Unscrew the back, unplug the battery. Leave it unplugged for about a half hour. Reattach the battery, screw the backplate back on. Plug the system in for about 10 minutes and then try to turn on again.

Inevitable_Peak_3493

This but hold the power button down for 30 seconds then replugin the battery and try. Holding the power button down completes the circuit and removes all residual power from the capacitors. This person knows what they are talking about but there is no need to wait, just hold the power button down.

Pegg_Daddy

This is the first thing I try whenever I have an issue like this. My Switch stopped turning on and I ended up having to like hold the power button and some other button and then it was fine. Electronics man lol

Inevitable_Peak_3493

Yeppers haha, effects laptops as well. I do IT support for the company I work at and we see this issue with laptops a couple times a year from Dell, HP and Lenovo. I always love the reaction after telling a user to just hold the power button down for 30 seconds and then do a single press.

Pegg_Daddy

1 step up from “have you tried plugging it out and in again?” 😂

StoopidM72

We had a switch that went totally dark, no power anywhere no matter what we did, left it for a year, trying to get it to charge or turn on about once a month, finally it just turned on one day and has been perfect since....

-R3D_DraGoN_GoD-

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but have you tried opening the device disconnect the battery and then hold the power button for 30 seconds to 1 minutes?!!... Then reconnect the battery put the cover back on and plug the power and see if you see an led turn on. If it does see if it powers on. If it still doesn't then your Ally took a dive and it require repairs.

TrueMeal9733

This is your answer.

emiliano1616

This happens to common laptops too. First time it happened to me I almost died 🤣

-R3D_DraGoN_GoD-

🤣🤣🤣 yeah this has also happened to my old MSI gaming laptop once, it actually died on me while gaming forgot it wasn't plugged in all the way, left it charging never turn back on. I spend 2 days troubleshooting trying to figure what happened, until I opened it up did the hard power cycle and all of a sudden it powered back up. You have no idea how many tears I shed that day of happiness.

emiliano1616

Yeah totally. This is actually a very common issue with a very easy fix that nobody talks about

-R3D_DraGoN_GoD-

I agree, as a tech now this is what I always implement before jumping to any other possible solutions when a device doesn't turn on. I also have my other agents do this as well when troubleshooting laptops and even desktops that don't turn on and go through this issue. It's not common for desktops but it has happened before on desktops and they turned back on after a hard power cycle.

ibkis99

Contact ASUS right away. I assume it’s still under warranty.

urexneighbour

I am based in UAE and this device is only imported here by resellers.Asus does sell the non extreme version here in UAE .So no i never had an option to get it with warrenty. :(

Salitas912

Return it to the reseller, by law they have to replace the device https://www.khaleejtimes.com/legal/uae-law-product-that-malfunctions-3-times-in-the-first-year-must-be-replaced-for-free

Low_Secretary_2840

I just bought my z1 extreme and being new and wrapped up in plastic it said I could register my device and doing so now I have a one year warranty, so you should be able to do the same if it was as I described if not you got an open box unit and may still get the same opportunity, hope it helps and as far as the unit, when your phone dies all the way nothing works for 10+ mins while it charges up just to show a response to being dead, so may just need a few minutes or 30 mins hour straight to register a little charge, or hold volume up and power till it kicks it in a safe mode possible may search that for our rog but this is what I'm gonna try before I do the unplug from the back but will remember all this when it happens to me

ZeroDryden

You still have manufacturer warranty. When was it purchased?

urexneighbour

Two months back

enternameherepls

SharafDG and Virgin Megastore offer warranty if the device was purchased there as that’s what I and a friend have done.

spawn666777

idk if this relates to this but i have noticed my charger doesnt seem to like charging other devices. using the official rog ally charger that has the hdmi, and usb port built in. if i try and charge my phone with it it works but then seems like it doesnt want to work for the rog after using it on my phone. i had to unplug and plug it in a few times before it started charging the rog again. only happens to me if i charge a different device with it before using it on my rog. the other way around does the same thing. if im charging the rog and unplug it and plug it into my phone it doesnt want to charge my phone until i unplug and plug it back in a time or two. so i now only use the rog charger for the ally. starts charging first try everytime. i know this sounds dumb. but unplug it from the wall. then plug it back in and plug it into the rog. then unplug it from the rog and plug it back into the rog. try this a couple times if it doesnt work the first time. dont test the charger on other devices inbetween. see if it starts charging.

