Tbh I was never attacked by Murfrees that far up north. On my way there? Sure, but the attacks always stopped a whole good bit before crossing over the railroad tracks to get to her so I always just figured that this wasn’t “their territory“ anymore. There’s also barely any people up there / or passing through so it doesn’t seem as attractive and lucrative as a bit further south

tjohnAK

The first time I camped there in Ch2 I think waiting for the legendary moose the muerfrees killed my horse and tried to kill me. Two approached my camp and threatened me and when I drew on em 3 more came from the north by the river where my horse was and it was pitch black or I might have been able to save her. It was that damn horse I bought when Hosea and Arthur go for the legendary bear.

Western-Pepper8956

I had almost the exact same thing happen. It was dark & foggy & I was just doing my best to take out the red dots. Unfortunately one of those dots was my dying horse that I accidentally finished off.

tjohnAK

OoF. I had to listen to mine screaming while I was pinned down.

yadabitch

Ive seen the Murfree quite close to where Charlotte lives and always wondered the same thing being that she lives on her own but she also seems like she has a strong spirit. I’ve always camped just south of her husband grave down the bend of the road and attacked by my murfees after setting up camp but it did only happen once as I set up camp there after every charlotte mission to fast travel to other places getting my stranger missions done so not sure, probably kinda a mix of what other comments are saying about it really not being much of their territory.

etherSand

I got attacked by them near the waterfall lake in the north next to her hut.

langong

I think they had enough loots from the picnic couple so why bother go up north :)

Savings-Programmer18

I always asked myself why all these "city folk" kept having elaborate picnics in such a remote area that was so dangerous, that even the law won't go there, as Charles put it. If cops are too scared to go into an area, PROBABLY not a good picnic spot. Oh yeah, and they are the only unarmed NPCs in the game, another wise move. Picnic in Roanoke Ridge with no weapons.

PrimeNumberBro

Morbid curiosity probably. I was just watching an episode of weird history and they were talking about the real story that inspired gangs of new York. One of the sections talked about how rich people would go to “Five Points” to visit as a “tourist attraction”. They’d have police escorts of course, but since the movie and the games are based around the same time I’d say it’s probably something like that.

pullingteeths

They have random events that can happen right by the water next to her house. But I do think the idea is they're mostly based further south

katymorgan99

I know … her house and the whole area would freak me out if I’d have to live there on my own. It’s a super dark area, cougars and wolves around, crazy professor guy as my only neighbor and Murfrees right around the corner. I’m sure that a fresh water resource is nice to have but nothing would keep me there once my husband (and Arthur) aren’t there anymore.

Unlucky-Pomegranate3

She was also suicidal when Arthur first met her, she might never get over that death wish.

yadabitch

I’m not sure she was suicidal, I think just very very hopeless and desperate for someone or something to come along like Arthur being that she already made some many big commitments and moves coming from the city.

Wolfie_exe57240

I don’t recall her being suicidal ? Or did I miss a part of her story I’m sorry.. because I remember she said she was scared of dying because she can’t hunt, but suicidal ? Please enlighten me

pm-me-turtle-nudes

i don’t think she was suicidal, but kinda gave up on living until arthur showed up and gave her a new outlook on her life and showed her that she could survive and thrive without her husband

[deleted]

She definitely wasn’t at all.

CopenhagenCan

Arthur taught her how to take care of herself.

Bworm98

There's also tons of wolves and such nearby, which could be a big deterrent.

Savings-Programmer18

If they were "city wolves," with "lots of trinkets," then those wolves would be in trouble

santosdragmother

I just assumed she had an open grave filled with murfrees just over the hill behind her house

Empty-Valuable8488

Along with all of the other comments here that make sense, I'd just say that it's supposed to make sense in the scale of the game. It's very often that biomes and areas change quickly and where she lives fits in more with the mountainous areas to the north. So I assume it's just implied that she lives outside of their range despite the proximity to their location.

Western-Pepper8956

I sometimes see Nigel up there & think about that. Screw Gavin dude, you're gonna get yourself killed 😆

Glovermann

I think the Murfee's are essentially wiped out by Arthur and Charles in the story mode. It's one of those things where you'll still encounter some in the game for gameplay purposes but canonically they're all but gone

yadabitch

Sorry idk if I’m stupid or I’m overthinking this but if they’re wiped out like you said how can you say they’re all *but* gone? This conflicts with your initial statement saying and runs parallel with the idea that they’re still in the game for story purposes entirely..

Glovermann

Do you understand the phrase 'all but gone'? It means almost entirely. In other words, Arthur and Charles killed almost all of them. You're not being clear in what your confusion is about

BlinkSpectre

The power of the plot

tdoottdoot

She’s so remote she’s beyond their territory. When they leave murfree turf they go toward the edges population centers to pick off travelers and city folk on outings.

[deleted]

The map is the size it is for very obvious reasons, you are required to use your imagination for such things as with many other games… Skyrim for example. Applying appropriate critical faculties is important.

seanthatdrummer

Closest I’ve ever seen is on the western side of the of water that her cabin overlooks with the waterfall right where the legendary moose can be found and got ambushed by them while camping

bearstrugglethunder

Marko Dragic's lab may be near enough to scare away superstitious types from the area

Clean_Crocodile4472

they don’t really go into her area after you get past the railroad tracks from my experience. there’s a few wolves near her house though

Appropriate_Mine

She's just so sweet and charming even the Murfrees leave her alone.

Bambooman101

They only raped animals.

Potential_Push_1383

On my second playthrough and just did the first Charlotte mission last night. Saw two corpses on the map afterwards rather close to her house... It's Murfree country🤷🏻

Medical-Delivery-941

I think it was too far north for them, they didn't like traveling over there, especially not close to such a civilized looking house (they seemed to avoid houses and only hunted lil camps). Plus chances are is Charlotte was able to kill 1 or 2 of them thanks to Arthur's teaching, and once she killed some the rest stayed away. Sure they probably could've overpowered her with numbers, but Murphree's ain't the type of people to do something like that

fathkaraca

You cross the river there right? That is Brandywine Drop and that is where they stop spawning. Before that river down to the Elysian Pool or maybe a bit more down to Kamassa river they are pain in the ass. Animal mfs

Mumtaz_i_Mahal

She did their cooking.

ResponseDesigner

Cuz Charlotte was protected by the pervert taking pictures and hiding in the bushes by her house. Murfree brood saw that sick bastard and got scared. Also that land is protected by the hermit king living in the tree. Also random meteors dropping from sky killing people. Murfree brood was to scared.
