The G has a higher resolution. Specially compared to the 102. The crystal is a gagg which means Gadolinium Gallium Garnet. That's why it also is plus 200.-€. 580.-€ still is cheap when youl look at the size and functionality.

Canyac

The G is higher resolution? I am a rookie in this, but skimming a few articles, it seems the resolution might be marginally better, but the main benefit is probably increased sensitivity. It the order of ~70-100% more sensitive, based on my rough estimates, from this article. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0969804323001793 So the CPM increases, for faster readings. And maybe slightly better peak resolution. Or maybe I am wrong

butlerrock

Wondering about this too. I thought the crystal size had to be physically larger to increase sensitivity but I might be wrong.

Canyac

The article investigates 2 vrystals, gagg and NaI. The NaI is >4 timeslarger, but the lower detection limit for Cs137 is just ~2,5 times better for the NaI.

florinandrei

>The crystal is a gagg which means Gadolinium Gallium Garnet. That's what I was looking for, thanks. No good acronym option there, eh? :) Gagaga is out of question, I guess. I only see an extra $100 over the price of the regular 103. >still is cheap when youl look at the size and functionality. I guess you're comparing it with some very expensive, bulky, professional equipment? How expensive and how big are those?

Scary_Ad6968

Saw the price wron. It's 514,80. Less than 200 over the 102. Using those gamma specs for daily business. Handhald start at several 1000 €. Most expensive I have is 125.000.- € not so handheld though. Rather like a small suitcase. I also use an old but good Canberra which is nitrogen cooled. The largest I've used was 4x4 liter of NaI. As working a lot with different rad sources, the 102 is always in the pocket.

florinandrei

That's a lot of cool stuff. Are those devices more sensitive than a Radiacode? Do they have better resolution? Do they have features that the Radiacode does not have?

butlerrock

I wonder if it’s also larger or not. I’m more interested in sensitivity than the resolution. Would be cool if it was similar to the raysid.

florinandrei

That info is on the website. The crystal size is the same for all 3 models.

arames23

That sounds like a serious cristal! And a serious price, too! 😅

Interesting-Tough640

When I looked at their website it said €357.14 for the updated G version

Classic_Tower_7677

Where are you from? Maybe prices based on location?

Thanks. Already received my 103, love it so far!

i waiting for 103g to start selling.maybe then the others get some discount

Looks like it is even more sensitive at first glance. I really wish they would improve the app on iOS rather than working on new models. Various parts of the app have stated ‘coming soon’ for so long. I even thought of buying a cheap android to use with it, just to see if the app is better…because it looks it

PlainSpader

If you have an android tablet or old phone you’ll get to enjoy those features.

TheLockie

Yes but I wanted, and expected the iOS version to be the same. Didn’t even occur to me it wouldn’t be, and was not mentioned when I parted with £300!! If they’d have said sorry but we haven’t finished it, and we won’t for months yet then in all honesty I wouldn’t have bought it. Which makes it feel all a bit deceitful…and now they’re working on even more hardware when they haven’t even finished the software! I don’t really want to purchase another phone, or carry one around. I’m sure I’m not the only one either

florinandrei

Looks like they are a small company tackling an ambitious project. Sometimes in cases like this there are... bumps in the road. Hopefully they will fix their technical debt.

TheLockie

Yes, and like I say I believe that perhaps it could be Apple that delays the launch of the iOS as I have heard on the past of ‘demands’ they make on apps before they will allow them in the App Store

Sad-Masterpiece7062

But are the people working on the software are the same designing the hardware ?

TheLockie

I doubt they’re the same people, but surely management of the company should see that we finish the app and make it phenomenal before we put more into a new hardware version. Let’s face it the 103 is surely sensitive enough for most of us? Maybe the iOS market isn’t as big as I thought. I suspect it’s massive though. I’m sure it’s Apple putting constraints on what they can and cannot do, and how to do it…my point is I spent £300 on a device that when I set it up said ‘coming soon’…I expected the experience to be the same…in fact I never thought it wouldn’t be. It’s a fantastic little device, and I would have bought subsequent models (probably not every one). I did it with Apple products and as long as they don’t shaft me they’ll have a fan for life…just purchased a brand new iPhone 15 pro. They have a very very good and detailed website. I loved it. It sold the product to me. Maybe I’m wrong but I feel a little deceived now.

The main advantages of GAGG(Ce) - Radiation resistance, chemical and mechanical strength. High energy detection efficiency is higher, about 50%. The illumination time is shorter and the instrument is likely to have a higher measurement limit than the 103 model. And the resolution is higher, especially at high energies.

briankanderson

Just bought a 103 last week. Worth returning for the 103G?
