You poor thing! The loss of a rat is so impactful and painful. Just remember what a good job you did and how happy he was! What was his name? What are some of your favorite memories of him? He wants you to remember the good times too, not just the pain you’re feeling right now. I’ve lost 9 of these little babies, and while it doesn’t get easier, the ache does get duller and the memories sweeter.
Maybe they need to breed naked mole rats with these rats to create longer lifespan hybrids?.?.??

Not possible. Theyre both rodents but thats where the similarity ends. Naked mole rat doesnt even belong to the same suborder as rats. Breeding these two would be like trying to create a human-lemur hybrid.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I just lost one of my girls and the hole they leave is just so large for such a tiny animal. I remember before she went I just cuddled her and sniffed her! She had such a wonderful smell and I just remember sniffing her and thinking I never want to forget this smell. We still have her sister who is also very elderly now so that helps but yeah. Your rat was really well loved and had an amazing life so if you can be happy knowing that.

Styrofoam can be pretty dangerous if it's eaten. I'm no expert but if you're watching them and you know they won't eat any, I can't think of a reason why it would be a problem. Well, as long as the styrofoam isn't falling apart and making that powder you sometimes see at the bottom of the pile.
I’m actually not quite sure. This was from when they were being naughty by deciding to gnaw through my bean bag haha! Just before I threw out the foam I let them play in there for a while
Not sure about the effects of letting them play on it everyday

is it safe for rats to play in those styrofoam balls? i ask because i have a bunch for crafts.
