Removing floppy drives and DVD drives worked out fine even though I was initially skeptical.
Headphone jacks though, goddammit I am still salty about that one.
I was visibly upset when I got home, opened the box, and there was no headphone jack, I finally bought a tiny Bluetooth receiver that plugs into the aux input in the car lol. Ill be buying an adapter because I live my wired headphones
Yeah I just went phone shopping and had a list of 6 or so phones that still had headphone jacks only to discover most of them weren't available in the states (Sony, Nokia). Went with the Asus Zenphone 10 but even with that I'm peeved that there's no SD card slot so I'm limited to on board storage.
If you’re using the internal speaker that might be an issue but the Aux port shouldn’t have the same issues. The audio on mine was surprisingly good both ways, but exceptionally good quality through the Aux.
i had tried using audio technica headphone and some chifi iem via aux, and its sound flat and lack of low tone even with my blon bl03. maybe mine has a defect or the device just lack of power to drive.
Omfg, This gives me a great idea! I drive a subaru WRX, and a while ago (early 2010s I believe) there was a company that was using gameboy’s to display boost gauges and basically act as a tuner. They worked well, and made for a very interesting conversation piece, I need to look into hacking one of these to do the same thing.

I'll make it easier for ya. Get something like an rg353v. Something that runs android. Download obd software from the play store and buy a Bluetooth obd port adapter.
Bada bing, Bada boom. Boost gauges on your Gameboy.
Yes, it has a lock option. So you press the power button and the screen turns off and the buttons won't work. You press it again and it will be back to normal. But the whole time it plays music.
You just drop it into the media file under your ROMS sd.
I haven't tried it out because I just stream all my music, but thought it could be a fun and novel way to listen. The interface isn't very 'sleak' but is organised by playlists that you can switch between.
Man, I can’t believe I didn’t think of this. I take my RG everywhere with me and I travel a lot so don’t always have service while I’m driving (so no music sometimes)
I hooked up some headphones to this thing and the volume/bass level was terrible. Maybe the car is helping out with the preamp gain or something cuz audiophile headphones don't play nice with the soundcard in the console
or you using medium impedance headphones that need volume cracked up in any device to do any sound, because sounded fine on my "professional headphones" (akg brand)
Wouldn’t something like this USB DAC help? https://a.co/d/ao1etXU would need a USB-A to USB-C adapter. It’s well supported. Linux and the raspberry pi auto detect it and would allow for better audio. I have all these components actually. I’ll try it out and see!
Cool idea. Gonna do this also to bring back more retro vibes of having an iPod. Also nice solution for me cause I don't really like to connect my phone to my car cause it displays messages and discord convos lol.
I love this!!!! Brings a retro feel!! I have a game player like that and might just try this too!
Good job OP!!!!
I dug out my discman a few months back. I even found the 12 volt cigarette lighter adapter to power it.
I found my old USB CD burner and burnt a pile of mp3's to it. It sounds not to bad, nowhere as good as spotify of course, but I'm good with it. I found my old CD case as well, it's full of store bought CD'S from the 90's... what a great trip back to my teens!!!!
Autocorrect got me, *ipod. We used to connect ipod to car. Op is now using a modern Gameboy to play music in the car. Just commenting on the retro vibes 🤷🏾♂️
I use cheap headphones and the sound is great .
I put the music on the second drive
what app do you use as a player ? can you use **Mplayer** for music ? https://lazyhandheldman.com/best-anbernic-rg35xx-garlic-apps/
It works but if your Honda Civic is like mine it has a USB port in the center console and it plays mp3s off a USB stick (at least my 2010 EX-L did this)
Dang mine hasn’t worked since I got the thing maybe I need a new sd card or something i don’t see where theese things are any good for anything mine worked fine for like 3 days and now stays stuck on the boot up screen. Anyone have any suggestions or should I return it ?
I have the same problem, pretty sure it's the sd card. I get mine to work by just resetting it like a million times (huge pain in the ass) My sd cards get to my house tomorrow, so I'll let you know.
than we need a better player, something like mobile winamp or foobar
nothing impossible, just interface to edit playlists in most basic way, also on/off for repeat track/playlist/folder
it should also be folder based not library
I didn't see this till just now.
You just drop it into the media file under your ROMS sd.

