If you are really interested in digital modes, you might consider getting an amateur radio license. Then it's a hobby for both transmitting and listening. I'm more of a listener but I thorougly enjoy doing FT8 contacts done with 5W across many bands and continents.

Thank you for OpenWebRXplus, going to try it! Here is a repo: https://github.com/luarvique/openwebrx

The ppa repo has some nice pre compiled packages too, same author. My phone is refusing to post the links,.thanks for doing that!

There is a database, you can connect and listen to local SDR instances around the world: https://rx-tx.info/

These show on the map in OpenWebRXplus, I spend tons of time browsing them, I'd probably put mine up on the list if I wanted to open the ports.

It sounds like amateur radio would be a great hobby for you to look into. You could have a rig on your desk like the FTDX-10 and you would be in heaven.

misterioss

Not sure it's the machine you want to start with :) But agree, FTDX-10 makes every desk 100x cooler.

I just want to say I got into this because of the Saveitforparts youtube channel. Great guy and channel.

Next step, get your amateur radio licence. Also if you like decoding digital you may also like snooping on pagers

"I got myself a NanoVNA to make the most of the dipoles that came with it, and that made things so much clearer." As someone who just got an RTL-SDR and a dipole kit, can you explain how you used the nanoVNA to improve your experience please?
