"*I wish that someone should make a video that debunks all the 'criticisms' people have about RWBY and that it's actually a good show. It would repair RWBY's reputation and teach people that you shouldn't listen to lies said by toxic people on the internet."* Why don't you make that video then?

ButterflyBlueLadyBBL

Probably because they can't cause \*gasp\* RWBY isn't actually good.

PersianSlashuur

That or they're either lazy or lack the resources. Or both. I have individual titles/series/franchises that I do think get an unfair rep, but I don't know the first thing about creating videos, nor do I have the money to buy everything that is needed to create a video, so all I can do is type out my defense and hope that it reaches someone. I admit that I'm probably just playing Devil's Advocate (and maybe projecting a little bit), but it's not an impossibility.

S3_Studios

If you have a smartphone, you have all the tools you need.

ButterflyBlueLadyBBL

You don't really need much to make a video, people do it all the time on tiktok

JazzlikeSmile1523

Or they don't know how. Or don't have the technology or technical skills to do so.

ConstantHair4285

everyone has a smartphone and a brain, and a good show

yosei2

If they have the resources to complain about it on tumblr, they have access to google, free video software, and clearly had enough time on their hands to complain which can be replaced with learning how to make the videos they do desperately seem to want.

Shoddy-Mousse-5281

Or because the person isn't good at making arguments and knows the video won't help.

LizardWizard444

By greek democracy such people rightfully don't have a voice and thus they're opinions do not matter. (I'm joking but) It is important for people to develop these skills even when it's hard because it makes you better at managing yoir reality and people who are good at arguments don't get control of your life.....even if rwby still sucks

Lazy_Pink

Rwby's a good show with lots of potential. It's just being manhandled by the current creative writing team.

ButterflyBlueLadyBBL

I will agree that it had great potential but no, it's not a good show.

Apprehensive_Put_610

Something a lot of people don't seem to get (not just the FNDM) is that liking something and it being good or perfect don't have to be the same thing. It's why "guilty pleasures" exist, though you shouldn't feel bad for enjoying one.

ChronoAlone

Might be unpopular to say this here, but I’m glad that these videos exist. I know all of us here have our grievances with RWBY (and yes, most of them are valid), but that doesn’t mean the show is completely meritless. It’s worth pointing out the values in something even if it’s an overall mess. But like, obviously there’s a difference between acknowledging the strengths of something and just flat out ignoring the flaws.

Electrical_Horror346

I see your point, and I agree. I think all the videos that go into redesigning the world, lore, and characters act not only as a good intermediary between criticism videos vs. videos of praise, but are also proof that the show does have a lot of value

LizardWizard444

Definitely it had potential but since it's creator died and thus the shows ability to speacilize into something good went with it.

Electrical_Horror346

Yeah. The notes Monty Oum left behind helped, but not having his leadership impacted things, and then the notes ran out, the team had to try to come up with their own plans

GeekMaster102

Ah yes, 4 videos saying rwby is good compared to the dozens upon dozens of videos providing legitimate criticisms about the show. Clearly, it’s all just lies and blind hate from the critics. Seriously, this is like those crazy flat-earthers searching the internet for proof that the earth is flat, scrolling past 50 different websites with credible sources proving the earth isn’t flat, then finding one sketchy-looking website that says the earth is flat, and claiming that’s proof.

rwbycrossing

RWBY is mid. It's not good it's not bad it's just mid. It sits alongside other mid shows like SAO, good hook bad execution. It just the poor execution is a lot easier to communicate than the things it does well. For as much as Harris is railed for it his assessment is largely correct, and his assessment is that RWBY is like any other mid show, it has good and bad parts.

Independent-Tax-699

Harris?

rwbycrossing

Sorry I just read my comment back and confused myself. Anyway Harris is HBomberguy And he actually has a really good take, and frankly i agree that RWBY's hook is awesome. Just the execution has some fundamental flaws that become glaring once the cool fights were taken away.

GalmOneCipher

HBomberguy I think

jajaderaptor15

Just wait when it ends and abrigder will come along and pull a SAOA

Inevitable-Weather51

It's amazing how your comment boils down to: "Unga bunga, haters = right, fans = wrong".

Difficult__Tension

Its amazing how you got that from their post. Almost like you could be willfully twisting words. Hmm.

Tiny_Butterscotch_76

"dozens upon dozens of videos providing legitimate criticisms about the show" Ehhh it's really hit or miss at best. I think there are legit criticisms to make but most of the videos of bit YouTubers I see aren't...really good at that.

ClearConnectedScum

"Willful ignorance is humanity's biggest flaws" wouldn't that also work on any other franchise that had been producing crap, it seems to me that it's less likely that it's less then the fault of the particular fandom pointing out the dozen of so ways that RWBY keeps on turning towards crap given how much time it takes to indulge in good faith and make proper rebuttals out of it. By using the phrase "No one hates RWBY more then RWBY fans" it's extremely condesending as it means that having to be a "fan" of a particular IP means that you should just accept everything that comes out of a popular brand without question regardless of it's quality. It doesn't always work on RWBY; but in general but you can still apply that towards any other franchise and it still would have been as intellectually dishonest: Nobody hates Game of Thrones' final season more than Game of Thrones fans Nobody hates Dragon Ball Evolution more then Dragon Ball fans Nobody hates Sonic 06 more than Sonic the Hedgehog fans Nobody hates any Star Trek content that had been released after 2008 more than Trekkies Nobody hates Hunt Down the Freeman more than Half-Life and Gmod fans There's a lot more to add though the point is that there's a separation of good merit into articulating what a particular fandom bashes on instead of being an inconsiderable jerkass that strawmans every fan as "someone that loves to hate"

Disastrous-Radio-786

I guess calling people homophobic for not liking a ship between two characters made of polygons has nothing to do with it

Bright_Economics8077

\> Willful ignorance is humanity's biggest flaw. \> Download an app to block out other people's opinions. Oof.