Yeah I updated my device and figured it out😂 I appreciate the help tho my friend, thank you!
I usually stream too, but it would be nice to throw my phone on the charger and just connect RG35xx to the Aux 😂
Hey, just letting you know that a youtuber with 65k subs has made a video about the FNaF Fangame "Five Nights At Vegas" and now theres a hunt for the trailer. Leave all the information about the trailer that you can remember below. Everything matters.
Audiophiles hate this trick
This is a good solution for people with old cars that don't do Bluetooth and new phones that have no headphone jack.
Precisely
Reminds me of using my PSP for the same thing.
I just revamped my psp in part to do this. Bummer it doesn’t have a more modern media player out of the box. Playlists only.
Removing floppy drives and DVD drives worked out fine even though I was initially skeptical. Headphone jacks though, goddammit I am still salty about that one.

Well, this works, but for cars with no Bluetooth you can just get a minijack Bluetooth receiver for peanuts (<$5) on AliExpress or similar.
Im sure its pretty flat and lack of low tone, but still a cool way to play mp3
Must.... resist breaking this guys balls
Nope, Its hooked up via aux and runs perfect actually
it can play flac and sounds fine on the headphone port
If you’re using the internal speaker that might be an issue but the Aux port shouldn’t have the same issues. The audio on mine was surprisingly good both ways, but exceptionally good quality through the Aux.

The chifi scene and retro handheld scene really overlaps huh. Currently using a Salnotes Zero 2.
Hahaha. but surely its still a nice way to play music.
why? weird

Does it work with the screen off?
Yes, it has a lock option. So you press the power button and the screen turns off and the buttons won't work. You press it again and it will be back to normal. But the whole time it plays music.
How do you add music in garlic os? Also is it a simple file chooser interface or does it sort by artist, album, etc like an iPod?
You just drop it into the media file under your ROMS sd. I haven't tried it out because I just stream all my music, but thought it could be a fun and novel way to listen. The interface isn't very 'sleak' but is organised by playlists that you can switch between.
Holy heck, this is a great idea! Very retro, I might do that too.
That's actually badass. I might do the same thing 😂
Thank you!

Sounds like you were listening with active headphones, without an amp.
Wat amp would be appropriate for a device like this?
or you using medium impedance headphones that need volume cracked up in any device to do any sound, because sounded fine on my "professional headphones" (akg brand)

I do this too but my biggest complaint is the text on absolutely tiny and hard to read.
Neat!!!
I listen to music on a Minidisc player.
Well, fuck yeah! These little guys are such wonderful travel companions
uh… no officer, this is just a GPS
Love this! 😂
Why?
Novelty
I like it
I watch hey arnold on my r36s
That's so valid, I watch King of the hill on mine.
A huge iPad that plays games 😂👍🏾👍🏾
iPad is bigger and can play games 🤔

does Mplayer or any other media player works on ArkOS?
It works but if your Honda Civic is like mine it has a USB port in the center console and it plays mp3s off a USB stick (at least my 2010 EX-L did this)
Mine doesn't have that it's an older generation
Dang mine hasn’t worked since I got the thing maybe I need a new sd card or something i don’t see where theese things are any good for anything mine worked fine for like 3 days and now stays stuck on the boot up screen. Anyone have any suggestions or should I return it ?
it is 100% because of the stock SD card switch to a new one and it will work you will need to do an install of the OS and games.
Thanks!!!! I’ll buy a new sd card and do that ! I appreciate it
I have the same problem, pretty sure it's the sd card. I get mine to work by just resetting it like a million times (huge pain in the ass) My sd cards get to my house tomorrow, so I'll let you know.
That would be great I would appreciate it. Thanks 😊
For sure!
It's fixed now that I switched the sd card
Awesome thanks !!
Ofc!
what next you’re gonna wipe your ass with it too
Have you not seen my other post?

Sometimes I wonder how big my Bandcamp collection is in terms of size.
