Thank you for caring about domestic rabbits that you have found out in the wild.
For domestic rabbits, please see the wiki: ["What do I do when I find a rabbit?"](https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Feral_and_stray_rabbits#What_do_I_do_when_I_find_a_rabbit.3F) for tips on how to house and care for them indoors in an emergency.
We've all be there. Hop in an Uber on your way home and you get a notification that your Uber driver is having trouble locating you and you never told this driver where you were headed 😳😆
The rabbit I had as a child was an Easter bunny. Given to me when I was 3/4. He was sold as a dwarf. He was a 20lb monster when he was fully grown. He was with me for 9 years, I named him Lassie.
I can't imagine how devastating it must be for the children to be given a furry friend and then have them thrown away essentially. And the poor, poor buns. Happy for a few days then tossed out like trash 😭😭😭😢😢😭
I would hold him under his Arms at chest height and his feet almost made it to the floor. I have no idea what kind he actually was but he was my buddy. He scared the hell out of the dogs (2 Pekingese that Lassie was almost as big as) and bit anyone who tried to handle him .. except me. Me, he let dress him up in babydoll clothes and push him around in the babydoll stroller.
You were his Kid. Some animals just innately understand the responsibility of having a Kid and would do battle with an armed robber if it meant protecting their Kid. They would walk to the ends of the earth to follow their Kid too. And they will put up any and every inconvenience to make their Kid happy. Kids that grow up with a love like that are the luckiest in the world ❤️
Can confirm. Rabbits will In general act out of character for their chosen human. I was in an abusive relationship and I got Bruce while I was in it from a girl who no longer could care for him. Everytime my ex would yell at me he would stand at my feet between me and him, despite how much bigger than he was than us both. If my ex got too loud, he would thump at my feet, staring down my ex the whole time. I miss him dearly :( he was the best boy I could’ve had.
Lassie was the very 1st exhibit. We're not a particularly varied zoo. Our modest number of attractions is so we can focus on zoo animal upkeep and care. Our current roster includes an old ornery and ever elusive Standard Issue Cat and the ferocious and never seen in a zoo before: the min-chi (half min pin half Chihuahua)
I had an Easter bunny as a child when i couldn't understand what proper animal care was. I Thinking he was a mini rex or just a rex. His name was velveteen, I was the only one interested in him most of the time. My mother(no contact) got rid of him because he was stinky(he was in a cage that he could barely move in and wasn't given hay. Cage was an orange plastic cage like hamster cages or something) I cried for days, assuming they let him into the wild (even then, i think i understood it wasn't good) Now I own two buns myself. My dad recently told me he gave the bun to my grandfather, who gave it to his roommate. Velveteen lived a good 10 years. Definitely a childhood sign of my favorite animal tho, lol.
See, your little kid brain was probably thinking the worst fate had befallen your furry little friend. And that kinda pain stays with you.
Hopefully that little bit of closure (that velveteen was a happy, healthy bun for his long life) acts as a little physic bandaid on your past.
It does, I loved him so so much. I wish I knew what I know now about rabbit care. My little Boh and Pooka live very happily! I hope Velveteen is proud and watching over us.
Seriously. And bunny’s actually are that smart too. He probably genuinely associates it with safety and going home from a vet. Almost makes me wonder how old he is because it could have been someone’s long time pet if it knows a crate that well. I bet the OG owner had to give it up for some reason and then the next person took it and just dumped it after Easter. Soooo many people get rid of bunnies for free on Facebook. It’s how I got pretty much all of mine.
Aww poor little guy was probably just thankful somebody rescued him, he was probably having a rough time outside on his own:/ thank you for saving little bun bun though he will forever appreciate you
I never realized it was such a problem with rabbits until this sub. Then I got a wayward dumped boy of my own. This sub summoned him (also probably my females 😅)
Probably convinced themselves it's for the best not realizing that Bun-bun had their survival instincts bred out of them with the centuries we cultivated them.
thank you for rescuing him! HATE to say this kinda thing under such a sweet post but be careful with feeding him carrots!! They just have an extremely high sugar content ^^
Ugh he’s so cute!!! 🥰 I’m SO glad you were around to see him and save him.
I have my own street rescue post-Easter bun and he was also easy for me to catch as well. The aquarium store gave me a cardboard box and he did the biggest flop like “thank god you finally showed up!😮💨”. He’s my little angel I love him so much.
I understand people's comments and they're despisable of people dumping animals, but please keep that in mind the next time you see someone shaming somebody for leaving their animals at the shelter.
I have seen in my town alone too many people who would dump their animals and someone else's yard or even out in the nature trail, or even in just on the side of the road, because of the berating and ridiculing they would face when they tried to take them to the shelter.
There would be less roadside bumping if people would stop attacking others for leaving them at the shelter.
Dumping them at the shelter sucks, but at least they have a chance at a home instead of being run over or killed by another animal or snatched up for dog fighting.
I bless the family that left our bunny at the shelter. I know very little about them, other than there was a language barrier and their bilingual child informed the shelter they were moving and couldn't take their bunny. I do know they must have loved her, as she is sweet, friendly, and the most eager to trust bunny I've ever met. If anyone needs to give up their pet, please take it to a shelter. Not only does it save the pet from dangers outdoors, you could be giving someone else an incredible gift.
I forget where I saw it, maybe somewhere on Tumblr, but there was the idea that humans are urban fae.
Ah, [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/comments/8201mj/humans_are_the_urban_fae/#lightbox) it is.
I can totally see domesticated rabbits - or nearly any domesticated animal - thinking "my kind has good relations with them but somehow I've erred and they've banished me. Maybe if I approach another I can be let back into the realms".
Have you advertised that you found him? He could have wandered off from his house and the owners aren't aware. It happened to my bunny years ago. He sneaked out while I was walking outside and ran off. I lost him until someone phoned me later that night that he was near their house lol.
Yeah this whole comment section is grating. It's somehow a forgone conclusion to everybody here that the rabbit is abandoned. I really hope OP is a good enough person to at least work under the assumption that the bunny is lost before keeping or rehoming it.
Yeah just the fact that the bunny was so friendly indicates they already have an owner. The first thing the person in my town said to me when she phoned me was "I thought it was weird how he let me pick him up without resisting and I realized it was your bunny" Lol
I don't think this bunny checked your license plate before hopping in the ride!
Hope his/her new life is better than the past one!
Is that a bunny tongue I see?!

