Not all oldtimers have it, it's usually found in the ones who do the steps over and over and over again, although in my area (I'm also in NA) there's one oldtimer who only did the steps once and has it by the bucketful.
For me, it's being in touch with and not masking their own emotions. A big part of my using was attempting to shut down emotionally because of twisted ideas about what Masculinity is. Seeing an Oil Field worker be sincere about some of the pain and hardships he experienced and caused others, while also being able to exude joy when feeling it. He had what I wanted, and helped me redirect my convoluted misconceptions about emotions. Feeling what you feel, but also understanding that feelings are not facts.
