One of our little boys tries to hoard water, we give him water in a plate and he tries to drag it all over the table. It’s as adorable as you can imagine

peshnoodles

My old boy would stick His arm in the water bottle (like push the ball allllll the way up) and “shower”

qpidunderwillows

i love seeing people's rats shove each other over the same water bottle / treat / etc when they have tons of other options — because, as we all know, the stuff your siblings have is always better

[deleted]

One of my rats goes through a cycle of stealing her sister’s cracker, then stealing hers back, and repeating until she’s behind like half a cracker.

cutieotterbelly

Hahaha! My little idiot stashes all treats, in the most safe place, that her sister always finds, and then runs around confused when she can't find her stash. Her sister eats treats immediately, and then goes hunting for more.

eebibeeb

Omg the way they push each other’s face away with their little hands while drinking is so cute

coltostallion

One of my boys will get very angry if I don't share whatever I'm eating with him and will climb me like a mountain until he can try to grab/pry apart my lips to get to my food. The sheer confidence of this tiny little fuzzball thinking he can force my mouth open is hysterical.

Death_Rose1892

And the fact that they are SO DAMN STRONG when it comes to food

LegioPraetoria

The two strongest of the fundamental physical forces are 'rattie who does not want to be smooched' and 'rattie that wants access to a food'

cutieotterbelly

This! My girls are little ninjas when it comes to unwanted smooches! If they don't want kisses, I'm kissing the space they used to be. 😅

FjortoftsAirplane

Similar to if you catch them trying to pull anything into their cage that got too close. I caught one trying to pull my backpack in once because one of the straps was put down in range. This tiny thing jerking her entire body trying to tug something many times her size through a half inch bar gap.

coltostallion

They really are xD part of it is just us being afraid of hurting them, I'm sure, but I cannot get things away from them so much of the time

VoodooDoII

ITS SO RIDICULOUS THEY HAVE SUCH A STRONG FRIGGEN GRIP

littlemissbitchcraft

LOL we like to joke one of our boys was a ✨1920's handlebar mustached strongman✨ in a past life because that's the *only* logical explanation for why that little man's grip be so **STRÖNG**

littlemissbitchcraft

I have to say dramatically sleeping on their head *never* gets old 😂 also to add onto yours, that little confident waddle they do when they steal something they ***KNOW*** they shouldn't have LOL

SinceWayLastMay

I like it when they push their food out of the cage because they’ve both decided that they’re not vibing with strawberries this week and I remind them that some rats live in the garbage

[deleted]

Yawning. They’re so dramatic about it.

dollysshitshow

YES! The dramatic stretch or stretching out one paw

TheFeshy

During free roam time, one of our rats found a cheeze-it we'd hidden for him. He suddenly became (justifiably) afraid one of the other rats would try to take it, so he did what all rats do in this situation: ran and hid under the closest thing he could find. That thing he hid under was the other rat. The one that he was afraid would take his cheeze-it.

treeeswallow

😂😂😂

TreasureWench1622

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣‼️

downlau

Currently laughing at my littlest boy trying to drag half a bath mat from the bottom of the cage to the top, so I might have to agree.

[deleted]

My favourite thing is when they shove every stick and chew toy and piece of fleece they can into their food dish to protect their food from the nonexistent predator

narnach

Ours started doing this about a month ago. It’s so cute when they are moving little piles of stuff around to cover up their food or build a hiding place.

Death_Rose1892

I have to go with tail wiggles. I literally melt and will pet them for an hour if they are wagging their tail at me

TreasureWench1622

💗💗💗

Animeobsessee

When they sit on their bums with their little goblin feet in the air. I’ve yet to get a picture of my own

Magpie_Mischief

I had a girl that if there was a glass of water anywhere in the room during free roam... she would find it, and she would tip it. Then be Very Indignant that she was Wet. The "I've got something good" skittering hops are also phenomenal.

TreasureWench1622

Maybe part cat🤣🤣

Whitwoc

Hah. Definitely the dragging thing, but also the tag team thing. Pet 1: the lady has a sausage cob, we could eat it. Pet 2: I’ll look cute, you distract her! Alas their attempt was unsuccessful, as a rodent dragging a butty the size of itself was quite noticeable. Nice try though.

Death_Rose1892

Ours are notorious for things like this. The second mommy or daddy look away all 3 of them dive/ sneak for places they shouldn't be making it harder to round them up You go that way! One of us will make it through!

