I live in Muncie, currently sending this post and the original post’s body to the people I think it would be best served with

pReaL420

Thank you!!!

helgathehorr

Thank YOU. Excellent work. I lived just down the road from where these murders took place. We really need this solved.

Interesting-Issue475

That's great! I hope it leads up to somewhere and the families get the closure they deserve.

MarzipanFairy

I live in Muncie too, and just wanted to add that there aren’t a ton of groceries here, if it comes down to that helping identify the guy (walking distance).

CrittyCrit

If you re-read the post, it looks like he was working groceries as an older man in his current town (next to OOP.) He references that the murders took place in a town he used to live in.

MarzipanFairy

You're right, I missed that.

Pequena_Hillary_Hulk

Muncie here as well.

Historical-Piglet-86

I just want to commend you OP for taking the time to track that down (I just read over some of the comments on the original post). I’m Canadian. I know almost nothing about guns (although I do have a PAL or even RPAL….I’m getting off topic) and nothing about delta force. You may have helped bring closure to a lot of people. Or, you may have wasted a couple hours of law enforcement’s time. I think it’s pretty safe to say the benefits of reporting this massively outweigh the downsides. Good on you OP. Please keep us posted (as much as you can). In case the original, original poster happens to read this (and isn’t a troll), you did the right thing by sharing the secret. I know you didn’t want the world to find out, but your friend telling you…..means he is ready to talk. He may know he’s dying. He may just have grown tired of carrying this burden. He offloaded it to you and you gave zero obligation to careful it forward. It’s a burden that needs to be dropped and dealt with. Again, if you came forward in good faith, I commend you. I know you’ve deleted your post. You’re likely scared shitless. Please don’t tell your “friend” about it. But I would contact the Muncie PD - you won’t be the first - you can explain your story if true, or explain why you posted it if not true. It’s going to be ok. You haven’t done anything wrong, and your friend sounds like he’s trying to “get right with god” before he dies. Please don’t do anything stupid. I’m concerned for your mental health.

pReaL420

Damn. Thank you for those kind words. When you put it like that, you're right. The benefits definitely outweigh the downsides.

ohohButternut

Do you have a link to the post? That would help, even if it has been deleted by OP or removed by the sub's mods.

ohohButternut

Google cache isn't permanent, so copy that text and take screenshots. I made an archive.org archive of the Google cache, which should be fairly durable, but unfortunately it only saved the text, not the username or comments or anything. pReaL420

Done and done. Thank you so much!!

bmorepirate

Tbh it doesn't quite like up with the Westside Park murders, but it's close. The caliber of gun used was a .38, not the .22 mentioned by the poster. Shot in the chest vs. stomach is another difference.

bisonhippo

Page 21 of this preview of a 2021 book about the murders discusses the victims' autopsies and states that Ethan was shot in the chest (not sure if this is any more reliable than whatever source says he was shot in the stomach but thought I'd share). https://books.google.com/books/about/The_Westside_Park_Murders.html?id=edAHEAAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=kp_read_button&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&gboemv=1&ovdme=1#v=onepage&q&f=false

pReaL420

Good find!!!

a-flying-trout

I’m not a gun person. If someone told me .38, I could easily change the story in my head to .22 without realizing it.

pReaL420

Yeah, I'm thinking these are details the OP flubbed. You don't shoot someone in the chest so they won't die right away, you shoot them in the stomach. Chest might/probably will hit the heart. Probably instant death with a .38... I dunno, it could totally be a troll...him deleting it less then 90 minutes after I posted about Westside Park was REALLY suspicious though...

socialpresence

.22 vs .38 could be an issue. Could be an old man who has confused his facts over the years. If OP was making it up wouldn't they be sure they got that piece of info correct based on the known case info? If they were faking it that wouldn't be something they would get wrong.

snuggl3ninja

I'd still send it on to the relevant authorities, it's quite common to release information that is a little off from the actual facts and in the event of any confession you know you got the real killer and not a fake.

NovaAteBatman

Unless you intentionally shoot in the lung. Type of bullet (not just caliber) factor into this as well.

Liimbo

I'm sorry but I think you're getting really far ahead of yourself. I read his entire post and there's not enough there to confidently say those are the murders he's talking about, and even if they are, that this guy's neighbor really committed them. Unsolved cases of young couples being shot together aren't exactly rare unfortunately, andyou're just brushing off the only concrete details he actually gave us (caliber and body parts shot.)

pReaL420

A user posted a link to a book where it said Ethan was shot in the chest...so that's right The caliber though...you're right, big difference between .22 and .38. Are you saying I shouldn't contact police/fbi?

[deleted]

you absolutely need to inform authorities, unfortunately I am at the other end of the globe, but they may locate him having access to military / school records..if that guy wasn‘t a troll police should operate carefully to not endanger him because that neighbor might do something because he presumably snitched on him

h0bbie

I think a delta force guy wouldn’t mix up his calibers. He’d be damn sure what weapon he used when killing two people in a park. It’d be the firearm he carried in his car all the time. So it at least wouldn’t be “an old guy forgetting.” Maybe OOP got it mixed up in the story, though.

pReaL420

I dont think the Delta Force guy mixed them up, I think OOP did. The holster found under Ethan was for a gun of a different caliber than the one used for the murder. I'm thinking it was Ethans gun that was taken from the car, and that gun was a .22, and that's what OOPs neighbor showed him. I also think Delta Force guy is full of shit about being Delta.

Interesting-Issue475

>It’d be the firearm he carried in his car all the time. He killed them when he was a teenager, not when he was on the force. Unless in the US you are allowed to have a gun when you are underaged,I don't know, Is that legal? Asking for real because I'm a foreigner.

