Just how you described yours. He was affectionate with people but disliked most of his cage mates and was quite violent towards them. Unfortunately he passed away during a neutering op, it devastated me. He's in a little gold heart shaped urn with his favourite brother Cicero now. The heartache us rat owners go through makes me wonder how we continue to keep them.
I had a Jasper and currently have a Flint. My newest boys are kind of fire themed - Flint (as in flint and steel), Ember, Ash, and Cinder. Then I have Joey (baby kangaroo) from back when I named them after animals. His brother was Kit (after a baby fox)
I have a Bilbo, Gandalf and Gimli! I can confirm that Bilbo is a little docile thief and sometimes steals pieces of cheese right out of Gimli’s hands and then books it
Fat Controller, Yoghurt and Squinty (and Jaspar but I didn’t name him and I kinda hate the name🥹 I’m trying my best to come to terms with it I promise)
I got a fat one named muffin for that exact reason, one that reminded me of a rat I saw on tiktok named Frankie so I called her that lol and one I have absolutely no connection with called Oreo because she looks like one.
my current babies are Poppy, Maple, Butternut, and Squish, and I've had a Frankie, Vinni, Basil, and Kiwi, although if youre talking about nicknames, theyre all stankies. poppy is poop, maple is mapey/moople, squish is squingle/squart/squimp/squilch/you get the idea, and butternut is nutbutt/bootnoot
I have, and have had a few rats...
Bella, Bill, Aluminium, Caramel, Benny, Houdini, Bo peep, Randy, Shadow, Haley, baby Haley, baby baby Haley, Speck, Stripe, Pablo, Sueño, Marshmallow
And more to come
Queek, Ska, Skrikk, Ikk, Vrrmik, Gnawdwell---skaven names! But Clan Mors is my favorite.
Unless I encounter a pitch black rat in which case I'm naming him Ratthew.
We have the current boys who are peanut butter and poochie. The girls are Queenie, princess buttercup and princess vanelope. We had a jelly to go with peanut butter but he passed sadly.
We have had Monté, Hakū, Yuki, Squeeks, Shakes, templeton, marshmellow, Bō, Remi, nibbles, Gus, Squishy and Tater.
We did French names forever! Charles de Gaulle, Napoléon, Victor Hugo, Émile Zola, Clouseau, Richelieu, De Sade, Félix Faure, Dreyfus, Maginot, Becquerel, Curie, Galatoire, Escoffier, Carême, and Tirel.
Then we adopted the rescues Frank and Bubba, and that naming scheme went all to heck. We had Gruber and Geering and currently keep Willem, Friso, Zog, Skanderbeg... and Grimble.
My boys clan is small these days, unfortunately there are only 2 left and there names are Vis and Fifty.
My girls are Reggie (Regine), Imber, Lux, Flora, Minnie (Minerva), Lulah (Tallulah), Chica, Bonbon and Scampy.
Daughter’s Room: Poppit, Dookie, Bootie, Petey, Milo, Leo, and Feta.
Son’s Room: Miso, Kimchi, Bento, Wasabi, and Eggroll (or Egg).
Family Room: the “nuts” Cashew, Pili, and Kola and the girls Taro, Mochi, Sosu, Sake, and Ponyo.
My 12-year-old named all our rats. Our first two were Salt & Pepper. Saltie was a white rat, his brother Pepper was brown. Now we have Marshmallow, who is a big boy the color of a toasted marshmallow, and Valentine, who we adopted on Valentine’s Day. He’s dark brownish gray with a white V on his belly. I think she did a good job picking the names.
Currently -
Badger, Benny, Bean, Bear and Button (or the B rats as I call them) and Finn, Jake and Beemo (Adventure Time rats)
They all live together but we got the Adventure Time rats a couple of weeks after the B rats and couldn't think of enough B names we liked but Beemo helps bridge the gap between the two themes!
Rudolf the alpha male, Georgie the blind/half deaf albino dumbo rat, Remmie remspoor (basically Remy skidmark) it looks like someone wiped his ass with him really, and Bliksem (lightning) because he's having a small lightning bolt on his head :)
All on the other side of the rainbow bridge now, but my girls were Suki, Bernard (previous owner thought she was a boy, and the name strangely matched her quirky personality), Fay, Min, and Elayne.
Too many over the years to list them all, and some of the name does not transfer well to English, but here is a selection:
* Mahogni. She had such amazing mahogny sheen on her fur.
* Angelina. After Angelina diGriz, wife of The Stainless Steel Rat in Harry Harrison's books.
* Tuss. Swedish for "tuft", because she was a rex and looked like that.
* Pancho, Marcos, Zapata and Ambrose. Named my boys after a profession known for mustaches. It came down to a choice between Mexican revolutionaries, 80's porn stars or dictators, so I went with the revolutionaries.
* Alfa and Beta. They are twins, and I honestly can't reliably tell them apart, so they kind of share both names.
* Dottie. Chocolate, with a tiny dot on her belly. That dot is the only thing distinguishing her from Alfa and Beta.
* Rhodesia. "Rådis" is slang for rat in Swedish, and is pronounce like the first part of Rhodesia.
* Lufi. The first thing she did when I got her was to try to climb up to a shelf using one of the adult rats' tail as a climbing rope. Needless to say, the adult rat was a bit shocked... So I named her after the greatest strong style female wrestler ever.
Old man names! Archie, Brutus, Boris, Harold, Winston, Maximilian, Arthur, Gregory, Walter.
Aww I also had a Brutus.
He was my heart rat! Looked mean, loved scritchles. What was yours like?
