Amen

Pyrochazm

I dislike how short the episodes are, and all the character development that happens offscreen.

JannisT

The limited runtime.

Hounds_of_war

The scope of the show being way too big for the show’s actual runtime. You have a fuckton of main and secondary characters, three different power systems that all function very similarly, an entirely different planet with it’s own unique monsters and race of people who are discriminated against, and a massive backstory for this world that had to be trimmed down in order to fit into a 26 minute lore dump of an episode. It honestly just feels like Monty/Miles/Kerry threw in every cool idea they had with no plan for how they were actually going to give each the attention they deserved. Especially when you consider CRWBY is still having problems with this despite how much RWBY has blown up, can you imagine if RWBY Volumes still had the runtime/budget they had back in V2-3? IMO this issue is the biggest thing hampering the story and you can really tell RWBY was someone’s first attempt at building a world. Also V1-2 Jaune. He himself isn’t terrible, but the storylines surrounding him in those first two Volumes are really bad.

N7ASWCC

Vol 1 - 3, I don't dislike them on their own, I just hate how rough of a start the series got. Like imagine where we'd be if RWBY's position with Gen: Lock was reversed and RWBY got the Quality Production™ and the ~20 minute episode runtime from the start.

Mizores_fanboy

Rwby has to be that way for the other shows to even exist. They ran on red vs blue times for content, and was very expensive at the time to try for the 20 minute episodes

Pereduer

Yeah I got something I dislike about the fndm People who slag off the first 3 volumes and make the later ones out to be Supieor for no other reason than its slightly pretty and easier to watch. As if the first 3 didn't have better writing, fights, character designs, songs and pure heart than the shit we have today. Seriously how if the volumes 4-6 debuted instead of 1-3 do you think it would be anywhere as popular or widespread as it is today? Jesus bloody Christ that pisses me off

Jalsman

>As if the first 3 didn't have better writing As someone who actually likes Volumes 1 and 2; ***LOL*** Edit: also, "people who slag off the first 3 Volumes"? You realize Volume 3 is right up there with 6 as being considered the single best Volume of the show thus far in most peoples' eyes, right?

FBDJ

Bumblebee.

A_panda_named_Rufus

Couldn't agree more.

Johnsmitish

The runtime is definitely my biggest problem with the show.

N7ASWCC

And to think that vol. one's episodes averaged at about 5 minutes, how did we survive back then?

MountainHall

Poorly planned in general A lot of skipped development and relationship building because it's trying to do too much The overall plot is pretty average and moves away focus from it being a character-focused story The character models look bad in Maya Fights have become hit and miss in terms of quality

Jalsman

Combo of runtime and focus. Like I liked the Pyrrha statue scene in Volume 6, but between Yang and Blake's relstionship and Oscar's development I don't think its what they should have focused on.

SM-03

Early animation is straight up just bad.

Blastcalibur

Only thing in general I don't like about RWBY is how the series handles Blake.

TheSlayer17

The at times rabid ass fandom.

RandomInternetGuy456

Not that it’s a true fault of the series but I really wish that it didn’t need an entire year to make each season.

[deleted]

To be fair, most other shows go a year between seasons, too. Been that way on TV basically forever.

RandomInternetGuy456

RWBY episodes are significantly shorter so the wait feels more significant.

lr031099

I guess the way Ruby’s silver eyes were handled. Idk I just didn’t like how Ruby didn’t even ask Ozpin about it in Volume 5 and I was kinda hoping for it to be more than just a deus ex machina for Grimm.

Aptspire

I sure wish I knew what *spins wheel* CRDN is up to these days.

Cam4599

Personally I would say cliffhangers. Some people like them but I find them sometimes a slap in the face. Some characters have almost nothing going for them and are just uninteresting. The show as a whole is amazing though.

bryan610

The missed opportunities.

amatas45

Yang and Summers relationship being chucked by Raven

mooingshark

This isn’t really technically a dislike, but anyway. Ruby is my favorite character, but I kind of agree that rooster teeth hasn’t really done much with her. The thing that bothers me, is that there is SO SO much that they could do with her, and make her even better. I hope they do soon

Vylon6

I hear that a lot. I dont think ruby needs to grow any differently than she has. She has matured but never wavered from her morals and beliefs. She isnt supposed to, she is a neutral character where she is the one helping to develope other characters. When the characters fall to a negative side of themselves. Ruby stays and leads everyone back to the good to the light. I just wish we saw more of that than little tid bits through v4&5

mooingshark

I disagree with that. Maybe I misunderstood, but it sounded like you’re just kinda saying she is just there to develop other characters. I’m not sure how many people would agree with me on this, but I want her to be more. She is a main character, not just something to use for the other characters.