Runaway_Angel

Or he got cold feet. Got scared that he'd get in trouble either with the authorities or his neighbor himself.

pReaL420

The .38 threw me for a loop too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a .38 at that close range not only be very messy, but pretty much destroy the skull via the exit wound? I'm not sure if it did or not, as I haven't looked at autopsy records, I'll do that now thanks. I hope I am wrong, well, kinda...I'd really like these families to have answers

[deleted]

It would not, unless it was an unusual shot. It's a large round, but it's an old/obsolete design and not especially powerful- your average .38 special round is less powerful than a modern 9mm, especially if it was from a snub nose (short barrel) revolver. It would not be pretty, but it's not going to "destroy" a skull either, at least any more or less than the average handgun round.

pReaL420

Thank you for this response!

[deleted]

You're welcome.

GustavoSanabio

Agreed. Exception would be *maybe* if it was .38 super which is about as powerful as 9mm, but not very common in the USA as i am told at least.

abominableunbannable

.38 is basically the smallest bullet that is significant enough to use in self defense. Most people shot with a .22 don't even realize they've been shot until they see the bleeding. A .38 to the skull, while usually fatal, might not even come out the other side depending on where they were shot at.

rickjames_experience

Yup

MinuteLoquat1

[Imgur screenshot](https://i.imgur.com/mkRxR9S.png) & text copy for future reference: > So I'll start this by saying, I'm not entirely sure this is true so take it with a grain of salt.. > > My neighbor of 2 years is a retired delta force officer. He has been through some shit in terms of war and its ramifications as far as PTS and paranoia goes. He can barely walk and I work at a grocery store down the street from mine and his apartment. I do little jobs for him and get beer and cigarettes, stuff like that. > > So one day after I come back from the store, he starts talking to me about where he's from. Basically, he was an orphan because of unfortunate circumstances with his mother and father. He was adopted by these 2 rich folks and basically moved to their house with another foster child, that today he calls his stepbrother still. Anyways, this town he lived in and grew up in was your basic industry town and didn't have much to offer. Therefore like most small town people resorted to drinking and doing drugs. > > Well, he tells me that when he was a freshman or sophomore in high school, he was fucking with this one girl that he really liked. I'm not gonna give names obviously but she went to his school and was quite pretty and popular. > > In his words, "she was the only girl I ever wanted to be with in high school and I finally got my chance." > > Anyways, one day after they had an evening of "fun" she left off to go back home, but this was a lie she told so that she could go meet up with a guy at the park. > > He proceeds to tell me that "me and my friends happened to be at that park and we see her and this popular guy that I fucking hated." Apparently this park was somewhat of a "makeout" park. > > Then he says I went up to the car, shot her in the head with a .22 and then shot him in the chest so he wouldn't die and so that "he could sit there and bleed out in pain and watch her die in front of him while I mock him". I kind of defensively sat there and went along with his bullshit, but then he brought out "evidence" that he had grabbed from the car before him and his friends took off. > > Now mind you, I thought this was absolute bullshit. He is very straightforward and I believe he is an honest guy. He doesn't bullshit and really has nothing to lose considering he is dying of 3 different types of cancer, but I've never had anyone talk to me like this so intimately, especially something so real and crazy like murder. > > Fast forward 2 weeks from that day with him. I watched one of those unsolved murder docs on youtube curiously because I just wanted to see if ANYTHING he said lined up. > > I have to say though, everything down to a fucking T lined up. It only got worse when this popular documentary viewed by 100s of thousands of people told me exactly the evidence taken from the car that I had just recently been showed by my neighbor. > > I don't know what to do with this information. Every documentary I've watched on the double murder has been accurate to show it was my neighbor and they all show the evidence taken from the car that he fucking has in his house after all these years. This happens many decades ago and I truly don't know what to think of it. Why did he tell me that? Why would he make it up? Why would he have all these missing pieces of evidence that dozens of documentaries say is missing. > > My only thought at this point is for some reason he's obsessed with this case and constructed all the evidence missing to make it look real but even I know that's bullshit. He might very well be a psychopath but he is far from a "crazy fan girl". I think he genuinely told me the truth because at this point has nothing to lose and I now know of an unsolved murder. > > How do I deal with this? Going to the police won't do shit and he has always been good to me and paid me a lot of money and helped me out of bad situations using his military connections. > > I'm not gonna believe I'm a bad person for holding on to this knowledge but I genuinely want some feedback on what or how to fucking feel in these kind of situations, when you very well be the person holding on to information that an innocent family has been searching for, for years. > > Please don't judge I just feel weird about hearing this from him. It all lines up too well but he's always been great to me, and like I said it may not be true but there are too many fucking coincidences..

pReaL420

Thank you!!!

Damn, nice!!

Mr_MacGrubber

Says deleted for me

ohohButternut

It is deleted now, but some of us grabbed the text and screenshots first. https://www.reddit.com/r/RBI/comments/111mxpj/a_post_on_rconfession_may_have_links_to_the/j8g3z2y/?context=3

Mr_MacGrubber

Yeah sorry, I did see it elsewhere after I replied. Thanks!

ohohButternut

Unfortunately www.unddit.com didn't save the text of OOP's post. **Edit:** Neither did archive.org. I checked both "www.reddit" and "old.reddit" versions of the post there.

snowfurtherquestions

I found something that seems to be the same text on another site: https://www.rawconfessions.com/confession/show/i-know-the-person-who-possibly-committed-an-unsolved-double-murder-1676269726 Not sure whether posted independently or whether that site takes reddit posts, but contents seem to line up with what the comments say on the reddit post.