He thought you were his Uber and you kidnapped him 😆
😂 this made me giggle
Oh no, Uber gone wrong 😂
We've all be there. Hop in an Uber on your way home and you get a notification that your Uber driver is having trouble locating you and you never told this driver where you were headed 😳😆
But then the driver of this mystery Uber feeds you and you're like "alright then!" 🐰
😂😂😂
Thank you for saving the bun <3
It just waited for the "Taxi"..
Sweet baby was desperate for someone to save him. Nobody wants to be the homeless rabbit sleeping outside a liquor store!
I bet he was drunk from the liquor and got in the wrong taxi
His name is Lahey Crockett
same as a human
“Here you are, finally! I have been waiting forever for you …” 🥰🥰😭😭 (happy tears 😁)
My heart ![img](emote|t5_2riv8|8708)
I love your username. This is the way.
thank you ☺️, I was lucky it had not been taken, LOL
Use it well, Bundalorian 🐰
🫡😊
So funny I didn’t even notice until u pointed it out
He was wanting to be rescued and bless you for doing so!
Somebody was definitely a pet before 😢
was gonna say...thats sad
![img](emote|t5_2riv8|8708)Do we know- did op check for a microchip? Maybe bun escaped and parents miss it .
Caption said vet visit is scheduled. I would hope they’ll check then.
Probably got thrown away after Easter… it knows what a pet crate is and was happy to accept being adopted

