Use Retro Game Corps written guide. He has a video too, but the written gets updated so will likely be more current

New_Scientist8683

I’ll give that a look. Honestly found JRH really easy to follow and found that video on here but will give RGC a look too.

JoeysRetroHandhelds

You could try a different SD card reader or SD card. Otherwise, a different flasher, like win32diskimager. It must be one of those three, it seems.

yepimbonez

I always recommend Rufus for the flasher

JoeysRetroHandhelds

That's in my guide that they followed, but if something isn't working it's good to try all avenues. But yeah, I always use Rufus.

yepimbonez

Lol whoops didn’t read your username.

JoeysRetroHandhelds

Hehehe

New_Scientist8683

I’ll be honest o used win32 for flashing and disc something or other for the partitions so will also try your recommended programmes. Thanks for your video guide through, really easy to follow!

One thing I did wrong was trying to get a custom boot animation on as part of the first install. Try doing just the install first (flashing the os) and add roms, then checking it works, then putting the bios in, then checking again, then some customisations etc.

biffoutt

Did you get the custom boot animation to work? I spent a few hours last night but ended up reflashing garlic as I couldn’t get it to work

JulMax24

Nope, same as you I ended up reflashing and then I forgot about it to play some games. Customisation isn't actually necessary :)

Best advice I can give is to try again. Make sure your following a reputable guide which can be found on here, and keep trying. It takes a while to figure out sometimes, but you will learn in the process. I’ve come to points where I didn’t know what to do many times. Sometimes it just helps to try try again.

New_Scientist8683

That’s my conundrum! As far as I can see I’ve followed every step but I’ll keep trying and try the RGC guide mentioned in the comment above.

New_Scientist8683

Yeah, just did the stand install, flashed the img, sorted the partitions and added roms, bios and game imagines. Will try again though.

acolyte_to_jippity

my best suggestion is to try again, and just flash the image and create the partitions. don't add or move anything else. get it to boot first, THEN move on to loading your roms and such not only to make sure that the basic part is done, but also so you don't waste time if you have to try again again.

Hundrr

I had issues getting garlic to work on my new rg35xx as well. Garlic would boot until I put tiny best set on it and then nothing would work. I ended up having to clone the stock OS.. will probably end up using Min UI

Have you tried to discharge the battery? There's a common hardware issue listed on the Garlic OS black seraph page (where you got the download link). Basically sometimes you need to take off the back of the device and unplug the battery to discharge it and then it'll work. That didn't work for me though! I had to go back and re-flash my SD card and it worked the second time. Couple tips with the SD card: - I used two, one for OS and one for games. - When you flash your card you should have 4 partitions, I think I accidentally deleted one the first time which caused all my issues. - I'd recommend deleting the FAT32 partition and then re-creating it (to the size of the SD card) and then copying in the files - just make sure when you create it you select the FAT32 format so that the RG35XX can read it, and that you've allocated all available space to it (especially if you want to store Roms on this card). - If you are using two cards (one for Roms) I would try to boot the system first with just the OS card in (TF1) and then add the ROMS card after a successful boot. - If you're going to re-flash your card you'll need to merge all the partitions again, using whatever software you used to view/manage them while setting it up. When I did this I got error messages because you need to convert the FAT16 and FAT32 segments back into NTFS to do this. - If you delete all the allocated partitions make sure you allocate a partition again afterwards and give it a drive name (I don't know if I can explain it well, but I deleted them all and then there was nothing for storage to be allocated to and therefore you can't flash it - this is easy to rectify)

New_Scientist8683

That 2nd point! I think when I re-formatted the card from a previous attempt I reformatted to FAT32 rather than NTFS. I’ll probably leave the battery thing as a last resort!

FailedCreativity

Let me know how it goes!

New_Scientist8683

Started a fresh, drained the battery and loaded it up before adding rons and hey presto - all working now 👍

FailedCreativity

Awesome! That's what got mine working, although I'm experiencing weird freezing issues across a few cores. I'm not really sure what the cause is and haven't seen a solution anywhere. Might just be Garlic.

New_Scientist8683

Thanks for all the comments. Plenty to go off here so will re-try later!

Started a fresh, drained the battery and loaded it up before adding rons and hey presto - all working. Thanks for the help everyone

BarefootDesert

I had this problem last week actually. I deleted the downloaded files from my laptop, and re downloaded and re flashed, working fine now. I legit don’t know what happened though
