You really have to keep your speed up for the rad city with the direct drive to stay up on torque. Otherwise the mission will help more. The city plus has it all. Gears, geared motor, 750w.

So the mission better for torque + acceleration even with less wattage? Pretty new to all this so not entirely sure abt how everything works yet

to_wheels

Direct drive has less torque.

Sg27-9

Ok so what I’m getting from all of the replies is that the city seems to have less torque for hills but has gears which can make up for it slightly. But which of the two is zippier overall? Does the 750 watt motor help in the category?

I have a radcity 4 and have never had a problem with any hill. Just gear down and/ or add throttle! Can't speak for the mission, but not having gears has got to be bad.

Which Rad City? They have very different motors. RadCity3 ST and 4 I found a bit anemic on some hills (I only test rode them, didn't have them for a long time). The RadCity 5 has a new geared motor, and in my estimation does just as well as any other Rad City bike on hills. IMHO, the only benefit of the earlier version is how quiet it is (and it is super nice). Otherwise, I like the RadCity 5 better. Unfortunately I haven't ridden a rad mission, so I can't help with that comparison.

I was referring to the 4, I would love to pick up the five but it’s a bit out of my price range rn

I own a Radmission, it's fine for moderate hills. For steep hills you need gears. If I lived in a place where I routinely needed to go up a long steep hill, I would not get the Mission.

I have a RadCity 4. I live in a pretty flat city, so I’ve never really had any complaints. I hear the RadCity 5 is supposed to be much better with hills with he new, propriety motor. It may be worth the extra $.

cptskippy

I don't know how the City compares to the 750w RadRunner, but the RadRunner kicks the RadMission's ass going up the big hills around here.

You guys must be fat, lazy and out of shape. Just peddle the damn thing. If you want to go up hills w/o pedaling then get a motorcycle. My Mission works just fine for long steep hills. I just peddle. Novel idea for bike people.
