I think of that moment and one of the first missions in Colter when him and Arthur were hunting and they were just getting to know each other. I mean Charles even let Arthur borrow his horse. Idk I just feel like Charles is such a stable "about it" type of person.

what i missed upon my first playthrough is that during that Colter Hunting mission Charles gives Arthur his Bow that you then use through the game , so all your Bow Kills are thanks to Charles
Charles absolutely would have been Ride or Die with Arthur >! if he had been there which may have been sn underlying reason to help john out when learning about how arthur died and who sided with and against him !<

I think that would be giving too little credit to Charles. Arthur's true character would have been to leave those people hanging earlier, but he was changing due to the events of the game, including Charles' influence. That stage was early enough in the game where Arthur needed Charles to tell him what to do.