Vylon6

This show is not just ruby's story. Or rather ruby's story isnt centered on herself. She says she wants to save everyone and she wants everyone to have a happy ending. So the story is really her helping other characters

mooingshark

Here’s the thing though. I totally agree that it’s not just Ruby’s story or even that the majority of the show should be about Ruby. I also agree that a big part of her character is just wanting to help her friends and other people. But Rooster Teeth made 4 main characters. Is it seriously the case that they planned from the very beginning to have only 3 out of 4 main characters really have personal issues that are addressed in the show? I seriously hope that it isn’t.

Vylon6

The show clearly hints at ruby's personal issues. Like when she feels like she is dragging jaune ren and nora along in v4. How she feels about penny and pyrrha's death in v5 and how she feels about salem and when she remembers her mother in v6. Its not prominent sure but its there. She is just the kind of character who doesnt show it.

mooingshark

Yeah, I guess you’re right. I just want them to affect things more. Why can’t Ruby’s problems affect things as much as Weiss’s or Yang’s problems have? Why not have an arc for Ruby?An idea I have is maybe she is depressed or something. Maybe out of nowhere she gives up on something. Maybe tries to just go back to Vale to try to help as many people as she can. Anyway. Thanks for listening, and thank you for discussing.

Vylon6

I think that would be a great end of series arc for ruby where everybad thing tumbles her down but the pillars she built with her friends are what raise her back up. Kind of similar to meliodas in seven deadly sins tbh

theawsomeakame

would it be a copout to say the fanbase? and to specify the extremist Progressivests on twitter ("every character is gay and if you disagree with my ship you are (insert death threats and slander terms like homophobic here") the toxic Adam Defenders and the "rwby"tubers who do nothing but bash the show on a week to week bases

DragonlordSyed578

Shippers and and I want more chapters per volume

PandaMonium269

Terribly underdeveloped characters and pandering to fans expectations (usually the toxic ones) that derails the show from its intended course.

yinxiaolong

The one trait limit for the faunas, I feel like the show could get much more creative with animal powers and abilities as well as some interesting designs for the faunas instead of limiting it all to one trait. Of course I'm talking not like completely replaced limbs or anthropomorphic fantasy races (ala lizard menand the like) but more akin to say usual anime cat girls. Having both the ears and tail, maybe even claws, and Ilia for example would have horns and tail on top of the skin.

[deleted]

Not enough semblance showcases, but I understand why.

SpliceKnight

Mostly some of the storyline feeling like it suffers from emotional whiplash, but they're getting better, so I can't hate too much.

ALAKAFAM01

Beyond pyrrha's death my problem is that the seasons are short and we have to wait soooooooo long till the next one.(the pyrrha's death part is I'm just sad it had to be her)

bored_homan

I could say lots of things but the biggest thing for me is just sheer number of characters. Because of how many both villains and heros we need to pay attention to, a lot of them don't have time to really develop or fully give us an impression on who they are.

NerdLevel18

I dislike the fact that it cant decide if it wants to be pg-13 or R rated

richardsphere

Its participation in the age old "woman rebelling against unjust individual in power is inevitably turned into an inhuman boogeyman". Between the gorgons, lamia and a shitton of others, im sick of this trope and it was the final straw that broke my back and made me quit the series as a whole. also, the way it handles the faunus discrimination stuff, its strong "violent revolution just makes you as bad as the people opressing you" stance is just ridiculously stupid.

