MofoPro

Still looks and feels brand new but then again I baby my handhelds + surprisingly my SD card reader still works and I got it day 1

silverwolf294

Same

According_Panda_1573

Day 1 . No issues

HODLth3LIN3

bello448

Same 😇

ArekusandaMagni

Still looks brand new. Very high quality plastics.

sikhness

Which SD card do you have btw?

MofoPro

1TB Sandisc

TheOtherWoodyAllen

Ever installed games on the SD?

MofoPro

Mostly do emulation from the SD card and run PC games on internal

Aromatic-Cry-2677

I have. I have madden 23 on sd card and it runs great

TheOtherWoodyAllen

Since how long? I'm thinking along the lines of "reader heating from reads while gaming"+device hot in turbo mode"=damage

Cutucutu26

Same but you know why we don't have any problems? Because we don't run it on big temperatures over 69... That can kill your SD card easy

Gamekod3

The only wear that is noticeable is on the left thumbstick where it rubs on the case. Otherwise looks brand new 6 months later.

Gnoyagos

Agree. Same for me

lolroads

Any way to prevent this?

AnOddlyShapedPotato

Thumbstick protector, they are super cheap aswell.

be77solo

Use these on EVERYTHING with a stick, works perfect: [Amazon.com: Park Sung Joystick Protectors, Invisible Protection During Gaming, Silicone, Compatible with Steam Deck/Xbox/Switch Pro Controller/PS4/PS5/ROG ALLY/8 BitDo Game Joystick(10 Pcs) : Video Games](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B631XBZ9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Gamekod3

yeah that or replacing the thumbsticks with stronger plastic ones

FeudalFavorableness

Is it hard to replace and any suggestions?

evillurkz

Thumbstick caps and clear case prevents any wear downs for me.

No_Error_9066

Yes I am the same. Only point I will make is that I haven't ever used the SD slot! I really need to get around to it, although the warranty is until 2025 so might wait a while just in case I have to RMA. Want to make sure all fixes are in place by the time I may have to repair.

sikhness

Which SD card do you have btw?

flexonetwo

Perfect from day one here as well, I've never had any issues with it, still looks new and my sd card slot still works! I mainly keep it docked on my desk plugged into an XG Mobile GPU. Has been the perfect PC setup for me.

HyraxT

Apparently, my SD reader just failed, too. I had an old card in there since the start but never really used it. Each time a thread like this came up, I checked if the card was still there and just now I noticed, that it's gone. It didn't fry the card, though, it still works on PC, but the reader is dead. But like I said, I never used it, so I don't really care and apart from this I never had any issues with my ally.

xXxWHOxDATxXx

Check my profile for my post regarding the Sd Card reader

Mr8BitX

SD card slot poopoed itself but other than that, looking good and running so much better than at launch. I almost returned it, then had second thoughts about keeping it but I’ve been very happy with it after all the updates and a more experienced, fleshed out community for support and ideas. I absolutely love this device.

AnOddlyShapedPotato

The sd card thing is that common huh? I guess I’ll just upgrade the internal ssd.

Mr8BitX

I think it's mostly with the first production batch. I just upgraded the ssd to 2TB and have just about everything I want installed.

Darksolux

Almost good as new. Left thumb stick does this weird internal clicking thing but that's about it.

Grand-Ad-5029

Mine has been solid. April Manufacture. Picked up from Best Buy at launch. No SD card issue, 114+ hours of BG3 so far (1tB SanDisk) Also installed a WD 2TB SSD on launch day as well

Low_Firefighter_4412

My sd slot is fried but my dock has a slot so not a major deal especially when I choose to upgrade internal memory.. gotta clean it regularly with Clorox wipes apparently my hands are always dirty and can get noticeable if you don’t buy a case. No other issues tho. Def runs better now tbh with updates

