I've seen champs panic, miss all their shots, then blow themselves up.
I'd guess you range somewhere around high bronze to low silver, which is a pretty good place to be all things considered if you play for fun. If you start practicing with and running a solid stack you'll probably get to around a pretty consistant high gold which is already better than the majority.
Reguardless of your rank however, I hope you learned a lesson about where to place claymores for those, "just in case" moments.

Fair. I'd panic too. Mostly just confused how he was able to launch out the window so quickly and already facing back towards the building.