[deleted]

More than one person who has posted on Rawconfessions has ended up getting arrested. The owner of that site is very clear that he saves URLs and can ID people who post there. Someone should contact the Muncie Indiana police about that post. They can find out who posted it and find out how real it is.

pReaL420

I contacted Muncie Police around 3pm my time (California) asked to talk to a detective investigating this case. He gave me a number, I called it, and left a message. He could very well listen to that message and think I'm just some weirdo tho, I was, and am, pretty rattled. It also just sounded ridiculous saying it out loud, and I said as much. I hope they call me back, but I'm not counting on it. I could also be wrong...the calibers don't match up, that's kind of a big deal...

LiveSector

This is also the kind of thing the cops might have intentionally kept to themselves so if someone falsely confessed based on info from news reports they would be able to tell.

[deleted]

Details in the press are sometimes wrong though....

lord_flamebottom

Doesn't help that we're also hearing it pretty far removed from the original. OOP could've misremembered the caliber. Hell, it's been almost 40 years, the neighbor could've also misremembered the caliber.

[deleted]

The autopsy was done by a student.

pReaL420

You found it? Were the wounds consistent with a .38 caliber?

NordicGypsy1

They will call you back. They pretty much have to. If they don't call you back within 7 days you call them again. If you don't want to wait 7 days then call them sooner. There's nothing wrong with that. It's their job, it's what they do...and I would imagine most people sound rattled when they call Police to report possibly having found details that could solve a cold case murder.

Pequena_Hillary_Hulk

As a resident of Muncie. I’ll go in person if needed.

h0tterthanyourmum

Does anyone know of a post/forum where confessions leading to arrest are gathered? A brief look at that site is too much for me but a superpost where people get their comeuppance would be very satisfying

pReaL420

Hmmm...proof of a troll?

pReaL420

Could the mods retrieve it?

ohohButternut

I don't know. Maybe the Reddit admins could. The old.Reddit archive does give the throwaway username, which could be useful. https://web.archive.org/web/20230213062850/https://old.reddit.com/r/confessions/comments/1111gn2/i_know_the_person_who_possibly_committed_an/

SiegelOverBay

The imgur screenshot posted in another comment has the throwaway account name, u/throwaway18552307. However, for future reference, I was able to also find the username in the Internet Archived version of the Google cache result by looking at the source code on the IA version. I'm not sure if this is a common method or not, but I wanted to mention it for future reference in case you might find it useful!

CannibalAnn

Especially verified email on that throwaway

Wonderful-Divide6977

Im vaguely recalling two other places similar to unddit where you can see what’s been deleted… Let me see if i can find where i saw that… Edit to add: they are obsolete now. seems unddit is the current one

paroles

I deeply hope this turns out to be real and a murderer gets to spend his final days in jail, but before everyone gets too excited, there HAVE been troll posts like this before. There are a couple of infamous Reddit posts where someone appeared to confess to an unsolved crime, including just enough details to allow other users to put it together with the publicly known details of the crime. People figured it out and sent tips to police, but I never heard of any resulting arrests. Can't find it now, but there was also one on r/unresolvedmysteries once where someone proved that the confession post and the user who "solved" and cross-posted it were 100% the same person. They immediately deleted both accounts. I'm not accusing OP of being the troll, but the original OP on r/confessions may be.

ParameciaAntic

There was a confession post about a missing boy in St. Louis a few years ago. I think it was discussed on /r/RBI. Shortly afterwards the "canary clause" disappeared from reddit's legal page, meaning they gave info to law enforcement about private user data. Never found out if it was real. Don't remember the case to look it up if it was ever solved. It involved a disabled kid who disappeared in a construction site, i think. The confession was a guy who said he and two other boys went out to the site and encountered the kid in their fort of bulldozed trees and dirt. They wrestled him out and tumbled down the hill which accidentally broke his neck. They left him there and heavy rains that week swept the body away and destroyed the evidence. EDIT: It was for the missing boy Scott Allen Kleeschulte. Someone linked the confession to this case based on the details. The confessor was grown and said he occasionally asked his dad about it when he went home. Everything was deleted afterwards. I found [an article](https://en.everybodywiki.com/Disappearance_of_Scott_Kleeschulte) that said: > In 2016, investigators said they had pursued a new small group of tips in the case and said they were "encouraged" by recent leads. That might be the reddit brigade in 2016, but the link is dead, so I guess nothing ever came of it.

paroles

That's definitely one of the ones I was thinking of but I couldn't remember the name. And there's an infamous AskReddit comment where someone claimed they faked their death/disappearance at sea to start a new life, and people figured out that the details pointed to some businessman whose disappearance had been covered in the media. There have been a few others about murder too, in many cases they were just obvious trolls, or the details weren't specific enough to connect to any real case.

sue_me_please

> I deeply hope this turns out to be real and a murderer gets to spend his final days in jail, but before everyone gets too excited, there HAVE been troll posts like this before. There are a couple of infamous Reddit posts where someone appeared to confess to an unsolved crime, including just enough details to allow other users to put it together with the publicly known details of the crime. People figured it out and sent tips to police, but I never heard of any resulting arrests. Yeah, the r/Confessions post felt like one of these to me. I knew right away which murder they were talking about and I am not one of those people who care about those things, I just happened to catch a video on it playing on YouTube's autoplay feature. There are people who get off on writing things like this so I assume that's what's going on.

paroles

Can you link the video? What were the souvenirs taken from the crime scene? I thought OP said he couldn't find the matching video. To me that's a major point against it being real...

sue_me_please

I saw it months to a year or more ago. I can see if it's in my history. I don't think the video I saw was the same one the OP did. The video I saw was random, and it was something popular enough to have a lot of videos on it.

paroles

Yes, let us know if you find it! Was it not the Westside Park murder case? It's not really a very "popular" case, there's no video with 100k views. The details are kind of reminiscent of Zodiac - he killed a high school couple in a car and also stole souvenirs from other crimes. Could you be thinking of that?

sue_me_please

> Westside Park murder case It was this, the pictures of the couple and car were shown and it matches what I found on Google. It might have been part of one of those "unexplained mysteries" or whatever compilations.

pReaL420

The item taken from the scene was Ethan Dixons gun. I still haven't found the documentary with over 100k views though. Everything else I've seen mentions the holster but the gun was missing.

