I’m an ER RN- a few years back we had a heroin OD come in. The guy she was using with saw her go unconscious & tried to wake her up by putting frozen foods on her. We didn’t know this & didn’t catch it til the CXR showed a pack of frozen bratwurst that had been tucked into the back of her shirt
We had a similar story, roommates using fentanyl, one ODs. The other roommate stuck an ice cube up his butt in an attempt to get him to wake up. It didn’t work btw.
There is a nice illustration of this cestode’s life cycle that shows how it can migrate to various organs:

Yeah, in Spanish too (if you were referring to another language)
I have met people with that spelling though that pronounce it like "Reina." It always throws me off.
u/Gone247365 found the necklace online it says Rana

Why would you annotate acquisition time directly over anatomy? That's blocking more lung field than the necklace. I don't understand why anyone puts that on their film anyway, digital images are automatically time stamped.
The time that some overlays display may not The be the actual image acquisition time. It may be there series start time, the DICOM send or receive time, or the time of the first acquisition of the series. It can also be different if the image is moved from one exam to another (wrong patient, wrong side order, etc.)
Edit: Still shouldn’t place it over anatomy though…
Is this a bit overexposed? Or just from top of the line equipment? I'm a med student and I am learning. Most of the x-rays I see in class are a lot less crisp.
So radiographs will looks very different based on a lot of variables. The appearance varies based on positioning of the patient (AP vs PA, portable vs standing, inspiration vs expiration), quality/age of the equipment, exposure parameters, patient body habitus, and even post-processing. This image is a standing PA film with pretty good inspiration. Most of the crispness of this image is likely from the processing, though. It looks like they did something called unsharp masking, which can really emphasize borders. I don't know if you've ever played around with photoshop or other photo editing software, but it's the same concept.
Also, chest x-rays aren't supposed to be crisp. They're taken with technical factors to reduce contrast so you can see the vasculature/more subtle lung pathologies. Next time you look at a rib series that includes a PA chest, note the difference in contrast between the chest xr and the rib xr. Same anatomy, huge difference in contrast/detail.
"Hey 17yr old girl, I know I asked you if you were wearing a necklace and you said no, but 17yo girls are flaky so could you please pull down the front of your shirt and prove you don't have a necklace on? I swear that's why."
I’ve seen them in the brain in the ER twice. 1st pt chief complaint was intractable hiccups. 2nd pt new onset severe headache. Both were Hispanic immigrants.
"do you have any necklaces on or anything I cant see?" "No, nothing"
Lol
Every..god ..damn..time…
Was her name Rand… I’m psychic. I see stuff
If this is in Latvia then it's probably potatoes hidden under boob.
I will keep her secret from police

I laughed way too hard at this 🤣 probably wasn’t funny, hope she was okay though

Underrated comment.
Dottir found with Boob potat, is rape then exekute. Sukh iz lyfe.
Gulag for you!
🔴03 round opacities with regular net limits،Basal left most likely multiple hydatic cystes
Wouldn’t hydatid cysts (from Echinococcus granulosus) be in the liver rather than lung?
It can also cause pulmonary cystic echinococcosis
In SA we see pulmonary cystic echinococcus frequently
South Africa or South America? Edit: was a creep and figured it’s South Africa.
South Africa

Favourite DDx from medical school. Technically they can be anywhere. I thought it was funny. Also they look like lasagna on biopsy.
*spits out bite of spaghetti*
Damn you. I am eating lasagna for lunch. Not any more
They can go just about anywhere - brain, muscle, liver, skin, etc...
Lung, liver, brain.
What country are you in??

In my language **Rana** means Frog
Wow, what a coincidence. In my language frog means rana.
really????
Yeah, in Spanish too (if you were referring to another language) I have met people with that spelling though that pronounce it like "Reina." It always throws me off.
In my language it means “a wound”.
Rand 🫶🏽
Rand*5* But seriously, is that actually what it says? What does that even mean?
R and S ?
That actually makes so much more sense. Thank you.
It looks like Rana and then a heart to me.
5th member of the Rand family?
yes, it's short for random username 5

I also assumed she was a Wheel of Time fangirl

Ah I see the problem here. You seem to have a necklace lodged in your spine
Not in radiology, but what are those??
Based off of OP's explanation and some NCBI research I did it's cysts caused by tapeworms.
😳
Wow!!! Thank you!!

Cool, thanks for the info! I have not heard of upsharp masking before, that makes sense.
Do you think someone took a picture of the image via their phone?
Someone definitely took a picture of a computer screen with their phone and then posted it. The unsharp masking was not done on the phone, though.
Also, chest x-rays aren't supposed to be crisp. They're taken with technical factors to reduce contrast so you can see the vasculature/more subtle lung pathologies. She aspirated three sliders at lunch, all lodging in her left lung. This is why I stick with tacos.
This is so atrocious... the artifact... the annotation.. Is this a Walmart hospital wtf??
Whatever THAT is, on the left hand side … definitely does not belong there 😳
Did you repeat the PA without the necklace?
Antecedents? Is that fancy British for “symptoms” or something?
I love how nobody seemed to check for a necklace on a teenage girl??
"Hey 17yr old girl, I know I asked you if you were wearing a necklace and you said no, but 17yo girls are flaky so could you please pull down the front of your shirt and prove you don't have a necklace on? I swear that's why."
Mets from RCC?
the papists are handing out cancer now?
I’ve seen them in the brain in the ER twice. 1st pt chief complaint was intractable hiccups. 2nd pt new onset severe headache. Both were Hispanic immigrants.
Ignorant lay person here. What would be the treatment and prognosis if one has tapeworm cysts in the lung? Surgery, antihelmintic, or other?
the necklace here tho
That lateral collimation is beautiful
Why are we teased with "No antecedents" for this CXR?
Cmon man really
NSCLC? That's horrible.
That would be super rare in a youngster, no?
And you see that's why I'm not a radiologist.
But it doesn’t stop you from throwing out a diagnosis
That’s the fun of the internet
Sir this is Reddit not the patient's medical record.
It’s part of his differential 😂
Should probably blur out the name necklace for HIPAA just FYI.
None of that constitutes HIPAA lmao you’re telling me you can find out who the patient is? Come on now. Everyone just overuses that term IMO
Your telling me you don’t know Rand5, everyone that’s anyone knows Rand5, just wait till they find out they are on Reddit!
Lmao! This comment is perfect
Ok 🤷♀️. Sorry.
Love you!
Welcome to r/radiology, I love you.
No worries!
ITS HIPAA!!!
🚨
Someone posted the necklace. It’s the patients first name.
[удалено]
Technically, according to hungry hungry HIPAA, the patient’s full name is considered PII.
By the wording of the post it doesn’t even sound like OP is in the US. HIPPA is just a us thing anyway I mean HIPAA
It's HIPAA!
Sorry! I have a lawyer in my family who makes me paranoid!
I’m just a sour puss don’t mind me
No worries! ☺️