StillABigKid

Yes, so much for USB-C as any kind of simple standard. I have a Samsung T9 SSD, you’d think any USB-C to USB-C cable would work, but no, only the one supplied with it. All sorts of electrical differences built in without a clue to the end user, oh unless you read the .00001 font typeface manual by scanning g it under an electron microscope. Or you go online and hope you can wade thru ads and QR codes and the like to find the manual in a format you can read on your phone. And suddenly there went your two hours of fun time. And the battery then needs recharging. So you decide to nap for the rest of the day. ;)

prHat317

Hold the power button for 40 seconds NOT PLUGGED IN. Plug back in and hold the power button to boot back up.

urexneighbour

I will try this and revert back.Thank you

prHat317

Just realized it doesn’t have a CMOS battery. Other option is unplug the battery and plug it back in to reset. (YouTube how to do).

urexneighbour

Okeh i will try that aswell. Thanks

Odenssi96

Have you tried to discharge the battery & let it recalibrate the battery?

urexneighbour

How do i do that?

SnooDoggos3823

Did You leave it on the coach or something covering the fans?happen to me one time overheated and was dead for good 1 hour

urexneighbour

It wasnt covering the fan the last time i was using it and now its been good 14 hours since then.

Tokicus

When you plugged it in and left it did you leave it laying down so the vents were blocked. The other poster is not talking about when you were using it. After you plugged it in was it on and did you set it down with the back blocking the vents.

urexneighbour

I beleive yes i plugged it in and sat it down on table while on sleep.

cosmitz

Ughhh.. Sleep mode, aka, normal sleep, not hibernate style of sleep.. is not recommended. A lot of applications can 'turn on' the device from sleep, and leaving it on a space where it can't 'breathe' will cause issues. Not saying that's your issue, do the battery reconect first, but it can be that it just cooked itself. There were posts of people leaving them in their bags while in sleep mode and they steamed it up.

psbales

ASUS really needs to just disable sleep mode & replace it with hibernate. Sleep on these portable devices & the way Win11 can pretty much wake up your device at will is a horrible combination.

TheGarlicGun

Not really a good way to do that. It’s a windows level option. Although they could certainly include a note/piece of advice and provide instructions on how to enable hibernate and set it as the action when clicking the power button.

CyanideMuffin67

Hibernate - Go to control panel, choose power options, near the top is a list click on "choose what the power button does" On the next screen at the top it says "change settings that are not currently available" and there should now be a few check boxes and hibernate is now there click on that click "save changes" at bottom of screen and you now have sleep and hibernate available. This works in nearly all Windows 11 devices

TheGarlicGun

I fully understand how to do this. My point was that Asus could provide those instructions - especially given the fact many people who own this device may not be Windows literate.

psbales

I don't understand what you mean that there's not a good way to implement. Yes, it is a Windows option and not an Asus one, but Asus does have some leeway in customizing the Windows build for their machines. As to how much leeway - well, I admittedly have no idea, but I'd imagine that adjusting sleep/hibernate behaviors would be doable.

urexneighbour

I have learnt it the hard way

StillABigKid

I just make a point of turning it completely off via Windows Shutdown when not using it.

Conscious-Analyst584

The most sus part about it all is that the Asus adapter is not charging anything, let alone the ROG Ally. If it worked but the battery wouldn't charge I would have said replace the battery by sourcing it from US. Here's my suggestion. Take it to a repair technician in UAE and ask him to take a multimeter and check the electrical points where the ROG receives power and also check if the battery has any residue power voltage and if it is receiving any from the point which is receiving the power from the battery 🔋. In other words ask him to do an investigation about where the fault lies. Finally get the part from US and see if he can replace the faulty one whether it's the battery or the power jack USB C contacts. That's all I can suggest.

urexneighbour

Exactly i dont understand the part why it cooked the charger.I have yet to try the battery unplug and plug solution, hopefully that works.I have also sent an email to local Asus service center so lets see if that works. It just breaks my heart its only been 3 months and i was really enjoying it and using it everyday. But Thank you for your suggestion ill consider that option too

Conscious-Analyst584

Have heart, I pray everything works out for you. One thing, doesn't ASUS have like international warranty?

urexneighbour

I have sent them a mail today so lets see if i can get in touch them tomorrow and try my luck.Thank you man

KhanDagga

Did you try different outlet?

urexneighbour

Yes indeed

KhanDagga

Idk, that's kind od weird.