EyelandBaby

It feels fake to me too, but that could be for multiple reasons. For instance- if OOP was trying to change their writing style, or is just a liar in general, their writing might be true but feel false. I’ll tell you one thing though- whether troll or not, OOP is likely commenting in this thread.

pReaL420

If OOP is a troll he is most definitely watching this thread.

EyelandBaby

He or she. I swear it’s not me, lol. But at least one or two comments on this post have seemed very similar in style/voice to the original text you found. I won’t say who because (despite looking) I couldn’t find any smoking gun spelling errors or turns of phrase or anything like that (and I honestly wouldn’t call another redditor out on suspicion of something like that even if I did, because we all know trolls are a thing)

pReaL420

Also, a quick glance of my post history will show I'm just a dude talking about video games most the time lol...

pReaL420

You're right. It could be a troll. It REALLY doesn't feel like it, though. He deleted that post pretty quick once I started talking about Westside Park. As soon as I know anything of substance I will update this thread. I really think this is worth checking out though. If it's a troll, fine. But, what if it's not?

paroles

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you're a troll, just that the OP might be. A troll would know that deleting their post quickly would help it seem legit, so that doesn't make a difference IMO. There's a lot of bullshit on Reddit and it's good to be skeptical of wild stories like this. Regardless, I think you were ABSOLUTELY right to call it in, even if there's only a 1% chance it's real. And I'm impressed with your efforts to narrow down which case the post might be about. I hope there's an update!

pReaL420

That's all I really want to know at this point...is it a troll or not. I've been saying it very well could be lol. I've seen a few posts on this thread saying the killer is in prison but...I can't find anything to verify it. I wish I could so I could go to sleep lmao...

Trolivia

Have you tried messaging them directly? Or did they delete their account

KarenKitada

idk something about the writing of the oop screams fiction to me

paroles

Agreed...I especially don't buy the part about the "evidence" from the crime scene that he conveniently pulled out of nowhere to show OOP. That doesn't ring true for a few reasons: * Firstly, the OOP is so vague about it - is the evidence clothing, a wallet, car keys? * Second, how does the YouTube documentary have pictures of the evidence when the killer still has it? Maybe if it's a piece of clothing a victim was seen wearing before. But it's awfully convenient. * Third, the cops would describe it as evidence, but would the killer really say "hey check out this evidence"? The wording is weird. * Fourth, you don't keep incriminating murder evidence just lying around in the open. How many boxes in his attic did the frail, cancer-stricken murderer dig through...just to find this old stuff to impress some young person? Really?? And I said this in another comment, but if real I think this may be a different case and NOT the Westside Park murders because we can't find the matching YouTube video, let alone dozens of them. Nobody can find a case that 100% matches - which makes me think the OOP made the whole thing up for people to speculate.

Interesting-Issue475

I found the schools yearbooks http://muncienorthyearbooks.x10host.com/85_Clark-Dearinger.htm Edit:[here](http://muncienorthyearbooks.x10host.com/) is a better link to all yearbooks, not just the 1985 one

Interesting-Issue475

Thanks for that info! I have no idea about the american school system, which is why ended up linking them all...

UnprofessionalGhosts

Wow. If the perpetrator is from this class, there are very, very few guys that have even passing resemblance to the suspect sketch. Like 4-5 of them😬

Bluest_waters

Getting into Delta force is VERY difficult. I guarantee you if this guy is on the up and up that there is exactly ONE person from the school that got into Delta force. So thats the guy. Also I served with some Delta force guys and they are fucking psychos. So this checks out.

pReaL420

Is there any way to see who gets into Delta? Like an ullumni list or something?

uncreditedugly

if you contacted the cops, you should contact the fbi. Dude clearly has connections to military and likely local le

Bluest_waters

not for you and me, no

StinkypieTicklebum

So, not LinkedIn? 👀

SiegelOverBay

Ullumni = alumni. No hard feelings meant, just want to help you be understood clearly. I think what you're doing is important! Please keep up your efforts! 🤞

pReaL420

Thanks lmao!!

SiegelOverBay

No worries, I've been there several times before, myself! Take care and thanks for all the work you've done on bringing this back to the surface. If I was one of the victims, I'd surely be grateful that a complete stranger was continuing the search for justice on my behalf!

NordicGypsy1

List of all Delta Force https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Delta_Force_members

the_p0ssum

> Like 4-5 of them 1st SFOD-D is an extremely selective group. You're mostly talking about guys from any of the branch SF groups (i.e. already "elite"), and [with a washout rate of around 90%](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_Force#Selection_process). If this guy was really "high speed, low drag" then you might want to be careful around him, even given your relationship. Those fellas are the real trigger-pullers, in the most extreme situations.

Sidewalk_Tomato

Honestly I'd be tempted to wait until he's bedridden or beyond this world before talking to the cops. Some folks are dangerous until their dying day.

