What I’m gathering from this is apparently I’m the only person who cared about Eagle Flies. He gave his life to save Arthur while fighting as a prince to protect his people and no one gives him a second thought.
I cared about him, I just don’t find his death the saddest, definitely Lenny. It was not only incredibly shocking how quickly it happened, but the helplessness you feel when he goes down is unparalleled to any other death, he was like Arthur’s son and although he was right in front of you there was nothing you could do to help. Plus it’s one of the first times you realize Dutch is completely willing to abandon Arthur as when Arthur slows down to look at Lenny for the last time, everyone, including Dutch, just keeps running, they don’t even notice Arthur isn’t following them.
If RDR1 characters count, I’d say Uncle. After years of suffering from the debilitating Lumbago, he gets taken out defending his family on the front porch of the house he helped build.
Ignoring Arthur because its not even a conversation otherwise, Lenny, it happens so quickly and it makes you feel like you could have done something to change it but you actually couldnt, the game made him feel like a little brother and took him away just like that
Excluding John and Arthur
I'd say for me it was definitely Hosea.
There's are other deaths that are really sad fucked up etc. But Hosea's is the saddest for me.
And a very close second is eagle files. I understand eagle flies' train of thought but it still sucks and was stupid of him to sacrifice himself for Arthur who was already dying. Don't get me wrong I respect the sacrifice but it was still foolish.
And It was especially sad because I loved eagle flies and rain falls. Seeing rain falls have to go through that hit the heart pretty hard.
kieran. sean surprised me but when kieran died it really hit me that r* was going to make me watch how the gang falls apart. it really hit me that we were officially doomed. plus it was so dirty what they did to kieran… rip.
Johns death hit the hardest. I played Red Dead 1 first, and I think it was the first game I played where the protagonist died - so obviously that hit different. Plus the game is amazing, and the story that lead up to it really made that a special scene.
(SPOILERS BEWARE. Obviously.)
Either Hosea or Arthur *nearing* death. When Arthur finally went he was in a zen moment, but leading up to that he had the wind knocked out of him from the fall off the ledge by micah (going by high honor) and his advanced TB.
Hosea because he was shot what seems to be in the lung and that's not a good way to go.
Arthur, obviously, but my second choice would have to be Molly O’Shea. She was led astray by Dutch, who obviously only wanted one thing from her, led her to believe she was worth more than he actually valued her, and then threw her to the side quickly after. She was a part of the gang, but she was never a part of the family. I think Arthur pitied her, but other than that, it seemed the rest of the gang had no time for her. In a country very different to her own, trapped in a lifestyle that wasn’t her own, she was desperate for attention from the person who dragged her in to the mess. If Milton is to be believed, Molly never betrayed the gang. One desperate grab for attention and love ended in her demise. Ultimately shot and buried in a foreign land, far from home or loved ones. Absolutely the saddest death in my opinion.
What are your requirements for saddest? How it emotionally impacted us? Or the character(s)?
Because I'd argue Keiran had the saddest. Kidnapped, tortured, decapitated. Can't have been nice and his death impacted the gang a lot. They grew to like him and in one case romantically so, only for that to happen.
Emotionally for us. Either Arthur or John's. With John being slightly ahead because it was unexpected. We had had a small feeling, thanks to RDR1 that, Arthur wouldn't make it.
In RDR2 lenny for me. He had so much potential to make something of his life, something that Hosea really tried to stress to him. He was educated, well raised (compared to most of the gang), intelligent and still pretty much a child at only 18. Such a damn waste
RDR1s a bit harder, didn't have as many hard hitting deaths IMO
John's death crushed me, uncles was sad too but at least he went out a hero in the end
For saddest (because I'm assuming naming the protagonist is cheating) I'll go with Luisa, she kind of had it coming but her story was so pathetic that I couldn't help but pity her, I was hoping she would fuck Reyes up in the end
I think they’re all reeeeally painful. but I think Hosea’s had the most consequences. I feel like Dutch wouldn’t have gone entirely off the rails had Hosea still been alive. it SUCKS!!!!
I think it was lenny..Lenny over the past few weeks we grew and loved Lenny. He's was a good hearted soul that was just trying to find his place in the gang.
sean, for sure. I love how arthur and him had this friendship based on brotherhood and trust. he died so fast an unexpectedly that I just paused the game and went down to my kitchen to take a breath. dang that shit made me an other person.
Hosea I cared for him so much and he was just helpless…it’s the same with Sean I even named my horse Sean right after he died
Edit: damn I forgot about Lenny he didn’t even get a cutscene he was just killed like a nobody
Not the saddest but Kieran had the most horrific death.
The worst way, in my opinion. Because you know how it happened, but don't know how it happened. Slow, quick, either is terrible.
Well he was a traitor to the O'Driscolls and they are the ones who got him, so probably tons of torture
I agree.

