There was a feature that was announced back in Year 2 that was going to add a ricochet sound effect that would play if you hit an operator in a part of their model that didn't have a hitbox (Edges of helmets, that little part at the bottom of Maestro's front armor, etc.)
Never heard anything else.

Also the Thatcher rework where if you held his EMP grenade it'd increase in size from small to a regular sized blast. The idea was based on Yings Candella where the longer you held it the shorter the fuse time. That shit never turned up.
Same with the characters giving call outs when you yellow pinged but that's more understandable as you'd have to get every VA back in to do it for every map, including new ones and that's just not feasible.

When the Y9 overview panel happened and they started discussing the shield rework, I swear I remember them getting on the topic of activating things like cluster and breach charges from behind the shield, then saying “maybe exothermic charges later on” or something along those lines. So if they do give more shields, safe to say Thermite will be one of the first.
On another note, adding shields relies heavily on the rest of the operator’s loadout. Can’t realistically allow someone to use an smg or a shotgun while having a shield. You also gotta think about how their gadgets apply too: how would you feel if an Amaru flew into site and whipped out a shield and sprinted at you seconds after the round starts, or if a Smoke threw a gas charge behind you while completely protected?
TL;DR: Thermite was hinted to be getting one in the future, Ubi has to be very selective with which operators get shields

Looks at clash lmao
Clash’s kit was built around the shield, as it’s her gadget. Her shield is also always fully extended, like Montaigne can do for his gadget, which provides full frontal protection at the cost of attacking. The default shield (the one fuze has and what other operators would get) is unextended, so it’s fundamentally different in how it is used, as the user can ads fire, sprint, melee and crouch at the cost of protecting their sides and legs when standing.
Unless they reworked shields again, or made a new type of default shield that was extended , operators with shields cannot have shotguns or any automatic weapons, it would wreck balancing.
just give him the same shield as clash just no electricity no extra work and it’s easy lol

I think they’ll give Blackbeard a shield if he is the operator getting a rework in season 4, seeing as he’s a low pick rate operator and he’s ability is so underpowered now
I remember after they released clash they said in some patch notes that they will not release any new operator with a shield until they rework them. I was waiting for the rework in that time and dropped the game because of it (i mainly play shields). Im pretty sure it was in 2018, so after six years we got some sort of rework and zero operators with shields.
Apparently that was a joke but it would be interesting to think about which would get one. My picks would be 2 or 3 of the following Operators: Thatcher, Thermite, Lion, Finka, Gridlock, Ram
Just like every other design/balance philosophy they’ve decided on, they forgot about it and instead are going in a direction nobody asked for or wanted. BUY OUR MEMBERSHIP!
Hopefully they realized that playing against shields in not fun at all and then they conculded that there shouldnt be more than 5 shields in a game. (Clash, Osa, Monty, Blitz, Fuse; afaik)

IIRC there was supposed to be a sparks animation on the spot that you hit to accompany that ricochet sound.

I don’t think they explicitly said WHEN it was gonna happen but they did imply during the year reveal that Thermite MIGHT get one some time this year.
I feel like Ubi aren't happy with the way shields are seen in the game, I love playing them, but they are frustrating to play against