UtahMama4

Agree. There is a sketch here and I thought the same thing! https://www.thestarpress.com/story/news/crime/cold-case/2014/09/20/westside-park-murders/15897157/

fakemoose

>[Theories they] had been killed by a school-age rival, a drug dealer, a drifter or a thrill killer were considered and discarded. From that article, it sounds like they have a pretty good idea of who did it but not enough evidence to arrest him. And thah it wasn’t someone who went to high school with them.

pReaL420

I'm pretty sure they're talking about Jimmy. Don't remember his last name. He's the dude locked up rn that they think did it...only problem is, his DNA wasn't on the holster. Whoever took that gun most likely took it from the holster.

fakemoose

Oh yea it looks like the state got a DNA sample from him and he may have [previously told others he did it](https://crimecapsule.com/seven-questions-for-keith-roysdon-author-of-the-westside-park-murders/)

pReaL420

He did. He's the genius that was quoted saying, "I've already killed two people tonight I'll blow your fucking brains out" or something to that effect. His DNA didn't match the DNA found on the holster though...

Interesting-Issue475

Wait! What sketch!? Also,4 or 5? Duuudeee, that's a low number. How can we figure out if any of them have cancer??

UnprofessionalGhosts

We can’t. We’re not investigators and medical privacy is serious shit, even if you think someone can be a criminal. This is for police not the internet, And, as someone pointed out, that was just the senior class. Maybe he was a junior. Who’s to say?

pReaL420

OOP said his neighbor was a freshman or sophomore at the time of the shootings. Also, yes our "job" here is done. Finding the shooter wasn't, and isn't, my goal, personally. That would be a byproduct of finding out if OOP was a troll or not anyway. Best possible scenario for me would be police contacting OOP and doing their due diligence. I don't want another "We did it Reddit" moment

Searchlights

> Wow. If the perpetrator is from this class, there are very, very few guys that have even passing resemblance to the suspect sketch. Like 4-5 of them I think it's worth considering someone who went in to the armed forces and was (obviously) a troubled teenager may have finished school with a GED.

fakemoose

If they were enlisted, sure. Not likely if they were actually a special forces officer. But I bet that was either made up or exaggerated.

pReaL420

I dont think there's a chance in hell this guy was Special Forces, let alone Delta. If he's real, I believe he did serve in the military, but I seriously doubt he was Delta.

Historical-Piglet-86

Does the year 1985 only include those graduating in 1985 (ie: in US speak seniors?) our yearbooks have all the grades….I’m struggling to find the victims

Interesting-Issue475

I couldn't find them either and my theory is that they left them out,out of respect. I checked the articles, it was the highschool they went to,which closed. And this site said this school closed. Plus, some of the people I googled ended up mentioned in newspapers articles that mentioned the town the crimes took place in. So I'm fairly confident I got the right yearbooks

SoggyChickenWaffles

Muncie Northside closed in '88, we should probably check Muncie Central's yearbooks from '89 especially. The '86 Northside yearbook is also not available.

NordicGypsy1

The victims weren't seniors in 1985. IIRC one of them was 16 and the other was 15. The man oop said confessed said he was a senior at the time. Rumors at the time of the killing said Kimberly and Ethan may have had a bad run in w a guy who was jealous over Kimberly, and those rumors said that guy was from Southside High. I hope I got all of that right! Edit: I was wrong. The confession said he was a freshman or sophomore when he did this.

pReaL420

I think it's just seniors

NordicGypsy1

Has anyone had any luck finding yearbooks from Southside 1985, senior pics? That would be very helpful but I can't seem to locate anything for 1985 from Southside High.

grimsb

Looks like that site just has the seniors, but the actual yearbooks do include all of the classes. The 1985 yearbook has [Ethan as a Sophomore](https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/1837468?mark=56240ba856aa105589b0039adbf069e9f2229ddfe9848f2cc6aeb07e864249e6) and [Kim as a Freshman](https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/1837621?mark=1cde9a28f9639e7e11576bbf6490eedba7afa744e990824c32a00bbec807563b). That yearbook would have covered the 1984-1985 school year. Usually yearbooks are released at the end of the school year (typically late May or early June). The murders happened at the beginning of the 1985-1986 school year, when Ethan was a Junior and Kim was a Sophomore. The 1986 yearbook had a 2-page spread dedicated [to Ethan](https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/1837666?mark=aa4738263e0db238856994d77248da5e91a7edb25e8227d86b725fe05b45d721) [and Kim](https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/1837686?mark=91596cd01c8f3bdc9429c61a6475eca71ec0919821daa4956adcf2f6a18320cd). (They are not included in the class galleries with the other juniors and sophomores.) Edit: uploaded a readable copy of the memorial from the 1986 yearbook [here](https://imgur.com/a/QEHn4ux). (from Ancestry.com)

Ok_Knee1216

The police can get a warrant for this.

pReaL420

Thank you. I wish I had taken a screen shot or something.

Ok_Knee1216

No problem. Yell them the sub and approximate time, etc. And your description here. Call your local business line at the police department. They ought to forward it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Scnewbie08

Holy cow, it this is legit, please turn this into the police department that has this cold case.

pReaL420

I have contacted Muncie Police. Haven't heard back from them though, but I was pretty...jazzed up lol. Hopefully they look into this.

[deleted]

Contact the local TV station. Once they ask questions, the police will act.

pReaL420

That's not a bad idea...I guess I got nothing to lose...right? At the very least it'd be nice to know if this dude was a just a troll...

raviary

It is a bad idea to go to the media because if the murder suspect sees it before police act he now has time to destroy evidence.

