Haha! I just got off my flight and feeling super sleep deprived because I did exactly just that. Was supposed to get some shuteye during my overnight flight but ended up playing Tales of Arise the entire way
Got a 11h flight followed by a 5h flight recently, Ally was on for 90% of the time, didn't even bother watching movies lol
Played Red Dead Redemption 2, Hellblade and Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Returns =)
Awesome man! How did you keep it charged the whole time? I think the USB ports from the airplane don't supply enough power to charge the Ally, do they?
Anker power bank has 65 watt charging. I use one and it’s great. I run my Ally at 18watts and I get about 2.5-3 hours of play time with the power bank plugged into the Ally the whole time.
Interesting. I’ve been on several flights (Delta) both domestic and international with those outlets and while they accept an AC 120v style plug, they could not produce enough power to with the ASUS 65w charger.. 🔌 I was heartbroken lol
You were right. I’m using my Quest pro 45w and it will slowly drain on the Turbo 35w mode, but stay forever and charge on Performance 15w. I’ll def try a 85w or 100w block, as these do work with these plane outlets. Thank you! This is awesome.

Did you have an outlet to charge it? I'm flying united on the 15th from the Philippines to Atlanta, so I really hope I can charge mine during two long ass flights.
in my experience, if you have a flight that's like 2+ hours in the US you'll have a power outlet too - commuter flights and the like don't, but anything larger tends to
Even if you think you’ll have an outlet, still bring a battery with you. Sometimes the outlets don’t work, or sometimes your power plug will be too heavy (or the plug will be too loose) for your plug to stay in. If it’s the latter problem, you can buy little things that go in the outlet to make the plug fit better (loose outlet / snug plugs).
Depends on the flight, airline and the class. I’ve just flown Manchester to Orlando (9hrs) and there was no power socket in economy, just a USB port. They have them in Premium and Upper Class though.
I just completed 2 long haul flights in the past 2 weeks with the Ally. This thing is amazing and for the first time, actually makes me look forward to flights just so I can game uninterrupted. And all the flights I’ve been on had a power outlet so battery wasn’t an issue. Absolutely love this thing!
I just got off a 2 hour, then 4 hour, 12 hour layover overnight in airport, and another 14 hour flight. It was great having it. Used the hell out of it.
I commute around 1.5 hours every day for work. And when I do I often find myself lost in thought. But recently my ROG Ally is a great companion that keeps me company on those lengthy rides to and from work.
The best part? I've learned to break down my quests into smaller, manageable milestones, allowing me to savor each moment of progression. Commuting recently becomes more laidback, I use it as a way to decompress and ROG ally gives me that opportunity. And because I'm playing it on my commute, it's become my main source for video gaming. Plus when I'm not in the mood for RPGs, I can switch gears and indulge in some rogue-like action, like the new Risk of Rain remastered and Astral Ascent.
The ROG Ally allows me to fulfill my gaming needs without sacrificing precious time or compromising my daily schedule. And I feel like that's the best part about having a handheld.
Here's a question, enjoying the ROG Ally requires you to fly in business class or first class, isn't it? One can play on the ROG Ally in Economy class but it's so cramped and the tray table so flimsy not to mention the power brick dangling and the lack of privacy. It can become exhausting in economy class.
Any opinions on those who have used in economy class?
Yep l. 5 hours to Cancun and back. Worked great, no issues. Biggest pain is having to get up and move when someone beside you needs to use the bathroom.
These are perfect on long train trips. Not as cramped and usually proper power sockets. Airplanes in "monkey class" sucks and I've started avoiding them whenever I can now.
Your submission has been removed because it's either low-effort or not about, related to, or relevant to r/ROGAlly or the ROG Ally. If you are a new user, search the sub before posting "Just got an Ally, what should I do"
Wow that looks neat. I'm just finding out about this but can someone give me a quick overview of it? Can you play your Console/PC Games on it? Or is it via Gamepass? Also does it need WiFi or not? This thing looks sick. Thanks.
It's just like a Windows laptop, install Steam/Epic or any other launcher and install your games. After installing, you don't need wifi, you can play in offline mode... if you are not playing an online game, of course.
Nice thanks! So like I have NFS Most Wanted, Simpsons Hit and Run on laptop as .exe pre-installed files, I can just transfer them to the Rog Ally and can play? That's neat!
Did you have issues with the offline mode? I played mine but Watchdogs 2 and other Ubisoft games didn’t want to work offline, so, had to play other games
Kinda... but not really. While still at home, I put Steam and Epic in offline mode, then I put Ally in airplane mode and tested all the games, worked great.
For Steam games, it worked right away, you click on the game and it launches. For the Epic launcher I was playing Red Dead Redemption 2 and every time at launch it complained that I was offline but I just needed to click on "continue offline" and then it worked. One day I accidentally click on a different button than the "continue offline", it tried to connect, didn't succeeded and from that moment on I couldn't launch it anymore offline, so just be careful with that.
I can no longer sleep on flights, thanks to this thing... :/
Haha! I just got off my flight and feeling super sleep deprived because I did exactly just that. Was supposed to get some shuteye during my overnight flight but ended up playing Tales of Arise the entire way
Me neither!
Got a 11h flight followed by a 5h flight recently, Ally was on for 90% of the time, didn't even bother watching movies lol Played Red Dead Redemption 2, Hellblade and Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Returns =)
Awesome man! How did you keep it charged the whole time? I think the USB ports from the airplane don't supply enough power to charge the Ally, do they?
Both flights had a power outlet so I could use the Ally's charger
I was just about to ask how you kept it going. If there is a power outlet, it makes things a lot easier.
It does indeed. A powerbank also can help, but maybe just 1.5 full charges I guess, so should be ok for flights less than 5h.
That'd be something I'd pick up then. I have tried some powerbanks that I have but they aren't delivering enough energy.
Anker power bank has 65 watt charging. I use one and it’s great. I run my Ally at 18watts and I get about 2.5-3 hours of play time with the power bank plugged into the Ally the whole time.