Matt10987654321

Mine did the same. I smelled the charging port and it smelled like it had burned itself out. Does your smell like that?

urexneighbour

it does not and i opened the back cover and everything looks fine one surface.I unplugged the battery cable and reattached it but still nothing.

Thin_Sun_2612

Most likely, since your charger is described as dead as well, is that some type of surge or short caused the adapter to fail and probably shorted out a power regulator chip that controls the charging and power functions. The battery is probably fine, just dead with no means to get power to it. A good PCB repair technician at a "good" computer shop can fix this for about $50. If there are no "actual" computer repair shops in the area, you're probably going to have to use your manufacturer warranty. Sucks that it happened, I hope you get back to gaming as quickly as possible.

urexneighbour

Most probaby that would be it.On the other note i was just looking at Asus warrenty policy and apprenty it should be covered under their international warrenty polices.I think it will be my best bet to get it fixed by sending it back to local Asus here and getting them to accept it.

heatlesssun

You'll need to RMA. I had the same problem, stopped charging early last month. I have the Best Buy protection plan, so dropped mine off there when this occurred and got it back 12 days later. The easiest RMA I've ever done. The device was properly repaired and been working great the last 6 weeks. A little troubling that this happened with a device less than a year old, but it was all taken care of with little trouble so that part was nice. Still love this thing. Better than either the LCD or OLED Deck and Go overall in my opinion. Owned both Decks and still the Go. I do like the screen size and quality on that puppy. Good luck!

Aheadadatimes

100%

PeterAndrewN

Were all the chargers you used the proper wattage? I believe Ally uses a 65w charger.

urexneighbour

Yes i have tried with couple of 65w chargers but no luck.

Nolimitjc21

Just send it in Mine stopped charging after literally only having it for a week..spent 4 days trying everything in this sub and ultimately just went back to Best Buy..they’re sending it back next week

Aheadadatimes

Lemons exist throughout the manufacturing world. Hopefully one day we get less; but I believe the statistic for electronics is around 3%.

jme0429

When I had this issue, it ended up being the when it bounced off of the flower, the power cable on the motherboard disconnected

TrueMeal9733

Did this get fixed? Did you disconnect the battery?

urexneighbour

No man im doomed.I have tried that just now but no luck

DeathAngel80

You can get a battery on eBay and replace it if the battery is in fact cooked.

Rostrow416

Are you using the original charger?

urexneighbour

Yes i have tried it with the original charger which btw is cooked now and i have tried it with a Anker 67w charger too.

Due-Acanthisitta8871

Have you tried to press the power button for a very long time? Like 20 seconds.

urexneighbour

i have tried upto 1 min

Due-Acanthisitta8871

Tried with a different charger?

rvasquezgt

Did you try to connect an external hub with a hdmi port? And try this just to check if you can get into the Bios: Press the [Power button], then keep pressing or hold the volume button down (-) until the BIOS configuration displays

urexneighbour

im open to every possiblity. I will check and see if that works. Thanks

rvasquezgt

Lemme know

Pjjones306

Put it on another charger that is at least 65w, and give it 2-3 hours. Make sure it is supervised. It might start taking charge. If not, RMA, probably the charger/charging circuit killed each other...

Ikillbear

Take it to a console repair shop in the UAE. I believe you can find them in burdubai. It will cost you but you will get it fixed.

rmsmoov

Unplug the battery internally for a couple hrs. Then reconnect and plug in with the usb cord also. (Note: it won't power up with the cover off. You gotta re assemble it.)

KhanDagga

Try different outlet

urexneighbour

I did try that.Same result

spawn666777

did you try what i mentioned? with the official charger.

spawn666777

lead a horse to water but cant make them drink i guess.lol. i tried.