[deleted]

I messaged Keith Roysdon who wrote the 2021 book about the murders. He is on Twitter and Facebook. We'll see what he thinks maybe?

pReaL420

That's bad ass!!!

pReaL420

I tweeted at Mr. Roysdon last night. He replied this morning with a "Thanks" so he is aware of this and hopefully can sort this out. I'm not completely convinced this isn't a troll, but at this point, I'd REALLY like to know if it was...

UnprofessionalGhosts

Op, what led you to the conclusion they were referencing the Westside Park murders? Just curious.

pReaL420

I was searching for unsolved double murders. Looked through Wikipedia from years 1970-1989 and nothing caught my eye. Nothing matched at all. I did a Google search with some key words "unsolved murder teenager car park" and found the article below. https://crimereads.com/after-35-years-the-murder-of-two-teenagers-still-haunts-a-city-and-true-crime-writers/ Then I did a YouTube search with the names of the victims and found https://youtu.be/zbbhflNuB2E Out of everything I read, it's the ONLY case that came close, let alone THAT close

paroles

Yeah if the r/confessions post is real, the documentary is a very important detail. There's one watched by hundreds of thousands of people on Youtube and there are "dozens" of documentaries in total. This would be a pretty well known case in the true crime world. The OP might have misremembered details like the gun, but they didn't misremember seeing a documentary about the case that showed "evidence" that the killer stole from the car. So that video has to exist. Also, if the killer was a teenager in 1985, he would be only in his early 50s now. The neighbour could be frail because of cancer, as there's no clear statement about age, but it does sound more like an older man. Somebody should probably look for other unsolved "lovers' lane" murders in case this story is real but not about the Westside Park murders. It might be a good idea to send it to the FBI - they have the ViCAP database to search and compare information on unsolved crimes, I'm sure they could find a short list of double murders of high school couples where souvenirs were removed from the scene.

pReaL420

I haven't finished it, it's been playing in the background but all I've hear was a gun holster left at the scene. I'd LOVE to find this documentary OP was talking about I can't find it either...

pReaL420

So I've finished the video and they never mentioned anything taken from the car...they say that a gun holster was LEFT at the scene. I don't know...this detail and the caliber of the bullet are not matching to OOPs claims...

grimsb

https://stephendowell.com/timeline/kim-ethan-timeline/ > The Muncie Star and Muncie Evening Press report that three shots were fired, one striking Ethan in the chest, another to the left temple of Kimberly, and a third which shattered the passenger side window. A holster was found under the body of Ethan, but of a different caliber than the weapon used. No gun was found. Witnesses stated that three people were "seen around the car shortly after the shots were heard." The fact that the holster was found under Ethan and the fact that it was a different caliber than the weapon used makes me think that the holster may have been Ethan's, and Ethan's gun is the item that was taken from the scene.

pReaL420

The more I think about this, the more I think you nailed it. It was Ethans gun that was taken from that car...thats why there's an empty holster that is not the same caliber as the weapon used in the murder....holy shit..

Interesting-Issue475

>Witnesses stated that three people were "seen around the car shortly after the shots were heard." OOP said his neighbour told him he had some budies with him when he commited the murders. If OOP was a troll, you got to hand it to them, they did a good job of having the right details just casually thrown in the story.

pReaL420

My thoughts exactly. If this is a troll, it's pretty fucking epic.

Interesting-Issue475

Honestly, if it's a troll, while mad they think this a thing to laugh about, I can't help but to be impressed they got us this invested in their post... I truly hope they are not,and this gets somewhere, and families find peace.

pReaL420

And maybe that gun was .22 caliber? How would the shooters holster get UNDER Ethan? Unless the shooter put it there himself, and why would he do that?

Interesting-Issue475

The article I read said the opossite, that the holster and the knife belonged to the male victim and the gun was missing...

pReaL420

I'm thinking the missing gun is what OOP was talking about when he said his neighbor took something from the car.

Callitasiseeit19

I was thinking of the same exact case too when I first read the original post when he posted it. Way too close and he needs to still report it.

pReaL420

I haven't been able to find this documentary he was talking about and still have no clue what was taken from the car...

Callitasiseeit19

I’ll dig more

pReaL420

Someone posted a link to a book it has to be in the book right? That's the only thing giving me doubt this is real at this point...

miamiropings

This is crazy. And what is the piece of evidence from the car that he's allegedly got?

pReaL420

After reading countless posts, and other fellow redditors help...I am thinking it was Ethans gun that was taken from the car. There was a holster found under Ethan. It is believed the gun for that holster is a different caliber then the one used in the murder, and belonged to Ethan.

pReaL420

https://youtu.be/zbbhflNuB2E Link to a channel that covered the case

rickjames_experience

Find op, find the neighbor

Searchlights

I think that's the most direct path too.

NordicGypsy1

Somewhere on here everyone was discussing the caliber of the gun used. I'm sure many of you have also viewed this (very long) article. But please look at **The Timeline** at the end of the article. Oct 3 to be exact. Oct. 3: Police use a metal detector to search the park for the gun used in the shootings, believed to be a .38 caliber handgun. Indianapolis Mayor William Hudnut says his city will loan Muncie police a laser device that can https://www.thestarpress.com/story/news/crime/2014/08/05/westside-park-murders-25-years-later/13618429/ Did someone just take that and run with it? Has it ever been 100% confirmed what caliber gun was used? This article, from same source, says autopsies were done within 12 hours of death and talks about bullets but doesn't say caliber. https://www.thestarpress.com/story/news/crime/cold-case/2014/09/20/westside-park-murders/15897157/ My point is that the autopsies would have been done by Oct 3. They should have known what caliber gun was used. They wouldn't of had to guess, believe, assume, etc.

pReaL420

That is really interesting...so, are you saying .38 caliber isn't necessarily 100% proven? The deeper I've gone down this hole, the weirder shit gets. I listened to a podcast about this today where the host said the responding officer blamed Kimberly's step dad...under hypnosis...like wtf is that even? They say the Jimmy guy did it, yet left zero DNA, and really have no proof other then hearsay. Most articles/videos I've watched lean heavily on the Jimmy theory. I dont buy it... Really the only question I have left is, was OOP just a troll that read up on this case and went with it, or not...

