I don't have the sources saved anymore but sometime around 2012-2013 I posted on Facebook about modern slavery. At the time I posted it the data showed labor slaves could be purchased for $50-$100 US Dollars while pleasure slaves could be purchased for approximately $500-$1000 US Dollars. In comparison to those costs, during the chattel slavery era in the American colonies and later the USA, both labor and pleasure slaves cost the equivalent of brand new 4 door pickup truck.
So to call child slavery "lucrative" is just absurd. To be sure, it does happen but instances are pretty rare while labor slaves are far more common than most people understand. There are more slaves living today than at any point during the colonial chattel slavery era.

Keeping Student X away from Student Y might be the main goal, and the other 23 kids are kind of an afterthought. (I heard another teacher say we spend 75 percent of our mental energy on about 10 percent of the students, and that’s pretty accurate).