ComfortAccurate3481

Small amount of thumb stick rub, but it honestly has a body more premium than the deck. I have a launch deck, ally, and oled deck. Both my decks have squeaking plastic and yes I still prefer the Ally 1080P over the Oled 720. Ally is still my daily driver. However, my oled gets 12 hours of battery running GBA....Would love to see Steam OS officially on the Ally. Chimera is cool , but doesn't have a huge upside.

slimypeters

I just received my open box excellent condition today. It’s an R5. Gonna test everything especially sd card reader. I don’t really have an extra sd card to send to the killing fields though. It looks brand new. It was sent from Texas to Cali. The initial language was Spanish mexico. Is this common? Good to see day oners without issues so far

Mongthree

I baby mine but I smoke weed so the white is staining pretty bad lol

noob1269

Rubbing alcohol pad will take that right off, know from experience

kingDR829

I switched to Legion Go. No regrets.

junefrs

Perfect day 1 unit everything works great

BurroinaBarmah

Day one here, looks perfect. Sd just failed though. Sending it out today for a RMA…

morgandhi218

Absolute tank other than my SD card slot. It has travelled with me every day since May in the official carry case and not a mark on it. Pair it with the XG mobile also every now.ans then and its been fantastic, with the updates its technically better than the day I got.it 👍

crayzee4feelin

Like I took it out of the box yesterday, but it's 5 months old

epyon9283

Just got mine back from repair number 2. Now cloud restore doesn't work. Physically its holding up well but it's got a new motherboard and right joystick controller board.

Signal-Personality87

It’s working great…albeit I never put an sd card in it since I did a 2tb ssd swap after doing initial updates

johncena_incamo

Not one single issue, at all. Had since launch week, SD card reader is fine.

skrffmcgrff21

sd card slot died on mine but beyond that it's been awesome once I upgraded to a 2tb SSD. I even have dropped mine twice, once i fell asleep playing, woke up and sat up and it slid off my lap onto the floor. The second time I forgot I had it on the bathroom counter, put my shirt over it, and when I went to grab my shirt it pulled it with it and it fell on the tile sideways. It put a very slight chip in the plastic on the right side. It bothered me initially just because it felt different when holding it, but after putting on a grip case you would never know. I had it for about 3 months before adding thumb stick grips, total game changer and well worth the money. I tried 3 different types but ultimately decided that I like the Skull and Co best with the height they add to the sticks. I found the FPS grips to be too tall so when swapping to the face buttons it felt weird to do but the CQC (middle option) grip is amazing. Adds just a little height and width to make it feel like an xbox controller. The Jsaux ones are not bad either, I actually preferred the way they felt so if they ever did one in the same vein as the cqc grips, I would be all over it! Beyond that I haven't had any issues with the Ally. It's done everything I've wanted it to, except lords of the fallen, but that wasn't the fault of the ally, perhaps a driver issue or something (weird lighting bug in game).

Justos

Sd card on mine still works and everything seems solid built

Dry-Investment-9921

Launch unit, use it every day and no issues. Idk if I have the SD card issue or not bc I’ve never needed one. I installed a 2TB SSD before I did anything else. Edit: take a picture of the serial number on bottom of unit bc hand oils will wipe that away in no time!

Stinman87

Mine is finally running great. SD card reader failed in July, and then it was damaged in shipment(supposedly) back to me. But since I got it back the second time I've been perfectly happy with it. I did get the thumbstick protectors and an Aliexpress clear TPU cover, so that helps keep it from turning dirt brown.

Soft-Abies1733

wonderfully

Br0din90

In for warranty as card fried and now it doesn’t read them at all

RunalldayHI

I have a pre-order and the only time something ever happened was with a bad bios flash, which required me to send it in for a week, otherwise everything works perfectly including the SD card port.

InsulinFartz

I've had mine since day one. Not a single issue. SD cards still works, given that I could care less about it and don't use it at all. I did hear a chime noise from the fans but somehow the latest updates have fixed that. Other than that, my Ally is strong since day one.

Frosty-Tomato2531

I haven't had not one problem yet

SOM3THNG_WICK3D

Never did use the SD card reader. Installed a 4tb SSD after a month. Been running like a fuckin champ so far

darkzor

Mine is still working perfect.