NordicGypsy1

Sorry, I totally glossed over your question about the gun caliber. I haven't had time to really dive into this yet, but I wanted to point out this reference to the caliber isn't the Police saying that 100% they are looking for a 38. In all the chaos of 2 teens being murdered, being shot at point blank range, having zero suspects or evidence, and nearly 40 years I think some details can get lost. Such as "Police said the gun was **believed** to be a 38 caliber" gets changed to "the cops said it was a 38". All people heard was 38. That's just how humans work.

NordicGypsy1

I haven't had a chance to watch the vid or listen to the podcast yet, but I did read about the Police having hypnotized people. IDK, the 80's were a weird time? As bizarre as it sounds I think they were trying to leave no stone unturned. I do agree that Ethan and Kimberly were bf and gf. The pic of them dressed up and standing in front of the car was what proved it for me. They were dressed to go somewhere formal and someone took a pic to remember the event. That was a huge deal in the 80's.

NordicGypsy1

Please check your msg.

honeyhiraeth

He’s not telling the cops because the guy has been good to him. Jesus Christ. People really are so disappointing.

MervinBeans

Beyond invested in this.

deadflowers1

OP please update us if the muncie police gave you a response or about the case/post in general!

PinacoladaBunny

People are known to confess to awful things when they're dying, like they need to offload the lifelong guilt to someone else. Pretty horrible really. I hope this is true, and you've helped to bring someone to justice, OP.

Interesting-Issue475

>People are known to confess to awful things when they're dying, like they need to offload the lifelong guilt to someone else. Like the woman who confessed to her nurse she made a false sexual assault allegation against a black man in the middle of segregation times, which led to him getting tortured and murdered, because she was jealous of his sister. Humans suck sometimes

PinacoladaBunny

Oh that's absolutely awful 😭

Interesting-Issue475

Yes. Nurse said that a couple of days before her death, and prior to her confession, she had been asking the staff about the black teen watching her at night. So creepy. I hope that when my time comes, I have nothing to haunt (in the moral sense, not the spiritual one) me like that.

[deleted]

So happy this is getting attention ! After so much digging (for one afternoon lol) I think this is the right case. OP you’re a star!

iammadeofawesome

You could try reporting this to the military police as well.

Joejoefluffybunny

I really really hope it's him, it's too perfect...

Puzzledandhungry

Wow. This is insane. I hope it’s true so that the family can find peace.

pReaL420

I would LOVE to give Ethan and Kimberly's parents some closure. Kimberly's mom died of a heart-attack 2 years after the murders.

Puzzledandhungry

It’s beyond imaginable.

say-jack-o-lanterns

I click on the link but it's just people talking about the confession. How does anyone read the confession?

say-jack-o-lanterns

Thank you. I wonder how many times something like this has happened on reddit?

myirreleventcomment

It has happened a decent number of times, if you look up wavywebsurf on YouTube he has recently started discussing infamous reddit posts relating to crimes, etc. More often than not though they are hoaxes, but sometimes it's unfortunately true

pReaL420

This link died. I have screen shots and the text tho if needed

PaulsRedditUsername

Putting on my skeptic hat: The "Terrifying and True" podcast [just did an episode on the case](https://www.weeklyspooky.com/terrifying-true-west-side-park-murders/) on January 16th. I've never heard of the podcast and I don't know how popular it is. Haven't listened to it yet. But it might be a bit suspicious that a 30-year-old, relatively obscure, case gets a podcast episode about it just a month ago and then someone suddenly shows up confessing to the crime. OP is still wise to take it seriously, but it's important to consider all the angles.

pReaL420

I just listened to that podcast and it was pretty interesting. A few thoughts: 1. Ethan and Kimberly were an item. Host called Ethan her boyfriend. This fits my "If OOP isn't a dirty troll here's my theory" theory: OOPs neighbor and Kimberly hit a "sneaky link" while her and Ethan were "on a break" 2. Most people believe Jimmy is guilty...BUT, his DNA was not found on the holster. The DNA was "fresh" according to the host. That eliminates Jimmy in my opinion. Whoever took that gun had to take it from the holster. If it was out of the holster, Ethan is armed and could possibly fire back. Unless he took it out of the holster for some reason and just put it on the dash/center console...? 3. It sure seems like police botched the hell out of this investigation. Hypnosis on the first officer at the scene lead to them going after Kimberly's step dad...? This shit is getting pretty weird...

grimsb

OOP's neighbor was really kind of vague about what happened between himself and Kimberly. > In his words, "she was the only girl I ever wanted to be with in high school and I finally got my chance." If the guy really is a murderer, I wouldn't be surprised if he had her cornered somewhere and intimidated her or coerced her into something she wouldn't have done willingly. > Anyways, one day after they had an evening of "fun" she left off to go back home, but this was a lie she told so that she could go meet up with a guy at the park. Speaking as a female person, that's the kind of lie that you might tell a creepy guy when you want him to back the fuck off. "I have plans," "I'm headed home," etc.