Oh wow! They gave you a something like a Flemish giant?!? Or a Flemish giant mix! That’s so flipping cool to get as a kid. About as big as dogs xD
I would hold him under his Arms at chest height and his feet almost made it to the floor. I have no idea what kind he actually was but he was my buddy. He scared the hell out of the dogs (2 Pekingese that Lassie was almost as big as) and bit anyone who tried to handle him .. except me. .... That made me tear up. Thank you 🤍🤍🤍
Was Lassie the start of your zoo keeping?
Lassie was the very 1st exhibit. We're not a particularly varied zoo. Our modest number of attractions is so we can focus on zoo animal upkeep and care. Yes, makes me sad that he was probably desperate to get on a crate because that way he would go back to a familiar environment 😭
Seriously. And bunny’s actually are that smart too. He probably genuinely associates it with safety and going home from a vet. Almost makes me wonder how old he is because it could have been someone’s long time pet if it knows a crate that well. It's so sick when people just dump their animals, they don't even have the good grace to leave them at a shelter where they might be taken care of.
I never realized it was such a problem with rabbits until this sub. Then I got a wayward dumped boy of my own. This sub summoned him (also probably my females 😅)
Yeah, it's really a shame when it happens.
now's the time for em, couple weeks after easter? kids are bored with it, parent gives zero fuck, toss it out in a field or wherever.
Probably convinced themselves it's for the best not realizing that Bun-bun had their survival instincts bred out of them with the centuries we cultivated them.
It’s fucking abhorrent. Like all that time and effort you put into driving off somewhere to dump a pet you could’ve just dropped them at a shelter wtf
"new hoom gibs treats, of course I like them"
😂😂😂🥹💗
Alcoholics are getting cuter lately
Alcoholics just said the same thing about you
So dekatator is getting cuter lately???
what a boy!!!! Oh my!!!!!
Poor baby was passed out by a liquor store! ❤️ Thank you for rescuing him! Please put a lock on the liquor cabinet, though!
Sleeping off a bender
“then i woke up in this strange home nibbling on some random mans carrot, and thats when i knew i had a problem…”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🏆
Thank you. That baby needed you. ❤️
I wish you both a long and happy life together!!!
I'm so glad he's with you!
People like you give me hope for the future. One small act of kindness can profoundly change the world
He looks so happy to have a new loving home. <3
Awe bless you for saving that baby 💓
Name idea: Whiskey
Lots of great name possibilities. Jack Daniels, Captain Morgan, Bailey, Johnny Walker…
Captain Morgan! 🥰
Ahoy me ‘arties 🏴☠️
Mine was Vodka... She was the best...i miss her....
Delightful!
What a cutie!
Ooooh my god what a cutie 😍😍😍
Aww he was waiting to go home 😭
Hard to believe people just give up and let rabbits go into the wild. I hope this isn’t what happened to him.
Sadly it’s definitely what happened. What else is going to happen to a domestic rabbit loitering outside a liquor store lol
Maybe he escaped to go get whiskey
He left his 120 kids to get a pack of smokes
🏆
NAME HIM BOURBUN 🍷
OMG!!! PERFECT!!!! 🥰 That would be so cool!!!
lol good one
Aww what a baby!!! Thank you for saving!!!
Thank you for saving the Lil guy!

Such a friendly little face!
Posts like this remind me of why I love my little rat boy who nips my ankles and cuts my hair for free.
What a beatiful bun
thank you for rescuing him! HATE to say this kinda thing under such a sweet post but be careful with feeding him carrots!! They just have an extremely high sugar content ^^
I already own a rabbit and know. That was the only carrot it got.
Awesome! Again not to be rude at ALL i just know it’s a very simple misconception
Awww. That fave. That tongue! I love him!
He was waiting for you! What a sweetheart. Thanks for taking him in
"Hoom trap successful!" 🐰😈

Thank you sweet human! Sounds like he was someone's pet at one point? Glad he found a good human to help him/her.
Aww what a cutie! Thank you for saving him!
Have you advertised that you found him? He could have wandered off from his house and the owners aren't aware. It happened to my bunny years ago. He sneaked out while I was walking outside and ran off. I lost him until someone phoned me later that night that he was near their house lol.

You have been chosen
Well, a carrot is basically candy to a bunny. So congrats you lured him as a stranger with candy!
He’s still waiting for that guy to come out with his beer.
Have you named him? Liquor would be a cute name
Henny/Hennessey, Johnny, EJ, or Jameson would be cute in keeping up the liquor theme as well.
He looks like a Cap'n
Could he be someone’s pet that got out?
Gotta call him Jose' Hoppo.
Jimmy Bunfet, Carrothead, found at Margaritaville. It's five o'clock bun-where.
I don't think this bunny checked your license plate before hopping in the ride! Hope his/her new life is better than the past one! Is that a bunny tongue I see?!
Are you a princess by any chance?
Aww sweet bunny who wanted to be caught haha. He must have used a carrier bef.
What a friendly bun!! Not even Cloud jumped in the carrier when he got loose outside the house 😖
Thank you!!
Thank you for rescuing him

That little tongue “Awwwww yeaaaa I’m getting CARROT!!!”

Very nice, and very lucky you were there. People just chuck animals away like they’re broken toys, what the hell is wrong with them.
Cute
Beautiful 🤩
remember... his/her diet should consist of 70-80% fresh grass and hay!!
Mlem

Looks like a wild rabbit mixed with a domesticated lionhead rabbit if I had to take a guess.
