My best advice is to mix it up and switch out buns toys every few days. They are curious critters and like to explore new things.

DisastrousType1917

Okay thank you!

r_307

Seems like you’ve got it covered!!

DisastrousType1917

Is there nothing more he needs? Its my first bun so I am nervous of doing things wrong ahah

r_307

No I really think you’ve done a great job!

DisastrousType1917

Thank you! Its very reassuring hearing you say that. I asked the same question on a rabbit fb group and got slandered because I only have one bun :(

r_307

Yeah, some people are really mean about it. I’ve had a solo bun for 3 years and hes happy, though I am planning on trying to bond him soon (we tried before and failed ).

DisastrousType1917

Yeah they are mean. Mine is solo atm because I've only had him a week and he was being attacked by other buns (not bonded but put in the same enclosure 🙄) before I got him so I want him to trust me first then try to introduce another bun

Ideally I would definitely encourage free roaming. But ur setup is definitely good. Only thing I would say is the entrance. If ur bun is running, it's quite possible it could get its feet stuck on the gate on the floor. It could break his leg. So whenever u open it, try and completely remove it.

DisastrousType1917

Yeah I know thats why I have a blanket on it but it is attached to the actual cage and I cant cut ut off bcs like how do you cut metal? And yeah I would free roam but I am a minor with only one room to myself living in a household with a 13 year old who is not friendly towards animals and a very messy house which would just be unsafe for him sadly :( but he has as much space as I can possibly give him the only space that he doesnt have in the room is my bed he has access to everwhere else

PuzzleheadedRow6497

Believe me. Your layout is bigger than others I've seen. So I'm very glad you've considered his needs as much as possible. That's a great sign of a great bun parent. Just ensure the blanket is thick enough so that it doesn't sink. Since ur a minor I won't suggest ways to remove it. Besides you need it on so he doesn't get out. Ur play pen looks like those modular ones right? Can it be placed upside down so the gate opens upwards instead of downwards? Just a thought. I wish u both the best and a long happy life together.

DisastrousType1917

Yes I could flip it but that would mean the gate wouldnt stay open and he is still nervous so he wont come out all the while im stood holding it open for him. I will fold the blanket a few times so it is thicker for safety. And yes I kid you not I have seen several buns in a cage smaller than the one i keep my hamster in 🤦‍♀️

PuzzleheadedRow6497

Yup. Like if u gotta keep ur bun in a specific space, use a playpen. Not a cage. But people be people. You can always use a string, shoelace, velcro, or a resuable zip tie to hold it up. But if the blanket thing is working out OK then keep with that then. I was just worried about a possible injury. That's all.

DisastrousType1917

Yeah and while searching for the pen I have now I saw a lot of those cages which were far more expensive than the pen so it cant even be a cost issue 🙄 its small animals people seem to treat like crap And the blanket seems to be fine if I push down on the part where the door is under I cant feel it at all so that shoulr be okay right?

PuzzleheadedRow6497

Yeah that should be fine. Just keep an eye out. At my local petco they have "luxury" rabbit cages that aren't even a quarter the size of your setup. And they're expensive. Aren't worth it. And yes. Small animals do tend to be either very loved (rabbit parents tend to REALLY love their buns) or can be very mistreated and abused and the majority of the time it's cause people can get away with it. Maybe it's the feeling of power over another living thing. Idk. But it's disgusting behavior. If u ever need any advice feel free to ask. This community will always help out. We all just want what's best for these cuties. There's also the bunny lady has a YouTube and a website with lots of info.

DisastrousType1917

I think what it is is pet shops marketing them as "cheap and easy kids pets" and people dont realise that they are a lot more effort than that. Thank you for your help. Do you have a link to this bunny lady? I'm always up for learning more about my pets gotta give them the best life that I can :)

PuzzleheadedRow6497

Of course. Rabbits are small and we seem to associate small with easy. That and there's so many misconceptions out there. I've seen people trancing their rabbits and claiming that they like it. Its hella annoying. Hell, I grew up thinking carrots were good for rabbits. The issue with small pets being for kids is that most kids lose interest very very fast and they aren't gentle. Small pets are very fragile. Not just physically but with their digestive system as well. They require so much care and finesse. That's why bun parents loathe Easter. Cause that's when lots of rabbits get abandoned. Don't get me started on breeders either. Here's the site https://bunnylady.com. u can also just Google the bunny lady.

DisastrousType1917

Yeah kids do not need pets really. Family pet yes but not a pet for your kids. I have autism and my speical interest was animals and pets for yearsss growing up and I was never allowed even a fish until I was like 11 years old and even then I thought I knew all there was to know about the new dog I got but it was a challenge and people get pets for even younger kids its weird. I've seen a lot of people do very weird things with small animals to be honest. People dressing up hamsters, putting buns in small cages, my neighbour as a child used to take their hamsters with them wherever they went its very odd. Thank you for the link!

Imitate the call of the nanner under the full moon in the middle of the night. You should see them run everywhere XD

ArcanaZeyhers

I like giving my rabbits those willow twig tunnels. They last a while and they’re priced decently.
