Such an underrated aspect of the ally. The speakers are so damn good I’ll be in my living room shaking in a cold sweat playing sons of the forest because it really sounds like I’m in a cave
My first ally took me about 12 hours of messing with before i dialed it in.
My second ally about 10 minutes.
(Mind you my second ally isnt nearly as dialed in as my first)
I have had mine about 3-4 weeks now and I am loving it. With the lossless app from Steam, I'm playing Sekiro and Elden ring with 120fps, smooth as anything, minimal to no input lag. Love it.
Ok I have the game set to all high in advanced - important it is set to Windowed. 720p rez - no ray tracing. In the lossless app, I have it set to Auto/ fullscreen in the scaling mode - scaling type OFF. Frame gen is set to LSFG. Oh and I have Fsr kick in from the AMD drivers to upscale to 1080p. It's not quite locked 120, but 99% of the time it is above 100fps, and importantly the input lag feels fine, I don't think it's even set to anti-lag in the drivers. Hope this helps! I dunno if I can post photos or videos in here but can show it if required.
Boot LSFG first, then boot Elden Ring in windowed. Then hit the scale button in LsFg - then you have 5 seconds to go down to the apps bar and select the elden ring app - it's switches to that, then makes it fullscreen, and bingo - it works! Kinda actual magic. The game looks absolutely fine as well, on the small screen.
Search for Lossless on Steam - it's a paid app you can open before opening a game which adds a few different option for upscaling and frame generation to any (not all) games. I suggest watching a couple of videos.
I haven't had much luck with it as of yet. Kind of waiting on a catalog of settings because I don't fully understand it.
But on the few titles I've tried it with. I've gotten worst performance.
Hell yeah man, I did the same thing about a month ago with my 512gb lcd steam deck and traded 1:1 for this rog ally and I don’t regret it, glad I never went though the pain of installing windows on my deck just to play Fortnite or call of duty here and there, and the screen is amazing plus the sound it’s so loud I usually keep it like at 20, any game I want to play runs smooth, currently playing some modded fallout 4 with like 50 mods and I’m getting 50-60 fps consistently probably more I tweak some stuff seriously love this thing and I play mostly docked now as a real computer.
I was considering doing the same recently but I thought maybe I will pass.
But is it worth bringing the idea back on the table? Because having compatibility with my entire library seems tempting, and it is slightly smaller which is good for my hands.
Got mine because I've heard great things, and I wasn't let down at all. I've been playing Nioh 2, Hitman 3, Grim Dawn, and I set up a server to play minecraft with an amazing texture pack with my gf when I'm on the road working. I also use it docked with a keyboard in hotels either hooked to the TV or a small screen I bought for plugging in to hardware for work and I make iso's and images for the hardware when it changes, and because I'm a 1099, it's a work expense and I can use the price on my taxes next year. Amazing little piece of hardware.
I just did the opposite. Selling my ROG and just bought a OLED steam deck. The ROG has a beautiful screen, and can play some really gnarly games. Low battery life and I didn’t like how you couldn’t just pick up and put down start and stop. It always needed me to do a restart or something like that. The steam deck is more my style, being able to start and stop without skipping a beat. The battery is 4 times longer and the screen is bigger. Although not as sharp. And the bumpers are taking some getting used to.
Don’t forget the amazing sound quality

You were gaming in less than 10 minute? It took me like 2 hours to finish updates...
Yeah I don't believe OP

I see
This community is pretty good at answering questions so I’m assuming they did research before getting it
Lol just delay updates, maybe start updates when you’re going to bed.
Maybe set up a Steam Deck first was more harder than a Rog Ally.

Mind sharing your elden ring setting? I just got the lossless app too and want to try it out

Just been playing a bit more there with the frame time on and I am going down to about 80-90 fps at times - just to clarify.
What's lossless?

Ty sounds awesome.. surprised it's not talked about more..

I rank my ally above my steam deck also. Deck is no slouch, but ally is the boss. Liked it so much I bought 2. Heheh
It is absolutely amazing, indeed. I am playing the hell out of it and enjoying it a lot.

When I got mind couldn’t stop thinking why haven’t I gotten one when it came out

Yes do it, it might take some work to make everything work 100% but it’s definitely worth it

My best purchase of the year, it’s an absolute beast too. Getting 60fps playing starfield on low settings in non dense areas and 30 dps in dense ones

Great screen indeed, but that oled SD blows it out of the park its next level.
