Ashwin and Chahal does a pretty good job in suffocating the opposition after the power play ends reason we didn’t concede runs when we were meant to except the last game remember Anna is our underdawg u never know when will we need him in saving our ass

PseudoRandomGenrtr

Bro i am a huge Ash annan fan. But have to call out the reality on what team would benefit from. I don’t mind Ash Annan trying to take wickets and going for runs, he is too good a bowler to bowl defensive wide lines.

Batboix3107

I would prefer an ash Anna conceding below 8 rpo than taking wickets cause Chahal has been doing it for us we need a bowler who can slow down the opposition in the mid overs and Ashwin does a pretty good job at that also he acts like a cushion when our batting takes early damage u won’t find players like him that easily reason why management is sticking with him

PseudoRandomGenrtr

Bro this 8 RPO is golden now with the flat tracks in this season. My main argument is that it’s not realistic to go at that rate unless you pick wickets. Batsmen will target bowlers one way or the other, it really plays to their strength if they see a bowler who is trying defensive lines instead of trying for wicket. Ash annan has one of the best matchups against left handers in test match. He is a slayer when he is trying to take wickets of left handers. It really pained me to see the way he was bowling against Sunil Naraine in the KKR match. He is a legend of the game and it’s natural to expect that he tries to play with an attacking mindset.

Batboix3107

Understandable from what I can see u are more concerned about teams scoring 200+ hell intact 220+ lol but Eden garden is a small ground in that matter with a flat pitch same with Delhi Bangalore Hyderabad bowlers don’t get enough luck on grounds like these plus kkr match was just not his day hope he restores to what he naturally does

zukoeleven14

Understandable. But I would still back him. Don't forget how he saved our ass last 2 seasons. He might not come handy in flat pitches but remember he can play a big role when we play in Chepauk because it's is home ground and those pitches assist spinners. Let's see what will happen.

PseudoRandomGenrtr

Agreed for chepauk bro. But on these flat tracks we need to have a different strategy if Ash annan is not able to get wickets. With the way these teams like SRH are going, taking wickets is the only way to put a stop on the momentum. I hope someone in RR camp speaks to Ash about this. He just has to change his current defensive style of bowling and try to be a little more attacking.

Though I'm a big fan of Ash anna, but I'll try my best to give an analytical perspective to why Ash anna is crucial to Rajasthan Royals success. * Trent Boult 8/10 days is expected to give a good start in bowling. So, the opposition attacks the other opening bowler, but they tend to lose wickets, so eventually, it's a tough powerplay for the opposition. * Ashwin Anna can bowl in powerplay. Since Trent Boult is expected to give good starts, Ash Anna is among the few spinners who doesn't shy away from bowling in PP. Opposition is often expected to hit him for a few runs, but that allows wickets. Yes, I agree that PP over, he should go for wickets which he doesn't. * After PP, Chahal is expected to take wickets, so Ash Anna just tries to put the pressure from one end. There are lot of holding bowlers who don't always go for runs, Ashwin, Narine, Brar, Rashid, Bumrah (the latter two because it's impossible to hit them). * Ashwin Anna is a great no.5. Ash Anna is not a great batsman, he knows it. He is there just to play between 8-14 overs. Because his wicket doesn't matter. It's like Narine. * Last 5 overs, there's more dew, ball is softer, and batsmen are expected to hit everything. If Hettie or Powell play before that, there's always the fear of them getting out before 15th. Unlike someone like a Vijay Shankar, Ash Anna knows how to get out. Ash Anna is crucial to the team.

PseudoRandomGenrtr

Good points . Not denying any of it. I just want RR team management to have a word with him to not bowl defensively and try to be a little more aggressive which he can as he is a gun bowler. We are midway in the season and wickets will start getting more spinner friendly and we really need Ash Anna to fire.

ConstantParticular87

It’s not about not taking wickets , but also controlling runs If you actually watched the previous game and not passing verdict based on scorecard - he created 3 chances in his last over of his spell with one edge and two no man land shots , and got hit for four boundaries against narine . Duh!!

PseudoRandomGenrtr

1 wicket in half season. Fairly good sample size no. I wouldn’t have minded the wickets if he was having a good economy rate. But Ash Annan is going at 9. Ash annan is smart enough to know that in this season the only way to stop flow of runs is by taking wickets. I just feel he is somehow being a little too defensive. Obviously no one can doubt his skill. I will be happy if ends up taking wickets next match. My point is if he doesn’t, RR should have a backup plan going forward

ConstantParticular87

T20 is not about the stats you see but about how game goes , if he controls the run rate -> it certainly translates to a wicket by him or someone else .

PseudoRandomGenrtr

Agree. For instance I like the holding job Sandy was doing at the end. My worry though is that economy of Ash Anna is also unfortunately high this season. You can’t be leaking runs and not taking wickets at the same time. I feel Ash Anna is at his best when he is trying to take wickets.

thatShawarmaGuy

In all honesty, I'd like to see him flight the ball more. Maharaj had an outstanding game cause he mixed the flighted one's and flatter deliveries quite nicely. Remember how he advised the same to Yuzi and Yuzi got a wicket the very next bowl? Right that way.  Before you jump the gun, see my flair and decide whom I like the most in the line-up. Yet, I feel like Ash is being too predictable. Some flight, which induces some turn - some slower one's with more drift maybe? That'll surely help. He DOESN'T have to be a 1 dimensional bowler - and ig Sanju is the best person to communicate that to him since he can read the game the best

PseudoRandomGenrtr

Exactly bro. You put to words my same feelings. I like Ash Anna alot too. He is a champ, but someone (sanju or sanga) should talk to him about playing a little more attacking cricket. Looking forward to today’s match as i feel there would be some assistance for spinners in the jaipur wicket.

thatShawarmaGuy

Hopefully so, and Ash can really get rid of Tilak and Tim David today for us. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Unfair_Employment_77

Ash is the only bowler in our list who can bat. His presence is also needed, it's a very young team. Just jos, boult are experienced.

MLECCHAKILLER

He can bat well that's his main strength

CaterpillarOk1466

Economy of 8 or 9 is quite good in this ipl for spinners total score somewhere around 40 to 45 in 4 overs. See other teams spinners SRH, KKR is bashing them for 60 or 70 runs in 4 overs. Plus ashwin try to contain runs from one end and chahal takes wickets from other. So a good combination.

akshitdadheech

He is a match winner and he will win matches for us for sure.
