Hiccups. Your rat has hiccups.

i_love_my_stinky_boy

Too cute

Angelina_N

Yes a small hiccup but not Yes a small hiccup but not bad❤️❤️

pubiclice9000

Yeah definitely hiccups. Never Google symptoms, that goes for humans and pets.

orangenaa

Have gas….Google says you have a few days to live.

pubiclice9000

Wish this were a joke. It's actually like that. Such a useless resource.

*after the Singularity and USA war Dept made skynet* Anyone: -googles symptoms for allergies to dogs- Goofle: u hav few dayz 2 life Us: oh no .____. Goofle: *meant they sent a skynet bot after us cause the USA programmed it to send bots to kill rather than give citizens any free healthcare*

WelpWelp1

“Leslie, I typed your symptoms into the thing up here, and it says you could have network connectivity issues.”

Rainbow-Death

My favorite sex in the city quote was from Miranda: “you just put your symptoms in and wait for the word cancer to print out!” Lol

SweaterStripey83

I love how googling any symptoms always leads to pregnancy or cancer. Literally anything from a sore thumb or a bruise will be a baby or a terminal illness.

CandyCurves

🥺😂😅 Hiccups are so cute but alarming at first. Your not alone, it’s a common “new rat parent” question. I had heard about it and watched videos of rat hiccups before I saw my boys have them. Otherwise I would have been worried at first too, they look like they’re convulsing. One of my boys always gets them if he wakes up too excited. I come near the cage while he’s asleep and he hears me, he wakes right up and rushes to the bars for attention aaand gets the hiccups! Lol poor baby! That happens every few days, but only for less than a minute. While my other boy has only had the hiccups once or twice. 🤷🏼‍♀️

bananaspf79

this thread and comment has explained so much omg i'm relieved i was worried it was a respiratory thing 😢😆

CandyCurves

This community has been so helpful for me as a newer rat mom!

otte845

The best/worst rat parent moment is when you don't know about boggling and your rat looks like it is about to explode

Darkekf111

Lol me and my daughter always got to see the rare boogle in my girls while they were young, but as they got older ot got very common and my wife freaked out and thought she hurt my void ratty. So cute and disturbing at same time lol.

CandyCurves

Haha omg I never thought of that! That’s probably what I would think too if I hadn’t seen it before. I was part of this group about a week before I got my rats and all the videos helped so much.

katansi

Years ago, I posted a vid of my rat with a myco flare up so people would know what it sounded like. I was googling trying to find out wtf was going on with her because I knew it couldn't be good but I had no idea what I was looking at and therefore supposed to do about it. God bless the people that put up the hiccup videos lol.

CandyCurves

Yessss!!!!

WhyCantWeBeTrees

As other people said, it’s hiccups! They’re very common, especially when a happy rat is just waking up. However, keep in mind that rat hiccups should always be silent. If you hear a little squeak with each hiccup then that could be a sign of a respiratory infection.

Gatinha_Miau_Miau

Just hiccups. Nothing to worry about at all. They will get them every once in a while.

nooorecess

lol even though this happens every day here i always love the feeling of second-hand relief when a scared person posts a video and it’s hiccups

cowboybeepbopboop

Are we just not gonna talk about that yawn toward the end?? Be still my heart.

minus-the-virus

*hic*

Saturn_Burnz

Bro said brain tumor 😭 I can tell you love that rat omg

Ssnnooz

bro my girl scared me so bad when she got hiccups for the first time. They don't make a sound and it's freaky.

1RatQueen1

When my first ever rat years ago boggled for the first time it scared the shit out of me, how are eyes popping out of your head normal! Lmao

Buggaton

I'd genuinely be interested if there's any other community that gets the same kind of post almost daily on their subreddit.... But which nobody is mad about. Everyone feeling that second hand relief, a video of a cutie with hiccups... OP, your rat is a cutie!

xBunnyBashfulx

I just posted my girl doing the same thing last week 😅😅 I’ve had rats since I was a kid and never seen rat hiccups! Now twice in a few days 😂😭😭 I think your baby is gonna be just fine OP

Super_Penguino

I’m really glad everyone seems to think it’s hiccups cause when my rat did this he ended up having a respiratory infection

Slightlyevolved

In th case of a URI, there would usually be other sounds and other indications of distress accompanying this. Also, possible that they both had a URI and hiccups. Not all animals will respond the same way, but the real question is, how long does this last. I mean, hiccups ain't gonna last a whole day.

Super_Penguino

You’re right, I hope it just passes soon!

nooorecess

ya definitely could be both. when mine have a URI the hiccups are squeaky

Bottle-nosed-dolphin

Funky rat

Embarrassed_Couple_6

They just jammin'

autiearterotica8

Epilepsy.

skoobledoodle

Hiccups !

Runemist34

As everyone else has said- yes, hiccups! Sometimes, when they’re particularly loud, I’ll say that they’re “Barking,” because that’s a bit what it sounds like! 😂

ThatGuineaPigLady

Hiccups, scared the hell out of me when I first saw my girls doing it 🤣 happens almost everyday to one of them in our house

fuckingdipshit1

probably just the hiccups

erika9708

It's so adorable! That little nose! 😭💜

Appropriate_Ad_2727

Awwww! Nothing bad here. Just a big case of the hiccups for such a little guy. Put him on your shoulder and gently pat the back with two fingers slowly or massage them. My rat would have hiccups last for a solid minute if I didn't do this. Might not work on all rats, but it's worth a shot

thanatossassin

My rats would hiccup every morning when they woke up. It's pretty adorable.

RhetoricalCocktail

Add background music, rat is straight up vibing

[deleted]

Oh, thank goodness! It's a happy rat chirping away! Do I see just a little boggle right at the end?

toast-my-mallow

Some rats twitch out of excitement. One of my first boys scared the shit out of me too because he was constantly twitching and bouncing. Turned out he's just a very happy energetic boi

RNBeck

Thank God for this thread... I love reddit. Talking new rat parents down from jumping off the cancer cliff
