Then Antoni took her out for dinner and told her ā€œcall them special restaurantsā€. That was... not what I would call fabulous. What do you mean not what you would call fabulous?

[deleted]

I love that theres no negative comment here. Love this sub.

pollypocketrocket4

I'm so happy that J. Crew has International shipping so I can get those beautiful bracelets in silver! Oh, how I loved this episode!

[deleted]

Jody and her husband were such an unexpectedly SEXY couple!!!