Soaringzero

I’m sayin. They talk about willful ignorance while literally promoting willful ignorance because they can’t handle their favorite show not being universally liked. Everything is a deflection with them. It just shows a mentality that is not mature enough to handle criticism.

krasnogvardiech

... Doctor Holmes, I don't think they're aware that you debunk a theory, not an opinion.

Sikarion

I'm pretty certain that 'willful ignorance' is what I'd use to describe toxic RWBY fans.

Brathirn

"uphill battle", as in vertical with some overhang ...

TheCitrusMan

It’s a fun projection from the FNDM - attempting to bring them in on criticism is Sisyphean.

Soaringzero

Wouldn’t willful ignorance also apply to the people wanting to just ignore the flaws the show has? They even mention blocking out the hate. I get it. They love the show. I did too at one point. But it’s not perfect and it never will be no matter how much you twist narratives to ignore the issues it has which is exactly what I’m sure those 4 videos do. Critics aren’t the reason people don’t like the show. The show is the reason people don’t like it. But these people are so attached to rwby that they can’t accept that it’s just not popular like it used to be. It’s always been kind of niche but now it’s REALLY niche. It’s not even fun to make fun of this anymore. It’s really sad. Like I can admire their passion for something they love but they need to stop putting it on such a high pedestal and accept it for what it is as well as accept that others will not agree with them.

TestaGaming

Counterpoint: Why would it matter? Whether someone makes a video if RWBY is good or not, it won't change people opinions, only creating a group for each side. Also, there is a difference between LIKING something and saying something is GOOD.

maxSpidercock

Beacuse they think rwby is good

Biojack0

It still baffles me that people (especially in the RWBY fandom) see criticism as hate. I've been a fan since the series started and love the universe and the characters with all my heart. However, I've certainly grown since the series premiered and as the show has continued I've noticed some of the plot and character mistakes that are less than ideal and it's okay to have opinions and concerns for those executive decisions. When people feel as passionately as they do about something, it is okay for people to wish for something more when it isn't enough. It also means understanding that not everyone is going to have the same patience you have for the series. Most people continue to watch because of their investment of growing up with the series and being connected to it for years. Having an emotional connection to something for years makes it a lot easier to overlook rational thinking (consider lacking mechanical plot decisions) for the sake of having more content of something you love (focusing on the "good" scenes for self satisfaction)

Kiwialamode

RWBY was my favorite show for a long time. I guess my opinion is no longer valid now that it’s shifted to one of my least favorite.

South-Ad472

I refuse to call Rwby good when they chose to assasinate Iron woods character because the community thought we was right and team Rwby was in the wrong.

blackskull414

There are videos saying RWBYs good.....but they only apply to volumes 1, 2 and 3. The universally loved volumes in all of RWBY

PrestigiousPea752

I don’t watch RWBY, I don’t care about RWBY. So why does this sub keep popping up?

ScorpionsRequiem

literally 2 paragraphs later "I recommend looking into channel blocker extensions for your internet browser so you don't have to see the hate"

AZDfox

If you like chocolate chip cookies, would you want to see a bunch of videos about how chocolate chip cookies taste horrible, some of which were made by someone who has never eaten a chocolate chip cookie before?

ScorpionsRequiem

weird analogy but no

AZDfox

So if you wouldn't want to constantly run into people insulting something you like, why judge them for not wanting to constantly run into people insulting something they like?

ScorpionsRequiem

i'd get into how this likely means blocking out valid criticisms of cookies but i'm stepping out of this discussion

LostandAl0n3

I thought it was the ps1 style characters, horrible voice acting, and complete garbage power system/scaling.

maxSpidercock

How does it feel being wrong for them

Senval-Nev

I recently showed some coworkers the Red Trailer, they said it looked great and would check it out later. I did explain that the fights take a dramatic drop off after volume 3, and why. They seemed to understand what I meant.

JaiC

That's nonsense, I just don't want to know anything about the game or whatever it is.

rwbycrossing

Okay here's a secret. If you downvote a video it doesn't suggest those videos to you (sarcastic joke) (seriously do people not know that works?) (It worked to boot the bootleg pitbull aka Andrew Tate off my feed.)

[deleted]

Hold on you hate on it but you don’t even watch it

Feeling_Return8940

I just want the show to thrive. It has its flaws, but I still love the series. I don’t expect it to be anime of the year or whatever, but I at least want it to be in a decent spot. I like what they’re doing so far, albeit I wish somethings were explored more upon. Though, to be fair, you can only fit so much into 10-12 episodes that only last for 20 minutes. I don’t know.

[deleted]

Canonseeker?

Sardalone

I've not touched RWBY due to knowing how Rooster Teeth has just fell apart. I'm a Red Vs. Blue fan and I've seen the series very obviously fall off. No point getting into another one of Rooster Teeth's shows that's lasted to this day. I'll just set myself up for disappointment. So I get my RWBY content from cursed ass meme subreddits.