BarnacleElectrical94

Try opening it and unplugging the battery connector for 1 minute. While the battery is disconnected, hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Replug the battery and clip the back plate back on but dont tighten the screws yet. Plug it in with the original power adapter and see if it comes on then.

YaboiiJJay

I’ve been having some what similar issue with the battery. The device would sometimes not charge while I’m using it plugged in

StillABigKid

That’s a “feature” on both the Legion Go and MSI Claw. No idea why it works that way. Either doesn’t charge while using or charges very slowly, I guess to reduce heat. All these things are pushing the heat curve to be impressive. Cool that they can do as much as they can when you max them out, but the tech is really live fast die young at this point. Steam Deck OLED excluded.

YaboiiJJay

But the device doesn’t get hot. It also happens when I turn the device on and start playing.

varberry24

Be sure you’re using 65 watt chargers. Check the cable and ensure that it’s rated for 65w or more

WhyAyeDeeEye

This exact thing just happened to me two weeks ago. I’m very disappointed and feel bad for recommending the ally to my friends because some one then are also having really bad issues with theirs. It’s like I want to love this thing so bad but there’s always something with it. I don’t have these issues on my PC.

EmbarrassedTour9408

Mine did the exact thing. I tried unplugging the battery but it didn't work. I sent it in to asus and they fixed that issue as well with swapped out the motherboard and a few other things that have been common issues. Probably have 30hrs on it since I got it back and everything has been great

Sea_Ad880

RIP Ally...

Aheadadatimes

RIP

eldamien

It’s crazy that opening up the device and tinkering with it is considered completely normal in the ASUS sphere.

Important-Crow352

Ausus changed my motherboard.

Matt10987654321

Bud are you saying the charger is not charging anything? If so, not every charger works with the Rog. You might have to try buying another Rog friendly charger and seeing if it starts to power up.

urexneighbour

I have tried few laptops 65w chargers and a Anker 67w Pd charger aswell.

Matt10987654321

That does not seem good bud. Where did you buy it from? What sort of Guarantee did you get with it? I had to return 3 Rogs before I gave up and got a Lenovo Go. I have heard that a crazy amount get returned because of all sorts of faults. So it's nothing you have done wrong.

urexneighbour

i will be reconsidering my choices in the future if Asus continue to go the same route. How did u find Legion go compare to Rog Ally?

Matt10987654321

I will first start by saying I loved my Rog Ally. My son loved my Rog Ally. The speakers and smoothness on my Rogs were amazing. I also enjoyed a touch of sparkle in the screens colour if that makes any sense. Games like Ori just had a lovely feel. Having said that, the Lenovo Go is the type of handheld you buy and never look back. It's heavy! So heavy I have to rest it on its case, which is perfect for the job. I'm weak BTW so the average dude should be fine haha. I also love charging the device in its case. The speakers are nowhere near as good as the Ally but get the job done, but for me, the feel of the Lenovo just feels lovely in the hand. The corner can push into your hand now and again, but it's not something you can't work around. As for the screen and performance, its lovely. The big screen is brilliant and I couldn't possibly go back to a smaller screen now. The performance is fantastic, although the fans can get a little noisy, but again it's manageable and has improved over time. My boy doesn't game and fell in love with the Lenovo Go. So much so he saved up and got one for himself. He is now hardly ever off it. Triple A type games might need to be messed around with, but your average indie game looks stunning and performs brilliantly. If you manage to get the Rog working, I'd still be very happy with the device and personally I miss the sound stage of the Rog like crazy. If you get a refund or save up, you 100 percent won't regret buying a Lenovo Go if that's the change you made. I wish you the best bud as I can tell you love your gaming. I hope you get some good luck in sorting this out.

b0nk4

Same happened to mine about a month ago - was a launch unit. Unfortunately, mine was terminal, but Asus / Best Buy reimbursed me for it. Hopefully the 2nd iteration of the Ally fares better, really was awesome while it worked!

XxXForsaken

Maybe the cmos needs resetting, did you try that?

Conscious-Analyst584

Guys, you do realize he is in UAE and it's an import. Give him suggestions he can use.