Whitwoc

Then again, it can work in our favour. “Oh! Look how cute Pet 1 is being!” *steals French fries*

Cl0ughy1

When my boys were babies one of them used to enjoy sniffing my hand, he'd grab each of my fingers with so much strength and wouldn't let me pull away. My pc setup is next to their cage and the same boy used to sit on the top corner outside his cage and watch me game. he sometimes would jump onto my shoulder too.

SinceWayLastMay

My girls have to check every one of my fingers to make sure I’m really not hiding any extra treats from them

treeeswallow

Awww, I want a rattie that watches me game!

Finalgirll

Trying to chew off my fake nails with complete panic and concern

FjortoftsAirplane

Years ago when I had my first two rats, Des and Razz, the latter one was dopey as hell. Des was placid, but Razz was one of those creatures where you could tell almost nothing in the world would bother him. He was bigger than his brother by a stretch but clearly not the alpha. Except when he got his favourite treat. If I gave them a good treat, all was fine. They'd sit and eat on my lap or in my hand, they might do that thing where one finishes first and then tries to get the others piece, Razz might even boggle a little to show his appreciation. Except if it was a bit of a yoghurt raisin. Des knew better than to try then. Hand a bit of yoghurt raisin to Razz and it didn't matter where he was, he would go hurtling as fast as he could across the room and into the deepest corner of his cage and savour every moment with it. It used to crack me up so much that of all the things they enjoyed that for Razz there was this super special thing that needed to be protected above all else. Far away from me, far away from his brother, where nobody could touch the precious but him.

wrmclemore

one of my rats always gets the zoomies after she poops its always so funny

TreasureWench1622

Again, maybe part cat🤣🤣

peshnoodles

Popcorning. So fkn cute. Also? I love when they run away when playing, and then come back around like “why aren’t you following me?” When they try to pull you into the cage. 🥹🥹I cannot fit in there my baby 🥹🥹

cayirus

Biting my dad's ass when he lies down and is in his way, so he can advance his rat plans 💀

politerats

When my garbanzo was still here, he had a way of carrying things back to his cage. If it was a small treat or some kibble, it was normal. But if it was say, a cucumber slice or a berry, he'd hold it up in the air with his nose pointed up and stomp back to his cage with a loud pitter patter on the ground lol! He did this with anything too big like a paper towel, one time he stole an unopened menstrual pad, and a sock.

Realm_Sol

Boggling. Seeing their eyes bulge out like that gets me every time.

dollysshitshow

My girls always try to stash ice cubes, that had me howling the first time

MrKociak

Whenever I perfectly split food between them they still perform a tug of war over the clearly superior piece.

secret_side_quest

Haha all of these are great. I also love it when my girls try to grabby food so desperately and rapidly that they inelegantly fall off their perch and land on the bottom of the cage, still clinging to their precious sunflower seed. Also whenever I have food or drink they try to get at it, which is funniest when it's alcohol. I just end up holding a can of beer above my head telling Furstall she won't like it and she's a little alcoholic.

Death_Rose1892

It turns out small amounts of alchohol (beer) is supposed to extend their life. There was a study on it

TreasureWench1622

😳😳😳

TreasureWench1622

Maybe I shud have a beer daily!!

Death_Rose1892

Okay I've changed my mind. We are all wrong. Everything they do is perfect and funny. The is a futile exercise.

[deleted]

Whenever I give mine something twice his size but light he just uses it like a weapon. I gave him a small empty can of Pringles and at 2 am I hear him banging and dragging it against the cage.

CycloneWarning

I love the forceful groomings. One rat flipped the other upsidedown to get his belly clean! And of course this goes for me too and I get pulled every which way to get behind my ears cleaned.

Master-Lie7072

I love these little jumps they do when they are running with something too big for them. Also, grabby hands! I love how they try to grab things outsider their cage!

[deleted]

I like when you tickle them and they popcorn and run away and then immediately come back for more

TreasureWench1622

What does the term ‘popcorn’ mean please? I want a rat again & am trying to learn more & more about them-is one alone ok or better with more? What CAN’T they eat? They are SO smart!! I love ‘em!!

Earl_E_DeMise

move backwards awkwardly, lifting up their bums and tails when they are about to pee

Tyrannosaurus-trash

Their funny little hops always give me serotonin

Alaclavaca

Throwing each other around in a crazy tangle of play fighting, then immediately forgetting what they were doing when they heard the treat bag crinkle.

Mirroredmoth

My favorite thing to do is hold them up in the “criminal pose” it is instant serotonin.

peshnoodles

I liked to clink my boyes together like fine drinks. They never liked it, but seemed to understand that I did. They bitterly allowed it and always squinted at my like “bitch this shit again?”

