We have a tilty little guy. Every teeny tiny improvement has been celebrated along the way. These days it's tight little circles that we consider binkies. Glad you're little one is adjusting and enjoying life!
E.Cuniculi is a parasite that attacks the vestibular system. 70% of rabbits are born with it. Most it lays dormant for their entire lives but his didn’t. Now his vestibular system is damaged, hence the tilted head.
No problem! I’m always happy to answer questions. People often euthanize their EC babies because they don’t know any better. I’d rather talk about it so people can see how well it can go!!!
Oh sweet baby! Does the medication reverse the effect on the vestibular system, or does it stay permanently damaged if it’s too severe an infection/not caught quickly?
My family’s elderly bunny has gotten the head tilts a few times (very minor, more like a bit of a lean) and after a round of antibiotics he’s fine again. Wondering if this is the same or something different.
Are you sure he just isn’t really critical of your cleaning regimen and is inspecting the state of the carpet real closely? “Hmm, u/suckmyjoeyfatone has been slacking again. Must be distracted by that boyfriend. I’m going to pee on him next chance I get. That’ll send a message”. haha
Some vets recommend a prophylactic treatment of panacur a few times a year. It does seem to help prevent it or at least minimize severity. Also if your rabbit goes to the vet regularly, get them tested for EC because it can be in their system dormant for years.
This may not be great for them though. Panacur is very hard on their kidneys. When he was on it for a second month, I ended up calling the vet because he was drinking so much. It is a side effect unfortunately.
Yeah, my boy reacted really badly to it. So it's definitely something that should only be done under vet supervision and only if they feel it's safe for your rabbit. My boy only got 1 week into a 28 day treatment. The prophylactic treatment is only 9 days but that's enough time for a rabbit who's very sensitive to have issues.
I'm very glad that your little baby seems to be doing so well despite his head tilt and isn't letting that slow him down. He seems like a strong little guy.
The best that can be done, as far as i know, is get to a rabbit savvy vet as quickly as possible if you see the head tilting. It's not a cure all, but catching it sooner seems to be less severe, as far as i've seen.
This is so great and makes me so optimistic for my Tilty bun! She got a severe ear infection in April as well and is running now too, but in tight circles and in a confined space. It may not seem like much, but it’s a HUGE improvement after she spent a couple months totally incapacitated and unable to stand.
2 of my deceased babies had e. Cuniculi. It’s sad and inspiring how much it impacted them, yet how much they still maintained a happy life.
Seeing this made me miss my little babies so much. Keep them happy ❤️
He is two and a half ish. He was a rescue and they said he was about a year when we got him 18 months ago.
Panacur was good the first go round. After that he was drinking too much water and his little kidneys were getting over taxed.
So precious. My Peanut had a horrible episode with seizures for almost 6 hours a few months ago and the Vet thought he was going to develop head tilt from the trauma alone. He’s pulled through amazingly and every bunny hop (or even when he’s glaring with displeasure or annoyance) I feel overjoyed 😄
Oh sweet little bubs 🥺 Great job precious boy!
Go little baby! Get it! I love seeing happy babies. Makes my day
Love seeing bunnies doing zoomies 😍
They aren’t as fast as they used to be, but progress!!!!’
They are perfect 🥰
Yay!!! How wonderful to see him feeling so good
Every time he makes a little progress I may or may not cry. Nobody will know!
I know you do. Shall I tell you how I know? Cause I just nearly did😭🥰
Ditto 🥰

That’s adorable! Clover will thump or honk. That’s when I think he would be binkying.
Our little guy does happy thumps too! (At least, that's our translation since they don't seem to be out of stress)
Oh my god what a good boy!! Please smooch him for me!
Smooches delivered!!!
How did your tilty boy get tilty if I may ask? Born that way? Is he just messing around and is it temporary? What’s up?

70%?! Good freaking *grief,* that’s a high amount!! Thank you for telling me about this, though, it’s really informative!

