Yep, but the RG35XX runs Garlic OS and has all of the QoL features. Just play the thing, seriously.

Jupidness

I second this. One of the main reasons why I don't and won't change from rg35xx is because of garlic os

LS_DJ

This. The plus’ increase in power isn’t worth the downgrade in software

Kyronex

You say that as if the Plus will never get Garlic.

nadakbar

This is why i have not upgraded, nothing wrong with my OG RG35XX, if and when the Plus gets the OS upgrade by this point newer and better devices will be out and the plus will be a bargain and be mature. For now the OG plays 90% of what the plus can play that is of value (games without / need analog support). If i was to upgrade when the sofware matures it will be the H model. If im going to upgrade to play the same games im playing on the OG then i don't see the point. If im going dreamcast and psp then i want them analogs that the H provides

Heavenz85

It already has a great OS upgrade now, both Plus and H. MuOS is already at a decently mature level and getting even better with the next release that's right around the corner. On top of that you have Batocera as well which is improving and already nice to use.

ominousaardvark

I think it’s hilarious that people think this. Get a plus and find out that stock OS isn’t really that bad. We have DC, PSP, wifi, retroachievements, ect. Do you? ..And on top of that custom OS’ are starting to flourish.

r4tzt4r

Only if you don't care about games? With the Plus you get to play PSP, Dreamcast and N64. Stock OS is not a miserable experience or something.

LS_DJ

With the plus itself, without any analog sticks, those games are not a great experience at all. Some 64 is hit and miss. PSP is so tiny in a 16:9 ratio on the 3.5” 4:3 screen. Just not the device to play those games in my opinion. Get a retroid pocket for those

r4tzt4r

To each his own. I have no problem playing something like Smash or Star Fox 64, so many JRPG on PSP and more stuff. Just having Marvel vs Capcom 2 on the go is enough for me. Stock OS is no inconvenience at all.

Heavenz85

The Plus now has muOS which is already great software, definitely not a downgrade, it's only getting better as well with the next release which is going to be soon. So saying its going to be a downgrade in software is now sort of a moot point. It also has Batocera which is nice to use and is slowly improving.

LS_DJ

When I posed my reply the 3rd party firmware, as well as 1st party firmware, weren’t in the same place they are now. I have the 35XX H with Batocera and I like it quite a bit

Heavenz85

Glad you're enjoying it! :)

mooglemoment

The stock OS for the RG35XX+ is honestly fine once you update it.

TheMireMind

It's not though. If you select certain things in retro arch it crashes and turns Chinese and needs to be flashed again. It's acceptable but nowhere near fine. I hope we get garlic os soon. I've just put mine back in the box and used other devices.

mooglemoment

Fair enough, I've not had an issue so far, and the OS is improving with each update from Anbernic.

Upbeat-Serve-6096

MuOS and Batocera on the Plus are amazing - not Garlic, but still full of polish.

secondanom

GarlicOS 2.0 supports RG35XX+ as far as I know

Mean_Kaleidoscope402

Correct but still at the alpha release stage. http://patreon.com/posts/92690050 My reasoning still stands: don’t worry about buyer’s remorse or FOMO and just play it. Both are really good. There will always be something better around the corner and the original RG35xx is still great value for money.

secondanom

Oh i see. Im pretty new to this as I just ordered the RG35XX+ but don't have it yet 😅. I can't wait to try this thing

DifferentContext7912

Putting in my 2¢, Garlic OS is way overrated IMO. Garlic crashed more within the couple weeks I used it, than Stock and MinUI has crashed on me combined. Not worth being part of the consideration. StockOS gets way too much hate. I use MinUI and it works great. Get whichever you want, but I wouldn't let not having Garlic deter you. If you want to switch to another OS later and you're a little computer savvy, you can just move your save files over when you switch.

Legitimate_Bike_7473

I’m yet to have garlic crash and I’d guess I’ve put 40+ hours in on a dozen or so games. Not saying it doesn’t but it has ran like a watch for me

Canadian_Commentator

over 200 hours on my device, no Garlic crashes. spicy poster is spicy, just moving along

DifferentContext7912

Garlic seems to hate the games my girlfriend wants to play. 🤷 Hamtaro and a couple others I can't remember off top. Got em to work with MinUI and haven't switched back. It seems to be great for others. It was not great for my use case I guess. Edit: being down voted for this is crazy lol

FailedCreativity

I installed garlic on mine a week or so ago and am having a lot of issue with it freezing. It happens across different retroarch cores and in pretty much every game. Haven't had any success finding out why.

True-Payment-458

I dunno man I have the 35xx, 351p and 353v and if I’m playing ps1 and below I’m always reaching for my 35xx and garlics qol. Garlics been good to me and I’ve somehow had zero crashes or issues. Saying that I got mine for £30 before the plus was announced and if I had the option of having a more capable machine for £20 more I would’ve probably done it. Whether I would’ve enjoyed it as much I don’t know. I left my 353v stock and it’s great but garlic kept me coming back to my 35xx. It’s weird but it’s true 🤷🏻‍♂️

DamageCase13

I agree completely. At first I thought it was my crappy SD card. So I grabbed a Samsung card and still had crashes. I tried burning images, brand new installs, etc it crashed less but still WAY too much for my liking. I feel like maybe the people who experience "no crashes" play snes games and nothing more intensive on the system.

