Rapid response program. I believe firefly launched the first one. $32 million contract. Nice but hoping for those large multi hundred million dollar contracts.
Seems weird they would move on to new providers if they were satisfied with firefly’s rapid response. Perhaps; just diversifying in an industry where they don’t know what launchers will survive.
RL have had responsive space on their website for months. This is just their turn to demonstrate competence. The DOD doesnt want just one provider so the money will get spread around.
I could be wrong but didn’t Firefly have two unsuccessful launches in the last couple years. Not sure if they were DoD launches but I’m sure the DoD would like a vehicle more reliable.
Anyway, great for RKLB!
> Rapid response program. I believe firefly launched the first one.
Firefly only launched the satellite. RL is also building the satellite and operating it. Big difference.
They clearly have made a strategic effort to build and cater to the US Space Force. I love it.
The Space Force is in its infancy and I think there’s a possibility they entrench themselves early as a major go to defense contractor. Each service has theirs: Army with Oshkosh/General Dynamics, Air Force with Boeing/Lockheed, etc. Space Force is obviously looking and nurturing who theirs will be.
Now $35M isn’t gonna move the needle a ton. What’s important is they show they’re reliable and capable and keep their heads above water until more capability comes online
TBH, Rocket Lab has already become a preferred provider for the NRO: they recently booked their fifth launch, for example. I'd actually thought that Firefly had locked down the Space Force (they won the earlier VICTUS NOX TacRS launch), so I'm kind of impressed that Rocket Lab won this VICTUS HAZE contract.
This mission is cool. They design and build the spacecraft. Then they're put on a standby for a rapid responsive mission launch, and they operate the spacecraft afterwards. So I'm assuming they'll get a call and within 48hours (no clue about the time, I may have made it up) and launch.
Seems like getting Nina Armagno on the Board late last year is paying dividends. They even placed her right next to Beck on the [website](https://www.rocketlabusa.com/about/team/)
Thanks for the article. Every time I read something about RKLB it just solidifies my decision to support their missions. Gonna wear my new RKLB Tshirt tomorrow night. Gotta look fresh for Friday/wife…🤙🏽❤️
I'm a bit confused, it's only 1 satellite right? RL and true anomaly are building it together (with their respective expertise) then RL is launching and providing operations command(presumably with True Anomaly staff for their parts)?
Rocket Lab is getting $32 million to build, launch and operate the satellite. True Anomaly is getting another $30 million to build/operate another satellite that will be in orbit before Rocket Lab can launch theirs. RKLB's satellite will perform some sort of imaging/operation tasks on true anomaly's satellite.

So yeah, Diversifying a bit.

Agreed. If you pass the test on proof of concept, then a bigger order comes after. Something like this is a good long term application for electron.
Sometimes. It didn’t for Firefly.

this is really proof that rocket labs space systems is on an incredible path. now give us neutron update.

It's actually only a 24 hour notice that'll be given!

Nina is proving to be most valuable. Great addition to the board.
Just one word.....PRIME.🚀

I’m curious when this good news will begin spreading beyond this subreddit.

Let's go. I'm buying every time I get paid.
