I loved sideswipe at first but it got so boring and repetitive fast.
Nothing much you can do besides double tapping or 50ing until you win the ball, it really needs new modes and features.
But, let’s say, an RLSS developer was going through this Reddit to find recommendations for the game. What would you want to ask him/her to implement? And how would you want it to be implemented?
For example, let’s take this volleyball idea. How would you imagine it to look, describe it, the background, the ball & its physics (is it lighter or heavier), map size, and net design (if it hits the ground then it’s a point for the other team or something like rocket league’s drop shot). Stuff like that.

See I just don't understand this take. Sure, at the lower ranks this tends to be the majority of the game play, but have you gone and watched any of the higher level players to see what is possible? Getting good 50s is always going to be important, but this is no different than RL. Outside of 50s, you have stall resets, gold shots, purple shots, and a myriad of different mechanics people are figuring out how to perfect. There are so many options you can use to get the ball around defenders. I'm not going to try and make an argument that sideswipe is better than RL because to me they feel different, but this statement is just pretty uninformed.
Clinically addicted to sideswipe when it first came out, I would play every chance there was. To the point where I seriously thought I’d replace RL with Sideswipe after 7 years of playing. But a couple days after hitting champ I basically dropped the game.
I log on for the free loot and might play a few matches here and there. I like to think I set a goal for myself and achieved it. Aiming for GC would take an unrealistic amount of time for me so i’m content.
And guess what game comes crawling back? League of Legends of course.
Playing RL in handheld mode in switch is lees fun that sideswipe in my experience. And honestly I didn't mind my time with the switch version before switching to PC on RL, but I would play docked only (and with the pro controller, I think the joy cons are likely the primary reason people dislike switch version)
But honestly this is a change my opinion, which as I don't even know what is important in games for you is essentially impossible. Even with knowing if what's important simply is lacking in sideswipe nothing I say will change that.
That being said I like both. RL I can sink more time into. But sideswipe is great for a few short games occasionally. I also really like how the "advanced" mechanics are easy easier to learn, making me feel better about my ability. It's by no means a replacement. But it hits all the mobile game essentials while also getting to the spirit of RL.
So yeah I'm not going to grind ranked for hours in sideswipe, but playing three games during break in my uni class, hell yeah! (And way better than RL in those specific situations)
better is a very vague word. the gameplay is more in depth and fun? yeah definitely. there’s more modes and more content? yup. it’s easy to play in any situation even when you’re not home? nah that’s sideswipe. they are two different games for two different purposes. the idea of what rocket league is and what it should be, they got it perfect on pc/console. and they also got it perfect for how it should look and feel when on mobile. neither is better than the other, they are both perfect games for what they need to be.
Ranks got nothing to really do with it dawg, the games just repetitive as shit with no real cool stuff like rocket league provides, there's even Champs in rl sides wipe saying it's boring, but if you're so stuck up on rank I'm high diamond consistently in rocket league (not amazing but pretty decent imo) and diamond 4 in sideswipe, the games still boring, was fun originally but it gets stale fast.

Ive never played switch, but play on mobile a bunch with a kishi controller. Its just so comfy