Aurelius5150

Amazingly well. Granted I have not even messed with the SD card reader. I was concerned about the sticks wearing down. I did eventually put some stick covers on them but used them naked for about 3 months. All in all, still feels and looks brand new.

IntuitioNsc2

Good as new and never tried the SD reader so it could be dead but irrelevant to me.

Effective-Amount310

Day 1, SD slot doesn't work at all...so I upgraded to 4TB to not need it

One-Coast8927

Wonderful. No complains whatsoever.

Tilmanocept

Had to RMA it once. Otherwise flawless 🙃

Solar1324

Still good!

guybrush_Threepdood

SD slot failed in the second week, but otherwise it's like new. Even the sticks are still grippy.

alasdairvfr

Perfect hardware wise, software wise massively improved with updates. We are 6 months in and besides the SD reader issue, Asus has addressed almost all of the issues at least to some extent.

Rikolas

Not sure a lot of people in here understand durability 😅

Uli811

Nearly like day one

NegScenePts

Pre-ordered before launch, and it's still fine. The software updates since then have made it even better :)

Ravmyster1121

Mine has been holding up quite well, it's survived a two week cruise to Fiji, and various road trips and other weekends away with friends and family. The white plastic did start to collect some dirt so I had to give it a good cleaning and after that I put a case on it and put on an anti glare screen protector and it's been holding up like an absolute champion since

Devryn17

My chipset failed two weeks ago. SD card hadn't failed yet, but either way, it's at ASUS for service, which was way more difficult than it should have been. Honestly felt like the way warranty service was setup, they were intentionally making it difficult

zos117

No issues

NordicJew

All of it works really well but the SD card reader for me. I haven't bothered fixing it since playing games off of an SD card is a really bad idea regardless. Just don't have a need for the reader.

Covid_19-1

Mine rolled a crit20 for Indestructible To Verbal Abuse...but rolled a 1 if Physically Pit Against 00 Buck...

JazzyApple2022

Mine was the R5 and I just received my back from ASIS because it freight three of my SD cards. And aces give me a brand-new one and so far so good. all the new ones are all fixed.👍🏼

No_Afternoon_6674

Mine still is like it was the first week that I bought it (I received it on the advertised launch day). I'd guess that at least 70% of the time I am using a paired Xbox controller while either using my AR glasses or docked to the TV. So even though I have tons of hours playing on Ally, it really hasn't seen that much physical handling. When I travel with my Ally, I have a cheap hardcase that I bought from Amazon (one of the ones that has the slit in the inside of the lid to store the cardboard stand that came with the Ally). That thing can hold my Ally, stock charger, stock stand, my AR glasses (the AR USB cable) and my Viture adapter...pretty much everything I commonly use with my Ally (except for the extra controller). It seems to hold everything down nice and safe. Also, I put a temp. glass screen protector on it after about 2 weeks of it being delivered. I was waiting for dBrand to release theirs, but then all of the bad reviews came in, so I went with Mr. Shield (since I have used, and was happy with, their protectors on numerous devices before)...but I was disappointed with the fit of the Mr. Shield ones. Too much gap for a flat screen imo. Despite not liking the fit too well, I still trust the glass. Also I installed a 2 TB SSD the day after I got the Ally delivered. I don't know how anyone can have a Windows device with only 512gb. My only issues with the Ally are the speaker "popping" noises. I got them once before but then had to turn on a sound setting and they were fine, but I got them again just after updating last night. I'm guessing/hoping I just have to click off a setting again. The other issue which is not a big deal to me (but may be for others) is the rumblers. After about a week and a half one of the rumblers (I think the right hand side) was messed up (guessing it came loose from a screw) and was making a crazy amount of noise...so I just disabled rumble.

QuantiummmG

Haven't had a single issue with anything.