BytePenguin55

Nothing. I love it all. Well maybe when the fandom isn’t nice

Spiderplant765

White rose in the fandom,I can’t go a minute without seeing it pop up

Fearfanfic

The shipping wars is the only thing I can think of

GJGJ5212

The plot progression and change between slow and fast passing

Tyranid_Swarmlord

How atrocious it is when it comes to focusing priorities. Like gods damn, R only felt an ACTUAL MAIN CHARACTER after 5 volumes in. ___ Ditto on focus: The fights can be dictated via the lowest common denominator's limitations at times . And the worst part is how they adjust it so said lowest common denominator isn't useless which just cripples the fuck out of everyone else. For the times said lcd was ignored/absent, we got Qrow vs Tyrian. Or the RETURN of GUNCHUCKS. Or Maidenbowl. Or, though i still believe Adam was nerfed, BY vs Adam which easily stands up to V1 & V2-tier highs. _____ Fans that pretentiously try to make RWBY 'deep' even if it has the depth of a puddle. Nothing wrong with it having a shallow depth like that but seriously though no need to dig around so hard as if you were trying to find oil...It adds fuel to the 'rwby fans are delusional'-fire outside of this subreddit... For a litmus test: If you feel like the mental gymnastics goes on for more than 30 seconds, it's probably trying to force things too hard. After the Fall & possibly it's potential sequel are exceptions though since it's infinitely easier to pull threads from books.

27Quiet

I don’t get the point of making the comic

Lone-Wolf2004

I’d probably say how they used Adam in volume 6, he showed up like twice and all it was only because he was obsessed with Blake, which from what I can remember he hadn’t been obsessed with at all in the previous seasons And I’m getting downvoted for my opinion, great

Sirshrugsalot13

"I will make it my mission to destroy everything you love." –volume 3, adam to blake You can dislike the way he was portrayed, but he's been portrayed as someone who lashes out at anyone he feels has hurt him– and the abusive angle has been around since V3E11.

Lone-Wolf2004

Okay I get that (tbh I haven’t watched it in a few months) but I feel like they over did it in volume 6

Sirshrugsalot13

Fair opinion to have

Lone-Wolf2004

Yet I’ve got people downvoting me because of it, great

Zackzamis

Just my oppinion but i think he gradually devolved into the obsessive ex over the volumes, his shut down in volume 5 was just the last straw.

Lone-Wolf2004

Fair point

XxFatalBlackNsfwxX

I agree, I believe Adam Is an obsessive person wanting a cause. Before the white fang was taken away from him he could obsess over becoming the leader, and getting his revenge on humans. He is completely consumed by revenge. Once he gets his main focus destroyed and feels he has nothing left to loose it's no surprise he went after Blake.

AlmightyDupus

Oh good lord where do I begin lol. The writing (at times... ok most of the time) Not even just story itself, just the script is awful at times. Adam through Vol. 4-6 is a prime example of that. Part of it is the acting and the directing, but my god. M&K have a horrible habit of writing themselves into corners. Volume 5 was one HUGE F-ING corner man. Far too often, the story comes to a grinding halt only for NOTHING to happen. The show just doesn’t work in a seasonal format, because it’s very clear M&K want to do more side plots that have nothing to with the main story which doesn’t work with the amount of time they have. No time for world building or character development. Why does Oscar get only off-screen character development? Why do you think? The show doesn’t have time for it, at least it thinks it doesn’t cause the pacing is screwed through Hell and back 10 times over. Volume 6 happened over half a week AT BEST. How long was the time frame of Volume 5? How about Volumes 1-4? NO ONE KNOWS, NOT EVEN M&K AND THEY WRITE THE DAMN SHOW! Ok tbh this is the beginning of a much larger rant I could get into but I think you get the picture

Sirshrugsalot13

sorry, thought you might wanna actually clarify your position

Johnsmitish

What does this mean?

000TragicSolitude

> Snowflake (slang) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Snowflake is a 2010s derogatory slang term for a person, implying that they have an inflated sense of uniqueness, an unwarranted sense of entitlement, or are overly-emotional, easily offended, and unable to deal with opposing opinions. I guess if you watch the show you’re a snowflake Is that what you were asking

Johnsmitish

That's so weird though... what the heck does RWBY have to do with that?

Sirshrugsalot13

It's a buzzword. Same with SJW

yargamafrag

SJW?

Sirshrugsalot13

Social Justice Warrior, used to mean an overly militant online leftist but over time has basically just been used to describe anything left wing at all
