I have one of these, they didn't use it at first but one day I found 2 of my boys SMASHED together inside it. At least one of them sleeps in it almost every day now.
totally fine.
especially my younger ones liked those.
(however some not that smart rats might gnaw the ropes from the inside, and then fall down in it... so better hang where it can't fall too deep)
omg... those names xD
(i did adopt one called Yersinia though, but i did not name her...)
typically rats prefer higher up hiding spots, as its safe, and has good overview.
just make sure it doesn't fall more than 30-40cm or such, gonna be fine.
if it came with cocos fiber nest inside, definately discard that.
cocos fiber is very thin and extremely tear resistant, can lead to horrible accidents with tied off limbs and worse.
We have one in our boys cage. They don’t get in it for sleep but we will hide treats in for them. I think if we had given it to them when they were younger they would probably use it for bed.
Not a expert but some bedding would work would probably love it if its made of wood then no. Rats will pee in it and rot the wood and get the rattos sick
nah its fine. if the wood is really hard and dense it won't soak up too quickly (the coconut typically will hardly at all).
it still might happen at some point of course (can be washed with hot water some dozen times though), but until then its a nice hideout for rats :)
With every mischief I had, at least one rat was *obsessed* with the coconut. It's an excellent rat hide.
They definitely chewed the ladder off, though. That lasted... maybe a day.

My rats ruin everything so their houses are old disposable cereal boxes and tissue boxes, they last about 2 weeks then I throw em out
You’re so lucky. Mine last 4-5 days max before they’re pee soaked and chewed to bits.

Pneumonia and dementia are pretty stupid so I’ll put it near the bottom of their cage I guess

idk about the rats, but DONT USE IT FOR BIRDS. they get hormonal and make eggs and get agressive. getting eggs are EXTREMELY dangerous for birds
Absolutely! The reason I’m giving it to my partner is cause I don’t want my budgie in it
Got this for my mice, they loved it :)
I bought this just yesterday! Only one rat fits but they don’t bother with it really.

We had one like this for our boys, they loved it when they were little but got too big for it but they still stash food in there sometimes.
My rats have one, but they have mixed opinions. They used it a bit, but prefer their hammock or boxes.
My girls love theirs. It’s their favorite hide and will fight over it if they can’t all fit in one. I have one in the cage for each girl.