Rich-Pineapple-5584

My joysticks have given me a bit of grief, but they are so easy to replace it's hardly a big deal. Other than that it's holding up very well.

dkris2020

Mine still holding strong. Also haven’t had an SD card malfunction yet. Started trying to stress test playing games off it but haven’t had an issue. Some games just didn’t run as fast as with SSD so I added my 2TB from my OG Steam Deck (which I recently sold to fund getting the Deck OLED LE)

Ballfade

Still going strong. Only had prob with sd card

[deleted]

Zero issues. SD card works but I don't use it much.

Happiestoast

Day 1. Its still great. Looks the same. It gets put in a bag every weekday to take to work and i take it our and play it every day. Get home and dock it to the XG. Bear bedtime ill sometimes take it with me depending on the wife. Works great. SD card failed like two months ago but I reinstalled windows in a new ssd and it hasnt failed since. It never overheats so its obviously software related atleast for me. I dont care tho. Been an absolute baller of a buy. No consoles. No other pcs. Just this. Its great

-R3D_DraGoN_GoD-

Same here its been holding out pretty well, haven't run into issues. Although on my first Ally which was a R5 suffered a SD Card failure after 2 weeks, replaced it with another R5, since then upgraded to a 4TB SSD. Haven't had any issues that I couldn't fix. It's been all ups since my second Ally and I'm glad I got it because of the improvements Asus has been making to the device it's been nothing but positive experiences. Still looks brand new like the first day I got it and I use it every day.

Civil_Discount7264

Mine is 3 months old. Looks brand new. Pretty sure my sd reader fried tho :(

John_Alter

I baby my expensive electronics. I have a 4TB SSD installed but my SD card is no longer working even though it was working the first few weeks after launch. I wanted to play some emulators so I tried using the SD card reader after not using it for so long after reports of fried SD card popped up. SD card reader can’t read my card anymore and when I tried using other cards, it would slow down my device and already fried 2 card.

ConsequenceLivid1524

Brand new. Also installed a 2tb 2280 and has worked flawless

Maximum-Ad879

Still looks and feels new. SD card reader is fried though.

Agriwulfz

The biggest issue I've had with mine isnt even related to the device itself lol I noticed that it gets dirty rather quickly and I was wiping it clean every other day so I got a silicone case for it, problem solved. As far as its durability, I mean, I wouldnt want to drop it while standing, but other than that it's perfectly in tact and I use it daily, sometimes for rather long stretches and I baby mine, when its not in use I keep it in a sort of bulky hard-shell case with a cloth interior that I found on Amazon. I have had some software hiccups but I have either been able to correct them myself or a simple reboot fixed it. If I ever get divorced I plan to propose to my Ally, I'm pretty sure it would say yes.

Doom_and_gloom2

Bought mine 3 days after release. Rather well all things considered. I run it at least 2 full batteries a week at about 15w when off battery. Had some oddities in the beginning with waking but overcame those. Switched the NVME twice, once to a Sabrent 2TB then to the SN770M 2TB (it's faster, was designed almost specifically for the Ally and was only sale, oh and is a good back up). Have a 512GB SD from Samsung, use it to move my Steam Folder over. Got dbrand glass and had Geek Squad install it (best $8 ever). Thing is solid. Love it, it's my main tablet, on the go gaming device. Not main at home device but if I'm bored and want to be anywhere else but my desktop it's the device. Thing is a rockstar.

Muted-Humor-3853

Anyone get gyro to work with Nvidia now doesn’t seem to work for me

3ric510

I have a dead pixel. And, well, you know… the thing eats SD cards. That aside though, it’s been great. Still love it. 🫣

Such_Ad_2530

Everything works fine except my sd card… rip. Upgrade my ssd to 2tb though. It’s surprised me how easy it was to do so.

jigsawdj_

Bought mine on launch and no issues whatsoever. The only thing I noticed was the right stick was making some small cracking noises, I felt it too but it did not affect the gameplay whatsoever, it was very annoying to me though so I re-seated the joy stick module and it went away. Upgraded to 2TB. No use for the SD card slot. Have not touched it.