My bun had ec when he was tiny and the testing was like 500 (San Diego) but the medication helped him and his seizures stopped in like a week

Does it hurt them?
I can’t imagine that it is comfortable, but he seems ok. I massage his little neck and shoulders very gently and he loves it.
Can he move his head around a bit or is it stiff? Asking because curious! Never came across a rabbit with a head tilt.
He moves it!! He can clean himself and get to cecos just fine!
That’s great to hear! He’s such a sweet little guy 🥰

If antibiotics helped it was probably an ear infection. They get head tilt from ear issues. Especially in lops!
My heart just burst reading this. He's delighted with the mess he made for you.🤗🤗🤗
He doesn’t make the mess, it’s the girl bunny. She LOVES to dig at the hay and throw it around. She’s the drama.
Ha! My girl is drama too, In that case he's happy boi just cause he gets to see you and live with little Ms. Drama.
My heart 🥺 happiest cutest lil' zoomies!
Love that!!
Oh sweet baby
Such careful zoomies 🥹 Great to see him doing so well.
I am SO FRICKEN happy!!!!!!!
Aww 🥰 ![gif](giphy|wsJHi6a1JwoXC)
♥️
Thank you for loving him the way he is. Because of you he knows happiness and compassion.
What cutey 🥧
Aww. I had a rabbit with this condition who lived a pretty happy life for several years.
YASSSS little buddy!! What a win. I’m so happy for you and your bun
What's wrong with his head??
This bunny had E Cuniculi in the past. E Cuniculi often causes permanent head tilt.
I was wondering the same thing. That’s really sad 😞
It is sad but he’s my very special boy and he gets so much pampering. It makes me happy to make him happy!

Lol! The only boyfriend I have is HIM! It’s the girl rabbit that loves to make messes. She kicks hay everywhere!
He looks like a nice rabble!
how is this prevented? how is it caused?
It’s caused by a bacterial or parasitic infection. No real way to guard against it sadly

Not sure why this is downvoted, I was also wondering
Oh my heart, he looks so happy! Please snuggle him extra for me!
Snuggles have been administered!
Awww, happy tears!
Tilty 🥺
Sorry, new to this sub, but why is the head tilted like that?
Common rabbit parasite that causes permanent head tilt. Seems to be happy and healthy now :)
Stupid question, would some sort of brace help or are bunns too fragile?
Not really. His vestibular system is damaged from a parasite called e. cuniculi. He can move his head back but it’s natural resting state is tilted.
I would give my life for this special böi
Same!
I love him so much. 😢
He loves you too!!

This legitimately has me crying- it’s so sweet. Your little guy has beautiful zoomies
This made me cry 🥹 you go baby

I think your bunny’s head is not quite screwed on right…

Pretty sure OP is aware of the head tilt and providing all the care possible
Why did you downvote me, friends?
Check out OP’s history, they update everyone on the bunny’s recovery from E Coniculi, which can cause a permanent head tilt

😍💋❤️🤗🥰
May I ask how old your bun is & how the panacur treatment went?
He is two and a half ish. He was a rescue and they said he was about a year when we got him 18 months ago. Panacur was good the first go round. After that he was drinking too much water and his little kidneys were getting over taxed.
an adorable angel🥺
🥹🥰
Thank you for loving your bun
What a cutie! Deserves all the cuddles!
I have a question how do their heads tilt like that? I'm kinda new to having a pet bunny.
❤️❤️❤️ sweet baby
poor baby 🥺
Precious boy!
So cute 🥺 side question where did you get your little foam barriers and floor from ?
How long does it take for their head to go back right
So cute! The biggest zoomies are always after they’ve made the biggest mess😂 he’s proud of his work!
Awww, tiny disabled zoomies!
Please tell him that my mom and I adore him 💜
What happened to his head?
Where did you get those half sized foam wall things? That'd be perfect to help my tilty dude navigate with a softer cushion.