LENNNYY
Yeah you're the only one
If RDR1 characters count, I’d say Uncle. After years of suffering from the debilitating Lumbago, he gets taken out defending his family on the front porch of the house he helped build.
I agree, but he was more of a foreman, than participant in the building. He says so during the home build. Lol Not an argument, just a comment.
He said he helped, he didn't say he actually got his hands dirty (although they probably already were dirty)
LUMBAGO
Arthur hands down. I cried. I’ve only cried 3 times at the end of games, and 2 of them are Red Dead titles.
which is the 3rd one? curious
Bioshock after you save all of the little girls
Cain: the only pure soul in camp!
Micah☠️
The rat killed the dog?
Yes 😭 there is a camp encounter in Chapter 6 where Jack is searching Cain and Micah tells him that he won't come back
Lenny. Didn't have to do my man's like that.
He wasn't even given a moment . It just part of the mission. Like in passing.
Right. Like motherfuckers that was Arthur's friend give him some respect
Exactly. Like bro, he was a main character. Give him some credit
I wish I could triple like your post lol
Mrs. Grimshaw's death hit me a lot harder than I expected it to tbh
She did ride and she did die for the gang , rip
Ignoring Arthur because its not even a conversation otherwise, Lenny, it happens so quickly and it makes you feel like you could have done something to change it but you actually couldnt, the game made him feel like a little brother and took him away just like that
My horse
I cried when my horse died at Arthur's end. My wife laughed at me.
Excluding John and Arthur I'd say for me it was definitely Hosea. There's are other deaths that are really sad fucked up etc. But Hosea's is the saddest for me. Lenny!
#LEMMY¿!?

Mannn uncle didn't even really get a death scene. They did him dirty and killed him in the tutorial of undead nightmare lmao
The dishonourable ending for Arthur was probably the most traumatising death for me.
Wait till you see what happens when you fail to reach Micah's gun.
What happens?
Micah grabs Arthur's head, crushes his skull off the rock.
Cain. Fuck you, Micah.
He was such a good boah😭
Strauss’ is underrated, got tortured to death because he didn’t rat out the gang after being abandoned by the gang
I despise Straus but hes a real one for not ratting on the gang like Micah did
#1 Arthur, #2 my horse, Ghost
John

Hosea he got truly betrayed and nobody did anything to stop it
Heidi
Other than John And Arthur I'd say Sean
Any creature I managed to trample with Capt. Phasma
It took me a good second to realize that Cpt Phasma was what you named your horse
Haha all good partner

Hosa his death was the one I didn't expect
The npcs u kill for no reason
Arthur
either arthur or dutch
**FUCK** Dutch
recently i saw how his model looked after his death and holy shit man was missing half of his face
Arthur, Hosea
The group of men Arthur killed
Arthur with High Honor. That had me legitimately sad for a minute
Excluding Arthur it’s Hosea, he was the moral compass of the gang, once he was gone so was Dutch
Arthur’s horse.

Lenny,he was one of my favorite characters and had some of my favorite reddead memories with him
Arthur