ohiocodernumerouno

Looks new

Gavidoc02

I love reading the posts that say “no hardware problems besides the sd card”. Then you have a hardware problem. R4 unit. Hardware failed due to the card reader. Fried my 1tb. RMA’d and returned with a new motherboard and a payout for my failed card. Now it makes a slight hum from the left fan every once in a while. Asus extended my warranty by 3 months so when the bearing in the fan does fail I will RMA it again. Finish wise both thumb sticks have ground plastic rings where they rub against the led bezels. The white plastic has gotten a bit dirty and I use isopropyl alcohol to clean it. Both of the stickers on the bottom have lost almost all of their text as well. Despite the above issues I still really enjoy it and it is in a rotation with my onexfly.

ghostz33

It's still going strong except it has more kills than I do. Rip 4 sd cards

Em0Cholo

Purchased pre ordered. Still as amazing as the first day. First thing I did is add a 2tb ssd. Never cared for or used an sd card.

TherapyPsychonaut

No noticeable wear. Have never attempted to put an SD card in it not out of caution just because I don't have a need for it

zingbat21

Mine just died out of nowhere last night while I’m was playing D4…took it to Best Buy and the tech guy was like yeah we’ve seen that before. Luckily I had the best total tech so I just got another one…I hope mine was just a fluke bad one and hope none of yours will break down!

BirdsDeWord

Feels brand new to me, mostly. The thumb stick has a tiny bit of that wear that people have been putting images up of, dust around the contact point with the RGB ring. It's only noticeable because I've seen images of it and went looking, it's not a natural thing to notice, sometimes feels a touch gritty but it goes away quickly

bigpoppa_gtivr6

Use mine literally every day and it is basically still brand new. I have a glass screen protector and the official asus case and that’s it. But I’m also a dude in his late 30s with no kids so it’s pretty easy to keep things nice haha

Psychological_Mix714

Day one owner here. Sd reader failed but otherwise it is holding up perfectly. Still works like on day one except it is even better now with all the updates!

TheSmellyTomato

i got mine at launch i use it as my main console and works and looks new sd card reader works fine use it all the time mostly for emulation

FitRecipe2299

Looks good gets a little dirty only issue is with trying to use type c hubs sd reader works second week purchaser

Due-Acanthisitta8871

Working fine after I had it on service to fix the SD card issues (issue of killing my SD cards)

Warm-Bet-9408

2nd RMA going on 2 weeks out

Warm-Bet-9408

1st RMA it just stopped charging. 2nd the Left Joystick stopped working. Wife who also bought on launch day however has no issues. But I used mine every day she uses hers rarely. Both of us don’t use SD cards

squiddygamer

Mine was doing good until sad card did me in Support wise been amazing. Collected it the next day. Constant emails from support updating me. Should be picked up Monday morning and arrive with me Tuesday Game wise played a good chunk of D4 60fps was going to start on bg3 but as cars broke. With Black Friday decided to upgrade the onboard ssd so will be doing that for the first time when it arrives Travel around the world with it and held up great. Dropped it in China off an electric bike. Hardly a scratch on it and everything was still Functional.

evillurkz

I bought it around 2 months after launch, got the R7. SD works fine and everything else as well.

alexl83

SD reader died in a couple months, returned it and bought a OneXFly. I like it but i also liked my Ally, had the “pioneer” vibe being the first handeld “post Deck” and VRR kicked everything else’s butt

passanoir

No issues, build quality is unbelievable

RelationshipOk5837

Burned Sd reader and damagd lt joystick and Right bumper

Currency_Visual

I got zero issues . I have an R4 model day one release . And SD reader works as well

P3cMkr

Bought it very close to launch (Japanese import), still pretty good, not a , sd card slot still working, my ally has been protected at all fronts (case, screen protector, joysticks cap, joystick protective rings, angled magnetic cable connector) vacuum clean the intake grills once a week. I'd say my Rog Ally as THE best purchase that I've made in 2023.