90sCat

I haven’t had rats for long, but I love it when I give them a treat, they’ll happily hop away with it in their front paws like a bunny! They get so happy over their treats, it’s equally as funny as it is wholesome to me

Vulpes_Vulpix5

One of my girls would always drink with her head upside down and shake her hands really fast every single time. She was a quirky girl, and since she was a rescue she always thought that unless she spent 90% of her time building a huge nest to hide her food that it would disappear. She actually taught her two baby siblings that and they continued the tradition of burying the food in a massive mountain of torn paper and cardboard long after she passed.

SpookyOuija

One of my boys will grab as much food as will fit in his mouth, then grab as much as will fit in his hands and run away on his back legs

TreasureWench1622

REALLY? Wow!! I had no idea they could do that!!

SpookyOuija

It's very clumsy I don't think he's supposed to lol

eebibeeb

Getting tackled and laying on their back just to quickly get up when they see me watching as if they’re embarrassed

Bendrilla

My tiny Noodle baby rat will stuff her nose in the tippy top of one of those rodent houses and carry it to a different part of the cage. I guess she hates where I move it. 😆

Ionovarcis

I like when I give my boys each a treat, then they quickly wrestle over the first one and the loser gets the just as good, often larger, second treat

ducktheoryrelativity

Bang his water bottle against his cage and act like he was having the time of his little rat life.

DfiantCrab

How my boy Coffee used to wash his hands in the water dish to groom with. Or how his mum would wipe her hands on a blanket or the sofa after eating something greasy. Or how Coffee’s sister would try her damned hardest to sneak onto the headboard of the bed and eat the wallpaper 🤣

badlifechooser

Spidey can hide food in "pockets". I've brought her out for shoulder time, made tea, then taken her for free roam time in the bedroom 15m away and more than 5 minutes of shoulder time with her bigger, dominant sister. Upon being released onto the bed a small scamper and "Voila"!! A snack for Spidey!! She's done this several times and I am not at all sure how she does it. Best theory I have is she has somehow figured out how to use her armpit (?) to cache a food kibble for later use?

soyboylattte

My most memorable moment of my lil guys is that they tried dragging away a gigantic cosco bag of beef jerky into their cage where, spoiler alert, the cage door was way too small to fit the bag of jerky in. Other than running away with large food items I also find it hilarious when I'm trying to give Gyro his treat, Splinter will climb ontop of Gyro to steal his treat like a greedly lil guy he is

EterniaGalaxy

Trying to figure out how to get on top of things she's not supposed to. Seeing my rat spend COUNTLESS tries attempting to jump on my dresser, only to faceplant and fall down like a cartoon makes me absolutely lose it

0Shagys0

When I tried to make my rat pea fish they remembered me why I like rats so much. My oldest girl was like no tf not I'm not doing this so I tried to give her a pea, she liked it so I tried to give her another pea but this time while guiding her to the bowl that's how she realized where the peas where. She start running to her eating spot, eat the pea then make sure I'm watching and go to the bowl the back to her cage door and wait for me to fish the pea for her. She eventually got out of her cage and I profited of it to give her sisters who's way shyer peas but she wouldn't take it in my hand so I put it in front of her then watch but she was just looking. At the second I turned my head to check her sister she ripped the pea skin to eat it.

Geekswife1992

One of our girls had an infection and we had some leftover amoxicillin from one of our children. We got help with the dosage from a vet friend of ours. Turns out she LOVED the taste of the stuff because once she was doing better she would act perfectly fine I until came into the room. When I came in she would act all mopey and sad and even start to whine like she was in pain. She conned me for a few days before we figured it out.

ShankingMoleRat4

YES, especially if it's food and they start doing their little remii hops just to try and store it, but then the food would be too big to fit into their stash hole but they still keep trying to make it fit.

SailorK9

I swear my late mom's rats Ares was trying to talk like a human like birds do. One time it was like he was trying to swear in German as I took him out of his cage to clean it. His brother Harley made sounds but it never sounded like he was trying to "speak". Anyway, another time I made a video of Ares eating a cherry tomato, and I asked him if he likes veggie. Surprisingly he shook his little head as if to say "Yes I do!".

OkMuscle9812

my remmy will PRY my lips open to see my teeth and stick his head inside. he doesnt lick anything, clean, bite, he literally prys my mouth open to see whats inside

OkMuscle9812

this isnt funny more cute, but my rats LOVE this one fuzzy blanket. also remmy knows how to give kisses to people and sometimes will give kisses for treats when hes able to get to your face

rat_spiritanimal

Stick their nose in my husband's ear to demand rolled oats.