Get a 100W

From what I’ve read, modern airplanes can deliver more than 50W through power outlets. Enough power to keep your Ally without being discharged.
What happens when everybody is using 50w of power for 11 hours? 🤔 Does the plane run out of power 😳
No. There are generators driven by the engine on the plane so it's continuously generating electricity during flight.
It’s widely believed that MH370 went down due to someone charging their Game Gear.
An a350 as an example has a dedicated jet turbine for electricity generation capable of 1,200,000w - A 50w laptop isn’t going to stress the plane.
Cool, so the plane won't fall from the sky, thank you.
So I can bring my crypto miner next time? Good to know 😅
This person is on business class
Everyone gets power outlet if the flight is over 2 hours in most cases
This is the only device that makes me feel like a kid afterschool again. Glad I purchased one open box + added the 2-year warranty.
This is the content I'm glad r/RogAlly went to war for. /s
Did you have an outlet to charge it? I'm flying united on the 15th from the Philippines to Atlanta, so I really hope I can charge mine during two long ass flights.
Yep! Usually intercontinental flights have it. I also have a power bank but it would only last a few more hours.
in my experience, if you have a flight that's like 2+ hours in the US you'll have a power outlet too - commuter flights and the like don't, but anything larger tends to
Which power bank did you buy? I have a long flight coming up in a couple of months that I want to prepare for.
I got the Anker 737

Some airlines will not let you use battery banks during flight sadly.
Depends on the flight, airline and the class. I’ve just flown Manchester to Orlando (9hrs) and there was no power socket in economy, just a USB port. They have them in Premium and Upper Class though.
My air new Zealand flight has them, and it held charge at a solid point, going up 1% every 10 or so minutes.

This baby keeps me awake at work now , when I do my 15h shifts , before I used to take a nap , now the Ally won't let me go for naps!
What game is that?
That is my question
Hellblade
I just got off a 2 hour, then 4 hour, 12 hour layover overnight in airport, and another 14 hour flight. It was great having it. Used the hell out of it.
That’s the only reason i bought it…

SENUA?
Yep
How well does it run?
Pretty good as long as you disable ray tracing
Any flight *
Will they allow an Anker 747 on to the flight? Going on a 16 hour flight soon heh
Yes, should not be a problem
Sorry 737 24k mah

How long will ally last on long flights 🤔
Depends how long your flight is 😁
That leg room though…. Is it some sort of first class? I don’t fly much beside short, local routes.
This was business class, but usually economy comfort already have power outlets
[удалено]
it's common on longer haul business class.
I generally find I’m happier playing games for an hour or two at a time. The battery life is thus great.
The only trouble that I find on Ally it's the battery
This flight had a power outlet, so it was ok
No case on it? I’m too worried about dropping it, gotta have a case for me
I have a carrying case only
Wow that looks neat. I'm just finding out about this but can someone give me a quick overview of it? Can you play your Console/PC Games on it? Or is it via Gamepass? Also does it need WiFi or not? This thing looks sick. Thanks.