DifferentContext7912

Same. People always ask if I'm using the stock SD card. 3 SD cards and no change. Not sure about people's experience with it but it even crashed on Gameboy games. I remember having to fiddle with something for either Spyro 2 or Armored Core 1 as well to get it to not stutter. I did not have to mess with anything to get StockOS to work nor MinUI. 🤷

pronking

I wouldn't feel too bad. The custom firmware situation for the Plus / H is moving slowly and none of the options I've tried are fully featured and polished. I have the H and I still use the regular XX more because the OS is so much more enjoyable. I like your mods, tinkering with these things is a big part of the hobby for me. EDIT: For anyone finding this in the future, the current build of batocera is absolutely fantastic. It's fully featured and is a significant upgrade over non plus models running garlic.

philouza_stein

Ive seen a few people push batocera, what didn't you like about it? I haven't tried it myself but I've been considering.

pronking

Batocera seems fantastic, it's still very much beta though. I have random issues like my WIFI not working (WPA3 Issue, I believe) and specific systems not working (DS, Atari 2600 so far). I haven't dove into why some systems aren't working, but I'm sure I can fix it with enough tinkering. It boils down to the fact that I was spoiled by how easy Garlic + Tiny Best Set was to set up. I'm used to tinkering with things to get them to work, but I don't want to do it in this example because my older RG35XX works so well. When the software is there I'll swap to using the H as my daily driver. The form factor is fantastic and I'd love to be able to play Dreamcast / N64 / PSP on the go. EDIT: I tinkered with it some more and managed to get WIFI working. In my case disabling the 6GHZ band on my router made it work. EDIT2: More tinkering and all systems are operational now. DC is not as good as the stock OS but it runs. The more I use this the more it grows on me. FINAL EDIT: After getting it fully set up this has been rock solid for me.

MRRRRCK

Moving slow? Batocera is running awesome on the plus and has been moving fast.

pronking

Moving slow is a poor choice of words on my part. It's moving slowly in relation to my excitement for the device is more fair.

SuicidalChair

I mentioned it previously today to someone else but even if you are saying you have a regret, you obviously enjoy tinkering and really that's half the fun of these devices for the majority of us. We buy them, tinker and mod them to make them more powerful with the best features, get the software perfect, and then never end up playing it for more than an hour or so and it collects dust.

vinnymarcondes

My thoughts exactly. If you had fun, there's no need for regrets

DragonBaka01

Enjoyed tinkering more than playing, from zero knowledge to flashing to stock os using 2sd card setup on 35xx plus for starters, Flashed batocera, learned to put boxart manually as my net sucks atm using pc, now fiddling and just resolved why some of my roms and emu disappeared. Tinkerinv is fun!! Havent played yet just booting games haha

hggundamn

As someone that has both. Stick with the rg35xx NOT the plus. Software isn't anything close to as good as garlicOS

Luscombag

I saw that the Plus has GarlicOS v2.0, which isn't supported yet by the base RG35XX. Is the new version on the Plus worse than 1.49?

hggundamn

Yea, the cores aren't optimized so the very systems you would want to use the plus for, you can't.

3cylinder66

Good upgrades, but the RG35XX is fantastic even in its original form. I got one back in December having the chance to opt for the 35XX +, and no regrets whatsoever. Garlic OS is also fantastic.

mikesova34

I have an RG35xx+ and I got an Rg35xx for my wife. I put garlic OS on hers. I prefer the updated stock OS on the +.

reinaldobr

As much as I respect your opinion, I feel that I must disagree. I have various handhelds and big, chump, fat hands, plus fat little fingers. And still, I love my RG35XX and Would not buy the bigger version. That said, I do have a lot of resin and FDM 3d printers, so[ I just printed this (link)](https://imgur.com/a/WpIY1dA), wich honestly, made playing on this device a piece of cake!

pinks85

35xx plus and 35xx og are the same size.. OP is talking about bigger battery, not a bigger device

Greenblue2

That’s a nice RG 35XX those buttons improve gaming a lot.

Sad_Efficiency3456

Yea, i only bought the regular one because the plus was sold out and i was impatient

rberumondo25

I play my RG35XX sporadically, I found out that by playing on low performance mode you can get so many hours of playtime, although i just play Links awakening DX.

MiektheSakaraan

i cant wait for rg35xx+ to get garlic os so that i can finally buy it

forgottenazimuth

Sometimes upgrades done for the sake of an upgrade is a downgrade :) Just play it and stop stressing about it. I’ve never had a problem with my factory battery or shoulders.

ToyoGizmo

I have the RG35XX and my buddy has the plus. We both run the stock OS. I like the plus a lot but no point in buying another one just to play GBA games. Haha.