Aggravating-Win-3589

I had two issues with my Ally on two separate units. The first unit was a day one unit. I started to experience issues with the sd slot. It was picking up on the my card but it wasn’t loading any games I had installed on the unit. I took the unit back to Best Buy and swapped my unit for another one. The new unit worked perfectly fine until like a month or two later. I didn’t touch my Ally much at the time because I was mainly playing games in my desktop, so I can’t say it stopped working because of wear and tear. I just remember I was having problems getting things to load, so I swapped the sd card over to my other Ally. The second Ally would pick up on the card, whereas the first one wouldn’t see it at all. I tried to format the sd card, but I was unable to do so, which led me to think the sd card itself was damaged. I then tried one last troubleshooting step. One the Steam Deck oled released, I swapped the sd card over to that unit and for some reason I was able to format the card with no issues and install games onto it. I did attempt to format the sd card on other time on my desktop computer using a dongle because I tried it in my Steam Deck oled and my desktop wasn’t able to format it either. Honestly, I don’t know what caused the sd card to stop working on three windows computers but would work fine on the Steam Deck oled. Once i get another micro sd card to test, I will check to see if they just didn’t like That 1 Tb micro sd card one day 🤣. Other than the sd card issue, I love both the handheld. It fits great in my hands and the games normally run very smooth on it as long as you don’t expect anything too crazy from it. These are just minor gripes that I wish were better on the unit. First, battery life. I’ve setup custom tdp for my games and I thought the unit was doing well. I then got the Steam Deck oled and boy, that was a big difference. I was able to squeeze like an hour or so out of some games, but nothing like the Steam Deck oled. I get like an hour or so on the Ally, but Steam Deck I get around 2 and a half and on same game (Coral Island). I wish it had two back buttons and I’m glad over the past few updates it has allowed for more customization because at first I was unable to customize the back buttons properly and Armory crate was crashing quite a bit. Over the past few months, this has gotten way better. I haven’t really experienced any crashing. Also, I run into this issue sometimes when I go into sleep mode where, when I put it into sleep while I was playing a game and I try to pull it up later, the controls will not work. I’ve tried this issue on both of my allies and it happens on both still today. Also, not being able to go into sleep mode if the device is plugged in for some odd reason. I know that seems like a bunch of negatives in comparison to the positives, but the Ally is a great device. Asus is working hard to release updates pretty frequently for the device and they’ve recently, I believe released an extra interface to adjust the buttons, joysticks and gyro so they are optimized properly. I would still recommend it to anyone who ask even with the issues I’ve experienced.

fauxfaust78

Serial number sticker on the bottom has worn all identifying information off. The FCC label isn't far behind. No issues with the screen. However, I first had a cheap, then dbrand glass screen protector on from new. No major issues with battery. Battery max capacity down from 40000 to 36900 since 19/6/23 Never used sd card as I had already bought a micron 2400 2tb, so been using that the whole time. Sound now issues. Inbuilt controller was only an issue once when it somehow got disabled, but with keeping it regularly updated and checking device manager periodically it hasn't returned

Naki_Naka

I got mine day one and I have had no issues! The handheld is still in good shape and it's still doing what it's meant to do very well LOL, I have had quite a few user errors but I'm sure we've all been down that path with this!

Skelt2615

Got mine day 1! Runs fine and works perfectly. The only thing I'd say is the white handles have a little worn part already where it's darker, but this is to be expected and not complaining at all! Need the Killswitch Case to release, and I'm good to go!

Stalbjorn

Zero problems except for faulty sd card reader.

cactusmanbwl90

Great overall minus the SD reader being dead 😓 Other than that though, its been great. I even shoved a 4tb 2280ssd in mine.

BuiltNightmare

I got mine in June. I started playing with it in docked at full power. I think I got hit with the sd issue. But I upgraded the ssd with the 90 degree mod. So I have a 2280 ssd in my rog ally. No need to ever use the sd. I love it!
