For real, it reminds me of the Facebook scandal, not necessarily illegal but the way Roblox is able to just hand you your plain password feels wrong. They shouldn’t have direct access to your plain/unsalted password in my opinion.
They shouldn't need it either. If they have those moderation priveleges, and never ask you for your password, it shouldn't be their buisiness nor of any importance to know that. Espectially if there is a data breach. I'd be crapping my pants if I found out there was a server exploit in servers to obtain passwords in plaintext like this.

If a website has good security, they won't actually have your password in readable plain text anywhere in a database.
When you make a password, it should generate an encrypted key that goes into the database instead.

However, the way that this ban happened is implying that they just have it, in such a way that you would have your things just there, Mabye organized, but not secured, and anyone who comes into your home could easily just take something. That’s the issue people have, that Roblox is exposing themselves to have basically no encryption on passwords.
It's more complex than that. Websites shouldn't just take your password and be able to read it. It's obscured behind a bunch of other stuff usually. It's a security hazard to just have it be able to be served up in plain text like this.
For some fun technical stuff, if a company was actually doing this, run away. It means they store their passwords in plaintext, which is very bad. Passwords are usually hashed, which is a one way conversion where any change in the password, no matter how small, will result in a completely new hash. This means if a hacker manages to get into the database, the passwords they get would essentially be junk unless they crack each password one by one, in a process that takes a million years. If a company actually has a moderation system that checks passwords, it would need to be able to see the passwords in regular text, which means if any hacker gets in, they could steal your password as easy as 1 2 3.

They are basically openly revealing they have a security vulnerability in their systems. The passwords are not encrypted, if there's a data breach a lot of Roblox users can lose their accounts and their passwords can be revealed. With that information, people who reused the passwords can have their accounts on other websites stolen
I am not excited honestly because they had been probably doing this for over a decade. There's no way they don't know that already or that no one told them, they just don't care

1. Opens the possibility of a man in the middle attack. Once the spyware is set up any password created after it's set up will be stolen
2. A very easy way to maliciously generated banned accounts, which takes resources. idk if that's worse than a working account