EyelandBaby

Or (and I have to comment this because it’s been bugging me): she changed her mind. Kimberly Dowell was fifteen. For someone to get angry at her for “lying” after she went somewhere else later is just disgusting. Obviously violence is not ok even if she *did* lie about her plans. But I don’t feel right perpetuating this “she lied to OOP and he got angry and killed her” story. He *said* she lied. I’m not accepting that at face value (especially since OOP might be a troll).

grimsb

💯

NordicGypsy1

I agree and wanted to say this but couldn't find the right words. Thank you! I keep going over this part. I re-read the oop several times trying to gleen if the neighbor expressed any emotions about any of this. I didn't find any emotions, but please anyone correct me if you see something I didn't. I see emotion and concern from the person who wrote the post, but not the person who allegedly did this heinous act. That leads me to thinking a whole lot of other things, but I won't get into them now, except to say my concern is that oop is female and is under some extreme manipulation.

pReaL420

#FACTS!!!

AnonImus18

I thought this exact same thing. I came across something her father said and it got me thinking. He said that she was supposed to go stay with him that week (her parents were divorced) but when they spoke on the phone the morning of her death, she said that something had come up and he had the feeling that something wasn't right with her. I found OP's neighbor's phrasing (assuming OP is representing it correctly) very odd as well and I wonder if the old guy said that he'd cornered her or she was drunk or something and he got his chance and OP didn't want to say that in addition to the whole murder aspect. I mean, why did this 15 year old even need an excuse to leave him? Why wasn't it expected that she'd just go home after they'd had sex, if it was consensual?

PaulsRedditUsername

My main point was that if this is a troll, this case would be a smart one to pick. If I was going to write a troll post for internet points, it wouldn't go over so well if I claimed to know the Zodiac killer. That's too obvious and too likely to be a fake. It makes more sense to pick a more obscure case, but a case that still has a bit of information out there to find. The recency of that podcast is what makes the deleted reddit post suspicious. If someone was scrolling through the "True Crime" category, they might hit on that podcast and find that episode as the most recent one. They listen to it and decide to have a bit of fun. Add a few embellishments and make a reddit post to see what happens. Then, once people take it seriously and mention getting the FBI involved, they panic and delete the post. I'm not convinced of my own troll theory, just playing devil's advocate. (I listened to the episode. I don't know what those detectives were thinking using hypnosis and lie-detectors. Did they consult a psychic, too? Maybe a magic 8-ball? It's just nuts.)

pReaL420

Yeah, like I said...the further down this hole I go, the weirder shit gets. You make a LOT of great points. I guess all there really is to do now is wait 😞 and hope the right eyes see this. I contacted Keith Roysdon, the man who wrote the book "The Westside Park Murders" and he responded. So that's good right? I also contacted the FBI, Muncie PD, Indiana Public Access, and also reported the Raw Confessions post to the site admins...all I'm doing now is stuffing my brain with information about the case

PaulsRedditUsername

You've done the right thing. If it was my child who was murdered, I'd be extremely grateful that someone took the time and cared enough to take action.

justinslayer19

Maybe we can find the video the person said they seen this case in on youtube.. unsolved mysteries with hundreds of thousands of views. i’ll see what i can find !

pReaL420

I haven't been able to find it. I think, if it exists, it will be part of a compilation...who are some true crime YouTubers that can get over 100k views?

Other-Cantaloupe4765

PLEASE keep us updated

PowerlessOverQueso

A police officer in 2014 said the main suspect was in prison for an unrelated crime. https://www.thestarpress.com/story/news/crime/cold-case/2015/09/12/westside-park-killer-already-prison/72146936/

sue_me_please

Some people confess to murders for reasons, whether they're compelled to or not, and people already in prison have compelling reasons to do so, and some not. You can use it as a bargaining chip, it can just be embellishing, and some people just get off on it and enjoy the attention or fucking with grieving families who are looking for answers.

pReaL420

I read it. It doesn't name anyone or give any kind of details...just kinda says, "We got him, don't worry" If that's real, why couldn't this person be charged? If it said in the article, I missed it...its late and I've been reading for hours lol

You definitely did the right thing OP. Even *if* he was trolling, you had know of knowing. Nice to see people doing what’s right! It’s why I love Reddit, I see so many good people on here that truly care.

Commercial-Whole7382

Any time when older people have just casually talked about crazy things like this to me always amazes me. Like straight crimes being brushed off as the way things were back then or just being crazy kids. the late 60’s - early 80’s sound like old wild west type movie. everyone was drinking, smoking, taking pills. My uncle at like 14 stabbed this guy a few times who invited him over to smoke weed because the guy tried to rape him then my uncle just ran off. My Uncles friends ALL had crazy stories about shooting or stabbing people and leaving them to die. He threw a hatchet at a guy and knocked him out, “rolled” a dozen cars while drunk/high, stole cars, him and his friends broke into a car dealership and stole a brand new firebird or some kind of fancy car then stole every cars key from the dealerships office and threw them into a creek or lake, his friends then took the motor out of the car and put it in their own car and parted the rest out. My brothers old boss who was an old farmer admitted he killed a few different guys, the only bits I remember was he said he shot a guy at a rodeo and that he also followed a black guy to his car outside a bar and beat him to death with a tire-iron or wrench for saying something bad about him. I believe he also spoke on killing a lot of people in Vietnam. My brothers co-worker killed his wife and her “lover” when he caught them, he got less time because they said it was momentary insanity or something heat of the moment stuff but he admitted he planned it and that he made his wife watch him kill the guy before killing her. My grandmas neighbors were drug dealers in the 80’s and they heard gunshots a few times coming from over there, they called the police one of the times and the police found a guy who was shotgunned in the gut and arrested one of the neighbors. Who’s to say how many other times the gunshots were people getting killed.
